[Q] Screen Protectors for Xperia Z Ultra - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I am looking to find the most high quality option when it comes to screen protectors for the Ultra.
I have tried the Muvit protector - but it isn't the best quality I've seen - and it got a little scratch in the application process.
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Stealth Extreme R from Armorz without having first taken off the shatter proof film?
Wondering how it fits on the device, how it affects the weight - and generally how high quality the protector actually is and if it is worth the extra $50.
I am not interested in trying to remove the shatter proof film after reading people's experiences.

Not sure if it'll help you, but there are quite a number of "reviews" on it on Youtube.

I have the Armorz Stealth Extreme R tempered glass protector. Its actually pretty good quality. If you have never put on a glass screen protector before, it might be a little tricky. I put mine on without water, and paid the price when trying to reposition it. the bottom corner is lifted from when i tried to pry it up and move it. I did apply a back glass using the water method, and it took longer to get the bubbles completely out, but came out pretty clean.
I did not remove the anti shatter film on either side, and have not seen any loss in touch sensitivity.
one thing i did notice is that, it added a little bit of weight, but also gave the phone better rigidity when used without the case. some people have mentioned the phone twisting in their pocket, and i have yet to experience any twisting whats so ever.
not sure if the price has gone up, but i ordered mine for 39$ on amazon. hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the insight!
So why do you think doing it dry caused a problem? Is the adhesive very strong? I figured it would just pull right off.
Do you have any bubbles or blemishes on the front?

it's a silicone based adhesive. peels off fairly easy but keeps a strong bond. when I pryed the corner up, I pushed part of the adhesive so it clumped up and now won't lay flat. if you spray it down with water, you'll be able to slide it into place with out having to lift.
it looks like a large are in the picture but it really isn't noticeable. the backside went on with water without any issues. sucks that the back glass cost me 13$ and the front cost me 3 times that much only to have that messed up corner. you live and you learn. Lol

I have the glass-M galss screen protector. It's almost $40 with shipping but it's front and back glass. Its very well made, easy to apply and is more fingerprint resistant than the unprotected glass with it's ASF.

... Is that crap made out of Gorilla glass? Good god, that's a screen protector. None of this "Clear film" BS where if there's an Airbubble you just ruined a purchase, oh no, this is quite literally just another screen slapped on top.
What does it do to the thickness of the thing? My concern mainly is with cases like Sony's Battery case that kind of only work with just exactly how thick it is.

Not sure if it's really gorilla glass but no scratches so far from things that would scratch plastic protectors. It is pretty thin I can't say for the case but its under 1mm thick.

Does anyone know this?

Not sure if it's been discussed here before but I just applied the most amazing screen protector I've ever use on any phone. It's called ILLumiShield and they sell it on Amazon and eBay for a reasonable price and is absolutely fantastic it's so easy to put on bubble free, feels like glass even over the the crap protector Sony puts on. I highly recommended and no I don't work for them hehe

Sound nice. One more question: haven't you feel after applied your scr.prot. like whole screen sometimes respond not as exactly as you wish, have you? With my scr.prot. I sometimes get unwanted behavior... Like two fingers tap even if I use only one... Or tap without reaction... Or tap evean I did not do it, self-tap... It happens once a day, maybe two, but it is very annoing... Without scr.prot. it works perfect. I thing I would follow by your adwice, only need your opinion about that not-funny behaviors. Thx

I found this issue to be greatly improved with the iLLumiShield screen protector. But it was definitely more of an issue with the cheaper screen protectors. You also might want to go to settings/sounds and uncheck vibrate on touch. I feel like this improve my touch sensitivity.

Turned off vibrate on touch and it seems a bit more more responsive in some areas, even though it probably is placebo. I have an iShieldz screen protector (similar to Zagg) and noticed that it wouldn't respond when I tap the screen sometimes. Though, I think that's the way I tap the screen, edge of finger vs finger.

Ok. Thanks for answer. One more: I see there are 3 different ILLumiShields: matte, cristal clear and blue light. Which one you recomend? Or which one you have and recomend?

