Maclaw Kitkat 4.4.2 for Xperia U; should I update? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello... Currently I have an old old CM9 based rom installed, and I'm thinking of an upgrade. I've been reading development forums regulary and Kitkat roms seem pretty fast... Are all the basic things working on the latest Maclaw Kitkat 4.4.2 ROM? WiFi, and camera (for pictures, don't need video recording). And do I install the version on Maclaw site or can I get a newer better version, and where do I get it

@bir00
the holy grail in kitkat is the OMX (without that you can not use youtube), new maclaw fix it but don't share his sources to other developers, they have failed to advance.
according I read the latest version of maclaw have bugs with OMX, the bluetooth don't work properly, the wifi works well and the camera can only take pictures.
I used carbonRom version, is amazing, has OMX problems, but with a patch of gigitux you can see youtube in CM 11 or CarbonRom,is the best ROM I've used of kitkat.
the decision is yours.

I don't have this problem in carbonRom, in CM 11 I don't know (Xu)

So, the question should be Maclaw CM11 or CarbonRom? I will wait for more replies, it would be nice to see which ROM is the best for speed/stability. I'm assuming Kitkat is the way to go for Xperia U, cause of good memory management. And in my experience low RAM is the only hardware issue with my little phone

@Kobalto07 I use CarbonRom but when I reboot my phone apps that are installed on sdcard disappear.
I think that CarbonRom has better RAM management but maybe this is because i do clean install. For me CarbonRom has same bugs as latest CM11 build from Maclaw.

the truth is that nobody can say about specifically because that happens and not others, in the official thread carbonRom have not seen anyone complain about it so far.
I can only tell you what I did
I did a full wipe, install the ROM with a user Goldrake1 Gapps that he shared in the CM 11 thread some time ago and finally put it in ART mode.
as hize not see anything special.
IAmNice said:
Carbon rom should actually use just as much ram as cm. If not more. Since carbon has a lot of features that run in the background and might use more ram. Shouldn't be such a big issue and I don't expect it to use much more ram.

all I can say is that for me, the performance of RAM is fine:good:, actually I have the same performance in CM Ram 11 Mokee OpenSouce , but CarbonROM It has been the best result(for me ) for example, I've these results RAM in CarbonRom.
Edit.
@bir00 generally you will not find huge differences between CM 11 and CarbonROM. it is safer than the end you will select which considers more complete.

I'm currently using hellkat's version of kitkat and it works better for me than the others, is fast, stable and the only bug that i've seen until now is that the speaker sound is kind of low, but still it's a very good rom

I finally installed Slimkat kitkat ROM. I've had a lot of problems running it. My phone seemed bricked but the reason was that nightly build had s*rewed up kernel. I finally got it to work and I like it
One question though, do widgets from ICS function on KitKat? I just can't install recent calls widget. Or any other widget for that matter. Is it a common KitKat problem?

[Q] Best KitKat Rom for Xperia U

Ok hello everyone.
Firstly, If I have posted this in the wrong place, I apologise....I didn't come here to piss off anyone. There are so many posts I got confused.
So I've been using [SXU]Infinity Rom v3 by acervenky. Its the best ICS Rom in my personal opinion, the most stable I found so far (I use it with Greenify). Oh and I have unlocked bootloader.
Now I dont test roms or develop stuff and when it comes to tech stuff consider me a newbie....just regular guy wanting to use KitKat on his Xperia U for daily use, which eats less ram, is stable enough, and I really love themes and stuff but performance is priority.
So which of these would you guys recommend that I can flash for daily use:
1. XNovathor Project 4.4.2 V2 (because who doesn't like a lot of ram...)
2. CarbonRom KK RC1 [ARM-EABI] (because it looks supercool like batman)
3. Unofficial SlimKat (kumquat) [RC2] [BUILD 3 - 1MAR] (because as they say its really slim? and looks good too)
4. AOSB Project v1 (because it has tons of features)
As you can see I like all of these, but I'm not sure cause I don't really have that expertise to judge it well.
So what do you guys say?
Which one should I use?
I prefer cm 11
But according to Ur 4 roms i prefer carbon or slim ROM
Slim ROM for smoothness
And Carbon for performance and stuffs
U can use my Resurrection Rom too But wait for next update

