I noticed several weeks back that my tab was not listed as a device in the the market when I visited the web-market. I could see my phone, but not my tab. It had been there. What happened to it? I began to think I broke *that* functionality of it somehow. I mean, I screw with my tab constantly.
I conveniently noticed there was an update for VeganGinger (7.10) so I went for it. Nope. No market device listing. (the 7.10 update broke it, I thot) Okay. Let's try Flashback. Nope. And, it's a *known issue.* Damn.
This morning, I emailed Google: For the last few weeks, I have been unable to "see" my device on the market. My phone is listed as my device, but my tablet has vanished from the list. I am still able to download apps from the tablet. It's just that my viewsonic g-tablet does not appear in the list of my devices. It's inconvenient when I want to install a market app to my tablet from the "web" android market.
A very nice person replied: Hi there, Thanks for contacting us today. According to our records, the device that you are using is not supported for use with Android Market at this time.
The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.
For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit: http://source.android.com/compatibility/index.html
If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly. I’ve provided a link below for your convenience: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/
I was unsatisfied, and a bit annoyed, so I replied and asked: As I mentioned, my device *had previously* shown up in the market.
Does the removal of my device mean that google has changed their device compatibility specs? Or that they are enforcing those specifications more stringently?
Additionally, is there anything I can do to allow my device to show up again? Or am I caught between google and a manufacturer that has stopped supporting their device?
Their answer: Your device wasn't ever a supported device unfortunately.
It does sometimes take a while for Market to recognize that the device is unsupported but once it does it isn't reversible. Viewsonic should have suggestions for alternative app sources. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
WHAT? Not reversible? Oh dear.
One more question: Will the limited Market functionality I currently have on my viewsonic device continue, or will it "go away" in the future?
The google answer: At this time, I can't say for sure whether you'll retain the access you currently have or not. I'm not aware of any planned updates to Market that would affect this but that doesn't mean they aren't in the works behind the scenes.
So, my fellow Viewsonic aficionados, there is the answer to the "howcum I don't see my g-tab anymore...?" queries. I just thought you'd all want to know.
Dan
BTW, If this info helped you, don't hesitate to hit the "thanks" button, k?

Yep. Your choices are to use Amazon (which works fine) and keep using the Market app (updated one, if needed, for HC roms) to download updates & freebies from the Market directly on the device.
And continue to scratch your head at the mess that is Android.
I'm glad i sold my Gtablet and got the HTC Flyer when Best Buy had them on sale.

And now, we return you to the thread.
So, is anyone aware of a way to clear/change identifying info from the g-tab to restore this ability, or do we collectively think it's a lost cause?

Not having it show up in the web store is not a big issue for me. Just download from the market on the tablet?

I am betting that it has something that needs to be changed in the build.prop in /system
If we can figure out which part needs to be changed to transmit a different ID to the market, then I imagine we as GTablet users should be golden. I can still buy and install on the device, just not from Web Market. Oh well....I still have 2.3.7 and very few other users do...yay Cyanogenmod!
Same problem with 10s
I have the same problem with a Viewsonic 10s. Mine has a stock rom and installing the market apk didn't work. Will flashing a new ROM fix things? Or having Root access allow installing apps from the SD?
I still have a few says to return the tablet so if things don't resolve themselves soon, back it goes.

No. I have flashed three times since this discovery, to no avail.
You can *still* browse and install the apps from Android Market to your device.
*The only functionality this affects is the ability to install an app to your tab when you're browsing the Market from your PC.*
Dan
Doesn't the 'market fix' that changes the device ID to allow more apps to show up, already accomplish this?

I was using 'olympus' as the device= in my G Tab build.prop but recently found I could not install the Eye-Fi app... so I changed the device= to 'sholes' (same as my original Moto Droid which downloaded the app just fine)... bust still no love on the G Tab.
what device= are you folks using in build.prop on your G Tab?

I'm running the Beasty rom, made no special changes and it just started working again yesterday. In fact, it shows the last 3 roms that I have installed!
This MOD by APP is different than the existing MOD by replacing system apks:
1. No risk of brick
2. Ease of use
3. Universal hack for phones and ROMs that has Webtop
Since this app is intended to support multiple devices, see the original post from the Razr thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404625 .
Please report the test result in this thread. Whether success or fail and your device, ROM, etc.
It'd be nice to use the "Send" option in the app if it failed.
Thanks!

it worked for me too!
It works, but the screen doesn't properly emulate a track pad. Connecting a bluetooth keyboard works fine though.

Is anyone else having this problem? I actually have this issue on occasion with the current webtop over HDMI hack that replaces the stock files. But, it doesn't happen all the time, only some of the time.
Also, if anyone can answer this for me, I haven't bought a lapdock yet, but I am considering it, if I do, I think the other webtop over HDMI hack will have to be removed to make the lapdock work, is that true? Second, if that is true, then this method shouldn't have the same problem right?
Please try with the latest version(v0.5). More diagnostic messages are logged and can be sent using the "Send Info" menu item from the app.

