[Q] Flashing to CM11 from Stock EH03 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going from stock to 11
I follow the steps in this guide
I'm trying to install CM10.1 before installing CM11. From what i've read this is ideal
The problem occurs when I go to install cm 10.1
-push EH03 via odin
-reboot
-push cwm4 fixed for 7 via odin
-push GB Bootloaders
-3 button into recovery
-wipe (recover-factory reset / wipe dalvik cache)
*** I get an E: unkown volume for path [/sd-ext] when clearing dalvik cache. I don't know if this is normal***
-install zip -> CM-10.1-xxxxx.zip
This is where i get stuck
load screen starts then reads "bml/mtd..."
reboots into cwm v6.0.2.2
immediately flashes META-INF... with error droid background (cant read the error flashes to fast)
repeats this error 3-5 times then loads into cwm 6.0.2.2
If i try to reinstall zip from there it just blinks then goes back to cwm home.
I cant do anything from this point and I have to reload EH03
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Have you verified the MD5 of your CM10.1 download. Could just be a bad download.

Read this thread and see if it helps.

yes I've referenced that thread and posts in the original guide as well.
I've tried many different install methods and guides and I either get a status 7 error or install immediately resets the recovery and fails to load.
I've spent all day and a good portion of last week on this and its super frustrating
reloaded all the downloads from the guide this morning to make sure I didn't end up with a bad file same result.
I did get a cm7 rom working this weekend and one ICS(CM9?) rom working but when I would try to move on from there im ending up in this position.
just tried to flash hellybean 4.2.2 and im getting status 7 error.
saw a post that said to install zip again after first 7 error and still the same result, cant get past status 7 error.
I did a few other searches for status 7 fixes and im not coming up with anything definative.

I had a similar problem a while back that was due to the SD card. Let me see if I can find the thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2407858

Try flashing this rom after the EH03 stock rom and before the 4.2.2 rom

sounds exactly like my problem, I did just buy a sandisk class 10 last friday after an old class 4 became currupt.
I'll try it with a diffrent sd card and see where that gets me.

Semi Bricked - Have Access to Download & Recovery

***************SOLVED*******************
Hey, hoping some android gurus can help me out here.
I had the latest version of Obsydian on my phone and have not had any issues. Yesterday, my battery on the phone died, and when it started up again I was getting forcecloses all over the place. Tried reinstalling the rom and go errors, tried a different rom and got errors. So I ODINed the Voodoo RFS fix, followed by stock+Voodoo-Froyo-T959-UVJL5.tar , and didn't get anywhere.
I thought there might have been something wrong with the data on the phone so i tried clearing and formatting everything through Clockwork recovery. Then I tried the partition SD Card through clockwork recovery. I assumed it was the EXT-SD it was formatting so i chose 128mb ext, 32 swap, and left the rest for fat32. However, I'm starting to think it might have been the internal SD card.
I tried ODINing back to stock stock using this guide: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/h...droidSPIN+|+Your+No.1+source+for+Android+news.)
I get the phone in ODIN and it flashes, no errors in ODIN, but when the phone leaves download mode and goes to installation it gives a few errors:
Code:
MBR Checksum Error
Movinand Checksum Confirmation Fail
Then it continues installing, and I get another error:
Code:
Wiping data
Formatting Data
[B]Data Wipe Fail[/B]
Formatting Cache
It still acts like it completely finishes the installation, reboots, I get the Tmobile boot and then Galaxy S, and then I get a black screen with all 4 of the lights/buttons on the bottom of the screen on. It can sit like this for 30 minutes, it doesn't do anything.
I still have access to download mode, and I still have access to recovery, however it's no longer ClockworkMod recovery, it's the stock recovery, and it seems to only work for a few moments before going to a triangle with an exclamation point and the android logo.
Any ideas on what I can do to make this phone functional again, or acceptable for a warranty return?
I appreciate any help.

