[Q] Help with tethering - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been attempting to access my tethering functionality on my rooted S3 (SGH-I747) for a few days now without success. I tried this process because it sounded promising but unfortunately I am unable to access settings.db using the SQLite Editor app.
When I click on the file the following error appears: An error occurred while opening the database. unable to open database file (code 14):, while compiling: SELECT * FROM sqlite_master WHERE type in('table','view') ORDER BY name.
I was thinking I might not be properly rooted but I verified my root status with the root checking apps. They confirm I'm rooted.
I'm running the stock Samsung ROM.
My APN settings are (I use Straight Talk as a provider):
NAME STRAIGHT_TALK
APN tfdata
MMSC http://mms-tf.net
MMS PROXY mms3.tracfone.com
MMS PORT 80
MMS_APN tfdata
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication type Not set
APN type Not set
APN protocol IPv4
APN roaming protocol IPv4
Turn APN on/off APN turned on
Bearer unspecified
Mobile virtual network operator none
I've tried other apps such as WiFi Tether for root users and WiFi Tether Router with no luck.
This is the thread I was following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544487
Does anyone have any idea of why I can't access settings.db?

Default AT&T / Cingular Settings - WM6

Sorry if posted before, I was not able to find it; but here are settings I found to work well from the stock ROM.
I recently installed Pampooh's ROSE ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483950
When I used the Network Setup Wizard for AT&T the settings would not work for me to access the internet or use MMS messages.
So I took the latest stock ROM - Cingular 3100/3125 v4.1.502.5 - WM5 AKU v3.4.2 from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/53993022...0_cws_ship.rar
Re-installed it and noted the settings that DID Work and loaded them on Pampooh's ROM above. The result - it works! verified on both my SIM and my wife's SIM card (wife doesn't have a data plan - but has MMS messaging
Pampooh's ROM by default does not setup any network settings, so here are the settings needed to be added:
Settings->Connections->GPRS
Create new:
MEdia Net GPRS
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: wap.cingular
Username: [email protected] (CASE SENSITIVE)
Password: CINGULAR1 (CASE SENSITIVE)
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
IP Address: (leave blank)
Settings->Connections->Proxy
Create new:
Cingular WAP
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP Network
Proxy (name: port) wireless.cingular.com:80
Type: HTTP
Username: (leave blank)
Password: (leave blank)
{Pampooh's ROM had this already - but posted for information}
Now go to Messaging highlight MMS, select menu->settings->Menu->MMSC Settings
Name: Cingular MMS
MMSC URL: http://mmsc.cingular.com
WAP gateway: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Connect Via: The Internet
Max sending size: 300K
All other defaults remain.
Enjoy,
~J
Thank you SO much for this post! I can't tell you how many months I've searched for this info...

Concerning DUTCH Vodafone users
When flashing: [ROM][WM 6.5] "Official" v1.00 [XIP/SYS 21854] and you place the sim-card in your phone it will start the connection setup to select you country and operator and it will do some vodafone settings.
These settings DOES NOT work. You CANNOT browse after that using GPRS.
Here are the correct settings which did the job for me, plz correct me if somethings is not correct, i'd verified these settings myselves:

HELP- i think i killed my data connection on a huawei m835...

the rundown...
flashed froyoman for the ideos onto the m835. booted fine but no web. used metroff for froyo, but no dice.
reflashed recovery but web was still gone
manually input apn's but wouldn't save settings. BUT as settings were input, web sig. started working until I tried to save when they erased.
these are the exact settings i need which came off my mom's m835 AND in the data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db/carriers folder
name:MetroPCS
APN: #777
proxy: proxy.metropcs.net
port: 3128
username: yourphonenumber at aaaj dot mymetropcs dot com
password: 699160
mmsc: h t t p : / mms dot metropcs dot net : 3128 slash mmsc
mcc: 311
mnc: 660
type: PAP or CHAP
apn type : *(astrix)
is it possible to push these in through adb and if so how?
I have access to another m835 that's not rooted, but i'll root it if i have to in order to gain access to all critical read only files...
oh and my build.prop says
"#begin volatile config
#end volatile config"
then switches between eclair and froyo after the #
that's not good is it? keep in mind that I'm nu to this and I'm going off a general hunch...

[Q] Sprint EVO 3D flashed to Page Plus. Everything works but MMS.

Ok. This is a weird one for me. I bought a EVO 3D off of Ebay with a bad ESN. I didn't care about the ESN since I was going to flash it over to Page Plus anyways. So, I flashed it and got everything running for it...except MMS. Talk, Text, & 3G works fine. I tried creating a default APN settings using giffgaffAPN since I couldn't get to the APN settings by going to Menu-Settings-Mobile Networks (option wasn't there). I put in what I found online as the default settings for the new APN. The APN didn't show up in the list but I didn't see the old APN either so I took it for granted that all was right in the world. I tried downloading a pic I'd received earlier via MMS and still nothing. I was still able to surf on 3G still. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
OS: Android 4.03
Dial ##3282# on your dialer and tap edit mode then enter your msl / spc. Then go to advanced. At the bottom you will have the settings option.
On some roms you can directly change mms setting from the message app>settings
EDIT : I see you edited it yourself.

Thanks for the help! I'm the right place but not all of the options that I need or in the settings. I need to put the following in but username and password or missing. I went ahead and put in all of the info that was available but the MMS still wouldn't work.
Verizon APN settings Android:
Name : Verizon
APN : Verizon or vzwinternet
Proxy : null
Port : null
Username : Mobile [email protected]
Password: vzw
Server :
MMSC : http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy : null
MMS Port : null
MCC : 310
MNC : 012
Authentication type : Not Set
APN : Not Set
Note: I just found username under data profile but no place to enter in password, MCC, or MNC.

I think I just figured out a step that I needed to put in. There's a field that says MMS Server URL that's just inside of the advanced menu that's a header like MMSC Setting. I put the MMSC URL into that field and I received those MMS messages that were previously just download. I need to try sending MMS messages now but unfortunately, last night, my SD card failed. I lost 16 gigs of pics (about 3k pics) and movies...including pics of the first time I held my son. Fortunately, most of those are on FB.
Thanks again for all of your help. Hopefully, when I get the new SD card in from IceMonkey.com ( Here's the one I'm getting and there's no referral link so I shouldn't get dinged for this ) and get some of the pics redownloaded, I can test out the send function on MMS.
