[Q] HELP! roaming issue after any custom rom 4.4 [SOLVED] - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I had been trying to flash KK on a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100, but I had no data signal and just a R is at my statusbar... I had been looking on forums but I can't fix it yet. I tryied to put APN by manual and everything work properly but as a roaming conection and I'm not able to have a normal data conection.
I'm not high skilled in android things but I've been reading and I can't find a solution. Can anyone help me?

How are your mobile network settings set? (settings - more (wireless and networks) - mobile networks)
Is KK your first custom rom?

Now i got back to previous JB version. In the past I used to have: RR, PA and Wanamlite roms without any problems, now I tryed Neat and it is working properly.
The settings were initially data: check, 3G network
After tryied somes, I got data conection with manual settings of APN with muy mobile opeator information and checking roaming data as I read somewhere else.
As I said now NEAT Rom v5.6 is working well without any manual configuration

Sorry.
So to get it all right.
JB (4.1.x): mobile data is working
KK (4.4.x): mobile data isn't working
Did you do a clean install with all the wiping and formating and without restoring anything? Have you tried android 4.3.x?

Disapointed
After a deeper research, I found the problem is related with my mobile operator "ONO - Spain" something wrong with the updates of mobile networks or something like that. I will put SOLVED in this issue, but the problem still, now with any rom.
Thanks for the usefull discusion Christiaan91

Yes, im having the same prooblem as you. Anyone knows how to fix it?
Go to modems thread in dev forum and flash the needed modem.
And check your APN settings to ensure they are correct for your carrier.

No data/internet with custon ROMS (I did configured correct APN and try 7 ROMS)

Hello! I can't get data or internet access with custom ROMS, I only have internet access with Samsung Official ROMS.
I Did try 7 diferents ROMS but no luck with any of them, I did configure the APN settings, I copied and put just
the same APN settings that I have in the Official Samsung ROMS of my provider that works ok with internet, but it does not work in non Official ROMS.
I can make calls, with all custon ROMS but no internet access.
Please help!!!
I'm on dual boot now with Siyah. Using lastest UK official ROM (internet works great) and Paranoid Android as second ROM
(APN configured the same that the UK offical ROM, but no internet access), calls and MMS works OK.
Help please!!!
Thanks!

On Samsung Roms, is your network H+ or H?
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Hi, thanks for the reply!!
Stock ROM:
In "about phone"/"Status" tab says: HSDPA:9
Network cell phone status says: connected
In network mode, I have GSM/WCDMA selected.
Paranoid Android/any custom ROM or non Samsung ROM:
In "about phone"/"status" tab says HSDPA:8
Network cell phone status says: Disconected...How to connect it?
On thing I noticeed is that in non stock ROMS, there are no option for network mode...(Don't let me choose GSM/WCDMA)
I don't know if flash another ROM because i'm on dual boot...Flashing another Kernel will kill dual boot?

-I see. That's the main problem, your network is H+.
-without H+, you cannot connect to internet.
-I have three users with same problem as yours.
-I really hope I'll be able to help you guys. It would have been easier if Mr own network is also H+.
-Give me one or two days, I'll come up with a great idea once I have more time to think.

Can't Save APN Settings RemICS Rom

Hello. I have a Samsung Vibrant and I just flashed RemICS rom and it looks great. The only problem is that I cannot seem to get my internet settings back in. I go to mobile networks, select add new apn, put in the apn settings, then click save. Then it returns me to a blank apn list. I reboot and go back to see if it is in the list and it's not. I've tried this three times and for some reason it won't save my apn settings. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks.
The issue might be due to the fact that Remics currently has an issue with baseband and I believe imei as well. They are working on a new base for their ROM. Try a different jb rim and see if it works. * if you flash hellybean use 0817 build not 0820.

Just to be clear, did you flash the ICS version, or the JB version?
As samsgun mentioned, the JB rom currently has some issues that will be resolved soon enough, but for now leaves you without any data connection. If, however, you flashed the ICS version (Which I am currently running, and love) we can try and get down solving your problem. But before we figure out what to fix, we have to know what we are working with ^^

I flashed the JB version. I didn't see the ICS version. I also flashed HellyBean the 820 version and same issue. Someone above said the 817 version might work. I really love the rom but I need data because I'm out and about a lot and need to get my work emails while Im out. I'm going to donate cause the rom is great and such hard work went into it. I think ill try the ICS version until the data is working for the JB version.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll report in after I falsh the ICS version.

That's two jb ROMs that will mess up baseband remics and hellybean 0820, thus the reason I said flash 0817 build.