Yes welcome to the club!!! glad you could join us!
Anyways here is what I have learned/done, my only working rom currently is the eugene froyo, can use the phone and data BUT cant download anything or install anything. You can adb push apks into the rom though. Heres the link for it
Use Odin, pit=512, pda=eugene..tar Run this to get semi working rom
http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=3
Once here I have access to my Sd card, this is where I placed the clockwork recovery on as an "update.zip" Link to this is posted below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734164
Boot into recovery, note this will take you to stock recovery. REINSTALL update, may have to do this twice but itll get you to the Clockwork recovery....
After this I tried to install two different roms and both times I get some sort of data error, and installation aborted....hopefully this will help a few people
Yeah a bit more google searching for "vibrant mbr checksum" brought me to the same conclusion, that I needed to ODIN the eugene's froyo - it's flashing right now. Will see where that gets me.
It's my belief that using the SD partition in CWM is what caused the MBR issues and the Data Wipe Fail, as others said they messed with a partition in either CWM or something else prior to this happening
And that's a no go. It just reboots back into the stock recovery every time after odining it, with some new errors.
update media. please wait.

I take it back - i did the wrong one apparently.
Had to use the files located on the link you sent, inside of the Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.zip file. Apparently there are a few different download files on the first post of that link. This one took longer than all the others I'd tried ODINing, about 5-6 minutes, compared to 2-3 for the others. I had also updated my Odin3 to v1.7, from the v1.3 I was using before.
When it booted up, it gave me an issue with my external SD card, said it was formatted incorrectly, so i formatted it from the phone - it says I have 13gb memory and 1.86 on the ext-SD.
Was able to download and install ROM manager from the market. Attempting to install Nero v3 now.
*** SOLVED ***
I've succesfully installed a rom other than Eugene's froyo, and did not receive any installation errors! Got Nero V3 up and running, very happy.
Note that the MBR checksum error still appeared but did not affect installation at all. Thanks everyone for their help - hopefully this helps the others.

Some Assistance Installing CM7

Hey everyone, I would like some help from some of you and any input would be greatly appreciated
Im currently running a froyo rom 2.2.1 toxic 7 and it is a port of a i9000 rom so my phone is listed as i9000 in the settings. I tried installing cyanogen 7 the nightly build and one of the release candidates but i got a status 7 error on both of them
a quick google search tells me that because my phone is in i9000, it wont install so i was wondering if anyone had an idea of what to do? I tried installing cmenards overstock kernel but once I chose it from the install zip from sd, my screen was stuck on "Installing Update..." so after 30 minutes, I did a battery pull and it still booted into my regular rom.
So my question is, how could I get my phone to cyanogen 7? and if I have to go back to stock, how would I go abouts to getting cm7.
I would like to thank you in advance for reading this and any help is greatly appreciated
either odin back to stock or try to flash a vibrant boot gingerbread bootloader and then flash
Yea, like the guy above me said, odin to stock and then follow cm7 op instructions.... i always odin to stock before installing any roms, unless i happen to be on a rom that is a step in the ops instructions for flashing.
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
odin to stock, copy the update.zip i've attached to your internal sd use it to flash the CM7 CWR.
Factory Reset
Mounts menu ---> Format System
Advanced menu ----> Wipe Dalvik cache
Flash CM7
Fix Permissions
Reboot enjoy.

[Q] Can't Install Roms - Phone is poorly.