For the first question, I have no idea since I have never tried the "webtop over HDMI hack that replaces the stock files".
For your last question, if the Webtop related things are restored to the stock, this method will still work thus it should have no interference with the Lapdock.

I cant make the track pad work at all. What stock apk files have to be installed for this to work? I am stock rooted with some bloat removed. I am thinking I might have removed one apk file to many...
Could you use the "Send Info" option in the app after you tapped the "Load' button?

All give it a go. I tried rebooting my phone, but still no luck. I sent the debug info via email. This is pretty cool. I've never bothered using webtop, but it looks pretty interesting.
EDIT: I already got an email back from the developer. He said that it all looks good, but the extdock state cant be set to 4, which is what mine loads to when I press load. I see what he says.
Yep, it seems that even everything for Razr looks good for Photon 4G, the track pad on the phone could only react to orientation but couldn't receive any touch action.
I will try to first locate this track pad from Razr, and how are the events being sent then inspect if this is working correctly for Photon 4G.
So this may not work at all.
If anyone got any real dock that made the Photon 4G to have the track pad working correctly, please kindly run logcat to log how all these happen and send to me for analysis. This may boost up the progress by differential analysis.

I don't have a dock, so i cant be of much help there. Hopefully someone can run the logcat for you. If you need me to test anything else, I will gladly do it.
Now it seems to me that logcat is not enough.
I've figured out that evbridge is the process that draw the virtual pad on the phone and responsible for translating and forwarding touch events to mouse movement and key inputs to the Webtop world.
It seems to be using /dev/webtop/input/event4 as a placeholder for the touch event. But when evbridge is not running, those event devices won't work.
So in the worst case your phone have the evbridge running, some event4 receiving touch events but just that are not being processed and forwarded to the Webtop world.
In this case I will need to look deeper inside evbridge for how it actually emit the events or how the Webtop world see and process them then find out which part is broken.

More of the "track pad" stuffs have been studied(https://sites.google.com/site/androidnothize/nebtop/webtop). What remain are testers like "my2cents".
In short, we used TeamViewer(on PC) + PuTTY(on PC) + SSHDroid(on phone) + WiFi(connect PC and phone) + time.
In the last test I haven't studied enough of the track pad so couldn't make real use of it. But now I've studied more of it and have sorted out 3 possible points of breaking the chain of events from the touch screen to the Webtop. Unfortunately "my2cents" seems to be on a vacation.
If you know what are these and could prepare these, we could arrange a time that both of us could go online at the same time to perform the investigation.
Send me a PM or email me at either this nick name or another at gmail.

Hi 400757,
I was on vacation for new years. I got your email, but it was at 5 AM my time and we left that morning to go see family. I am back at home now and I am happy to help again. I will be available all day tomorrow and possibly tonight. I have to get the kids in bed first...
Follow up of the freshly done live investigation on my2cents's Photon 4G.
Turn out that it is quite different than Razr....that lead to more unknowns and needs a working Photon 4G as the basis to compare with.
One must-fail point is that evbridge is expecting /dev/input/by-id/touchscreen which doesn't exist at all. This is the first problem that made the track pad unresponsive.
Secondly the aev and evfwd input devices are not exposed to the X using xinput like in Razr.
After linking this path to the touch device /dev/input/event4, the track pad buttons became responsive though those events are not forwarded to the Webtop cursor.
strace didn't show further open failure afterward.
Thus in order to ease the life, a working Photon 4G Webtop with track pad is needed for inspection.
Does that mean that if someone has a dock, you could debug that way?
I'm not sure....
If someone has the HD dock, and used it to activate the Webtop mode, and if the track pad works.......
Then later using the Nebtop to activate the Webtop mode should work too.
In contra, if a fresh boot using Nebtop doesn't work, (due to the missing device link) but if the HD dock make it work, then it means there're some extra stuff done by recognizing a real HD dock.
Otherwise, if both Nebtop and HD dock failed, perhaps it's regional issue? eg. Some region's Photon 4G has track pad bug since there will be no selling of HD dock?
The last possibility perhaps related to the "bloat" apps that you've removed/disabled? But this is odd that if the app would create the device link under /dev...

hi guys,
i just wanted to ask have anyone tried receiving calls from another phone in your gp5? i was just wondering i have a hp touchpad with webos and when its paired with my old phone it can receive the calls.
I was thinkin maybe if i can do that with my gp5 i can tuck away my old phone and receive calls with my gp5 when paired using bluetooth.
please let me know if anybody have any idea how get this done i know it requires certain service to enable this feature with bluetooth
The 4.0 and 5.0 do NOT support the bluetooth profile (HFP) Needed to be able to answer the calls of a paired bluetooth phone, the 3.6 does and I think the 4.2 might I just can't remember right now.
You could check out the custom ROM's for the 5.0 one of them may have added that functionality, but stock they will not.
4.2 does works like a charm. Just like my tp

