Well I had ordered my G-tablet from Amazon and when I got it it was sealed in the cellophane and everything looked in order. When I charged it and powered it up though it didn't go through the new setup per say as the manual states.
Plus many apps were already on the home screen like angry birds. Plus a live walpaper was set as the walpaper. I had trouble trying to install some apps plus I kept getting force closes on almost all apps. I decided to do a factory reset.
Let me say now it looked and performed like a brand new one going through the steps. Like setting up family and name accounts. setting the time. wireless connection...
This makes me unhappy because anytime somebody returns a product for whatever reason the item is suppose to go back to the manufacturer to be checked out and repaired if necessary. Then I believe they are sold as refurbished.
This sounds like someone at amazon got it back under the belief that somebody just wanted to return it. They in turn put plastic wrap on it and resold it.

Send it back stating what you just stated. It's your money you decide what you want to spend it on. You were purchasing new and that is what you were expecting, however, that is not what you feel you got. So send it back for one that makes you happy.
I believe a lot of gTablets are coming like this.. I got mine 2 or 3 months ago, and experienced exactly this.
As for Angry Birds, I believe they advertise this as coming pre-loaded on the gTablet.
You can return it, but I bet many here will tell you that you'll wind up with exactly the same scenario on the new one they send you.
Mine came the same way. I remember someone posting here that a Viewsonic rep said many (or all?) tablets were tested before being sealed up. If you load up the web browser, you might even notice it's got CNN.com cached and displayed, which seems to be part of the test suite. Your tab is likely new as Amazon stated, you just weren't the first human to touch it

No its ok....I'm just glad I decided to select the factory reset. Because there were many things going wrong that shouldn't have been..As far as angry birds being include, or not is not what really told me someone had set this tablet up because it didn't go through the normal process of step by step setup procedure.
I had several apps on the home screen, which when I reset it I had very few and no angry birds, but hey it worked and setup an account like a new tablet out of the box was suppose to..
So all is well. I'm just stating this isn't right if Amazon is doing this with returns.
Somebody had mine not knowing what they were doing that caused many problems...

did yours come with the inability to install basic apps like amazon app store app, or force close on everything you did. nothing would play correctly. Videos. I bet not. So whomever had their hands on this one did a little more than they were suppose to..
When new it asks you to set the time and if your account if a family and the names of the family, setup email, setup wireless in a certain order. My tablet didn't do that....any of that. It was like powering up somebody elses tablet without their email account or wifi.
Paul
Anyway all is good..
To others if you have one new out of the box and have a lot of problems..force closing of apps then I suggest you just do the factory reset. save you a lot of headache down the road
Assuming you had the falling leaves live wallpaper, this is how they are currently shipped.
This is how they come. I had lots of apps FC right out of the box. As well as all the icons on the desktop and no 'new user' setup. This is normal as long as it had the plastic wrap on it and the actual unit looked untouched.

ok this is normal and weird at the same time with the ( this is how they come live wallpaper and apps force closing), but the strange thing that everyone will have to agree on is the restore, or resetting of the tablet where e
verything is suppose to go back to the way it was out of the box. Live wallpaper and the installed apps like angry birds should have been there. Right? I mean if this is how they ship. No not on my tablet. i got aw blue background with clouds and only the basic apps, which is fine because with the system reset I didn't have anymore forced close apps and i was able to download and install amazon app store without problem and actually use it. thank u to everyone that commented
Mine was the same way when I got it... After I turned it off for the first time and back on, it gave me the "out of the box" setup screen. It does seem like Viewsonic would want to make a better impression for the user.

I wouldn't know -- about 10 minutes after I received it, I had already flashed a different ROM After reading the horror stories, I was not interested in even one minute of the stock experience.
Seems from my memory most of the ones from Woot.com came like this. Mine did.
I got mine from Woot and it came with Angry Birds preinstalled. The worst thing is that I can't even play, it show a blank screen when I tried to run the application. Only when I update the ROM to 3588, the apps worked!
I have two gtablets and they both came pretty much the same way. Now you should be able to understand why the gtablet somewhat flopped when they were first released with software like this. I have kept one of them stock that my 5 year old daughter uses and mine has Cyanogenmod 7 on it and they both actually work well. Out of the box was pretty ugly though.

How do you flash or change the ROM?
I bought 2 gtablets fromwoot and both came intheexact same state. Never felt used but both tablets hadthe exact test proceduredone even had the icons on the sameplace somaybe its a nandroid(or master pre rom) made tohave angrybirds preloaded
Any way both got rooted and rommed so i dont complain

Mine was the same. The packaging looked new, but the extra launcher on it meant it wasn't direct from the factory.
After a week of not being sure if I wanted to send it back, I found a rom I like, and am very happy with it.