Thanks a ton man, I think I'll try Carbon first....if I don't like it, I'll go for slim ROM. And yes, I'd definitely like to try your ROM too...:good:

Ques regarding SlimKat Rom
Has anyone here flashed slimkat rom.?? I am having some issue.
I have been use AOSB rom version 1
I think mild and tolerable with no lag. but I got a problem when trying to type. Virtual keyboard appears rather old.
I've used the CM11 for ~3 months now, and IMO it's the best one
Inviato dal mio Xperia U utilizzando Tapatalk
Of those I prefer Slim... but 4.2+ has Bluetooth audio problems so I avoid them (and no non-Sony ROM I've seen has a working half-press camera button...)

[Q] Rooted phone. Any custom roms for this phone to flash?

So i successfully rooted my phone using odin and cwm recovery. i am on stock rom 4.1.2.
Can anyone please refer to a rom anyone used on this phone and it worked without many bugs.
i searched for cm11 but it still has many bugs on this phone so i ignored it. Please refer to me roms that have a newer version on android only. I dont want customised stock roms. just omniroms or maybe cm10.2. Thanks everyone!

Interesting. Nice find, I didn't know this one. I will test to see if it's really KitKat :good:
Edit: it is a beautiful ROM, but it isn't KitKat. It's the same Android JB we all have in our devices. I'm considering to keep it installed.

well its nice, much lighter than the original stock rom. Plus its better and much sleeker than the touchwiz. Although its not a major upgrade like cyanogenmod. But yeah, worth more than the stock rom. One of the cleanest rom for grand quattro :good:

Yes, I tested. Let me write a little review.
I would say Bionic Monkey (the name of the rom) is a stock-based rom, with some interesting mods. By default the rom changes the DPI, so more things fit on screen. Some apps are KitKat-themed, like contacts or dialer. The stock launcher was replaced by Google Experience Launcher. It's also pre-rooted and has support to multiwindow. I didn't test multiwindow, but I think it's nice on that rom because of DPI.
The major disadvantage is that the rom is not KitKat, despite the system info. You can test it by installing any app only for KitKat - it will refuse to install.
So, in general, it's a good rom for daily use, so you might give it a try.

There's no KK for us, at least for now. All the roms that claim to be any Android higher than 4.1.2 are actually themed roms with mods on build.prop, but in fact they are Android 4.1.2.
The exception is CM (the one in link provided by you), that is KK in fact. But is still unstable and not suited for daily use.

Ok. Now very few Custom ROMs support are available. You have CM12.1 bt it has some bugs.
Personally, I would recommend you not to unlock your bootloader and not to flash any Custom ROM since there are many bugs now in them.
After few days when your warranty became finished, flash any ROM you want. Till then there will be some stable lollipop ROM available

Hi Adarsh
Yes, I would recommend to unlock BootLoader, and root (If you like to use root specific apps). In short, you get more admin privileges after rooting which you can't in stock. There are noob tutorials in General section, check them out.
And about custom Rom, presently the best is CM 12 which is completely stable with no FC's. Been using it for a month and no complains. And also few days ago CM 12.1 (Unofficial) rolled out. Just wait for a few weeks until it becomes stable.
Hope it helps,
Albert

Yes CM12 cant record videos but devs are working hard to fix this issue but all major isaue like Battery drain, havy ram usage, Fcs all have fixed within a week. So this bug will fixed soon. And some gallery bug there like duplicate thumbnails at gallery but dev has given flashable fix patch, so its upto you, if u want fully buggless rom then you have to wait for CM12 M1 snapshot release as now its in nightly stage ot will contain the bugs...

I installed CM 12, GAPPS Pico, and basic social media apps. Still I have 1.55 GB internal memory left!!
Earlier while I was using soak test, I had only ~650-700 MB internal storage. [Had all stock apps updated]
And about 540 MB free RAM while system idle.