I already asked the 4.0 devs. What we need is a 3.6 dump, so we can get what files we need.

a dump? arent official roms available for download? why can't the necessary code be taken from a rom?
both 4.2 and 3.6 have this feature enabled, so it can be imported from any of these devices. I think it should be trivial - because the devices use the same components, adopting features from one into another should be almost as easy as cutting and pasting the code or a library or whatever they have in android.
Hi guys, since my 3.6 isn't rooted I'm not sure I can dump every file, but I can extract the ones which I have read access. You can also download all the source here

Dear folks,
I have a trusty Dell Streak 5, which I appreciate much, buuuuuut..... I keep getting this error message when trying to load a DSLR controller: "Your Android device is not compatible with Android's USB host API. A newer firmware for your device MAY fix the problem"....
I am currently running Longhorn 2.91 (Android version 2.3.7), Kernal version 2.6.35.14-DSC-Team_Phoenix [email protected] #346, Baseband Version GAUSB1A136000-US.
Are there any fixes for this issue, do I need to change the ROM or what other options have I?
Also, on a side note request, is there a way to change the LCD resolution, everything is a bit too small and unreadable?
Thanks very much!
~J:cyclops:
What's the exact app? If it's doing what I think it's doing, you need to be using Android 3.0 or newer.
If it's using the android usb accessory api, that was introduced in either 3.0 or 3.1, 2.x predates it.
If it's actually trying to become a usb host, it's supported in hardware but it's not terribly reliable in all our current roms.
As for the font sizes, you'll want to read up on ro.sf.lcd_density, the S5 uses 160 while most devices use 240.
Trying to figure this suckah out!
Hello TheManii,
The exact app is this one: DSLR Controller (BETA) 0.94.1 (I cannot, as of yet, post the link).....
Is there a DLSR app that I can use for this ROM pkg? So frustrating indeed!! Or perhaps a workaround?
Is there an app or an add-on for S5 for the LCD?
Thanks much!

is is easy, install the DSC Rom , there you will have a configuration tool called DSConfig, the LCD settings are there too.
DSLR Controller (BETA) - Play Market seems to require your device either support usb hosting or usb accessory mode.
I dont know if DSC supports hosting, as I dont use dsc. But like previously stated usb accessory is for android 3.x and newer.
You might be able to get assitance from n0p to get it supported if you're simply using hosting, though dont expect any type of quick fix, it may take a fair amount of work if it works at all.
You could try using AOSP/ICS as it's new enough to 'support' usb accessory mode, though weither or not our rom+kernel has it working is an entirely different story.
tl;dr: the S5 is a bad canidate for this as it has very weak usb support for connecting other devices. If you plan on using DSLR controller heavily you're definitely better off with a different device.
yes, DSC supports usb hosting fully.
Use a sixaxis pairing tool............
And connect a ps3 controller
Its good...... Works fine for me......
All it needs is a root.....(which u shoul have)..

Thanks for the various replies. I am trying to figure out the best most updated ROM to do this, to use this DELL Streak 5 as a DSLR external monitor. I am currently using Longhorn 2.91 but that, apparently, does not offer the support that I seek. It also goes and stays in landscape mode during calls which I cannot seem to change... Dang ROMS never all perfect... Hahaha!! I may have to just suck it up and get another gadget but I like the idea of having one gadget that does it all, ya know? I cannot stand having a ton of stuff! If you good folks have suggestions regarding the most stable, up-to-date ROM that offers USB controller options, that would be superb!!
Thanks much and have a great weekend!
Hi, I can't post in a developer's forum yet so therefore can't ask if this has been sorted yet but HEY! Does anyone know if this can or will be sorted soon? I don't post much in these forums, mainly because the answers are already somewhere, but I'm not new to android/changing ROMs.
I simply need the phone to connect with bluetooth and stream music when I'm in my car. I use this every day but the last working version of the Jellybam ROM was 2012-11-05. Since then the bluetooth won't stream the music. Phone works fine and the connection is okay but no sound. I've no doubt that if this was a headphone set it wouldn't work either.
Someone posted their 'fix' which I tried and got no connection at all so I re-installed 20121105 :crying:
I like the ROM, it has everything else that I want and it seems fast and I wonder why this change was made?
Anyway, any ideas, please reply

Hmm, can you please explain that it's not a ROM problem but that all Jellybean ROMS have this issue. I think that an issue is a problem and Jellybean ROMs have this problem which isn't being sorted. I'll go back to my original point that the version released on 5th November didn't have a Bluetooth issue but all subsequent versions do - why and is it going to be rectified?