Regarding Illumishield, is it just me or does it sound fishy to anyone else? Lifetime-Guarantee, but they send you 2-3 in a single package?!

Thanks for the tip. Just bought one. Been wanting a protection like that for my phone ever since removing the factory protector. The phone is a fingerprint magnet without the ASF. However found it for $16 and free shipping to Sweden (only front protection though, don't need it for the back).

I applied Glass-M screen protectors on both the front and back of my phone yesterday, and have been very happy with it so far. It's added a little weight, but it feels sturdier and more premium than before, and looks better than the plastic screen protector I had previously. The touch is also a lot smoother than the plastic one, which was a bit rubbery. I installed mine on top of the ASF, both front and back, since I didn't want the "harrowing" experience of removing it. I feel like it's protected well enough to do without a case, though I may get a slim one to cover the edges of the phone as well. Highly recommended. :good:

GlassM is horrible??
Firstly look at these awful photos I've taken:
First go to Dropbox.com, following site:

Can someone link these sites directly? Would be nice, thanks in advance. Email: [email protected]
I will send you the links to the images!!
Received my GlassM this week, applied it yesterday. For whatever the reason, there is now, after 12 hours of use, a 10cm large, deep scratch (no, it's not dust, polished few times). Over the first night, the screen got the crack though. This morning I've noticed the deep scratch.
Yesterday evening, just sliding over my wooden table, impressed of its smooth, I notived two smaller light scratches. I thought so, "ok thats not really your truth, GlassM", but now it's really enough.
GlassM's support does not reply to my support request unfortunately.
Can someone recommend other Glass-protectors for my beloved ZU?
Greetings,

Steinheil Ultra Fine Screen Protector

I'm disappointed with the grainy look of the Moshi iVisor AG and I want to get a Steinheil.

I am pretty sure I bought mine from Amazon which saved me a few bucks on shipping. I highly recommend this product. It is clear and pretty smooth. In retrospect, I may get the oleophobic version next.
I got the Oleophobic version the other day. Ordered from Amazon to save on shipping since I'm a Prime member. Absolutely love this protector. You can't even tell that its on the phone unless you look closely at it. Its smooth, clear, no rainbow affect, finger prints hardly show and if they do wipe away with ease. Great protector. One side note, they send you two in the package. Nice surprise...
In my opinion, Steinheil makes the best screen protector on the market. I've been using them for years on all my devices.

Do you know if the Oleophobic has the same clarity as the Ultra Clear? I dont want to get anything that will cloud the screen.
It's a great screen protector, I bought the Oleophobic version and you cannot tell that it's even there.
Using the Oleophobic.
Noticeably more friction than the stock screen.
Does appear to make finger oils more apparent than stock screen.
Easy to wipe off.
Does cover the Front facing camera and sensor ports.
I highly suspect the protector would affect front camera performance, although I have not checked this.
Cutout for the earpiece only.
Two pieces in the package, with cloth and scraper. No alcohol wipes.
As always, apply in a clean, dust-free environment.
I'd call it above average.

I am using the Ultra Crystal Clear and I am very happy with it. It did not affect the clarity of the screen before and after installing it. I chose it for the clarity and for the scratch protection.
Unless someone has used or installed both versions on their phone, I think it will hard to judge what is better in terms of clarity. HTH.
Quotes from the SGP web site :
(Sorry I can't still post URL, so if you go to their sgpstore.com site and under cell phone > Samsung SGS2 AT&T)
Ultra Crystal and Ultra Oleophobic screen protectors are both clear type where it absolutely doesn't affect the screen image quality.
Ultra Crystal has glass-like surface coating with the best resistance against scratches.
Ultra Oleophobic has an oil resistant coating to resist oil and other contaminants.
Ultra Crystal : Ultimate Clarity
• Ultra Crystal : 25% Thicker than previous model
• Hard coated for Scratches and Scuffs Proof
• High Quality Optical Enhancement Film
• Ultimate Clarity surface hardness : 4H
Ultra Oleophobic : Oil-Resistance
• Oleophobic coating : Oil-resistance coating
• it protects from staining of oils, cosmetics and other contaminations
• High Quality Optical Enhancement Film
• Good Surface Hardness : 3H

