I picked up an mdk s4 with cm11 installed. I'd like to test the ROM waters.
I'd like to try another kit kat ROM, and a Google edition ROM. I'm most interested in fast smooth operation, and stability. Any suggestions?
Well this thread will most likely be quickly shut down because you should make that decision on your own by testing each one, but I would try Vanir and Kitkang. If you like touchwiz I would go with hyperdrive hands down.

Not sure if it's available for Verizon s4 but I have Carbon 4.4 running on my sprint s4 and it's awesome. Like stated above though xda isn't for saying what the '' best rom '' is. Just for opinions and experiences pretty much. Flash away and report back to the respective threads.
Good luck!

That would be CyanogenMod. That is by far the closest you will ever get to a Nexus device, but you will be giving up a bit of battery life, many of the SPen functions, and MultiWindow.
What you will be getting in return, is the beautiful stock look, being on the latest android version, and having a completely "Debloated" ROM.
Ok, I've heard a lot about cyan, but never gave it a shot. Where do I get it from and is it easy to install. Do I do it through tw recovery like any other Rom?

That's the link to the official nightlies for CM 10.1, installation instructions are in the OP of course. Yes you do use TWRP recovery and install it just like any touchwiz rom. Personally AOSP roms always end up getting buggy on my device, YMMV.
If I were you I would look into TW roms that can give you an AOSP look. I'll edit in some links.

Normally I would say CyanogenMod or a Rom close to it. For this phone the S-pen is affected by the Rom you choose. A few of the Touchwiz Roms are pretty stable and the AOSP Roms removes most of the S-pen functionality. You should try a couple since everyone's experience is different. I'm running Beans Rom and it's pretty fast without changing any voltages.
I've used clean rom a few times and have always been happy. I usually use nova as well. I'm just liking for something that's fast, stable and doesn't have overwhelming options. Does any roms out there have the on screen keys like the nexus devices do?

Only AOSP roms do, and moonrom or minitab when in phablet/tablet modes.

For a good aosp rom, I would recommend a few of these.
1. ParanoidAndroid (my favorite)
2. AOKP
3. Cyanogen Mod (obvious good one)
4. LiquidSmooth
You will lose some nice tw features but there are some apps on the playstore that can give you similar spen features on aosp (don't want to post links as I don't own the rights). I myself would go for a tw ROM and just put nova launcher on there, but I love a great stock phone as much as the next guy. Hope I can help in some way but most Roms are just all opinion based. I would try around and post back your favorite.

Correct. I've tried a few others, but I keep coming back to Hyperdrive by Sbreen94. :good:
I've wanted to try Synergy, but it seemingly doesn't want to load on my phone.
thanks for you response

Hyperdrive RLS4
New person, new thread, same story.
Not reading.
I have used both Hyperdrive RSL4 and CleanROM 1.5, and I am sticking with CleanROM. My reasoning is that Hyperdrive is a little too buggy for me, even though it has more tweaks and customization options.
Before you settle on one of those two you should definitely check out Gruesome and Sac's ROM. I haven't tried CleanROM but I was on the latest version of HyperDrive and Sacs blows it out of the water.

CleanROM...I hear Sac's is good too. It really depends what you are looking for. Hyperdrive has too much customization for my liking...I like stock look and feel with all the bloat gone and optimizations done. If thats what your looking for then CleanROM or Sac's is probably the way to go.

I seriously recommend Eclipse TW 2.0 by nitro. My favorite ROM by far. Imagine a ROM that looks like AOSP, even the status bar, but has all of the nifty TouchWiz features. And if you use Ktoonz's recommended setting, you also get amazing battery life. I love this ROM. Snappy too.

There are plenty of awesome ROMs available. Ultimately, you'll just have to try a few that grab your attention and see what is best for you. I bounced around between many of the TW ROMs before I finally landed on CM 10.1.3 RC2 and I'm very happy with it. See what works for you, TW vs AOSP then find the ROM that you like most.
There's a bunch of factors to consider, the first and most important is what you like, we're all different!
FWIW, I've tried BoneStock and Hyperdrive, they're both very good ROMS but I always go back to CM 10.2 because it does everything I want, it works to perfection and I have some apps that won't play nice with TouchWiz ROMs. Battery life is adequate for me.
As always, YMMV!

Ok so I have a mdk version of this phone and I want to put a solid rom on it what one is the best do you think of the non tw ones? And another stupid question if I flash like dirty unicorn does it lock down the bootloadrr?
There is no right answer to this... the best rom is the one you like the most, so you need to start flashing and finding this out for yourself.
Flashing roms will not lock your bootloader. Only if you take an official update will it do that.
what the above user said is correct, the best ROM depends on the user. However, i have a rooted mdk gs4 and i was using stock for quite a whole and happy with it. after a while tho, the slight lag and other annoyances got to me so i decided to try a rom. I should note that this is my first android device, I am a long time iphone user and jailbreak expert, so i'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I decided to try Hyperdrive recently and I absoultely love it. its basically a hybrid of touchwiz for gs4 and note 3 with all of the bloated BS crap removed and lots of customization options. it is much faster and solves some of my gripes and was easy to install. I also chose to try it first because it was similar to what i was already on so it was a good first ROM choice in my opinion. it was also super easy to install. I am gonna try CM11 when it gets released to see if I like it, but for now i would recommend you try hyperdrive

All the aosp roms bring something to the table. The touch wiz roms for this phone are great as well. There are fan boys for all of them.
See what you like.
That said. I can tell you which developers I'd follow. I say this based on user support and rom support, and listening to features requests, and a quality product. or a combination there of. Sbreen94, nitroglycerin33, dubbsy, beanstown106 , Bdogg for DU is starting out right. Andybones is also tops but I haven't seen as much of him lately.
Edit: forgot DaMadOne is is doing nice things on his aokp kang.
With the big aosp custom rom's you have a ton of peer support buy typically @ the mercy of whatever the larger team is working on in terms of bug fixes etc...
I have less experience with sacs so can't say there.

I'm sure someone will give those answers but usually those things are subject to however the individual sets up their ROM.
Both are TW 4.3 so all the same mods can apply. All the same xposed. I'd say since Mr Reggie Cheeks is theming the hell out of Baja ROM its definitely worth checking out. And Surge1223 is one of the Devs... he's done so much for our phones. If I go back to Touchwiz I'm definitely trying Baja.
Not to knock Hyperdrive either cuz SBreen is also the man!!
Guess all I'm getting at here is they're both awesome. And like I said I'm sure someone can give you their opinions too.
Happy flashing!

I've tried both and agree, it depends on how you setup your phone and what you like. Both are good ROMs. However, I have to make a plug here for Eclipse. Eclipse doesn't have as many "bells and whistles" as either of the other two, but in my opinion it is the most stable and smooth ROM available right now. Anyone looking for a fast, smooth, stable ROM with great battery performance should give Eclipse a try. My hats off to all three developers/teams that have provided us with these ROMs...Great Job.

Agree, all have great Roms.
Now at this moment Baja rom is at 4.4.3 KitKat and HyperDrive is not. This makes deciding easier for now. However, on jellybean I personally preferred the clean / fast HyperDrive. Once HyperDrive has kitkat , I will def. jump back to it.
Things I noticed about Baja final rom (4.4.2l;
1.) The phone doesn't seem to shut down.
2.) I already received a message saying not enough space on device to install new apps.
3.) Start up time takes longer than HyperDrive
HyperDrive (4.3)
1.) quick boot up
2.) extreemly fast
3.) Has great added tweaks/apps I use
