[Q] i9100 rom - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hi everyone. I'd really like to try or even port (with proper guidance) an i9100 rom to my i777, but I don't know what kind of modifications I should do to the rom itself or even if any of the kernels available to our phone do actually work.
The roms I'm willing to use are either of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607749 - Revolution Rom UX 2014 BUILD 1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573745 - WizzedUX
Yeah, I really want to experience newer samsung interface in my phone, maybe use them as a daily driver.
Appreciate any help, thanks!

There is a thread about this already on the first page mate.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609840.

The easiest way is to download AJK 4.9 mic swap and an i777 modem.
Download the rom you want and install it in recovery like this:
1. Full wipes, including /system
2. ROM
3. AJK 4.9 Mic Swap
- reboot recovery and follow the install instructions to the letter, from AJ's OP
4. Install modem
-reboot system-
That's it, Samsung roms are extremely easy to port. Flashing AJK will also correct your button layout.

That is true, but the roms he wants isn't installed in quite the same way as the one you wanted. On his there's no updater script to edit - it's pretty much wipe-flash-flash-flash.

Thanks a lot for your help! Will try to use that procedure. I wasn't sure about the button layout or even bootloader (which I just read it isn't usually included in i9100 roms, so I'm fine), thanks for clarifying that. But first I have to solve a usb connection problem I have, in case I break anything and I have to use Odin. Defective dock connector replacement, ugh.
Thanks again!

Don't make assumptions. Before you flash an I9100 rom, open the zip file and look for boot.bin and sbl.bin and possibly param.lfs. If any of those are present, then remove them if you know how, or use another firmware that does not have those.

Sure, I always double check almost everything, kind of OCD. I read that you just said on the post too. Thanks for the warning, and for worrying.

Would you use this method for porting something like SlimKat for i9100 over to i777?

The method would be similar, but you'd have to be on a KK recovery before attempting. And the AJK kernel is not compatible with KK; you need to use RenderBroken's KK kernels for the specific rom you want. For Slim you have to use his Slim kernel (TWRP-based is recommended), a CM rom would need his CM kernel, etc.

I noticed that about AJK after posting. I am on OmniRom and using Render's Kernel already. Thanks for the heads up. I may take a run at it this afternoon.
BTW what's up with the download for the Render kernel? All I can find are old builds. I am using the 2/04 TWRP for Omni and I can't even find it on the download page again.

[ROM] Pure Android 5.0 Lollipop - Built From Source [android-5.0.0_r2]

I built AOSP 5.0 Release 2 (a.k.a. Lollipop) for Nexus 5. This is PURE AOSP Lollipop. Enjoy. Also always remember I'm not responsible for anything. ROM is tested. Kernel is stock prebuilt AOSP kernel.
Download:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001606871
Installation:
1) Wipe all the partitions except Internal Storage.
2) Flash ROM.
3) Flash Gapps (You can find gapps packages for Lollipop/L-preview at XDA.)
4) Enjoy
Source:
ROM: https://android.googlesource.com
Vendor Tree: https://github.com/yashade2001/nexus-lollipop-preview-vendor.git
Kernel (Prebuilt): https://android.googlesource.com/device/lge/hammerhead-kernel/+/lollipop-release
Device Tree: https://android.googlesource.com/device/lge/hammerhead/+/lollipop-release
For manifest, I used "android-5.0.0_r2" branch.
Thanks! Been playing around with the first preview. I think it's time to move on to something more recent.
Since this is source build, do we need to flash Gapps separately? If yes, any link for material gapps?
EDIT: Sorry, some info in OP.
Thanks yashade
good work mate, downloading it now

Are they still sticking with the 3.4 kernel for the Nexus 5, despite the Nexus 6 and 9 both having the much more recent 3.10 kernel?
@Rolle90, @neobuddy89, That gapps force closes on psychos build. He is redoing some stuff now. He got his from next door in illusion thread. Might want to look around first
Does tethering work in this latest build?
thanks, but this is not an original rom, and does not go into the n5 original development threads. it goes to the android development section, since you did not make up android 5.0.

Unfortunately, YES.
Old PM structure. Old mem structure. No CPU boost. No much cream layer of audio. Just imp fixes and minor features on top of kk 3.4 kernel.