I agree with you on the grainy aspect of the Moshi iVisor screen protector.
I was almost going to purchase it at the AT&T store when two of the AT&T sales guys showed me their Infuse phones one with the iVisor installed and one without. And that's when I decided to go with Steinheil instead. The iVisor on that phone made his screen so matte or so grainy.
Obviously the iVisor has other advantages (scratch resistant, reusable) but not the clarity one for me.
I'm looking to get a screen protector for my galaxy s2 as well. i've heard a lot of horror stories with screen protectors and leaving residue/ruining the screen so I'm a little hesitant in choosing one.
I know this phone has gorilla glass but it never hurt to protect it.
Is the ultra oleophobic worth the 13.99? Can someone confirm the front-facing camera quality since the protector covers it?
Or should i settle for those $1-3 ones on ebay?

I just got my olephobic, it's well worth the $14. Front facing cam is not affected by it, picture quality is beautiful. It blocks oils, so you can easily wipe them off, for that fresh feeling.

I really like sgp ... the only complaint if.I had to find one is that they seem to carry some charge that attracts.lint/dust... never had problems with dust when pulling my phone out of my pocket on the stock screen... but after installing the protector, it always comes out with a fair amount of dust ...
Again, I still really like it.... great clarity...

I use sgp screen protectors on all of my devices and i love them. I have tried all of them but the only one that i use and wikll ever use on this device is the ultra crystal because its the only one that doesnt take away from the shininess of this screen. The screen on this phone is by far the best on the market so i want to keep it that way.
Well I guess the comments answer my questions. I'm not too worried about protection, but just want something that will show less fingerprints.
Im planning to get the oleophobic one aswell but I had a question about if I should use this screen protector that came with this gel case I purchased off eBay. the case is nice and all and it came with an ordinary protector, but because I've never applied a screen protector on any phone before - I was wondering should i apply it? I'm very obsessive about the screen on my galaxy s2 and don't know if removing a screen protector incase i dont like it will damage the screen or anything? there is no adhesive or other solution that came with it, its one of those that u just apply it on after removing covers on both sides

Received my glass screen protector today

I couldn't stop laughing when I opened the envelope from china. Looks a little thick. I hope its not Plexiglas or acrylic. Either way I suppose my phone is ready for anything with this protector. I'm just guessing they're overreaching a bit on the marketing pitch.
I'll update when I get it on.

I put on mine 5 minutes ago, I had an anti glare one before, and boy is this smoother than anything I've ever put on a phone... It has an effective oleophobic coating so you barely see any fingerprint, and touchscreen works fine, no issues at all.
It is actually pretty thick, but I guess it adds no more than 10 grams so I don't really care, I have a basic gel back cover and you can barely see it even if it's considerably smaller than the screen (talking about 1.5mm all around), and even though the holes for sensors and led are REALLY holes, you can literally fill them with water (I'm joking, but I will try and let you know... ).
Only problem with these protectors is you have to get it on on 1 max 2 moves, because replacing it is a real pain in the arse. Because is thicker and heavier and stiffer than any other screen protector, you can't simply put a piece of magic tape on the corner and peel it off, you have to do it with a nail or something like a guitar pick or it doesn't come off. Hence the difficulty if you happen to leave a freaking dust particle under it (usually at the center of the screen, where you see it EVERY SINGLE TIME you take a glance at your device).
Lastly, big bubbles are non existing, instead there are a million of infinitesimal bubbles that go away with hard work with a squeegee, or the producer claims they go away by themselves in the next few days.
Overall, if the bubbles really do go away in the next few days, I'll be really happy with my purchase.
Will keep you posted anyway.
P. S. If you're wondering, yeah, pen and pencils work just fine, I'd say better, since you don't have to worry about the screen (or screen protector) getting scratched...

