I'm new + Broken Links + Lock Pattern - Motorola Droid X2

This is my first post on xda and this is actually sorta my first android phone.
I was able to flash the rom to CynogenMod10 but I found it way too unstable. Now I am sitting on a rooted but official 3.5.
I'm interested in trying out some other roms eventually, but I'm not in a big hurry, for now I want to just use it's stock rom.
But when I do get around to trying to tweak it again, there are some important files I can't get to.
Most importantly I think is the Patched Boot Strap Recovery for CynogenMod7DX2 which is referred to in many of the custom rom tutorials. But also the GoogleApps zips are missing. I was able to find a ton of google apps downloads although I think the one for Cynogen 7.2.0 is missing. Which is the one I really think I want.
I barely have any experience with my phone, but I would say that the thing I miss most from CM10 is the way the lock screen pattern worked.
That is:
a) The lock screen pattern only gives me 3x3 instead of many choices, I just want 4x4.
b) I have to wait 1 minute for my screen to lock, instead of it locking instantly when I tap the power button.
c) When I go to unlock my phone I have to slide to unlock, followed by the pattern, instead of just the pattern.
All really minor stuff, but added together it meant a lot to me.
Besides that, since I'm so new I really don't know much of what I'm missing. I actually have another phone (Samsung Galaxy Stellar) that is running stock jelly bean but it doesn't work on my network.

Nonroot customization possibilities?

Hey, I am big into making things completely custom - especially when it comes to my phone. But my impatient self didn't follow up with enough research on "rooting" - essentially leading me to flash the 2.1 leak (seemed a lot simpler/less risky than rooting except I didn't know the endless customization possibilities that came with root)
So now I am stuck with a 2.1 leaked Eris and I see all of these AWESOME ROMS on here. Yet all I can do is look
So my question is, Are there other ways to customize things such as lockscreen, bootscreen, icons/icon names, etc without being rooted?? Any type of customization program or application you guys have would be awesome. Post them here!!

Oh ok cool. I had a friend willing to trade his Motorola Droid for my Droid Eris today....I said no simply because I'm not so sure I would like the Moto Droid....What do you think? Have you had any experience with it?

You can get a new lock screen in the market, I have lock 2.0. It's a iPhone style lock, slides from left to right, and you can customize the font and color of the text on it as well. I flashed 2.1 leak too, I can't wait for root either but I'm having fun with 2.1 in the mean time. Check out helixlauncher in the market too, if you want more customization.

Q&A..ICS Seraphim--First Flight--Troposhere!!!!!! The Collective

Since its new and will need the Dev thread for bugs and other stuff. thought i would post this.
anyone got it downloaded?
maybe post some Screens?
Sorry still kinda newbish with this question, so apologies if it doesn't make sense:
Does flashing this through CWM update the bootloader/modem that will make this not reversible to one of the GB ROMs? I've got nandroid backups of Stock(+overclock kernel), Saurom, and DAGr8's multi-dpi ICS alpha 2 leak, and I can freely restore them and go back and forth.
If I flash this new one, will that change something on the bootloader level or change my AT&T modem that will somehow mess stuff up and prevent me from switching between those other ROMs? Or will it work fine with all of that?
Thanks
You can still flash to a GB rom
Downloading as we speak

Im downloading as well......it keeps getting interupted though
may take me all day to this downloaded
WOW
this is AWESOME! Thank you Collective!!!
what is different about this rom than the base, or the alpha 2 from dagr8? I see that there's the collective tools, but what options are in there? The feature list they have on the main post is hardly descriptive of anything.

Quick question...
Getting into recovery mode... hold vol up AND down, while powering on? Cause I seem to remember trying it once, to see if it would work.. Got some green lettering (didn't read it at the time)... then I believe I just touched the home button, to bypass it... or try to bypass it. Now, I cannot get it to work.
The only thing I've done to my phone is root it, using one of the first roots available... (sorry, I forget the user... same guy who has the overclock root)
Now, I'd like to upgrade to this new ROM, and wonder if I can just upgrade it over the rooted kernal I have now....
I have tried looking around for the answer, and cannot find the exact answer.. So, I figure I'd ask, instead of just guessing...
Thanks