The eMMC on my phone has according to eMMC check is:
Type: VYL00M
FwRev: 0x19
If I look at EMMC Bugs that means, that my phone is prone to the "#Samsung eMMC secure erase bug" but not to the "#MAG2GA TRIM bug".
I'm quite a noob, so I don'tknow, if I can use the TRIM kernel or if I better stay at the save side of the NON-TRIM version.
Can someone please tell me if the TRIM kernel is save for my phone?
Best regards

It is all your own risk flash ROM, MOD, Kernel....
Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=61971146
I use TRIM every week or after ROM flash.
Thanks for your response. Because you got the same eMMC chip and the same FW version it has made me confident to give it a shot.
I've downloadet and installed "Kernel_Dorimanx-V11.0b005-[15-23]-[18-07]-LP-SGII-UBER-TRIM-signed.zip" via the CM recovery.
After rebooting to the recovery I whiped cache and davlink cach and did a factory reset.
Now I tried to reboot the system. Unfortunately i got stuck at a Dorimanx splash screen. 10 mins later I removed the battery, rebooted into the recovery and flashed the actual cm 12.1 nightly again (just to make shure that I did not brik my phone) which fortunately worked.
Can someone give me a hint what I did wrong?
Does it supports Synapse App? Thanks[emoji1]

you need to reflash the rom again and then reflash dori again

Nope. Synapse is limited in terms of the amount of settings you can change. Stweaks was designed for dorimanx kernel.

I like to thank you, that did the trick.
Whipping the dalvik somehow damaged my gapps, so I needed to reinstall them.
I figured, that installing a new nightly via the CM updater damages the dalvik again (maybe the CM kernel somehow interferes with it). If you install it via the recovery and apply the dori immediately after that (without system reboot) the dalvik stays intact.

Unofficial CM13.0 910F/G

This is an old post, please, refer to this one for new updates, this is here only for historical purposes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/unofficial-cm13-0-910f-g-t3280529

Quite a few people asked for test driving CM13.0/marshmellow. However since a lot of stuff was broken, we felt it didnt make much sense to put a flashable ROM out there. But a lot of progress has been made and the basic functionality (more or less) seems to work now, so I thought let's open a thread where people can dump their unofficial Cm13.0 versions for others to try.
If you want a stable version, use the official Cm12.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/official-cm12-910f-910g-t3046965
This thread will be active untill we feel it's stable enough to make it official.

Notes:
1) Make sure you are on COI3 bootloader and modem
Installation instructions:
1) You'll probably want to backup your exisiting installation with TWRP
2) Do a full factory reset
3) Flash this ROM:https://mega.nz/#!LcYkjDgA!e_wG4Cn0hoLeZOy6hHsSUeuOfKuPcxsY-QXnngP7F7o
4) Flash these blobs https://mega.nz/#!CFxUBDxb!QET17v0B-1ana-VQ_EnGzH7RnUZ-vyCHGaGVdV6Ih6M
5) Flash these gapps: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347844834
If other people upload a ROM, you most likely do NOT have to flash blobs. I just have it seperately but in my next ROM it will probably be included too. So if somebody posts a ROM, all you need is that ROM and gapps.
If you want to build it yourself, @fattire wrote this wonderful tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-910f-910g-t3046965/post63488099#post63488099
Other notes:
* You guys might want to try the Marshmellow multi window mode ! Enable it in the developer options. Once enabled, go to the recent apps and press the symbol next to the X for windows you want.
* You'll probably want to enable MTP over USB by default, also in developer options
* Enable root also, again, via developer options.
Known bugs/problems
* Finger print scanner is not up yet (we'll give it a shot soon)
* I've seen some battery drains, not sure if they still persist, I expect they do.
* NFC not working
* Probably a lot more
KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS STILL HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL AND NOT MEANT TO BE A DAILY DRIVER FOR THE AVERAGE USER AT THIS POINT
*reserved*
I can't wait to test it, thank you both
Thanks gekke. Just not blobs to DL but Gapps .
BTW, while installing myself, I got a FC error regarding the play services. After a reboot it worked fine though. Keep in mind that this still is far from stable But I'm using it as a daily driver myself already

I think I will do the same. I have been following your posts and trust your opinion. It is weekend so I should be able to get it set up for the workweek ahead. Needs to be good as my daily driver. I am a perfectionist! Are you using the build in root and kernel?

I personally changed to supersu and elite kernel, but heard great things about flash kernel so I might switch, I highly recommend the rom

Friend Ready to Get Nitrogen For Your Angler..
ROM and other Mods Links are in 1st page,
But before flashing you've to need Bootloader,Radio and Vendor images..
I suggest you please Flash all images with Fastboot commands...
Make a full Backup of your Whole Angler including Nandroid backup just in case...
And then start flashing. I highly suggest you Don't restore your EFS partition until you need them.
For Android N you've to need for TWRP 3.0.2.2 or Unofficial TWRP 3.0.2.3..
Here is link for Vendor, Bootloader and Radio images....

My two cents is to try the inbuilt root and kernel first, if you don't like it, then flash away.
But I believe you need he latest supersu ran as systemless mode for ad away to work, which you need the ad away system less zip. I can host the zip if you need it.

