Hey people,
Rooted using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 OR
http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/05/root-unroot-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-i9100.html
Worked fine, I have superuser and I have downloaded and done other things that need rooting (unlock)
But when I reboot into recovery I am in stock recovery not CWM.. did I do something wrong?
Thanks

your link says you have two files. cwm and busybox. did you install both?
even if you have stock recovery, its not an issue as long as you're rooted. If you're going to install a custom kernel, you'll get a custom version of CWM anyways.
Hi Mates - i need help.
I just rooted my Galaxy S3 (i9300) and after it restarted, all i can see is just pure black screen.
- Prior to Rooting, here's my phone status:
Official Stock 4.1.2 Official Firmware
Never been rooted prior to this incident
What i used:
Odin 1.85
CF-Insecure-SGS3_XX_NEE_ALE8-v1.2
Can someone please help me?
Sometimes it doesn t get rooted. Check if you can boot into recovery or not by using button combo.
Post in General section.

after downloading cf.root 6.4 and flashing it via odin, still shows black screen.
Question - considering that i have flashed cf.root 6.4, will the procedure below brick my phone?
- install CWM 6.0.3.1
- reboot into CWM recovery
- install custom rom
Please advise me, mates...

You cannot install CWM recovery unless you root your phone. . Did you try going to recovery using button combo?? Sometimes, if roots after you manually go into recovery.
If not done, download Galaxy S3 unified toolkit and root using that.

If the cf root procedure was successful I wouldn't worry about installing a diff recovery just yet, lets get the phone booting 1st. Download a custom rom and get it moved onto your external sd card, Boot into recovery(from power off, press volume up, home button and power), make sure its custom and not default. Then install the custom rom zip and reboot it should hopefully fully reboot. then look into installing a newer custom recovery.

no..! you can flash CWM recovery even though the phone is not rooted! for sure! after flashing CWM recovery we can root the phone by flashing superuser.zip! i've done this many times!

If the recovery has been updated to the custom CWM recovery then yes you could flash a rom which will come with root and super user. But it must be the custom recovery if your still on the stock recovery u couldn't flash a custom rom.

Ohk, is the recovery stock recovery or custom (CWM) recovery. Anyways, try to wipe data and cache and boot. If not successful, install a custom ROM. But make sure the recovery is CWM recovery.

yes, saw it. its a custom rom. tried wipe data / cache but didn't work. will try to install custom rom sentinel now.
was able to install the custom rom but kept on rebooting after few minutes. it already happened thrice now.
anything i am missing?
It could be the insecure kernel you used earlier is making it unstable, probably if the custom rom doesn't install a kernel. Only thing I can think of is install an official Samsung g3 rom which should repair all the partitions that might of been damaged or corrupted, use it for a while to make sure no reboots. Then go through root and install of custom rom again. In theory creating a good foundation to install a custom rom on.
Just out of curiosity did u download an official Samsung rom before starting to flash in case u need to send it away or sell it on? If not what network/country are u using? Is the phone locked to the network or unlocked?
Edit:- I never used a kernel flash to root my phone just used cf root 6.4 to get root and custom recovery cwm. I only changed my recovery this weekend to Phil touch.

maybe the su binary in your system isnt recognized by the recovery. if you are using a bulit-in superuser, then clicking "yes" might cause problems……but I always click yes and nothing happens.

Two reasons:
- your recovery version in OLD, flash the newest 6.12.8 (can be flashed as zip in current recovery), and see if the issue continues:
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9300
- If you're using SuperSU, enter the app: it should suggest a restart to update Binary (enable it using CWM mode), if it doesn't help,
then try to reflash newest CF-Auto root: http://download.chainfire.eu/229/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip

I have update recovery and now i have solved thank you......
If you do click "Yes" it will simply flash SuperSU.zip . It is just like when you use CF-Root with Odin, but simpler. This wy you can always be sure that when you boot your ROM you don't have root access.
[URGENT HELP]
I was updating apps from playstore. So there was an update for superuser and i updated it as well. After the update superuser asked for some binary file update and had an option for installation through CWM/TWRP Recovery . Since i had it installed i selected that option and the phone botted to recovery and then nothing happened. I was expecting it to auto install. I try to reboot the phone but it boots to recovery everytime. What can i do to solve this? i dont want to flash a ROM because i need to backup contacts first
Next time, choose the "normal" option.
For your problem, reflash CWM through Odin or flash stock recovery.

Thanks Man! Worked phew.!
I had flashed cm13 in my moto e and installed superSU. When i open superSU , it asks me to select the method to update the binary. I chose "normal". It failed. And asked me to try again after reboot. That too failed. Due to this issue i am unable to use foldermount . Is there any solution?

Use version 2.65 or 2.67 (BETA) - It will use the system-less install (means it can be uninstalled from the Apps list).
Also when you flash the new nightlies, be sure to flash the SuperSU zip in recovery again, or else the error which u said earlier might crop up again.
NB: Do Not click on update binaries (normal or any other method, because that might cause issues which prevents the device from booting... I know this, because I myself have faced such problems earlier)
Bootloop while flashing superSU update zip
I tried flashing UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip using TWRP(checked mount-> system)
which made the device in the bootloop. Then i had to restore my backup to unbrick the device. So can you explain step by step how to update su binary?

Super SU 2.46 was built only for Lollipop ROMs.
Use SuperSU 2.65 or higher
Steps to install after a clean flash of the ROM:
In the Recovery, flash the SuperSU zip
First the phone will boot incompletely (not for all users though), then will boot normally... don't be afraid
You're done!!!
Steps to be followed while flashing new nightlies:
DON'T update automatically from CM Updater
Download the new zip of CM 13, and go to recovery
Wipe Dalvik/ART Cache and Cache only (Nohting else)
Flash the ROM
Flash the SuperSU zip
You're ready to reboot to the new nightly
Hope this helps
