Hey xda,
A few days ago I saw a thread go by about efs. I need to fix a galaxy s3 and the only thing I can use right now is my own phone and the search funxtion is buggy..
Can anyone elaborate on efs v2 and what it is? I believe the phone was running 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 before and I need to restore a nandroid. Will this cause problems?
Also it is running a custom kernel. Will stock kernel be installed once I restore the nandroid? Any information regarding efs v2 is very welcome.

No need to make a new thread. All details you need to know are mentioned in various efs threads. Like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393289
I dont know about restoring nandroid but in my experience flashing a 4.1.2 rom on a 4.3 rom caused me ALOT of trouble. Might be due to a change in modem in the process, even flashing an older 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 nandroid did NOT fix my problem. So i dont recommend you do that.
So if I understand right than I can only safely flash 4.3 and up? Thanks for the link!

Hi sorry in advance if this kind of question comes up alot but imk looking to install a new rom onto my s3 how easy is it to do it? i already have a rom installed (darkys) is it a simple matter of finding a tutorial and just over wiping the curent rom with the new one? or do i have to go back to facotry settings and start from fresh?
Generally follow instructions on your chosen Rom thread

Most are just wipe cache and flash over existing rom .
But easy peasy problem solver is to have a current Nandroid backup to restore if needed .

hi, i have a noob question, i dont know so much about repartitioning and other things, my question is, when upgrading a rom it does at normal procces (wipe data and install zip) . im taljking about for example ,i'm now in shostock 3 , it is android 4.1 and if i would back to cm9 , could i do that?. i have a nandroid backup of cm9, can i just restore this backup and i wont have problems without matter the rom i'm coming?, sorry for my english and thanks for the understanding.:good:
I'm not familiar with CM9, but the only issue would be if the ClockworkMod Recovery in the SHOstock3 kernel is compatible with the backup made with thebackup made with CM9. I'm thinking it might not be because the Jebo kernel in SHOstock3 backs up a pre-load partition.
Do You think then that is better flash again cm9 instead of the backup?

Hi,
I've got an Galaxy GT-I9300 and recently I flashed some custom roms, with no problems. But at the last time, my IMEI has changed to a generic and I received the 'Emergency Only'. Fortunately I had a backup of my original efs folder, made by KTool. So I restored it using some tutorials from xda and other forums and my original IMEI is back.
But it's frequently losing signal, then the signal returns with 'emergency', then gets normal, then lose signal again and etc.
My question is, can I restore an efs.img or *.tar.gz made by KTool using the EFS Pro? So I could wipe the efs folder and restore the backup, clean...
I'm now with WanamLite XXUFME7.
Sorry for my bad english :/
Thank you all!

ASK in the EFS Pro thread .
Basics read first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344125
Critical you read the first two posts .
I was using the UBEMH2, Omega Rom 4.1.2. When I flashed the Wanam XXUFME7 (4.2.2) it broken IMEI and got 0049..
Now it seems good, I haven't noticed no one or very few conection losses.
One more question, my counter is 1 and I have a custom recovery + custom rom. When I used Triangle Away to reset counter, even with stock recovery, the counter didn't get 0.
What do I need to do?

AFAIK this will happen unless you are running both a stock kernel AND recovery.
And how do I know if I'm with a stock kernel? Or by using a custom rom, the kernel is automaticaly custom too?

I had the same problem a few days ago when i was flashing cm10. Just restore back to stock firmware, root it and back up efs folder. then try to flash any rom and just restore the efs back up you did with stock firmware. it should be fine. if it is not working still, try to flash mg4 modem.
Thanks for your explanation!
Since yesterday it seems be fine, no more connection losses or 'emergency calls'. Maybe it was caused by a problem with my carrier. I'll keep it this way and if the issue appear again, I do what you said.
Can somebody help me with my last question, please?

Custom rom may or may not have a custom kernel . You have top read the custom roms description .
settings about phone will give kernel details

The IMEI is your device's fingerprint number, flashing roms don't change it, unless the rom file is corrupted or some error happens during the flash, what is kind of rare.
You should be able to flash without problems, but don't forget to flash the correct rom version for your device, and to flash GAPPS after flashing the rom.
Hey
In addition I would strongly recommend to back up ur efs..

that's actually downgrading rather than upgrading. 4.1.2 builds are newer and use a new EFS format but the 4.2.2 builds are older and use older EFS format! so back up your EFS every time before you flash something as already mentioned above. if you face any problems refer to the link under my signature and post there for any queries.