Check out the subforum here in the gTablet called "Android Development." If you read the instructions and feel comfortable doing it, you gTab experience will be much better.
I've finally got my TP in the mail yesterday, but after doing the firmware updates, all it does is lock up and reboot. I'm returning it to Best Buy today. Now the question is, if I want an ICS tablet (at least dual core), do I need to order another TP? Or do I have other options? I know the Tab won't be getting ICS.
Problems after upping to ICS are caused by data carried over from honeycomb not being compatible with ICS. A simple data wipe would take care of it... but I guess that's too much work. Yeah, just return it and get another one. I'm sure after 5 returns or so a simple data wipe would sound like less work.
Excuse me, your highness, but I've already done a factory reset. Twice. Not only that, but there was no data on it to begin with. Opened box> OTA .33> OTA ICS> Freeze bootloop bootloop freeze bootloop freeze bootloop bootloop
Well, you get the picture.

anyways, the sammy 10.1 is getting the update from what i understand. just not the old tab (7"). the samsung 10.1 and xoom2 are good options, but why not just swap the prime for a working one? Besides the GPS, its a perfect tablet, quadcore, keyboard, high res screen with super ips. I have worked with several tablets including the ipad, but this is definitly the best one thus far.

Not sure that asking about other tablets belongs in a prime thread?
as of this second, no other tablet (aside from that super cheap one that was technically first, but was running a dev build of ICS) has official ICS.
i think there's an alpha of CM9 for the galaxy tab (tegra2 models), which will get an ICS update at some point, but going by samsung's track record for updates, that will probably be at the end of summer.
the biggest plus asus has imo, aside from providing an excellent bargain for the price of its tablets is that they have so far been the fastest at updating their products, i mean hell, the ICS update for the prime got released EARLY, who else that is an android OEM has ever released ANYTHING early?
the xoom still doesn't have ICS and it's a google experience device, so that should show how fast asus is at updating.
personally, i'd go ask for another prime if you want to own something right now, while there's new stuff with fancy panels in the pipeline, nothing else is going to be out before summer that can compete with the prime.
my guess is the tf101 is going to be the next tablet with a 4.0 update, then it's a crapshoot as to who gets it out next, probably acer or toshiba, then moto, then (eventually) samsung.
I am still waiting on my TP and have been since the 24th of dec I researched for MONTHS before I picked it. there is nothing that will hit this tablets caliber for at least 1/4-1/2 the year. Asus is cheep( tablet wise) and updates are out FAST

WW update to ICS went fine here, sounds like you've been very unlucky - should be easier to fix than replace though.
Hey all,
So i'm in a dilemma. I currently have a Droid Razr (rooted with eclipse) on ICS. I also have a Galaxy Tab 2 7" (unrooted). I'm trying to play a game called Order and Chaos (gameloft online). It says in game that it doesn't recognize either device (in game), resulting in me NOT being able to play.
Breif Backstory: Before my Razr had ICS, and was on GB, I followed instructions here for editing the build.prop and tricking or spoofing the phone into thinking it was a Droid3 (phone compatible with the game). I could download, open, update and play the game. (Once game worked- changed back the build.prop and had no problems).
NOW that I have ICS, I brick the phone every time I try to edit the build.prop like before. I tried to install the .apk directly and that didn't work. I assume the game checks while loading.
Does anyone know if it is even possible to trick the new ICS rom into thinking it is an older model phone like the x2 or droid3?
Or can I "convert" or trick it into thinking it is a Galaxy s3, or other phone that DOES work with the game?
And same question goes for the Galaxy tab 2, tricking it into being a 1st gen galaxy tab (which works with the game)?
Stressed out and just looking for some expert help because all I want to do is drink some beers, sit on my ass and play a game.
Thanks in advance guys and girls
Not an expert (or even close...) but by any chance do you use Titanium backup? Because if so, maybe the apk is stored there...Don't know if this is a "paid" app, but if not, you can probably find the apk online...
I had a similar issue with Tiny Tunes. Both daughters wanted it, only one phone could get it. Downloaded it on one. Backed it up on my pc. Connected other phone, dragged and dropped. It worked on both phones....
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk 2
It is a paid app. However i did find the apk onlkne and tried that route. Stilll gives me an in game error about not recognizing the device. I have a feeling it scans the device for "compatability" on startup, which is why thephone has to be spoofex as another one.
Tried the titanium backup but. That didnt seem to work. Fml. Anyone else have any ideas?

Thank you
what about changing the android.version numbers too? Considering that Droid 3's official updates only went as far as gingerbread.