Actually I love RR but I can't prevent myself to flash N ROMs,After trying a lot I stay with Nitrogen, Because I found Nitrogen has a lot of similarities with RR in terms of Customization, And yes I'll definitely Revert back to RR when @varund7726 announced official build that is coming soon, Because official CM 14 experimental build for OP3 has out and we'll get for Angler soon.
So I think Its good to wait for them who only want RR for Angler..[emoji4]

And I agree with you, resurrection remix is amazing and once varun releases nougat, I'm gonna be stuck with it haha
And yes, nitrogen is a really amazing ROM. I stayed on that ROM for the longest before coming back to RR

Take that profile you have (hawk tail) and rename it and delete the .txt part. Then drag that file into the elemental x file on your internal SD card (this is where all profiles go)
Open up elemental x manager, hit CPU, turn on the blue toggles for interactive on the first two options, then hit governor options (I believe its the third option down) once the page opens, hit load at the top right, then scroll down and select hawk tail, then hit apply at boot. Then make sure you find touch boost, it may say disabled or enabled already, you can touch the word touch boost and you'll see it change from enabled to disabled or vise versa, then hit the button power button to the right to activate the disabling.
That should do it. You'll see your CPU sitting lower way more often, saving battery.
If my instructions were unclear, I can upload a step by step with pics here if you need

Just realized that I got so wrapped up in telling you how to set the profile that I didn't answer how the profile is.
Its amazing, no lag, phone never gets hot, battery is at 5 hours screen on time on the lower end, sometimes I can get 7

Quick question... I know you made this thread to talk about Roms we are running. Are you OK with the off topic conversations? Such as governor profiles, battery life, and such?
I just want to keep this thread as it was intended to be. Lemme know if we should steer the conversation into a different direction.

Fluence UHD Patch

I just wanted to share this on behalf of Muistone with his permission. This is an awesome compliment to ANY V20 ROM. I've used this since 12:30pm and i can tell you it does wonders for your battery and performance. Very snappy and responsive! Immediate results. Have a keyboard zip handy and flash it after Fluence patch, just in case! Please, all questions pertaining to this patch must go to Awesome Muistone's thread. Link to his thread is below!

Choose generic device of you don't see your device.
Give him a thank you!
My setup
TMO V20
Latest AMAZING WETA ROM
-Thank you Mentalmuso
NSS Kernel 6.5 (Zero issues for me)
-Thank you Tilde88
Fluence UHD Patch
-Thank you Muistone (So awesome!)
*I hope I posted this properly. Never done this before. I just felt like this needed to be shared. Fingers crossed! Hitting sending now!
I can't believe it wasn't in our forums cause it absolutely supports it.
Fyi for anyone that tries. Flash a keyboard afterwards and do a factory reset. Then flash a superuser or magisk. You see the great result
Wonder if it works with lineage.....

It's in the 3rd post. Google Drive content or something along those lines.
Then it's under the folder 'patch'.

Got it! Thanks
So best way to flash?
Full wipe, like the "swipe" wipe before we flash a ROM
Flash ROM
Flash kernel
Flash this mod
Also, I use Gboard, so I should be okay with the wiping keyboard issue, right?
What if I don't wipe?
Do I need to flash this Everytime I flash a ROM dirty?

I haven't had any problems with viper. Try the older Fluence patch. The 2.28 one. I flash the newer ones I've had a little problem here and there but not much. 2.28 seems to work well with me. But we should really be all asking questions or stating problems in the original thread by Muistone. This way he can help us.

Thanks. I did post on his thread as well. Where do I find this older version?
Also, when I did flash in Aroma, I didn't know what a lot of the options were.
When I try a different version, I have to clean flash my rom everytime? Are you using Mentalmuso's version of Viper?

I'm using ARISE 2.94. And you don't have to clean flash your rom all the time. Ask Muistone if he can provide earlier versions for you.
How did you just reflash the patch to select non tablet mode? Did you dirty flash the patch?

Mine works fine. Even Bluetooth in the car, I don't have to hit the blue reset app no more. Strange but true. Even with arise or the WETA mod, I've always had to use that app before. The Fluence already wipes if you choose it. But i like to factory reset again to be safe.
Where is this factory reset I in twrp... Couldn't find it.

It's the default wipe when you touch the wipe button.
Right when you mentioned about Viper. I was testing it out. So I kept on hitting next next next next next and my ARISE did the same thing. So I'm going to request Muistone to make the audio quality "optional". I think it makes some adjustments to our build prop.
I dirty flashed my rom (WETA 4.8.5) then flashed the patch (I chose the custom build prop and the dirty flash option w/in the patch) and it's not doing it on viper any more.
anyone have a good keyboard flashable zip?
So, to be 100% clear. The first time we flash this patch we must clean flash. Then updating a ROM dirty style we just flash the patch after the ROM flash correct? No need for wiping again, but we just flash the patch Everytime we update our ROMs??!??
I just want to be sure, thank you!