is there any mod for onscreen buttons like the Galaxy Nexus?
Setting everything up now. looks good guys. seems smooth.
time to play with it and see what i find.
thanks Collective.
Coming from Saurom R7.1 GB
So far I've noticed
+Samsung splash screen is nice. Very professional touch
+overall seems smooth and fast.
+Seems very clean and ready for tweaking.
-can't change lockscreen wallpaper.
txwallpaperchooser crashes if it's used to change home or lockscreen wallpaper. And it's the only option when changing the lockscreen.
No 'gallery' Did quickpic replace this?
No splanner -guessing it's not ICS compatible
How do you change device name?
Any FAQ on the Collective Tools? Looks like some neat and dangerous stuff.
Got it flashed looks good. Just low system memory but that seems to be with all the ics Rom

Thanks, over looked that.
How do you patch is this from cwm?
Flash the zip... Its the gallery3D.apk so you could just extract it, paste it in /system/app and then reboot.
But the zip itself is flashable.
Also, op thanks for starting the thread. I slept in a bit this morning

From a powered off state, hold all 3 buttons (both volume and power) the when you feel a vibrate let off the power button keeping bug volumes held.
Now, if you have cwm installed, yes you can just wipe and flash the ROM... If you still have stock recovery you'll need to Intel cwm first.
Id beware I flashed it my speeds are now 515kbs And I had a nandroid and it won't restore the md5 sum

[Q] Boot speed for your rom (Particularly peetr_'s)

I'm just curious what type of boot speed people are getting from their roms.
See I used a CM7 based rom for a long while, and it got great (re)boot speed, but I switched to peetr_'s for more stability (specifically the camera)
However, (these are not exact) his rom seems to take around 2 minutes to boot, its a bit frustrating, though not hugely, I'm just curious if something is wrong with my setup or maybe the files.
Feel free to post your boot speeds for any other roms too, just in case anyone has this question later.

What type of mods are we talking about? If its like the ics theme flashed to peetrs rom, then yes (just today I might add so it can have nothing to do with the speed) other than that, nope.

Each stock based rom booting time is related to the number of installed apps. There is a feature, that checks all apps for libraries and maybe something else. I haven't found, how to turn off this feature.
Thanks for that info peetr, that would make perfect sense (I used a flash with no additional apps for about a day, the difference was quite clear)

Mine takes about a minute to get to the lock screen then an additional 10-15sec for rest of OS/launcher to load fully. I have Planter's ICS theme on top of Peetr_s v20 rom along with the bravia engine, beats audio, and holo locker installed. I also have about 50-60 apps installed but am not quite sure which ones need to be loaded in any way during start up. The bone stock v20 rom was much quicker though.

One question off the topic. you have mentioned that u have holo locker also installed do you have the issue of getting two lockscreens (i.e after unlocking the holo locker the default locker shows up) ?
My boot time is 35 seconds. Couldn't be prouder. This is JB 4.1.2 with a ton of apps/games. It's not meant to be optimized. It's just good. The other phone is my wife's, unmodified Electrify. Boots in 1 minute 54 seconds. This is the superior performance Motorola says is better than ICS. Because 2 minute boot times are cool, haha. (Actually 2 minutes ain't bad, they never need to be rebooted... 35 seconds is just so much better.)

when i first boot my phone it doesnt show up unless i let it sit at the lock screen for about 10 seconds. i'd imagine that this happens because it is in fact an app that needs to load before it will override the stock lock screen. now on the other hand if i have a security pattern that i am using to unlock the phone, the security screen THEN the holo locker would show up everytime. i simply disable my security pattern unless i'm going out for the night or something.

[Q] The Base Rom

not sure if this is in the right spot but i cant post it on the thread for the rom yet since i dont have enough posts...anyways i hope this is somethin easy enough for the devs. i love the rom given me my best battery life so far with no issues (currently on 0.7 cant wait for more updates and options) but one thing i miss about my previous rom (paranoidandroid for an att skyrocket) is that the labels were optional on the icons on the home screen. just gives the home screen a cleaner look i think. i'm sure some people prefer the labels, but i dont keep a lot of icons on my screen so i like to keep it clean

You could always put on a launcher like nova or apex. Both of those will remove labels if you wish it.

I've Rooted my HTC One - Now what?

