Hi all. I've just ordered a One through ATT, PN07120. I've been reading around this forum for a week or so before deciding on the One and there's still a few things I'm uncertain about.
#1 Is there any difference as to root and s-off methods between the ATT model and the International?
#2 Are the ROMs and firmwares in the HTC One forum compatible with this device?
#3 Which is the currently preferred method of s-off, rumrunner or revone? Or does that all depend on what hboot my phone ships with?
Thanks for any advise.

Well, root and s-off are two complete different things.
If you get s-off you would be able to install most rims if it all .
It really depends on your hboot but preferable rumrunner.
Check this guide... It give all the steps to get it successfully to the s-off point

Thanks for the link TopoX. For my other questions, I understand root and s-off. I guess I should have just asked if, for all intents and purposes, the ATT model and the International model are the same.

yes the steps and software are the same
I have AT&T phone and have flashed many of the international roms without any problems. ViperOne - InsertCoin - ARHD - MaximusHD all work fine.
unlock bootloader @ htcdev.com
flash custom recovery (TWRP)
Flash SuperSU (Root)(this step is actually optional as most roms will include root)
Flash custom rom
Enjoy you new phone !!!

Hi. Why do you want to s-off your device? If you unlocked it through htcdev.com you don't need to s-off and can install custom recovery and root it using quickroot 1.1.3. Mine for example rooted+custom ROM without s-off.
I've been said that we MUST S-OFF or else we would face bootloop or brick situation !!! Is that true? Please provide me the link where I can continue further with rooting, recovery and custom Rom installation. curretly I've only unlocked via htcdev.

Bootloop and brick doesn't depend on s-off. It depends on head and hands (and may be luck a bit). Here is the link for rooting your device (quickroot 1.1.3). It perfectly roots almost ANY HTC device. There is an explanation, so read carefuly!!! After installation you'll free to use any app that requires root. And try to install custom recoveries from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775840 and from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413915. Detailed instructions can be found in the corresponding threads. After you install custom recovery download custom ROM for your device and flash it through recovery. Good luck with flashing .

Hi,
What I did was downgrade back to GB by flashing the stock ROM which shipped with the Flyer this can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062184
In my case it was RUU_Flyer_BrightstarUS_WWE_2.27.1540.31_R_Radio_20.3504.30.089BU_3809.07.04.06_M_release_204116_signed
Make sure that your Device is locked/re-locked before flashing the RUU
After which my Hboot was returned to 1.11.003, I then used revolutionary to gain S-Off.

You talking about this thread mentioned above?
Its got nothing to do with your number of posts. Looks like the links were dead, so the thread was placed in the trash.
If you look around on other threads, someone may have uploaded a mirror for the RUU you are looking for, or you may have to Google around.

unlock your bootloader using hasoon aio kit here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493905
relock your bootloader again.
format you externel sd card.
download a different copy of PH85IMG.
you know the rest..
so i format the sdcard after i relock thebootloader? because it wont let me into recovery once my bootloader is locked the only place it allows me to go is inside the bootloader

No,formatting the sd card is a different issue, its for clear all the possible bad sectors and files....put your PH85IMG file after formatting the sd card...and you do not need recovery while you returning to stock...right

you do not need recovery to flash a stock ROM,because the fastboot automatically detects your PH85IMG from your ext sd card.

relock the bootloader then flash your ruu once it's done flash the jbear hboot (or else you'll have trouble flashing the recovery) plus since you already have an ics firmware why are you messing your phone up :S just flash some rom and enjoy it? you keep flashing stuff more than using your phone as a phone :/
I unlocked and installed cm 10 before I s-off. Could not run s-off successfully without stock.
So... I asked similar questions a month or so back about Telus.
I can't successfully rollback to the gb ruu or the ics ruu. The ics ruu is an ota which appears to need an gb install.
Pure stock tmous ruu check for tmous cid and fails when it finds the Telus cid.
Finally installed arhd 4 and s-off tool ran without error. I could then flash radio and hboot

ARHD4 is short for Android Revolution HD version 4 which has recently been updated to version 5. It's a ROM that's very close to stock T-Mobile OTA from March of 2013, it's deodexed, with minor tweaks and slight debloating, and addons which are done through the Aroma installer. It can be found in the dev section of this board.

I don't believe you can s-off with any non-stock ROM (though I may be mistaken). I think you need to be on the latest factory image from your carrier before you can run the s-off hack or it won't work. Reread through the instructions carefully and I think you'll find what I'm saying is correct.

