Why does Lumia 925 not get the Black Update - Nokia Lumia 920

Hello
I own a Lumia 925 which was bought from Vodafone Germany (because that was the only place to get a 32 GB model) and then reflashed to the operator agnostic firmware for Germany ("CV DE"/"Country Variant Germany")
Now about a week ago I heard about the "global" rollout of the Black update for both the Lumia 925 and the Lumia 1020 and try to update ever since then. But the phone never finds an update! It looks for it as long as the screen is active and when the screen goes off and I switch it on again I always read that the phone is up to date.
I tried to reach out to Nokia via all channels I could think of. No one except Nokia US help on Twitter bothered to reply. But the only thing they said is that they can't comment on my problem. Not sure what this means. Do they not know the answer? Is it too embarassing to tell me what the cause of the problem is? Are they not allowed to respond with the reason for my problem? Something else? Really, American CSRs are the worst with their meaningless and often useless answers.
Does anybody here have an idea why my phone is not finding the Black update? It was a global rollout for my model, Nokia's info page states it should be available since last week, but still... Is this perhaps blocked out of spite? Because I flashed the phone to some neutral firmware instead of "enjoying" the Vodafone crap?
My Lumia 920 could be updated without problems by the way. I just mention this so you know that I know how to update a Lumia.
Thanks for any tips!

Reflashing probably ruined something. I got the Black update on my Hungarian CV a month ago.
http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/availability-in-europe/
Here it says 'available' for black update for both vodafone and CV Germany. You must've ruined something.
You could try resetting your phone, maybe that would do something.

Update rollout via Zune is staged meaning not every phone gets the update on the same time. The rollout period is two weeks and started on Jan 19th. You will receive it in the end. There is a 'hack' to get it sooner, put it requires some patients as timing is critical, search for 'disconnect trick'. Good luck.
Thanks. Yes I remember this old trick of disconnecting at the right time, I'm going to wait on this one
You have the same phone as me (UK unlocked & unbranded). The line you don't understand basically means it's a UK variant.
For the mid December update, I waited to get it, took over a week. This time I did the disconnect method and got it on release day.

Hi Rusty, I havn't got the update yeat and I have a UK unlocked Lumia 800. BUT I am wondering on another note. I joined GG last wek and it seems good. I inputted the APN info so I can get on the net but I cant send MMS. I am going to write up a new thread for this now. Can you use MMS and if so how so?
Thanks.
I've not tried, but I'm assuming I cant, as most people on pretty much every carrier cant
Sadly Giffgaff is not included in the Network Setup app either, so we're boned.
Thanks for getting back. Will have to wait and see than. Just don't know why MSFT can't give us this

Exactly in the same situation as OP. I tricked it in zune but i only recieved the OS update and i havent been able to get the firmware update.
Black lumia 800 rm-801
Very strange. I have a stock Lumia straight from Nokia (no branding, unlocked) and I got both the OS and firmware update in one go the day after release. I had to do the disconnect trick though...
I've tried 3 times. I got the OS update automatically on day one. I restored to 7740 and tried again. Still OS only. Tried a few days later and got the same thing.
Waiting up to 8 more days for firmware.
I am still waiting for the 11500 update as well and I sincerely hope Nokia have done something to improve the woefull bass output.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express
Still waiting for the firmware update. I got the OS update a few days ago and my mate got the firmware and OS the same day. Only difference is his is the black lumia 800 and mine is the Cyan lumia 800
Mine is cyan as well. Did ur mate notice any differnce to sound? We are hoping for more bass
Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express
The bass on mine and his seems fine. We both have the monster purity earphones.

Thanks, Lets hope they fixed it. It is just crap on mine, can't use it at all as music player specially as I loke loads of bass. I use winstone 4 and the sound is a disgrace for Nokia.
Can someome point me to a thread/post where the disconnect method is described?
Click update, after a couple of seconds, pull your ethernet cable/disable your net connection and if you timed it right, you'll get the update.
Still no FW update, but I have updated my OS with the disconnect-trick in Zune. Will I still get the FW or not trough Zune?