I spent way too much on my Armorz glass screen protector, but it fits perfectly and is really thin. good quality and feels like iphone screen. sturdy and slick. some finger printing but wipes off with ease. no problems with adhering except for the corner where I kinda messed it up. not super noticeable but still upsetting given the price. -__-

Quick update: I ditched the glas.t protector and have gone back to a simple anti glare one, branded Nillkin this time.
I hate the foggy effect on whites, but I love having no fingerprints at all, not having to clean it every two seconds, and not having to deal with several points where the micro bubbles never went away.
Furthermore, I found a slice on the glass protector that seems to have the coating worn off (it came that way, I just realised it was there the day after I put it on), and that slice is prone to be the dirtiest on the whole surface.
I tried to wash it with soap, dish soap, alcohol, nothing works.
I took it off and put it on so many times (after the first time there were always one or two micro dust particles that managed to get under there, and you often you only see them in full sunlight) that the lower right corner would bend a little so that it didn't stick as well as before.
Add to that the WEIGHT of the thing (about 45 grams) and the added .4mm (seems nothing, but they're A LOT on a 6.5mm thin device), I eventually took it off and replaced it and will stay with my plain screen protectors for the entire device life.

Yeah after just a few hours I decided to remove the glass protector. It just doesn't stick to the corners and edges properly. And the screen feels a bit unresponsive. I just replaced it with a regular matte protector I have as a backup and it feels so much better. Sigh. I wasted 50 bucks in that glass protector. Sometimes I feel like I made a bad decision getting the XZU having to think of all this protection crap. I never ever needed to put anything on my other devices before and those are still looking fine.

[Q] Fusso oleophobic coating and Z Ultra

The oleophobic coating on my phone started to wear off and an ugly stain is left at the bottom corner of the front panel. I came across this fusso product and wondering if it possibly can cover and hide the part with no coating on the screen? Also I am not sure if at all it can be applied directly on the ASF or it is meant for glass surfaces only?
Maybe you can advise me with any solutions?
By the way my phone is only like 10 days old and I baby it.. it's just ridiculous.

Also I am not sure if at all it can be applied directly on the ASF or it is meant for glass surfaces only?
Maybe you can advise me with any solutions?
By the way my phone is only like 10 days old and I baby it.. it's just ridiculous.

yes I can help
you got 2 solutions.
-Take it off original screen protector. (I know it's a pain for you but it is a choice)
-Buy another screen protector and put it on top. Stain WILL disappear.
My recommendation for you is GearMaxx (front and back). That is a top of the line product.
I have removed the original screen protector (which is a pain). Tomorrow I will receive my Glass-M screen protector and try it out. It's supposed to have very good fingerprint protection. A bit more expensive but seems like a good product.
Though I am also gonna order a bottle or two of the Fisso product you mentioned. Funny you mentioned it because I first saw it just a few minutes ago on another site. Also got good reviews I've seen. Albeit a tad expensive.

Oh removing the back protector on my old Z was a nightmare I don't want to go through that hell again ever. Putting a second protector on top looks like is the only opt to me for now as the Fusso coating is meant for glass surfaces only, maybe it will harm the protector or won't work properly idk.

I think it only works properly on naked glass so the protector has to be removed. Though indeed it was a pain and took me about an hour with acetone and knife. Though I miss the oleophobic coating a lot.

Tempered Glass is a must

Bought my first tempered glass screen protector from amazon for $6.99 for the G3. .33h thick. I will never go back to a plastic one ever again on any device. it looks awesome. Very scratch resistant and hardly or no grease ever collects on it so it is very streak resistant. This buy is a no brainer.
Install instructions.
After cleaning screen with some alcohol base cleaner and micro fiber i went into the bathroom where I had a hot shower running to reduce the dust in the room. I then used scotch tape and attached to the phone like a book with 2 strips attached on the side. I did not remove the inside protection sheet on the tempered glass yet. I was now able to fold the screen onto the phone like a book with precision. I then used scotch tape connected together as if to be double stick side and tapped the whole screen clean of dust with the scotch tape. I then removed the inside protection sheet on the tempered glass and folded it over onto the phone and viola! perfection!

Agreed. They are fantastic. I actually had a scratch on my screen before I added the tempered glass screen protector and it completely hides the scratch! Love it.
I agree, I put one on my phone when I first got it.
I also have the Diztronic case, matched with it. Can't even tell I have it on. People are constantly asking me why I don't have a screen protector.