I shall try to explain the situation best I can.
A long time back, I rooted my S2, then I thought I would sell it, so I wanted to put it back to stock and unroot, which I did.
Now months later, I decided to root the phone once again and put another rom on.
To cut a long story short, currently my phone wont accept any roms of any kind.
If I install CM7, MIUI, Sensation Rom, all of them seem to install a kernel as well, which causes the phone to panic upon boot. Which puzzles me, because if they are made for the S2, then why are they causing problems with my phone?
The only kernel that works for me so far is CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4. This allows me to access the internal SD via usb and put on roms. But I can't install them. As every time I do, I just either get a kernel panic or a black screen. I even used this guide, which should be foolproof and all I get is a black screen.
My phone has been in this useless state for 24 hours now and I've googled until I feel asleep at the keyboard.
Im hoping someone can seriously help me with this, as I don't pretend to know what I'm doing.
I was on ICS before this happened.
If you want your phone back then use the method in cnet to get it working again
and about the roms issue, did you factory reset and full wipe your phone before installing a rom?
I reset and wiped everytime. If I follow the cnet instructions to the letter, it just hangs on the Galaxy S2 logo when you turn on the phone and doesn't go any further. The only solution is to put on the kernel I mentioned above to get access to the SD card on my pc.
I now have managed to get CM7 RC working, but that's not the one I wanted. I wanted to use the Sensation rom, but that installs its own kernel which my phone, for some odd reason, doesn't like.
My phone details now are:
CM Mod 7.2 RC1
Kernel 2.6.35.14-g68ea119
[email protected] #1
1.Boot into recovery
2.Full wipe
3.Wipe cache
4.Advanced->Wipe dalvik cache
5.Install sensation rom zip only
6.Reboot
7.Wait for 5 mins
I followed your instructions precisely. I then installed SensatioN_ROM_3.0_ICS_i9100.zip from this thread
It installed, installed a kernel, flashed modem and said done. I then rebooted and waited.
It comes up with the S2 logo with the triangle, fine but now It just shows a battery symbol with a circle in the middle. After a while it goes to black and then comes back. Like its rebooting over and over.
I unplugged the usb cable and instead of the batter I just get the logo with the triangle. That stays there for a while, goes to black and comes back. Over and over.
I can't even get to recovery. Only thing I can do now is go into download mode and start over, put on the kernel I know that works, install CM7 RC1 and then at least I have a phone. But why sensation rom doesn't work is a mystery to me.

Don't install anything else
Repeat the steps without any modem or anything
Any try to redownload the zip
How do I stop the install of the modem? The thread only shows one zip file and if I install that in recovery, it installs everything. I can't chose what parts to install. Do I have the wrong zip?

Just install this zip by the method above
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bzv8B0L32Z8lZ2hSanUtVHpSb0tFUlhkRVQ1RFhEUQ
Nothing else
While it downloads from google, I just want to clarify.
Wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. Then I go to install zip from sd. Find SensatioN_ROM_3.0_ICS_i9100.zip, then it installs. But the last time I did this, it scrolls up saying it was installing file system, then flashing kernel, then flashing modem.
Am I doing something wrong here?
And that google link is slow as hell, quoting me 7 hours to download it. Got it from hotfile instead, going to try that one.

Yes it should work like that if you have a i9100
Done exactly as you said. I downloaded it from the hotfile link instead and installed it.
Came up with the same thing.
Cleaning Old System files
Installing System
Data Files
Symlinks
Flashing Kernel
Flashing Modem
Ready
Then I reboot and the same looping over and over. Can't access recovery. Only solution is using odin to flash the kernel I used before and be forces to use CM7 since nothing else works.
It's so confusing as Im using the same hardware as everyone else on the sensation rom thread, but it wont work for me. at all.
you sure you have i9100?
GT-I9100
I'm totally puzzled. MIUI doesnt work, Sensation doesnt work and stops me from using recovery. The only thing that works is kernel CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4.tar then install CM7 RC1 which upgrades the recovery to version 5 and the phone works. But only on CM7. If I try to install any other rom, it dies a death.

No, I only flash that when the rom seems to corrupt it. Like when installing sensation. The only way I can access the SD card to put on another rom is to install that kernel.