I originally did the disconnect trick and the only update I got was for the OS. I tried again and again using the disconnect trick but I could not get the firmware update.
Then my friend got the update for his Black Lumia 800 which contained the firmware update as well. So I restored my Cyan Lumia 800 to the previous version. The very first boot up of my phone said there was an update available but it was only for the OS, no firmware.
I tried the disconnect trick again but I still can't get the firmware update.
Hopefully we will all get it this week.

Good news! Nokia have released a statement saying they will be releasing another update to fix both the sound and camera.

I tried the disconnect method but can't get working. I switch to Airplane mode, plug the phone, go to update page on Zune. Do the same again and disconnect at various time but no luck.
I have already the 8107 OS update

Late, but 12070 update has finally arrived for Orange/T-Mobile Lumia 800

Late, but finally update 12070 has arrived on the Lumia 800 for Orange/T-Mobile users, so start updating and if you're on the Singapore FW, I suggest you recover from backup and update.
Stupid Orange/T-Mobile, always late.
Still no update
Still no update for me
I have an unbranded Lumia 800 cyan from Phones4U on Orange but no update available in Zune despite Nokia Europe saying that it's available for my model (059M539 Country Variant). I swapped my Orange sim for a Vodafone sim to see if that did anything. . . nothing. recovered a backup in Zune and updated the OS again, but still no Firmware update to 12070.
If it doesn't come soon I'll take it to Nokia Care next time we're in Glasgow as this battery life is terrible (although seemed slightly better on the Vodafone sim!)
I didn't really want to start looking at the other methods I've seen of updating Just wanted to get it officially in Zune!
On searching the issue, I've seen a lot of users of 059M539 code have also not been getting the upgrade.
Same here, same model nr. Cyan Lumia from Phones4U, Orange Sim, also from Glasgow.
Oddly enough I have the latest OS version, just not the latest firmware version. Now that the volume bug is fixed I'm tempted to force a flash bypassing Zune.

Cyan models are delayed for some reason, but it should have arrived by now. Get in contact with Phones4U, see if they have any dates, since it is a batch of theirs.
Got sick of waiting so I used the update tool
Initial findings, it has improved the battery, can easily get a full day even with quite a lot of use!

I've never heard of retailers blocking updates before? However, it does seem possible as I'm seeing several reports of that specific product no not updating. Note that Nokia specifically lists it as having an update available since pretty much day 1 of the firmware being made public. I've posted a query on P4U's forum. Should have known better than to buy from those muppets, but they were the only ones at the time that had the cyans. Someone I know wants the white Lumia 710, but it's another P4U exclusive
mlaidlaw, did you update directly to 12072 with the volume bug fix, or still 12070?

I actually updated to 12070 first, then realised I could also upgrade to 12072, so used the same process again and now have 12072 working fine.

Maybe the Cyan's are delayed because it takes several months to make sure the Nokia Blue theme is still there?

Yep, I mocking how the blue plastic makes my phone somehow ineligible for software updates.
On a more serious query, does having an Orange Sim in my unbranded model phone mean that Orange still has to approve my firmware versions? I'd assume that Carriers only have a say over their branded variants?
I'm still baffled how a specific subset of a particular product code (a product code that has had the upgrade available from the day of announcement according to the Nokia sit) is being left behind? Apple really does get some things right, not letting the Carriers dictate software updates.

No, if you have unbranded you can get the updates for unbranded devices
Yes, Nokia pushed the update, but Orange (one step further) blocked it again It's possible... Unfortunately.