So I take it there is no issues with screen sensitivity with this tempered glass protector? The ones offered through Verizon seems make screen sensitivity an issue.
I'm useing a .33 one. I don't notice any issues.
Good to know, just placed an order for one this morning.

I have to say I have noticed a very very slight sensitivty issue but very very infrequent. I find the return to be far greater than the loss as I was having far greater issues of streaking from grease. My call is a much far greater improvement over all. like a said, this ones a no brainer. (since I don't have a brain [all statements I've made = true] lol
also since I used a circle case I was always getting a circle dust/grease stain I was constantly cleaning every time I opened my phone. this has changed dramatically with the tempered protector. If your using a otterbox defender which has an additional screen this may cause a problem. I would go back and check for you cause I have a defender but I love my wireless charging and I love the case and I'm not going back. Some people have this case for sale on amazon for around $27. I figured I would just buy through verizon since I get a 25% discount on accessories and it is warrantied for 1 year. If I get problem I can just walk into a store and replace it that day. (I hate to wait)
cheers.

I had the same sensitivity problem with mine. Ended up taking it off after a couple weeks because it was so annoying. Mine was Verizon branded and pretty thick though.
Note, with the Otterbox Defender, it's a good idea to pop out that pre-installed screen protector. It's garbage and the case still fits on a phone with tempered glass.
Using the iCarez and a Ditztronic case, perfect match. Can't even tell it has the screen protector.

i-Croo edge to edge TPU Screen protectors (OCD Approved)

Hey guys it's my first post on XDA. I hope this will be helpful for people who are looking for a full coverage screen protector for their brand new Galaxy S7.
First of all, as you all know that the S7 screen has an even worse curve than the S6. Therefore, it has been a nightmare for me to find a screen protector that covers the whole screen without lifting on the edges. ( major OCD User)
I got tired of tempered glass and PET cuz they don't cover the full screen or don't fully stick on the edges so I decided to go with TPU.
i-croo Screen protectors are flexible TPU material that will curve with your screen and stick completely no matter how curvy the edge of the screen is. The cut outs are extremely precise and coverage is great ( i would say about 98% of the screen). The clarity is supered ( tried Yootech S P which cover the whole screen but makes screen looks grainy and has rainbow effect). You can't even tell there is a screen protector on unless u pay very close attention. These screen protectors provide much better protection against scratches or drop compared to PET.
The screen protectors comes with everything you would find with other screen protectors. However, these come with an installation tool ( which i did not use cuz i prefer not having too much stuff near the phone that has dust particles which can be attract by the static charge when you peel the screen protector off), but it think it might be helpful for those who are not skilled at aligning screen protector. The best part is it is a dry installation so you can use dust removal sticker to get rid of dust particle if there is any under the screen. ( Can't tell you how much i hate wet installation which collects tons of dust and fingerprints). In addition, they are very thoughtful and included a hard squeegee that is cover with cloth tape so you would not scratch your screen protector.
The reviews of these on Amazon are not great but trust me this is the best solution for now until they can make curved tempered glass that fully adhere and not just the outside edge like Coral Glass). It works great with Ringke slim case ( will update with 3 more cases soon: Spigen rugged, BLIQ Flex Pro Espresso, and VRS Design-High Pro Shield )
In summary.
PROs:
- Prefect fit, full coverage
- Extremely clear ( almost invisible)
- Fully stick
- better protection than PET
- Dry installation
- thoughtful presentation
Cons.
-might be hard for some to install
- little bit hard to peel off ( tip: use a small dust removal sticker to hold the corner of the screen protector as you peel it off to prevent getting fingerprint under it, also makes it much easier to peel)
- not sure if it will work with all cases
OCD user score ( 4.5/5)
PS: I think it better to get these protectors without the Installation tool if you're skilled at installing them, save a dollar
I cant post images links due to having less than 10 post, you can see the images from my amazon review under Thetechnerd. It would be great if someone can help me post the images here ( plz pm me)
PLz search B01D0XEF3Q from Amazon search box. Thanks all
Here's the link http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Protec...01D0XEF3Q/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Some reviews have been saying that it scratches really easily. Also does it attract fingerprints/oil easily? Thanks
I did not see any noticeable scratch after 4 days of using it, only tiny micro scratches that you have to put under the light and look at the phone from an angle but maybe because I take good care of my stuffs. So I tested scratching the screen protector with a sim removal tool. After running the pointy end of the sim removal tool a few times on the phone surface, I was like "Holly crap, the screen protector is full of scratches". I then use a micro fiber cloth to rub it off, and "WOW" all of those scratches magically disappeared from the surface of the screen protector, and it is looking like new. Therefore, i believe that these screen protector are self-healing.
About smudges and fingerprints, I think it gets dirty at the same rate as any other PET screen protector. However, I do think that TPU screen protector are harder to clean. It requires more effort to clean than PET and and tempered glass. I had to rub it almost twice as many times as I did with PET. Oh well, for the clarity and protection it provides, it doesn't bother me that much.

