What exactly is your problem? Do you mean mobile data or storage like sdcard? Also, you definitely need to plug int into a PC for rooting because you need to install a custom recovery via fastboot (due to S-ON, there is no other way).
Plugged my phone into my pc and it will not be seen by HTC manager, windows or any other software I tried everything and I can't get the data transfer through usb to work I can get it to charge but that's it

OK, try reinstall the drivers. If that won't work, try to insert sdcard directly to PC via adapter, or try using adb / fastboot from Linux.
I did a fresh install of hyc manager tried several usb cables I use to plug it in and my computer would show desire x but I get nothing at all now from any usb port or any cable can't see the port on the phone beeing damaged as its carging so thinking the board has gone insane

What kind of USB port are you using? USB 3.0 or USB 2.0? USB 3.0 is known to cause issues. Also, did you try another port or another computer maybe?
Usb 2 , 3 offical htc cables and 2 diffrent computers all refuse to see the data transfer mode only charging

Did you get ADB or fastboot working (as dansou901 suggested)? Fastboot is the last resort, if thats not working from atleast linux you may need to use your warranty.
Yeah... If it won't work like @CurtisMJ suggested, the usb port on your phone might be broken...

Try a new USB cable I used a PSP USB cable for a while when my HTC hero USB cable stopped working properly. Just find some more USB cables and test them all.

You probably damaged the USB controller with ESD. You can try another USB port, but it's likely that all the ports are damaged (at least all the ports on that controller). Check the other ports on the PC. Most modern PCs have at least a couple of USB hubs built in. It is possible that a port on another hub or controller may work. Otherwise, you might be able to use a USB add in card in the computer if all the built-in ports are dead. They are relatively cheap if you have the slot in the machine to install one.

mount to PC is a known issue methinks. What is your current setup? Rom/kernel? and how are your settings? USB debugging set on/off? auto connect set to "ask on connection"?

Its common with the 2.2.1 roms. What you need to do is replace the vold.conf, and the vold.fstab files in system/ect. I have attached the ones you need. Just use root explorer and drop them in the ect folder, reboot, and test.

you should download toolbox from development section and the first option is to install drivers. once u run the program. install it and then test the usb cables. by the way i never charge my phone from a computer i like separate chargers so im using the charger for BB to charge my battery. its quicker as well.

1. check if there is correct driver installed
2. check is USB cable is ok
3. use USB port from the back of your PC. front one sometimes it fail (happened to me several times))
4. check if you have "usb debugging" tick in "application - development"
could be one of these above situation....
Uninstalled and reinstalled driver got it to show up intermittently. My phone shows up everytime but the flyer only sometimes. I've tried every port with with multiple cables. I'm gonna see if it got better tonight. I'm trying to upgrade to 3.2 and don't want a brick because of a damaged micro usb port.
Thanks for the reply

have you tried to another computer?
If you have istalled latest adb and HTC driver and Java then i think it's like what happened to me, I couldn't get adb to work and my laptop seems like it didn't recognize my flyer..
nickiberli was kind enough and advised me to use his tool AndroidControl, you can find it in his sig..just navigate to the Android Control folder after you unpack it and start a command window from there and it will hopefully work..

try different USB cable
I think you said you did this but make sure usb debugging is enabled. Go to settings, click applications and then click development and make sure usb debugging is checked. You have done everything I would recommend doing. I used to have the same exact issue. My phone would charge but I could not connect to the computer, my friends vibrant connected fine though (weird). What fixed it for me was a new usb cable from the tmobile store, it costs around $15. They have a 30 day return policy, if it doesn't work you can just take it back. I was really close to replacing my usb port on my phone but I figured I would try a cable from tmobile first and it worked thankfully. If a new cable doesn't fix it then you may have to replace your usb port unfortunately. I recommend www.mobiletechvideos.com if you end up having to replace your usb port, good luck.

I also have multiple usb cables but the only one that works is the cable from the tmobile store. All four of my other cables work fine on my friends vibrant too. Like I said in the post above yours, you can always take it back if it doesn't work either. If that's the case then you could try cleaning your phone's usb port with a Qtip and some isopropyl alcohol.

Does your pc recognizes your mobile connected when in recovery... you have tried almost all possibilities so i have no idea... You can try flashing stock rom and then format(factory reset) whole device...

Have you installed the device drivers for your phone? If you haven't I would recommend downloading the device drivers for your phone from here. If you have already installed the device drivers for your phone I would recommend uninstalling then reinstalling the device drivers for your phone. Also, is the usb cable a decent quality cable and are you able to connect other devices to your computer (And Windows recognizes them) using this cable?
Thank you for your feedback and yes ive been through the motions of uninstalling amd reinstalling the drivers multiple times. The cable im using is for an LG smartphone and its in mint condition . It alsocworks with other devices except mine. My samsung would have a usb icon pop up on the phone whenever a connection is made but now it just charges.

You could also try using a different usb cable and also make sure your plugging your phone into a USB 2.0 port as sometimes USB 3.0 ports can be problematic. Another thing you could try that very likely won't make a difference but you could try is going into developer settings and making sure USB debugging is enabled.
Ive tried every usb port on my laptop and i tried the usb debugging feature but nothing seems to be working. I will get a new usb cable specifically for my phone to see if it makes a difference because im running out of options.