"Microsoft reportedly starts rolling out Windows Phone 7.8 update" for Lumia 800
Hi guys,
It's been some time since I last checked in here. I'm still waiting for my Lumia 920, should arrive shortly. Anyhow, there seems to be some other news today...
Apparently some people in Holland are receiving notifications for an update according wpcentral. I am not sure that this is really happening, so I wanted to ask if anybody here got it yet.
I tried the old NoDo trick in Zune and got nothing yet
Nothing here in the UK yet.
i noticed in this morning... navifirm doesn't contain anymore 7.8 firmware for lumia 800.
there are just few FW for a small number of product codes and only FW 1600.xx.xxxx...
Im in Holland with a lumia 800 black no branding. I did not get anything yet
No branding Lumia in Romania, haven't gotten anything yet either....
nothing 4me
still waiting this update...in Serbia
Looks like some kind of hoax. Because even Engadget reported this today, but I am yet to see anybody confirming this actually happened. I hate the silence on these updates. Microsoft needs to communicate with people...
They are probably preparing to roll the updates out.
if you download from navifirm try option "clear cache" its work for me...
but nothing special ...dissapointg

Can I install a CV firmware if the phone is a TIM Italy branded one? (I can use it it any network tho).
---------- Post added at 10:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:47 PM ----------
Just a quick note! I just installed the UK Country Variant while my phone was TIM Italy branded, everything works just great, I got a proper connection with Zune, the Nokia Collection is there, but I can't find the Bluetooth Sharing App the Music creator or w/e is called.
Lumia update
Whilst not a hoax, it seems this was a selective testing update for a certain group of handsets.
Looks like it will be early 2013 for the general rollout, see here:

Debrand Lumia 920 EE

Hello guys,
Just managed to get my UK EE Lumia 920 unlocked.
What firmware must I download to 'debrand' my phone?
i.e what firmware do EU/UK Unlocked Lumia 920 use? and what is the latest version? Thanks
I just had mine too. would love to debrand it. my firmware is rm-821_eu_euro1_342. i'm guessing this is EE firmware?
I too have an unlocked Nokia Lumia 920 bought on Orange PAYG. My phone doesn't appear to be 'branded' as such - there are just a few references to EE if you dig deep enough and the IE homepage is set to the EE site. It's not like the old days when Orange would brand the device right, left and centre including physical logos on the body of the phone.
Is it worth flashing it when the branding is not evident in normal use? What would you gain from this?
I'm also wondering if we'll get the Nokia updates sooner with the phone linked to a carrier - I heard rumours that the unlocked Nokias will be updated last of all.

I de-branded mine and to be honest I don't see any difference either, I am even considering going back to the EE rom.
I think all the Nokias will be updated at the same time, RM-820 has been updated, and once all the roms are on Navifirm the RM-821 will go live, but the CV GB rom did appear on NaviFirm before the EE one, but only by about a week.
I've been thinking of putting the oem ? rom on mine...
thought updates might be quicker in future, also, i've noticed i can't set 2g as max speed and i've read some people can set it to 2g in mobile settings, not often I used it but if i need the phone to last as long as possible I would always set my last phone to 2g as the battery life increased like crazy
quick question..
where did you guys get yor phones unlocked from?
i have a tmob uk 920 and im travelling and would like to get it
unlocked to use overseas for a few weeks
suggestions?

RM_820 has not been updated if you are on AT&T. In fact we most likely won't see that update till after the exclusivity contract ends just becuase that is the way AT&T is. As for debranding in general, it really makes no difference other than maybe gets rid of some of the provider specific apps. There is no change to the phone function or behavior otherwise.
my tmobile phone is CVGB phone but beware that CVGB roms don't have 4g yet

[Q] Lumia 920 from BUILD

Hi,
I got a Lumia 920 at the BUILD conference in 2012, and I've been a happy Norwegian camper since. Love my phone! So I was distraught when it started booting to a BSOD a few weeks ago. I contacted Nokia, they said to visit the nearest Nokia Care which I did.
Got the phone mailed back to me, but now instead of the unbranded firmware, I have AT&T branded firmware and apps, and it is not working with 4G or 3G properly.
I'm in contact with Nokia Care Europe now, hoping they can fix it - either giving me the default Nokia firmware, unbranded - or for my actual carrier (Telenor Norway) as an alternative. Last option will most likely give me data connection functionality again. If not, what are my options? Are the legal ways to get back to the original firmware on my own?
Thanks.

use NCS. There's latest fw for build 920. Remember the code is 059R2L5. good luck!
Can that firmware be flashed to an AT&T 920 to get rid of the carrier branding and allow wifi hotspot capability with LTE?