Hey guys,
I've been struggling with the same problem for weeks now. It doesn't matter what I do, the APNs settings won't save unless I flash back to an older ROM. Below I've listed some of the stuff I tried:
- Reboot the device multiple times
- Disable/enable flight mode and reboot
- Switch to "3G" only and back
- Add APN and wait a few minutes before saving
- Add APN and use back button instead of menu option to save
- Fix permissions under CWM
- Reinstall the ROM
- Flash other custom ROMs
- Flash other kernels
- Flash other modems
- Flash new ROM over working ROM without doing wipe/factory reset to keep settings
- Flash ROM without SIM and SD card
- Manually populating preferred-apn.xml
- Deleting telephony.db
- Confirm that telephony.db gets populated correctly
- Confirm that my sp settings are in apns-conf.xml
- Copied apns-conf.xml from known working ROM
- Use "APN Backup & Restore"
I even checked the logs while trying to add APN settings and found the following error: "Failed setting numeric 'null' to the current operator". It comes from a file called "TelephonyProvider.java", but I haven't made any progress with it.
I'm going to kick myself if the solution ends up being something as simple as fiddling with the user agent settings. But I'm not quite sure how this affects the system APN settings, do you perhaps know?
FYI, I actually have a Galaxy S2 and already posted in the S2 forums, but no luck yet. So I'm trying every possible solution that I can find. I also have a replacement SIM on its way, but it will take about 3 days to arrive.
I actually got the network in remics working but I had to flash a different kernel I told (patrick)or who ever is it that maintain that rom here, I couldnt get sound or camera but as of the network and apns it was running good...

Maps location do not work, can't get a location-signal

Hi guys,
After rooting my s2 I put the helly bean 4.1.2 ROM. Everything works fine, except the maps.
Post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940321 for the custom ROM.
I cant get any location with 3g or GPS enabled with the Google maps. And I have it enabled from the location access in the settings.
It says always 'your current location is temporarily unavailable' and I can't fix it.
If I am connected to a WiFi then it works, but if I am home I don't need it.
Does anybody know what to do? I am using maps almost every day and now i cant.

Thank you very much , i am searching for a modem in my region , otherwise i will just flash any of them and see what happens.
In sammobile.com which file should i download? Where it says download the files are big , i think these are ROMs. (when i was flashing a rom i also downloaded from there my original rom in case something happens)
hmmm..I'm pretty sure there are modems there too, I dunno.
But yeah, go ahead and change modems to see what happens with that crazy gps and all.

[Q] Mobile data not working on 4.4.4 ROMs

FIX HAS BEEN FOUND: Delete all APNs, add a new one, only input "name" and "APN" fields, and reboot.
Help, I have this annoying problem. Mobile data is not working on any ROM which is based on Android 4.4.4.
It works fine on ROMs using 4.4.2, and it works fine on Stock (which was 4.1.2 or something?).
I have tried several 4.4.4 roms: Official Cyanogenmod. Ehndroix V. NeatROM. SpiritROM. SlimSaber.
I checked and reset APN settings and everything looked normal. Googling the problem there are some others with the same problem, but I have not found any solution.
Currently running Resurrection Remix which is 4.4.2, but it seems like all 4.4.2 ROMs are unstable on my I9100 phone so I would really like a 4.4.4 ROM, which worked perfectly except for this issue.
This is caused by the incompatibility between the modem and the ril(that's included by the rom). Flash a new modem and see if this fixes your problems.
Thanks, that makes sense I guess.... But uuh, it looks very complicated, with tons of different modems available... Do you have any recommendations? I am in Denmark if that makes any difference.
Update: I have now tried almost all of the recommended modems in this thread, plus a few others. No luck... Anyone have any good ideas?

That's weird. I don't know any workarounds. I guess you could stick with the last working version of android then, (probably 4.4.4 android code broke compatibility with your apn).
Okay, I tried with a few more radios... Then I tried installing the app GetRIL which is supposed to automatically find and install the best radio available.... Didn't work, my baseband disappeared and then I installed a SII fixer app, but it all got ****ed up.... And now I flashed a 4.4.2 ROM back and everything works again.
I wonder why, but I'll just stick to that.
Until a Android 5 ROM is ready.
Case closed.

Well you did a common noob mistake regarding to rils. NEVER use getril as it falsely reports mismatching rils and installs the wrong ril anyway. We got a few months to go until an official release

I'd wish you didn't say I did a "noob" mistake as I did everything I could before trying getrils, including properly and manually changing modems.
Anyways now I have tried with two Android 5 ROMS (Cyanogenmod 12 and Resurrection Remix), and it's the exact same story... So for fun I tried to see if there was any 4.4.3 ROMS in existence, which there is. I found one called Techfusion+, where data also works. So it is something in 4.4.4 that messes my phone up.
Update:
I have now upgraded to a Galaxy S3 (I9300), and guess what, it's got the same problem, except this time 4.4.4 ROMS works fine, but still no mobile data on Lollipop.
Maybe it's my sim card??

I had similar problems on my I9100 - also in Denmark - and found that the problem disappears when I remove *all* access point configurations, and then add a single access point, with only "name" and "APN"/"Adgangspunkt" changed from default. Name=tdc and Adgangspunkt=internet. Then suddenly mobile data connects.
I hope this also works for you.
Best regards

... now, does anyone know of a lollipop ROM where they removed the stupid "swipe to unlock" bull****?
