CPU Won't Stay Stable... - HTC EVO 3D

Hey everyone, long time not talk... Just curious, has anyone had any issues with their dual cores on their EVO V's? No matter what I try things won't stay stable.
The problem is one or both cores keep going back to the 384 default. Even when I loaded a butter sense kernel and had the min at 486 it still goes to the slower one. Either way I'll have the max at 1.5 or 1.2 and a lot of times when I'm waking it up, or other times when I'm just using it, like I said, one or both cores just plummet speed wise.
Right now I'm running NegaLite BluRom for the V and I haven't always had these problems. I read somewhere to not use any CPU managers but I still have any issues, and at least with the CPUM's I can confirm that the speed is way down.
Thoughts and or suggestions would be great.. If it's the ROM fine, but there aren't a lot out there for the V, and what is out there hasn't been updated in a bit...

Overclocking - What speed to expect

Hi all,
I have been browsing this forum for a while now and finally decided to register.
After getting incredibly frustrated waiting for HTC and T-mobile to get their act together and release 2.1 I followed the guides on here and rooted my G2.
I originally flashed VillainROM10.3 and then upgraded to VillainROM12. Both of which are great!
I have since been playing with the CPU speed. I see many people on here claiming CPU speeds of ~750Mhz, however the most I seem to be able to get out of my phone is ~650Mhz (I'm using OverclockWidget from the market to set the frequencies). Is this a problem anyone else has experienced? If so is it down to my phone having a duff CPU or could the problem be with the ROM or the widget I'm using. Whenever I set the phone to anything higher than 650 it either just freezes or reboots itself.
Thanks Guys (and girls?)

It's as simple as; some phones simply can't handle higher MHz
So if I flash for example SuperHero which is supposed to be clocked by default at 691Mhz will my phone freeze on boot or is it smart enough to figure out its max speed.

It will probably freeze but there are kernels the isn't overclocked that high by default
So I don't mean to keep going on about it but when I flashed VR12 the description said:
...
- 19MHz to 748MHz OC kernel
...
However when I run it the default speed its using is 619? Is that normal?

Yes. Many ROMs aren't set to the highest available clock speed by default because there are phones like yours that can't handle it

vibrant freezes please help

hi there
i am a noob i just brought vibrant previously using htc hero...
i tried to flash bionix and bionix fusion with the new 1.2 ghz oc...
phone works well except when i play games like asphalt, neocore my phone freezes then i have to remove the battery and insert again...
what could be the problem
i am using J12 RADIO....
PLEASE HELP ....
VIBRANT IS 100% AN IPHONE KILLER ... LOVE IT....
mine does the same thing not really sure why yet but if your using setcpu just put the speed at 1000 on both the proformance is unnoticable

i had kept setcpu max 1000 and min 200 still it freezes when running heavy graphics games
Your phone might not play nice with that kernel. Try flashing core 1.0 instead and see if that helps.
Yes, not all phones are stable when overclocked. Use the stock kernel and you should be fine.

^^^ this, but I'm sure you knew that since it says so every where.
My phone runs great at 1.2Ghz with JAC's XMOD Voodoo kernel, but locks up constantly with Core, OCed or not. Try swapping kernels, but don't give up on the OC yet.
I'm having the same exact issue, mine will just lock up for no reason sometimes as well. I'm not sure what it is, I kind of feel like it's the rom. I had problems originally with fusion to begin with. Maybe I'm not doing a proper procedure to install it?
Is it because I'm wiping and going straight to fusion? Please anyone else are you having this issue, I'm getting frustrated and feel my phone is slightly useless like this. I HATE stock.
Edit: Setcpu doesn't let me set to 1000 with Core 1.2Ghz, I can only get 1000 if I use Core 1.0Ghz (obviously). Again though, same issue regardless.
Core is still in beta status and not all the bugs have been worked out yet. The issue the OP is having has been mentioned before in the Core thread in the Dev section and on the TeamWhiskey.com forums as well.
OP: To alleviate the freezing issue you're having, flash the 1.0GHz CoreV1 instead of the 1.2GHz CoreV1

Overclock stability?

