Ok, so I know this is a hugely personal thing, but, will you keep Touchwiz or use a custom launcher?
Personally, I don't like the look of Touchwiz at all. With that in mind one of the great ICS launchers (Nova and Apex) should seem like an easy decision!?
The thing is I am not sure how many of the new features you may lose out on by giving up on Touchwiz... will features like SmartAlert and SmartStay still work?

I as well will be changing the launcher. Yes, your extra Touchwiz like features will remain (ie SmartStay, SmartAlert, and the redesigned apps such messaging and the settings and the drop down notification shade) as those are baked into the firmware. The only you thing you might (and probably WILL) be losing are your Touchwiz widgets and from past experience with them that's not a deal breaker at all.
I will say one thing as someone who's deciding between the HOX and the SGSIII that I'm a bit disappointed that Touchwiz hasn't matured quite the same way that Sense has. Sense just plain looks nicer and you can clearly see the ICS undertones. I feel like ICS has been buried beneath Touchwiz. And I don't like that :-(

I always use Go Launcher EX on any of my phones
In all honesty I'll either stick with touchwiz or use spb shell 3d which I already have on my tablet.

+1000 GoEx on all our devices.
Nova launcher ftw
sent a 96gb N7000
I've used various launchers but nothing covers up Touch wiz completely, which is why I use custom roms.

none. unless he means the theme itself.
I used a custom launcher on my S2. However looking at Touchwiz on the S3, I quite like it. It looks alot nicer.
I`ll probably keep it until I want more options and theming.

I think that's exactly it. I am judging it before I have had time with it. My new approach will be to keep it until I don't like it!
Depends on two factors:
1. How good the tw widgets are (some of them are good!)
2. Whether I need more ram (tw is a memory hog), and whether tw is butter smooth (I'm guessing this iteration is!).

i never put a custom gb rom on my gs2, but i have put the att leak and now aokp on it. i have less memory now than i did with stock att plus tw. my experiences may very well vary from others.

Likewise. TW will be the very first thing I change when setting up my phone and will be replaced with Go Launcher EX lol
If the phone shows zero signs of lag - I will likely keep the stock launcher. Just rooted to ditch bloat apps.
touch wiz launcher is just a part of all the software customizations packed. if you replace the laucher you will still have the rest of touch wiz package like music player, radio etc etc

I always believed that one of the biggest benefits of going to 1280x720 is that we should finally be rid of app compatibility problems.
Anyone still having problems with any apps? Since we are S3 resolution identical now, I assume this list should be close to nil.
Anyone trying apps that didn't work before? Horn, for example, just totally crashes on the Note 1.

Same on my note. I bought it yesterday when it was on sale for 25cents, but looks like I got taken! Does nothing but immediately crash on my note 1, fully stock, unrooted running the latest ICS firmware (LRT). Sad times.
I can't even download Horn on my n7100. It says incompatible.
I think Horn is Tegra 2/3 only. It says optimised for, but isn't compatible with any of my devices.
Hey guys,
anyone tried to use apex on the note2? (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher)
It seems to stutter a little bit. Can anyone proof that, or is it just my device? Using 4x5 lines on 4 screens, so nothing special.
Also the search bar from google is white, when I swipe from screen to screen, but when it stops, it gets gray.
Good news is swiftkey doesn't know if it's a tablet or a phone. I can use phone or tablet version (bought both).
Unfortunately swype beta seems a bit laggy for me. What text input do you use?
Anyway, best device I've hold in my hand!
Didn't have a crazy experience with apex either.
I actually uninstalled it and went back to twlauncher =/

osu!droid stutters very badly if you disable the internal music player (which you'd need to do to play songs with .ogg files)
tap sonic freezes for the first 10 seconds in a song, and then jumps ahead and plays without sound.
touchmix graphics don't line up with the touch detection so you have to tap above the buttons, it's worst in the lower half of the screen.
touchmix fx freezes when you start it, you need to press home and launch it again to unfreeze.
It seems that SketchBook Pro cannot be installed on this device. that makes me a sad puppy.

You lose S Pen pop up (no big deal because you can just click on the app.)

You only lost the auto-go to special homescreen of twlauncher but you still get the auto smemo popup
Tried again. Get notification in status bar but no pop up. S pen setting to open pop up window was not checked. Works now.

I'm not asking which people like best, because I know that is highly subjective. What I want to know are which ROMs have all original S-Pen functions intact and if they have Samsung's apps too, that a bonus. I want a ROM that has more settings in the notification pull down and more theme options, but I don't want to give up the S-Pen functions that were one of the big reasons I got a Note. Any ideas?
did you know you can get gmt spen control from the market and use it with any rom? Then get an app like papyrus or memo, and you can set up custom gestures, or the original gestures if you like.
It works extremely well, and let's you try out cm based roms while still getting to use your s pen

You, my friend, are my hero for the day! I absolutely did not know that. I've only had the phone like 2 days and have only been back on Android like 2 days. I was on Windows Phone for the past two years after about as long on Android and really got out of touch with Android during that time.
Also, what is the name of the app that gives you S-Pen control? I got a lot of results but quite a few of them seemed fairly shady.

gmd spen control root ( sorry I put gmt last night lol) it is like 5 bucks but fully worth it. You can make all the gestures you want it is seriously an awesome app.

Almost any rom that is based on the recent 4.1.2 release will be able to run the S-Note app.
Try padawan jb 4.1.2

So on the Galaxy S5 and of course all Nexus devices, you can say "okay google" from the home screen (as long as you have the updated google search bar on the home page" and you can use all the voice features without touching the screen... If the S5 has it, why doesn't the HTC ONE M8?

i wish the M8 has this feature, im really enjoying the stock launcher or else i would just throw on the GEL onto the phone and use the feauter
doesnt bother me to much to swipe up from the home key and activated it that way tho
I don't think the S5 has it on their stock launcher, do they? Either way as previously mentioned if you install the GEL launcher you'll get that same functionality.

I know this is going to sound like a dumb question. I *did* search around and read a bit before asking, but really didn't get any answers...
Themer intrigues me. But..... what is it?
On the Themer web site if you go to "About", you don't get an explanation of what Themer is, but you get the bios of the team.
Is Themer a launcher? I have a Note 4 that I just got a month or so ago and was wondering what I might LOSE by installing Themer. Does all my TouchWiz stuff still work? (s-pen stuff, air gestures, things like that). Really basic question I know, but I expected to find this info prominently explained on the web site and.... if it's there, I apologize if I missed it. (I'll play the AGE card at that point )

Hi CJ, don't worry it's not a dumb question...
Themer is a launcher, in the same way TouchWiz is a launcher. Therefore, using Themer restricts access to S-Pen, Air Gestures etc.
However, Touchwiz isn't nearly as powerful for customization when compared to Themer. Every launcher comes with its pros and cons. So if you're looking for a launcher to easily customize your phone, use Themer, especially if you're not a heavy user of Samsung's features.

Hi Marco, I don't have a Note 4 but Themer does not restrict any of the proprietary Touchwiz functionality such as the S pen on my Note 3 and Note 2. It only restricts you from using TW homescreen widgets.

Yes those gestures are mostly for functions in TW apps like their Internet browser or gallery. They only do a few editing tricks within the TW launcher itself.