ok lets try again........
1: forget everything [ideas you have.]
2: go into clockwork recovery
3: format every partition including system / boot [remove your sdcard before starting]
4: use odin and flash stock 2.3.6 LA2 [u can flash whatever you like] and let it boot.
5: now use cf-root and root your device [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 ]
6: i assume you know your way from here.
note: its very important to format system / boot partions
if yo dont have cwm or you want to try from scratch heres the latest cwm
http://www.mediafire.com/?wkki6xahfhb3bim
Thanks for info. Just to clarify, the cf-root link contains loads of different ones. How do I properly know which one to use or doesn't it matter? And as for the stock 2.3.6 LA2, again, where do I find that? Reason I ask dumb questions is I don't want to assume and try the wrong one and come back here and complain when it was my fault, I just want to be 100% sure, so again sorry for the obvious questions.
I flashed I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME then CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.
It seems to be working fine now with the default rom. However, when I go into recovery to say perform a backup or mount the sd card, It won't have any of it.
When I try to mount the sd card it just says "error mounting sd card" and when I mount usb storage it says "unable to open lunfile (no such file or directory)". So I don't want to try another rom yet.

lol when i said or what you want i meant from GB you flashed a ICS ROM. well do this and this time just do what i say......
use odin again and flash XILA2 . after boot dial *2767*3855# [a must]
after reboot you should be running a problem free ROM.
now from CF-root find LA2 and flash that now play with it a while and than you do whatever as now you know where and how to get back to working ROM.
plus after LA2 you will find everything on your phone works so any problem you get on other roms is not hardware
recovery issues should be fixed now. otherwise use odin and again flash that cwm file i posted earlier. you wont loose root
Download ROM from Here

please help! BOOTLOOP Problem with CyanogenMod

Hey Folks,
Yesterday i tried installing CM9 Nightly on my SGS2 (no root). I followed the "Full Update Guide at the CyanogenMod-Forum but ended up with the bootloop problem even though i precisly followed the steps here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide
Now my s2 wont boot and is showing the yellow triangle. I can get into Recovery Mode which shows "CWMR Touch v.5.5.0.4.".
i downloaded the latest nightly build but when i tried flashing CM9 as described i got an error message "verification failed".
any help is appreciated!
hi
try putting the phone in odin mode and install another rom
Factory reset first when you have bootloop.
no need to worry.
get the nightly again dont use the torrent. it should be 118 mb.
using cwm format system, data, preboot, cache.
now flash again. you should have the file on ur ext sdcard already.
If worst comes to worst then download a offical samsung firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 or from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 if carrier branded phone then open odin and flash the files within download mode. If you don't know how to use odin then follow the guide within the first link
How come there will be a boot loop if everything is followed precisely?
You can try flashing the same again

Bro just remember that you must never flash a rom from within CWM or Rom Manager with our sgs2. I also did that and had same issue. Now, you can get into recovery mode and that is awesome. First things first, wipe everything, full system wipe, full wipe cache, full wipe sd card(format), next, attach your sgs2 to your pc and mount usb storage, transfer your chosen rom to sd card(I use Hydrogenics which is awesome). Next, unmount sd card, now flash hydrogenics. Now reboot system once hydrogen is finished flashing. You should never have issues like this again, especially with Hydrogenics. Also, do not forget to put gapps ics on sd card and flash it after you have flashed Hydrogenics. You can also use yellow triangle away app to remove the stupid leftover triangle from your previous rom flashing attempts, if you got LPB. Anyways bro, have fun and do not stress too much because the sgs2 is really hard to brick. Also, remember to check the md5 sum when downloading a rom, this lets you know it has not been tampered with and the entire rom is there.

I have followed install instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
Installed hacksung ics 1 no problems. Go back into recovery, triple wipe, and try to install hellybean. It boots into devil touch recovery 6.0.2.7. and from here I get the same error above even after triple wipe, fix permissions, format /system, replaced sd card (started install all over again from stock), multiple downloads of hellybean, all of which is to no avail. Anyone have any other suggestions of how to fix??
sd card is 16 GB class 10.
I would post this under development for hellybean where other users have had similar issue but nobody has given a new response and I am not allowed to post in that thread because I'm a noob.

well just make sure you are following section 4 to the "T"
Step 3: Power off phone and pull battery.
Step 4: Open odin on your computer.
Step 5: Plug in factory usb cable and hold the volume down button. Yellow
triangle should appear saying "download mode".
Step 6: Click on PDA in odin and find the stock EH03 rom you downloaded to your computer in step 1.
Step 7: Click on PIT in Odin and select the atlas 2.2 pit you downloaded in step 1(make sure repartition is checked).
that is a combined step before proceeding

