Specify your 'reception problem'. Do you get the error "Not registered on any network"? If so do check your IMEI. Your efs partition maybe corrupted either due to flashing roms or due to the efs version change if you downgraded to a older version of android. If you can make/receive calls but have poor/low reception then the problem can be your rom or if you didnt do a clean install.

[Q] How exactly are modem and samsung firmware versions related if at all?

On the modem list page I see a reference to Samsung firmware versions and Google codenames as per modem. (Modems for 4.1.2, JB and such). And I was wondering what exactly is the relation between a modem version and the Samsung firmware version if any? If I understand correctly the modem itself (without RIL modules) is a firmware in itself related to specific vendor hardware, I understand how RIL modules might change from version to version as they are driver modules (from what I gather) or something of that sorts.
If I'm mistaken please correct me and lead me on the right path, I basically wanna know if I could flash older modems for my SGS 3 if I'm running let's say a ROM (SuperNexus) based on 4.2.2 firmware when all modems are for 4.1.2 but I would very much like to know how are the modem (and RIL modules) and Samsung versions connected.
Thank you for any help you may provide
You can flash any modem but no guarantee it works .Would not want to flash ICS modems on JB firmware though .
Modem is generally either a location modem based upon a general area or a vendor modem that may be more specific to a network .
General rule is to try modems starting from your country .
As noone has opened up modems we don't really know differences .
No idea what you mean by Google codenames the phone is a Samsung .

Thanks for the response but that's my question, you said it's ok to flash any modem yet you say you wouldn't flash ICS modems on JB firmware. Why is that? How are the modem and firmware bound? or are you just referring to bad modem performance. If the modem is hardware firmware in itself why does it have to follow any matching device firmware (ICS, JB)?
Thanks again

Generally bad performance with ICS modems on JB possible that's to do with drivers .
It does not have to follow you can put any modem on any firmware apart from the ones with a different network band .
As i said modem is all guesswork and trial and error compounded by no accurate testing method .
RIL is rather confusing as i find no difference with wrong RIL compared to the matching RIL .

[Q] (i9300) No Network Data after Flashing Omega ROM v46.1

Hi,
After flashing latest Omega ROM v46.1 (android 4.2.2) everything was working until I disconnected from WiFi and the Network Data wasn't working. It says "Emergency Calls Only" when bring down the notification bar. I looked at my "about device" and I noticed that my imei had changed to "0004999010640000" Which is unusual however I can't find a solution since i forgot my real imei.
I need help quick. I can't receive or send calls and texts and I can't use my unlimited data plan. I checked and its got nothing to do with the network provider and I also put the right APN settings but still no result.
Everything worked fine on CyangonMod 10.1.2 but ever since I changed to Omega v46.1. My network won't work. Can someone please reply fast since I need to use my phone and I am hesitating to wipe and flash anything else as it took a long time to restore my apps and data and settings as it might not show any results.
Extra information:
Current Modem = XXUFME7
Baseband = i9300XXUFME7

Please read general > sticky roll-up thread. read IMEI thread.
DID YOU BACK UP YOUR EFS FOLDER? IF YES YOU CAN RESTORE IT ,IF NOT THAN YOU CAN TRY TO FLASH A NEWER BASEBAND LIKE EMG4 OR EMG2. THE BASEBAND IS PROBABLY THE ISSUE HERE. AS THE BASEBAND YOU ARE CURRENTLY USING IS FME7. YOU ARE ON AN "E" SERIES BASEBAND THE ROM IS BASED ON THE 4.2.2 LEAK FROM MAY. G SERIES BASEBANDS BECAME AVAILABLE AROUNG JULY . THEY ALTERED THE EFS PARTITION SO THAT OLDER BASEBANDS CANT USE IT. [Q] i9300 freezing with Cyanogenmod 10.2

I have an international version of the Galaxy S3, the i9300 and I'm facing freezes with Cyanogenmod 10.2. I heard that these problems could be caused by baseband version, I tried to use GetRIL to update the RIL and it updated successfully but only the RIL, how can I check which version of the baseband I must to update and how do I update the baseband ? It is done via Odin ? Where are the download files ? I couldn't find any version for my region (Brazil). My actual baseband version is I9300UBELL1. Thanks !

i don't think so... just try to flash another rom like Temasek or Paranoid android... second me you can solve your problem..
you tried to return to a stock? I do not think the problem is baseband, but maybe the CM was installed wrong. even so, you can find zip files or baseband modem, to install recovery via advanced.
Try using the CyanogenMod installer.
Sent from my GT-I9300.
Give a thank if i helped you.

A simple google search would have given you the answer, it's basically responsible for you getting a signal from your carrier and other stuff, wouldn't explain much because I'm not an expert in that field, but changing them is simple, usually you don't need to, because latest modems come with latest stock ROMs for your phone and country.
The Modem is a .bin file that exists inside the stock ROM (.md5 file), you can easily extract and flash it using BL slot in Odin.