I am really close to ordering this product since I am sick and tired of trying to find a tempered glass that does the job. Well, I take that back. I know that coral guard one or whatever apparently does the job but it is like 30 bucks.
Is the TPU cover in between regular film protector and tempered glass as far as hardness and protection? How is the feel of the protector, more glass or film?

So I installed the screen protector yesterday and first of all I have to say it is a great fit. This is truly an edge to edge protector. Went on fairly easy, let it dry over night and I see no bubbles or peeling. As far as the material goes I'd say it's somewhere in between PET and those self healing films. This particular one is very clear with a small amount of texture (sticky feel), and under some lighting there is a slight rainbow effect. I'm used to glass screen protectors but this is a great compromise unless your willing to pay $30 for the full coverage ones. I'm also pretty picky about what goes on my phone and I honest give this a 5/5 for quality and price.

Yeah I ordered a two pack thank God. The first one was so bubbly that I took it off. Installed the second one and it still is bubbly but I tried to smooth it out. It has this weird indentation because of smoothing it out but whatever.
It's easier to tolerates than the horrible halo effect.

I had some weird stuff going on after the install but as it dried up it slowly went away. I install paint protection films on cars and this is very similar. Usually I let my customers know it takes about 2 days to fully dry, so hopefully yours is still in the drying phase.
I could not agree more though that damn halo effect on the regular protectors just kills the beauty of the phone.

Actually, it looks like the manufacturer is sending me another unit since I had issues with these. Any advice on putting these things on without causing any sort of surface damage? I can see indentations when viewing my protector at certain lighting.
I know you did a wet install but I don't think I want to go that route. Maybe I just need to be easier on the protector when I am pushing the bubbles out?
What is the difference in this and every other wet install protector that is not PET, but more that rubbery material?
Has anyone tried this screen protector with the Tech21 Frame case?

Wet install is best with a slightly soapy water solution and since our phones are water resistant its a no brainer. Only other suggestion is as you said, go easy when using the squeegee.

I haven't used to many wet install protectors but I'm really liking this one, even though it's not sold as a wet install. Like I said earlier it's a great compromise for the fit, not too rubbery and I haven't noticed any reduced screen resolution.

Some people have reported issues with certain cases, if your case has a lip that hugs the bezels it might cause peeling. I'm using the calicase ultra thin case with no issues.

lol don't do wet install cuz it freaking sucks. I recorded how I install my, will edit and post it soon. This is not even 30% as difficult as the G-color GS7 back protector, hell my skills are no joke and I had to give up on that one cuz it's literally impossible to install it without bubble.
Would it be the same http://www.ebay.com/itm/icroo-1-1-3...hash=item4d42230422:m:mh6L4r4ScGVKkUqkvj8WDEg ?
UPDATE:

Alright I am gonna give the wet install a shot.
What was your dilution with soap and water? Just a drop in a cup of water and mix it around? Did you use a sprayer or just use your hands?
Be careful with the soapy water. Soap lowers the surface tension of water and can get into the phone. Read that someone washed their phone and ruined it because of the soap.