I have noticed that most kernels are overclockable to 1863mhz and higher. Are some phones actually stable at these clock speeds? I ask because mine will only stay stable at 1736mhz. This is with any ROM/kernel combination. Are all phones a little different in the aspect of what they can handle?
What are you guys stable at?

Yeah each cot core is a little different as to how much it can be overclocked. I was only stable at 1.7 something.
I always have it at max. 1836 (highest possible with my kernel) with scaling ondemand. No unstability so far....

Definitely changes from phone to phone, I've had 4 ThreeVOs and each one had its own tolerance. My latest can only get up to 1.7 before becoming unstable, the first one I got could only go up to 1.5(!) and the last one I had got to 2.0 before it crashed altogether (wish I still had it D: ).
Unfortunately because of a less than perfect manufacturing process and a few different revision numbers each phone is different. So far I haven't been able to go past stock and never get a crash. Even one crash a week is unacceptable to me.
It also will depend on a few other factors though, like kernel, firmware, OS, voltage and temperature, so I personally haven't had the time to play around with the variables you can manipulate to increase stability. It can be done though, without getting a new phone.

[Q] Do most people with rooted/custom ROMs Overclock?

Just curious is most people who root/use custom ROMs overclock, and if so, what settings do you typically use in SetCPU?
I'm using a S2, rooted with latest Unnamed ROM and find myself contemplating if I should make any changes with SetCPU. Lots of options, and Unnamed has all the different governor options, etc. just really looking for some best practices that people who overclock often.
Would appreciate seeing what you consider to be stable overclock options that give a good boost without causing excessive heat/stability issues.
I'm coming at SetCPU with limited experience so I do appreciate any tips that might see rudimentary, or if there are better resources that teach about this I'd appreciate any links as would like to get a better technical understanding of all this. Thanks in advance.
I use No Frills CPU, and I just set it to 1.6 max/ondemand. Absolutely no heat issues or stability issues, so I just stuck with it. Battery life is good.
most maybe but only by a little bit. a good number of people underclock and undervolt their devices to try and get better battery life. to be honest, the newer phones dont need overclocking to handle the current apps and stuff. the older phones like the nexus one and older need overclocking tho. i leave my gs2 stock. what we really need is dual core support before OC becomes worth it on my phone. ymmv
I have never overclocked mine, phone runs smooth as butter at 1.2 so I don't see the need to go farther. Plus I like my battery lasting more than 24 hours...
I overclock my s2. im running unamed 1.3.0. I like run different speeds at different at different battery percents. 1.6 till 75% 1.4 till 50% 1.2 till 25% 1000 till 15% 800mhz till dead. i had some problems with 1.4 ghz but i tweeked the voltage and that did solved my problem. I'm at 50% battery with normal usage. display 1hr 25mn phone calls for 47min and android os for 56min. my phone doesn't get any hotter then it did before i overclocked. I just did it to say i did. It will prolly help a little unless you like emulators then it will help alot. i have to overclock my iconia a500 to 1.6 if i want to play n64 games.
I'm on UnNamed 1.3.1 with the latest entropy dd kernel and am very happy with the stock CPU speed

[Q] ZenDroid-2.1.2 and Kernels

I don't have enough posts to ask this in the development thread.
I'm using ZenDroid-2.1.2 with the included Bali v1.8.8UV kernel.
This combo works great, but it will sometimes hang for 0.5-2 seconds before completing an action (opening an app, recognizing keyboard input).
This lag is really noticeable after coming CM7 with an OC kernel (I left because I need 911, GPS, and better battery life).
Any suggestions to get a snappier response? Should I try a different kernel?
Thanks!
Self-reply here.
I tried the Bali X 1.2 and and got sleep of death on stock settings. When I used set CPU at min 400 and max 1200 (both conservative) the battery went dead overnight from 78% and my alarm didn't go off.
Still looking.
I notice this too sometimes but it has never really bothered me. Some other kernels you can try are Stock KB5+Voodoo, DragonMODz, or Immortality.
DragonMODz is a good one, and while I've not used Immortality myself, I heard good things. Obviously none of these are really updated anymore but it's not really a big deal.
Jneal9-
I see you've got Bali X as your kernel in your sig. What settings do you use?