Ahhh calex.... great observation. So is it possible to trick the phone into thinking it is a different one, on ICS.. Say for instance a galaxy s3 or does someone know a phone similar to the droid razr that will work?
Anyone?
Hi Ive been trying to root my Nabi 2 tablet to access the Google Play Store. Ive downloaded ADB and followed instructions, Ive also got the correct drivers etc, when i ran the root tool by jmz I chose option 1 and it ran through the process, is there anything else I need to during during this as I then booted up and it was just the same as before?! Im normally an apple fan and experienced in jailbreaking etc but this is my first android as Im trying to exchange all my apple devices for android lol. Can some help me find a step by step full tutorial as Ive been trying to follow the one in this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1905674 but I cant understand what else I need to do?! Thanks in advance
Anybody?! JMZTAYLOR if you see this can you please write a quick tutorial on what I need to do as Im clearly doing something wrong. Its probably just something so simple Im missing?! Any advice would be highly appreciated, sorry if this post is extremely noobish Im normally very adaptable!
Any Luck?
I was just wondering, it's been over a month with no post here. Did you get it working? If so can you post your solution or a link to the thread with the solution you used?
Not sure about the root tool for your device, but any good root tool will install a superuser app, such as Superuser:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
Not sure if you got your issues sorted yet but if you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905674 I am sure someone could help you. I just rooted 2 in about 20 minutes over the weekend. Good luck
There's no need to root the nabi for the play store...
http://everythingnabi.blogspot.com/2012/08/googlie-booglie.html
Interesting, except for step 21:
21. Do not update or attempt to install any apps, as it will force close the Google Play Store. The apk file installed is not fully functional on the nabi 2 Tablet. It does however allow for the purchase of Books, Movies and Music. The following pop-up will appear if you attempt to update or purchase an app.
If you root you will have a fully functional Play Story as well as text AND video on Google Talk plus many other features

My son is getting this for christmas. I know really all he cares about are the google play apps and youtube and other features that need this process in order for him to achieve his wishes... (whew)

Any warnings that i should heed other than a voided warranty?

I want to get Google Play working on my son's Nabi 2 as well, but I'm pretty concerned over the touch calibration issue some people are having on the ROM thread about rooting it. I've only had one android device (my galaxy s2) and thought about rooting it, but couldn't find an overly compelling reason to do so. Now that the Nabi 2 needs it, I would be loathe to brick it/mess it up to get this calibration issue. Even if I try on my s2, this Nabi seems a tad different for some reason.

That is a very rare issue. If you root it and have a problem with the touch screen it only effects recovery software once it's rooted and gapps installed you won't have to go back to recovery.

It is indeed a rare issue, if the script goes fine, you shouldn't have to do anything in recovery yourself anyway. Here is the gapps.zip that fixes the 'android upgrading' on every boot.

If you want a more manual approach, check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016463
It's written for Ubuntu, but the commands are easy to adapt for Windows as well. You install adb and fastboot differently and you remove 'sudo' from the commands.
Does rooting the Nabi2 get rid of the Monarch UI? All I want to do is get GApps on it, but I want to keep the Monarch UI for the kids.

Nabi 2 works great with Amazon App store (over 50,000 apps). Ex. Unless I installed Minecraft PE, my son would have 2 tablets for Christmas, his with no minecraft and mine with. In daddy mode you can get amazon and the installed apps are manageable in the add/remove to decide which apps to allow your child to see. PS: DO NOT add Amazon store to Nabi mode (unless your child is older, or unless your rich and don't mind your child maxing out a credit card on apps). Personally, I have jailbroken ipads for friends and rooted my last Motorola phone, but I wouldn't risk and consequences of screwing up your child's brand new tablet. You can go from Hero to Zero if you mess up.

Personally I would go ahead and root/gapps so you can have Google Play, use AdAway, etc etc.
Just be prepared to lose a bit more battery life when you install the Amazon app store. I have heard about it taking up a bit more battery due to licence checks, running in the background and such.

For some reason I can't download anything from the play store all of a sudden. It worked fine the other day, but today it gives me an error when ever I try to download a new app or update an installed app.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for the WiFi problem?
Also - stupid question - is it technically feasible to install the Play store without rooting?
I took a punt and asked my friend vacationing in china to buy me an HTC One dual sim.
It came, and guess what? It's impotent, castrated, it's an almost android ....
I knew china and google is in the middle of a spitting contest but I didn't make the connection. The phone has NO GOOGLE SERVICES which means: no gmail, no google maps, no play store....... :crying:
Lesson learned and BE WARNED...NEVER BUY SMARTPHONES FROM CHINA
What can I do? I'm dying here, it's a wee bit on the expensive side as a crotch scratcher.....
I have googled some sites and it requires me to root the phone and install the google api apk but I don't even know if the htc one dual sim can be rooted yet, or even if there is a custom rom for it.
Can anyone alleviate my suffering? It's here in my hands, running perfectly, so beautiful, BUT it's almost as useless as my old nokia feature phone without the app store (and I don't want to be sideloading apps and their updates all the time) .... arggghhhh