ARHD won't help you for several reasons. First, it isn't a stock ROM, it's been rooted, deodexed, and some apps removed from stock. Second, it's based on a T-Mobile ruu and you don't have the T-Mobile version of this handset. There are several threads which detail how you can get back to stock, please read them, use the search function, and do some research for yourself rather than spamming the board requesting help.

Reread my post. I didn't say you couldn't flash it, I said you couldn't attain s-off with it, because it isn't a stock ROM for your device. In order to attain s-off the CID of the ROM has to match the CID of your handset. The vast majority of ROMs for the Amaze are made from a T-Mobile base so they are incompatible for your purposes because of this mismatch. What about this fact do you not understand? There have been many threads written about this, and the solutions have been given to you by several folks here in the forum.
Regardless, please discontinue spamming the board, especially when you have been told how to resolve your issue. You were the one who didn't initially follow directions and are now stuck, not any of us. If you're incapable of following basic directions or searching for the answers yourself then you shouldn't be modding your phone in the first place.

I just went through this process and S-OFF is not enough, you also need to change your MID otherwise OTAs will fail. I will write something up soon on what I did to convert my ATT to International ROM.
Just got my One today, coming from an S-Off One X. Is getting S-Off deemed important on the One?
##Update##
Realized how easy it was to obtain S-Off compared to the HTC One X (which admittedly was pretty easy already) and went ahead and did it anyways
Honestly if you need to ask this type of question do not attempt it, just because its on here doesnt mean its a necessity...htc dev unlock the phone and flash a custom rom and be happy with that for now until youve read read and read some more....

I honestly don't know. Most times I have suggested it, it has worked. I was able to do it in any Verizon model I tried personally even when there is no SIM or service to the device. I would think it should work for other people if it worked without VZW service for me.

It's a little strange because we do not have that device, so likely none of us will have the files you need/want or are looking for.
Yet you have asked in just about every active thread in the Dna forums.
Looking in your devices forum, is going to provide you the best results, and asking over there as well.
None of us have Butterflies or files for them.
Try HERE: LINK
This is for Butterfly X920D
So be sure you are only flashing what's intended for your variant.
I have no idea if that's what you need or not, but it will certainly be closer then anything we have here.

How to root (with links) is explained on my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
Also, much of the "HTC specific" lingo is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52484527
I would suggest reading up (and making sure you understand all the terms and processes) for at least a couple hours before trying anything on the phone. I do this every time I buy a new device, even having own quite a few HTC phones. In fact, I usually start reading and researching before I have the phone in hand.

If your talking about ROM, then take a full backup of your ROM before flashing custom ROM using titanium/nandroid etc.
Or if your talking about root,
Just unroot using unroot apps from play store or the respected app you get after rooting.

As the above reply stated, it depends on what you are talking about.
If you just want the stock ROM, recovery, etc. one option is to relock the bootloader and just run the RUU. It will return you to stock software. The only thing not "stock" will be the bootloader will say RELOCKED instead of LOCKED. You need s-off to make it say LOCKED again (after unlocking it).
?

You can return to stock with a RELOCKED bootloader with s-on.
You do need s-off if you want to make the bootloader say LOCKED as it was from the factory. But the only reason to ever do this is for warranty purposes. And if you bought the phone from AT&T, you should note that your warranty is through AT&T, not HTC. And AT&T doesn't give a crap if the bootloader is unlocked, or whatever (folks have even successfully sent in phones for warranty with custom ROMs on them).
If you are seeing warranty service through HTC (you didn't purchase from AT&T) that is another story. But that is the only reason I'd bother going back to LOCKED.
In normal usage, I recommend leaving the bootloader UNLOCKED as it give you more flexibility to flash ROMs whenever you want, etc. The only reason IMO to relock the bootloader in normal usage is to run the RUU.
S-off is nice have if you want to flash radios, modified hboots, and some other things (you also don't need to relock to RUU with s-off). It certainly doesn't hurt, and some folks like to make the phone as customizable as possible right away. In fact, I did s-off to the phone the second day I had it (although s-off was free back then). But for you, its not strictly "needed" at this time unless you want to do the things mentioned.

The baseband isn't determined by the ROM, its determined by flashing a different baseband/radio (which requires s-off).
There are some folks that have had issues on AT&T's LTE network using some custom ROMs. Namely, not receiving or sending voice calls while on LTE. But this seems somewhat random, and not the ROMs fault per se; but probably changes that AT&T is making to their network. The most you can do is flash the Skydragon ROM, and if you have problems, try another ROM or revert to stock.
Make a backup of your stock ROM with TWRP before you flash anything, to be sure you have something to revert to if you have problems. This is good general advice before you flash any custom ROMs, root mods, etc.
I'm using the ROM your linked (Skydragon Sense 7) on AT&T, and it works fine for me.