You are currently now on ICS Team Hacksung build 1 or 2 . Continue following instructions below for upgrading to a custom ICS or JellyBean rom
Step 19: Download one of the roms below to the root of your sd card.
Step 20: Download latest GAPPS package to root of sd card
Step 21: Reboot recovery via the power menu.
Step 22: Wipe Data/Factory reset and Install .zip from sd that you downloaded in step 19. Then Install gapps zip from sd that you downloaded in step 20 and reboot.
I had to do step 22 --3 times --- 1st time gives you a warning,,, 2nd time appears to install but on reboot takes you back to new updated recovery menu,,, 3rd reflash zip one more time, reboot ,,, good to go
.
Update: tried to install CM 10.1 nightly with same result, tried installing from stock, then tried intalling from HSM-1 and both times got the same set_perm (status 7) error.
I also noticed that after failed installation attempts the sd card has bad sectors on it (from chkdsk). So I do a reformat and fresh copy of ROMS and still get back to same error. I am 95% sure its not an sd card issue because as I said before this is the second card I am using on this phone with the same result
HSM-1 installs from CWM 5.5.0.2 and as far as I can tell this is the only recovery that actually allows me to install a ROM on this phone. Does anyone have a link for a CWM 5.5.0.2 that I could flash from ODIN??

what class is your sdcard? it's recommended to use a class 6+ sd card. this may be causing your error. but if recommend flashing back to stock and try ths b2.

When you say 2nd time it appears to install do you mean it actually takes a bit of time and shows a progress bar? Because after 2nd try it gets into recovery 6.0.2.7 and if I triple wipe from there I just get the same status 7 error.

what class is your sdcard? it's recommended to use a class 6+ sd card. this may be causing your error. but if recommend flashing back to stock and try ths b2.

once you boot into recovery the second time, try not wiping and just install. see if that fixes it

Another weekend of testing and still same result. I have managed to get aokp ICS on with devil kernal. Is jellybean significantly better than ICS, or put another way, is jellybean going to be worth the headache its causing?

i think jelly bean is a lot better than ICS, but when i got this fascinate ics was already out, so i didn't have to much problems with it. i do like the three button press to enter recovery.

which exact version / file of aokp ICS are you on now?
Like ztotherad said,, I also feel jellybean is a lot better than ICS and worth any effort needed to get up and running
.................
could you explain exactly which step you got to,,, It sounds like maybe you did not get the Team Hacksung build 1 or 2 installed from steps Step 17 and 18
that is a crucial part of the process..
I found for me to print out the instructions and physically cross off the steps as I went along (way back in the day) when I was having issues and sure enough I was missing part of a step I thought I was doing...
also don't try to do anything extra with clearing/rebooting/wiping that is not listed
or
either that or Step 6 and 7 were botched up,,, ,,,,or Step 13 missed, although quite a few are up and running with-out the GB bootloaders...
or

remember "also don't try to do anything extra with clearing/rebooting/wiping that is not listed"" IE: into recovery 6.0.2.7 and if I triple wipe from there ... dont do that
Just
do step 22 --3 times --- 1st time gives you a warning,,, 2nd time appears to install but on reboot takes you back to new updated recovery menu,,, 3rd reflash zip one more time, reboot ,,, good to go,,, ,,, back into recovery and then on to flash gapps
meaning once you boot into the new recovery,, you still need to flash the install 2 more times then reboot and wait
.

OMG it worked !! I got fresh downloads and followed instructions and before I had tried it but everytime I would factory reset I would wipe cache (not davlik) literally only did factory reset and installed. First time got the warning, second time got my status 7 error and was worried. Went ahead and insalled rom again, it went through, installed again, reboot and I am now in CM 10.1.
THANKS!
Do you think I should mention to the OP of the instructions to make this more explicit because I have seen other users with my same issue...
