As far as i understand flashing stock roms meant for a different region than mine(India/INU, in my case) will cause problems(soft brick)..Now, my question is, what about custom Roms?? Are they meant for specific regions?? Can i flash any custom rom made for GT I 9300 ?? Or have i missed something??

Nope. You can flash any region stock firmware/rom. My phone came with a France region and I have a UK firmware on it. Just make sure the model number is the same. GT-I9300 for me, think yours too.

You have no right to ask me to shut up for speaking my free mind because pasting threads over and over again flooding posts after posts like a vigilante towards the threads that leads to many pages which you could have just ended it by one short simple answer. Besides, you do know that sometimes the search function is not 100% noob proof. If you're sick of the op above don't reply let others do it. It's Q&A. Nobody points a gun at you to start replying every noobs that exist in the world with your copying and pasting skills inserted together with rude remarks. Likewise you're free to report me if you like. Otherwise shut up and let me speak my mind. Good copying and pasting skills of yours is contributing a lot in here.

Hi guys ^^
Just got two questions which bother me ...
1. Anything new about that internal counter? ... Read about the secound counter in the S3 before ... one which can be reset by USB JIG and one which is really hard to get to. Is there are a opinion to resett it at the moment?
2. Secound Question is pretty nooby I know but ...
Which are the leading Custom Roms right now? Yeah I know depends to the user etc ... but there are always very famous and good ones like on the S2 it has been Checkrom v7 ... Cynag ... etc
How is the development at the S3 right now? and what are the main advantages at the moment of the custom roms.
To reset the flash counter use triangle away the development for s3 is very good loads of Roms.
And I personally can't comment on Roms just try them all see which is best for you.

Good day, everybody!
I've seen that there are here many great experts in this domain, so that I would like, with your permission, to ask why SG S3 has to be factory unlocked before rooting? All the guides provided on pages I've found on internet specify that (as a newbie, I only can assume that factory locked means that the device is working only on a specific mobile carrier, which is applicable in my case).
I also want to get a newer stock version of Android, and I dont't know if the latest is 4.1.2 or 4.2; maybe you can tell me.
From what I've read, in order to do so, I firstly have to root my phone, using a method for the specific kernel I have (XXDLJ4), and then install the software, using clockworkmod and the stock Android kitt. If I've understood it completly wrong, please let me know.
I can figure that you have been hearing this kind of questions over and over in your life, and I understand you perfectly, but I wouldn't be coming here I didn't you're the best.
The AP of my device is 9300XXDLJ4 with CP I9300BVDLI1.
Many thanks for your patience and time,
Cristi

I forgot to mention that my build number is JRO03C.I9300XXDLJ4.

Device locked is for the networks to decide normally a network has the paid for option to unlock .
You should start by reading the FAQS and Guides .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927113
As said this is Samsung phone that uses Samsung firmware .You can of course install a custom Android build rom .
Root or custom roms or rom counter above zero or system modified status all void warranty .

You should ask in the Q&A section, but as you are at it, you will find this interesting , as it has all the infos you are searching for :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286
Now just read learn and learn again, if you have a device you want to root, just learn how it works, don't wait for anyone to teach you, learn from your mistakes, and confugure your device the way you wanna use it .

Many people have spent a lot of time creating tutorials for beginners like you. Please search the forum for your answer. And yes, flashing a custom rom voids your warranty, but you can always return to the stock software.

(1) for backups etc. have a look in the stickies and FAQ thread of the Q&A section, all included in the how-tos
(2) should you update? decide for yourself...if you cannot live without "these features" I guess you have no other choice
(3) is it safe? nothing is 100% safe

Agree and that is due to multiple guides posted all over the place and often repeating those that are stickied .Its a fact of questions and other junk posted in General section cluttering up and hiding the guides .
But as 99% refuse to even start by reading post one why put any effort in to make it more accessible .
In my view we should have one section with Q&A including all general topics . Plus one locked section for guides and faqs with new posts at the discretion of the mods only .

That's a really good idea. Unfortunately it would need to be a site wide change, which would be hard to get admin buy in for. They could perhaps have a "lesser" mod, like a guide admin user base that could manage that for each device, because they would need to understand teh guides and if they were accurate or not anyway.
You should suggest it

That's actually a great idea indeed, you got my vote .
The only challenge will be then, and I guess it is valid not only for XDA but also in real life, how to get people to read first and not go the "easy" way of posting/asking the same old question.
Nevertheless a guide/faq section would be a good start.

That isn't totally true, im on 4.2.2 custom for 3 weeks now and can't say it's less stable than 4.1.2
Rooting always voids your warranty, it means it's on your own risk. Sometimes when you soft-brick your phone you can go back to stock, for what i've read.

You need to understand the basics and backup your efs folder before you destroy your phone.
Please don't start new threads for questions that have been answered a hundred times before and are all in the faq.

btw I9300 bootloader is not locked but do read the stickies as it is a different device than all american and several other sgs3 variants

i scoured this place but i cant find a way to know the bootloader status i found out that xoom is locked and some xperia devices and that i can determine the bootloader status by the time it take on the boot screen but this doesnt sound very accurate is there a code to put it in the dial pad ?
Bootloader is irrelevant, it's a separate operating system that plays no part in recovery or rom.

actually the verizon sgs3 does have a locked bootloader. so it is not always the manufacturer that makes the decisions. in the us the carriers have much more input especially in regards to updates. att just recently began updates to 4.12.
have a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756338 they are all samsung galaxy s 3 but none are identical . some are exynos , some are snapdragon. ram , video boards, radios all different variants. that is why it is important to know your device
All the US versions are the same hardware... Besides Radio related stuff...

I've been using the 4.3 Wanam version with Yank custom kernel, as the official version IMO is not production quality yet.
If you just want a normal upgrade through OTA or Kies, my advice would be to wait as the current 4.1.2 stock firmware is very solid.