Gretings, I have CM 12.1 30-03 build and I recommend it, yes, it has some bugs like random FCs when you open contacts, but almost daily a new build is up, so its matter of one or two days for a bug to be fixed, but, it has a large list of options to modify/personalisation of your Moto E, and if you do this, use Alpha Kernel, it increases the performance and solve some bugs, like video recording, so, in conclusion, I recommend that you unlock your bootlader, root your device, flash a new recovery and flash a ROM & Kernel, CM 12.1 its now usable for daily use.

If I have to post any further info of my info tell me! Sorry for my english and thanks for your time!

If you want a Jellybean based Custom Rom, you could try Cyanogenmod 10.2 by neutrondev, its the most stable rom of all at the moment.
If you want a KitKat based Custom Rom, you could try Cyanogemod 11 or Mokee OS, but these are rather laggy due to missing gpu drivers and at the newest version of Cyanogenmod 11 the LED doesn't work.
As I said, Cyanogenmod 10.2 is the most stable so you should try this one first.

Most Stable and Bug Free Marshmallow ROM For Moto E (Condor)

Hi! I have been looking at some Marshmallow ROM threads but all of them have one thing in common: Issues of Camera in landscape mode and SD Card adopted as internal issue. Also, I know that CM13 is no longer being developed for condor as Ashwin has left the development and CM device tree issues as said above are still there. Is there any Android 6.0.1 ROM out there that is stable and mostly free of bugs like Landscape camera and SD as internal?
The issue of adopt sd as internal are broke by the cyanogenmod sources, not by the device tree
But the roms most stable are bliss pop
Aospb, cyanogenmod 13, vr toxin and others more
And the bug of the camera on landscape is already fixed, the latest builds of the moto e they have fixed these
Sorry for my english
If this is helpfull, press the tanks button

Oh! I didnt know that. Thanks. Ill first try some ROM bases on AOSP like: AOSPB and AOSP-CAF and then try ROMS based on CM 13 sources like BlissPop, crDroid, Temasek etc
All CM Based ROM should have broken auto-rotation if i'm correct.
AOSP-CAF has no bugs atm

CM13 is pretty stable IMHO
There are fix for lanscape camera bugs and adopted sdcard bugs here in general thread, and it's pretty easy to implement
I'm looking for a MM ROM with 100% working adaptable SD card, with no "fix" requirement... I guess (from reading) that either AOSP-CAF or AOKP are fine?

Aosp-caf is fine. Haven't tried AOKP.
I'd go with AOSP-CAF
Going to try this ROM soon, I cant test other ROMS as I use this device as daily driver but as the others have said that AOSP-CAF is fine, I'm soon gonna install it and give my reviews about it and report to the dev if I find any bugs. Thanks to shankky for keeping our humble condor alive.
I'm having problems with bliss pop - worse battery, randomly locks in apps like youtube and mx player, lockscreen wallpaper is broken etc.
I'll try aospcaf
Yes! AOSP-CAF is the best!
SD as internal works like a charm, also there is volume wale features for phones with broken power buttons or restart issue when pressing the power button. Also, Camera WORKS in landscape mode. So this is the best MM ROM out there. Thanks to Shankky for giving us such a great ROM.

I agree
The only downside is the update/development kinda slow, a bit left behind than CM13 (ex: security patch is still 1 Feb 2016 in AOSP-CAF), and still no OTA (or alternative like CM Downloader/CyanDelta)
But other than that, it is working smoothly stable :good:

Just make sure you follow these instructions:

I think temasek by @Trishi is good than others ...ya of course all cm based ROMs have same bugs but this one is smooth
For customized ROM go for Temasek or Bliss, for pure AOSP experience and best battery life go for AOSP-CAF.

If you use mobile data, do not use temasek until the bug is fixed. Data ain't working in temasek.

Hi! I have been looking at some Marshmallow ROM threads but all of them have one thing in common: Issues of Camera in landscape mode and SD Card adopted as internal issue.
