Shortcuts doesn't appear on Home screen after apps are installed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I use latest Nova launcher (Premium) and CM11 (nightly). But the same happened with CM10 stable and nightlies.
When I install new app - shortcut doesn't appear on my homescreen. I remember long time ago (I think that was in ICS stock launcher) - shortcuts would appear. But not anymore.
Automatically add widgets checkbox is checked in the Play Store Settings.
I even reinstalled fully Nova. No success.
Any ideas how to fix that?

Anyone?

Nova settings
New apps
Check the box
I believe its off by default now as many may not like apps just showing up

Thanks. Didnt know nova has that setting. Everything works. Thanks!!!

[Q] GMail Widget

I am using ADW Launcher and the GMail widget causes the the homescreens to always switch to the one where the widget is when the tablet is rotated. Anyone else noticed this?
This also happened to me after i added the Email widget! Even worse, LaunherPro FC's and I'll have to repick my default launcher (wich is LP) every time i reboot and the launcher is loaded.
I've done nothing else but rooted my tab.

I had the same problem. It annoyed me so much that I went back to stock launcher.

I only had these problems straight after doing the gmail widget fix since i lost gmail widget after rooting so i tried this;
Solution: uninstall both your launcher switcher and launcher, then install latest home switcher (the gingerbread ready), and reinstall launcher.
Now, change transition effect, if you have that option, to 'none' and turn off high quality scrolling etc...
I'm now running a pretty heavy homescreen including gmail widget, emailwidget, several widgetsoids, twitter widget, facebookwidget, g+ widget and some other stuff on latest bonsaiROM, and everything runs smooth. Note: I was already on latest bonsaiROM when the problems occured

Apex Launcher (ICS)

Here is another launcher for ICS. It is like stock launcher but have options like adw and launcher pro ie transparent app drawer, gestures, lock desktop etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
I'm definitely gonna try this out. Not sure how much experience yyouve had with this but installing as system app shouldnt remove the default launcher your rom comes with? ie most ICS roms come with trebuchet launcher?
No, it installs as normal app and you don't need to move it to /system folder for widgets to show up in app drawer.
good find on this launcher, it feels alot like launcher pro but totally revamped for ics
just needs resizable widgets

I cant believe i missed that, thanks for the heads up, this is quite an awesome launcher i dont think i can go back to anything that doesnt use ics as a base any more
what do you prefer, this or NOVA?
personally on my galaxy nexus i prefer nova..but only because it's more mature.apex is a month newer, but with already a lot of features..nova,at this time, have more features, but i find apex more speedy and i hadn't got any issues or unstability also on gpu-renderized
works great in ICS passion v 12
Guys and girls, just a heads up - updating Apex Launcher is apparently resulting in Force Close dialog ad nauseam - DO NOT update Apex for now or else you'll be stuck. Thankfully I had Avast installed and using the Avast Application Manager I managed to access Apex's App Info page and uninstalled updates, now back to normal but won't update it for now. Recent Apex reviews on Play Store show that this is not ROM-related or an isolated event. You've been warned. (If you read this that is)...

Last night my phone auto updated the apex launcher and exactly what you said happened. I went into clockwork recovery and tried to restore and it gave an error and now the phone seems bricked. It won't boot up beyond the vibrant screen, and it won't let me get into recovery. What should I do?

Clearing defaults

I installed pure grid calender and had it all set up with appointments for weeks and weeks and now its gone. Its seems that my launcher is also different. I have no clue what happened. Now when I click the N twice it doesn't pop up with home catcher any more. I figured that some way some how it switched to a different launcher that doesn't have my calender on it.
How do switch my launcher if home catcher is not working?
How do I find my calender with all my dates on it?
Any help would be great as I am completely f'ed with out that calender.
Thanks
Using hidden settings app go to application settings > manage applications > all , then find the launcher it has set by default select it then press clear defaults button, if you dont know which launcher is ( you should know what you have installed) then just scroll down the list and look for the apps that have the word launcher in it.

I only have one launcher installed... None the less I was able to fix my issue. My calender widget had gotten removed. Thankfully all my dates were saved in the "calender" and when I put pure grid widget back and loaded the default calender my dates re appeared and I just had to go back through the settings.
It seems there is a new issues every other day with this NT.

You should try to move it to /system/app folder if its not there already is better for widgets

[Q] Apex Launcher not removing uninstalled app icons.

I am running Apex Launcher Pro and have started to notice a problem. When I uninstall apps that I have in folders in Apex Launcher Pro, the icons for those apps are not being removed when i uninstall the apps. I uninstalled roughly 30-40 apps not too long ago and they are all still present in my app folders on my desktop. Is there a way to have Apex remove these icons when uninstalling apps? Currently I have to go and test icons to see if the apps are installed or uninstalled in order to test them, which can be quite annoying if you have a large number of apps.
I am running the latest Apex on a Verizon GS3 running Synergy ROM.
Thanks in advance.
Still looking for info on this.

Try restarting from apex settings
Sent from my HTC ChaCha with CM9 using XDA app.
Nope =/
They are not cleared out after a restart. Restarting phone, installing Apex updates, restarting the launcher, or having Apex crash and reload all fail to clear the uninstalled apps.
I am intentionally leaving these in my folders for testing purposes, but I have failed to find a fix. I have paid for both Apex Pro and Nova Pro and have been an Apex user for a long time now. I may have to switch to Nova if I can't figure out what is causing this, but I would prefer to find a fix as I enjoy Apex.

[HELP] CM10.1 Cant add widgets

I go to the app drawer and I cannot long press add widget to home screen, even though I can long press the home screen to change wallpaper
Any suggestions?
Do you get any messages? Did you try rebooting or wiping dalvik and cache or also try to fix permission? Stock launcher or third party launcher?

Yeah, all my connectivity is fine, and If I download new apps with their own widgets while waiting in the widget drawer, I can drag a single one out, which is quite annoying to be honest. I thought it was the launcher at first too but maybe it's just the build? flashed an earlier nightlies and it works fine.
I got this with Trebuchet too. I just switched to Apex (which is much better in my opinion anyway) and widgets can be placed normally.
Hmm