I've successfully unlocked my bootloader, flashed recovery and rooted my One using Superuser. It was pretty difficult and confusing to be honest. I got Titanium Back-up and froze all those stupid bloatware apps.
Now what can I do? I see there are two pretty good roms over here in the forums, but I'm not sure if I should grab one of those or wait for other better ones? Is there a "best" rom? Anything else I can do while waiting?

My advice? Take some time and just enjoy the phone. Its too soon for there to be
much going on in terms of ROMs and MODs. But they will come...
I generally get rid of the stock ROM on a new phone as soon as possible...but I have been
impressed with Sense 5 so far...gonna rock it for a while I think.
Check out the TrickDroid rom in the international HTC One forum. I've got that on my AT&T One, and it's amazing.

One app I consider a must have for rooted devices is adblock plus. Get it and enjoy a faster, cleaner, and less data intensive internet experience. Just be aware that it's no longer part of the play store, and you'll have to sideload it.

I've rooted devices before, but never installed a custom rom. Might be fun to give it a try.
However, just to make sure I won't do anything wrong...I replaced my recovery with TWRP when I first rooted.
I'm thinking I add the .zip rom to my root directory, make a backup with TWRP, backup my apps with titanium backup, then just flash the rom and restore my apps? Is it that simple?
Also, should I wipe the dalvik in addition to the regular data?

Actually the list of improvements and added features in TrickDroid (and several other 1.29 based International ROMs) compared to the stock ROM is quite large, which very easily justifies the reason for bootloader unlocking/rooting your phone. Some of these improvements/mods are available over here in the AT&T dev section, and some are only available in International based ROMs (for now anyway)
Newer firmware than the AT&T base (1.29 compared to 1.26)
Supposedly the camera software in 1.29 is considerably better with things like improved processing for pictures; I haven't verified this for myself
That stupid permanent power saving toggle in the notification pulldown menu has been removed (replaced by a much nicer and smaller status bar toggle button)
The only-useful-maybe-one-time-but-is-always-there IME icon that pops up in the task bar (when the keyboard is being used) has been removed
For people that use Sense as their launcher, there are options to change the icon grid in the drawer to 4x5 / 5x6 instead of the screen wasting 3x4 default
There are very nice looking scrollable color toggle buttons in the pulldown menu for the normal things like wifi, bluetooth, GPS, flashlight, switching between silent mode & normal mode, etc. The toggles can be long-pressed to go directly into the options related to the function of that toggle
The stock messaging app has more options (custom background, colors for the conversation bubbles)
HTC has lowered the overall "boomsound" volume in 1.29 a bit, presumably to correct the popping sounds that people have experienced on earlier firmware builds including the AT&T 1.26 build. In my opinion, even with this lower volume, the phone is plenty loud and the speakers are still louder than my Galaxy S3. There are still ways to increase your volume back up again if you really need it (for example, the faux123 kernel has "faux sound" that can pump up the volume, among other audio tweaks)
There is a brightness mod available to lower the really high default automatic brightness settings a bit, to increase battery life
There is a mod available to temporarily turn on the display when an SMS message is received if the phone's display is off
There is a mod available to wake up the phone with the volume buttons (in addition to the power button of course)
There is a no-pin Exchange mod available for the stock email client that overrides the need for a pin # when connected to a corporate Exchange email system that requires phone security
There is a stock-based kernel available as a choice during the installation that maps the HTC logo as a menu key. Actually I think it really just maps a touch point on the display immediately above the HTC logo, but it is very close to the logo and actually works.
There is a mod available to remove the stupid 3-dot button in apps that still use a menu key. Obviously you would only want to use this mod when you've got something mapped as a menu button (either the back key long-press option or the HTC logo mapping mentioned previously)

Thanks for you post. My HTC One is on its way, and this is the ROM I plan to flash. Can you please elaborate on this last part?
Are you saying that there is a place on the settings menu to select a custom mapping for the menu button? and THEN you flash the mod? Doesn't that sound backwards? Wouldn't one flash the mod which would give you the option of a custom menu button mapping somewhere in the settings menu?
just be patience
it's take times to build a better rom for new device.maybe 3-4month.we can get perfect rom

I heard there's a mod to use the logo as a button. I would turn that into a MENU button.
