[Q] No option to remove apps from homescreen (CM11. KitKat 4.4) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating my SGS 3 to CM 11 and android 4.4, I cant see how to remove apps from the homescreen!
When I long press apps on the homescreen, there is no option to remove the apps from the homescreen on the top!
I guess Im just missing something fundamental, any help is appreciated.
Screenshot where I long press gmail icon attached.

Hi, I did not test CM11, but you could try an alternative launcher like Nova, or Apex. Just install them from the market. These are quite easy to customize.
Another alterantive would be SLIM-KAT instead of CM11. It is based on Android 4.4.2 (AOSP).
It is still in beta stage, but already quite stable to use.
Check it out on "slimroms.net" (in the section download for the weekly beta release).

[Q] ICS AOSP long press left button for search?

I just installed an AOSP ICS rom (SlimICS) and am missing the long-press left button = search functionality that stock Touchwiz has.
I know that AOSP doesn't include this, so I'm trying to see if there's a mod that may bring it back. I can't find any settings in the otherwise excellent SlimICS (or its ASS extra settings menu), and unfortunately cannot ask in its thread due to having <10 posts and it being in the dev forum. I also searched for a while but may be trying all the wrong keywords because I don't see anything promising for "aosp long press left button search" or similar.
Would anyone happen to know if this functionality is possible with an AOSP rom? Any pointers will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hey.
It is a TouchWiz feature and Slim is an AOSP rom. Therefore there is at the moment no chance to bring it to this rom because it comes without TouchWiz.
Maybe you could install TouchWiz and get the feature back but I don't know.
Hiya. Right that's what I mean, is there a mod or app that may simulate it atleast? I presume it would be something that binds to the left click and on longpress event launches Google Search.
I just recalled that when I tried it, CM7 had something like that in its settings, letting you change what happened on longpress. I don't know if it was using a mod for that, will look around.
Sorry I dont know.
You could try it with TW 4.5:

but dont know if you will have success.
I'm on Resurrection ics from and missed this feature too. I have bound it to a direct button and long press menu button of the navigation bar. The latest Nova launcher also has this feature. Hope I helped!

It looks like Nova Launcher 1.1.1 may just be doing what I'm describing here. I'm surprised my current choice Go Launcher Ex doesn't have it, considering the multitude of useful features they've managed to add by now.

How to change order of apps in cm10?

I just installed CM10 4.1.2 on my galaxy s2. How is it possible to edit order of apps in my app screen? I want to change order of them (on ICS i was able to do so by hitting left button > edit > and then holding one icon for longer time and dragging it).
Thanks.

It depends on the launcher you use, for what you asked go launcher has that feature and several other launchers.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.
If you like the stock look use nova or apex launcher they both look the same as the stock launcher but have lots of customization

*Jelly Beans build 11* UI freezes w/ Latest Applications

Hello,
I'm running Jelly Beans build 11 with the regular beans kernel. For a new user to ROMS, I am very impressed with the built in mods. So far I have found these mods very useful: dropbox mod, google play fix, native hotspot fix, multi-window support for all apps, customizable toggles on status bar, nova launcher, and built-in call/sms blocker.
My main issue with this ROM is when I hold down the home button to access my latest applications. I am able to scroll through my most recently used applications. But, when I select an app my phone freezes and then I get the message "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped". I tried looking around in system settings for an alternative app switcher and was not able to figure it out. Is anyone else having this problem? :crying:
I had this problem on build 9 when using Sense recents. I reflasfed the rom and went back to using stock recents and everything worked.
All right!
I just reflashed JB b11. The first setting in the jelly beans installation is "recent apps". Hahaha! I picked stock for recent apps instead of Sense for recent apps like you said. Now the recent app selector is stable. It's too bad the Sense recent app selector doesn't work. I think the horizontal scroll is nicer than the vertical scroll. But, stable is better than unstable. Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah this is a problem with the sense recents. You can also try fixing permissions if you want to use the sense recents.

I have an Android 4.4.2 KitKat and I want to sort apps by type (tools, game, social ...) in apps drawer.
Is there any applications that can allow to create a sort by type ? I don't want to install new laucher like Go launcher but just mods or apks that can I use with my default launcher.

Thank you !

Yes, there are plenty of apps and launchers that allow you to sort you apps in the drawer. You can create folders if thats what you mean:highfive:
A great one I use is Epic Laucher, its also based on kitkat laucher + its free! You can find a link below along with a few others:
Epic Launcher:

your welcome
create app folders in Android
a) Firstly, open you app window or application drawer.
b) Now from the list of apps, Long press the app you want to make a folder for. Long pressing the app should take you straight to the homescreen where you can drop the app.
c) Again open the app drawer and long press another app you want to put in the same folder. Without letting go, drag the app on top of the previous app to put them in the same folder. Repeat the process for other apps or games.
d) In the homescreen you should now see a round folder with the apps you just put in. You can name the folder by pressing it and clicking on “Unnamed Folder”.
That creates a folder on the homescreen, not in the app drawer. Or am I missing something?

[Q] Trebuchet Launcher on CM 11 Android Kitkat Nightly 4.4.2

Hello guys,
I newly installed Android 4.4.2 with Cyanogenmod 11 on my s2 and I am facing some problems. First to say is that I use the PhilZ Kernel v5.15.9 and Cyanogenmod-version 11-20140418-NIGHTLY-i9100. The Trebuchet Launcher is making some problems. Every time I restart the device some widgets and shortcuts on the home screen are removed and the screens are reset to a shortcut order of a certain time. Same with the app drawer, if I want them to be arranged by date installed, the setting will go back to sort by name after a restart. In addition the music player is having some flaws and will not start a song, or just completely crash. I know these are just minor problems and I am happy in general about 4.4.2 on my S2, I just want to know if these problems are normal, and if, when it can be thought that they will be corrected? Do you recommend me using a other launcher, as I have read that the trebuchet launcher in cm11 is not done yet, while the launcher from cm10.2 had much more setting options.
I have another question regarding "Snapshot". Is it a rom, similiar to the nightly kit kat versions? What advantages/disadvantages does it have?
Best regards,
Haris

I also had problems with Trebuchet, but they are different and major. The launcher suddenly stops working and I have to reboot my phone.

I didn't have any problems with the music player, but I recommend Google Play Music app.

I installed Google Now Launcher because it is almost the same, but then switched to Nova when I found it even better (in my opinion).

The snapshot is supposed to be a more stable version of the nightly. But in this case specifically, I flashed the snapshot yesterday, and I didn't have except problems from it. I don't recommend installing it. I don't get a single notification, something is wrong with the power button (doesn't get all options, only reboot and power off), and the Home button doesn't work at all, not even a long press. If the nightly version you are on now is good, don't update.
