Ok. First of all yes I have tried searching and reading. I never had any problem with my DROID X2 which is all the experience I have. However with all the different base build recover safe strap I'm getting highly confused
I have the Verizon S4. I got it when it was still new. I was able to get Clockwork Recovery installed. I've been using Hyperdrive. Went trying to go from 10.2 to 12 it worked but I have sever issuses. Google account looses all my info. Google search crashes every 10 seconds. S voice wake up cannot be enabled. Samsung Account asks to endlessly update.
I figure I need to update my phone build? I keep reading you lose your recovery? Please help.
Thank you so much for your time as I'm sure it's valuable and I appreciate any you spend helping me.

Do NOT update your phone build or you will surely regret it. Have you tried wiping and reinstalling hyperdrive? Or re downloading then reinstalling? Or tried a different rom?
So my old phone build that had 4.2 on it can run the newer 4.3 build for hyperdrive?
I verify checksums. Always wipe cache data dalvik

Yes. You should be able to run any rom for the s4 if you are on the mdk build with a custom recovery.

Hello everyone,
I've got a TF201 that's rooted, unlocked with TWRP 2.2.2.1 recovery. The past couple of nights I've been trying to load CM10 on it with the nightly releases. I've tried a few different ones but they all give me the same result.
Here is what I do:
Boot to recovery
Do Nandroid backup (just to be safe)
Perform factory rest
Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
Install CM10(in this last attempt it was cm-10-20130324-NIGHTLY-tf201)
Install gapps (gapps-jb-20120111-signed)
Reboot.
When it reboots, it just gets stuck at the ASUS splash screen and never goes further. I'm able to power off, reboot into recover and load the Nandroid backup and get back to the stock rom, but I'd really like to use CM10 on this device. As a side note, I'm currently on the latest stock ROM.
Has anyone else seen this or does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thank you!

Likewise. The 0322 posted in the dev forum works for me. I get the same issue when I try to update to 0324 and apparently this is happening for other devices too.

Great to know it's not just me with PEBKAC error or something.
I'm not able to find the 0324 nightly, would you happen to have a link?
Thank you for your reply and help!
I got it from Settings -> About Tablet -> Updates and select "All avail updates"
I'm all new to CM10

Sadly that only works if you already have CM10 installed. I'm still on the stock ASUS rom.

Yay! That one worked and I'm up and running on CM 10.1
Thank you!
I've been running 10.1.2, but this morning was notified of update. So I installed the update.
However, the update killed my Wi-Fi, in that I was getting signal, but no internet connection.
So I tried to roll back to 10.1.2, but now have the constant CyanogenMod loading animation and it's been like it for an hour. So I held down the power and volume button and it does exactly the same thing, reboots and get's stuck with the animation?
I can't turn if off or anything?
Can someone please help?

Have had similar problems would love a dev input here, think it has something to do with having to separately flashing a compatible kernel? Or a bug in cm recovery when whipe? Anyways flash meow kernel and ROM, then in twmp recovery wipe all under advanced, then reinstall cm, that should fix it for you.

so my phone ran out of battery overnight and i charged it not using the stock charger cuz i was at a friends house, it booted all the way to the lockscreen, then shut off and booted again. i let it charge some more and it just went it to a bootloop, every so often reaching the lockscreen and turning off again. i have safestrap installed and i am on the latest 4.2 build. im thinking that i need to odin reset, but i want to see if theres a differerent way so i dont lose any data. if i do have to odin, how does one go about doing that?
thanks

If you clear cache and dalvik cache you won't lose any data or settings. If that doesn't work then do the factory reset in TWRP (safestrap) . That will make it as if you had a new phone. ( except the Safestrap and root access I believe). You will have to re download apps and change settings back to your liking, but it's better than having to odin back to stock.

safestrap failed wiping the regular cache, but dalvik worked. got to the lockcsreen again and it even gave me a vibrate for my pattern but then it shut off again. right after the verizon boot animation theres a popup window that says "Android is upgrading" with "optimizing app XXX of XXX". ive seen this before, but only very occasionally. what exactly does this mean?
By the way thank you guys for helping, especially on new years

I believe that is the normal process for dalvik to rebuild itself
"Android is upgrading" can come from wiping Dalvik cache, which is temporary info about your apps, that would need to be re mapped to the Android os. It can also come from doing a dirty flash or ota.
Your beginning post was about your data though, If you can get into safe strap then you should be able to mount your device to your pc, copy over what data you need, then wipe or Odin flash to bring it all back.

Smart, didnt know TWRP can do that. couldnt i just use the factory wipe feature in safestrap?
You could use factory wipe but your data at that point would be gone. If your not worried about the data then sure.
If data truly is not a concern though Just download the Odin tar for what build you want and start new.
To answer your other question think of Odin as a recovery disc you would use on your computer. Destructive restore. There are some good posts about here in xda or search Google for Samsung s4 Odin and I know your find some good reads.
Good luck

would it just be easier to do the safestrap wipe instead of an Odin one? ive read up on Odin and it seems a lot more complicated than just using safestrap
ive decided that data isnt important because most everything is saved in google play and plus. so what is the most reliable way to get my phone working again? Safestrap reset?

Safestrap would be easier. I would give that a try, because if it doesn't work your only other option would be Odin.

Glad you got it sorted out! Now make a backup after you get it set back up to make it easier if it happens again
Hello everyone, tonight I attempted to install Cyanogenmod 10.2 onto my phone, and now I have a bit of a problem. When I made my nandroid backup, I think it went onto my internal storage, and was deleted when I did a factory reset. I wasn't really aware of this, and had to go into recovery and set up the phone multiple times (the rom didn't ever seem to take), and now when I power up my phone, I get the stock recovery mode, with it saying "Could not do normal boot" and "ODIN MODE" on the next line. Is there anything I can do to salvage my poor phone? I realize that I screwed up majorly with the nandroid backup, but hopefully there's something that can be done.
Thanks for your help, regardless of the outcome.

Yep. That seemed to work, I'm back in the OS. Now, what would be the best way to install CM 10.2? I've installed safestrap but I don't really want to go further unless I'm sure of what I'm doing, and google/youtube haven't been very helpful
EDIT: it seems that installing it is impossible since I'm on the mk2 broadband. Oh well. I'll just wait for someone to break the restrictions

I am currently rooted with TRWP recovery installed and have been testing out the CM11 Beta for the Sprint LG G3. I have experienced this HW reset twice, which was when i first installed this ROM it had trouble going through the setup process. I ended up going back to my recovery to try a reinstall which worked until tonight. There was an update for a few apps that i had installed from the play store and decided to allow them to update. The phone froze which led to the HW reset screen and gave me the option to either enter DL mode or simply reboot. I chose the reboot option to get it to my custom recovery so that no more havoc can be caused. What should i do to stop this HW reset from occurring? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please note that i would like to continue using CM11 as my daily. Thanks.
