*see bottom of post for screens of these results
With the GN3's monster display, all the usable features, and the integration into our normal daily activities, I knew getting a FULL DAY unplugged would be the Holy Grail for this device. So I set out to find the settings, apps and tips that offered the most benefit of the device's features while still providing incredible battery life. These are based on a ROOTED, Verizon LTE, standard battery device (some settings are useful for Stock, non-Rooted devices as well)
ONCE a month I will run the battery down to <5% then charge it to 100% without interruption. The rest of the time I charge the battery when it reaches between 20-30%. With a ton of reading, THIS method seems to be the universal middle ground to keep your GN3 battery healthy, and get the most charges out of it.
Here's what I've found so far: feel free to add your input on what works for you!
Basic, Easy To Adjust Settings:
Display Brightness: 50-75% (Auto - Off)
This usually more than enough for normal use, and with most Custom Roms having a Brightness Quick Toggle, or a Brightness slider in the Notification Bar, it is very easy and quick to change this setting to watch videos or in bright light situations.
Turn Off GPS In Location Settings
Many of us use GPS regularly, but very few of us need it on 24/7. Believe it or not, GPS constantly correcting position, and constantly updating apps using location info takes a lot of power over the period of an entire day. Manually activating GPS is a quick toggle away when it is needed.
Turn Off SYNC In Google settings
Syncing a bazillion apps every 30 min or few hours adds up at the end of a full day! When I check my email, FaceBook, Twitter, Weather, Stocks, (you get the picture) I just sync THAT app. If I am doing a mass information check, I'll SYNC ALL, but I do it manually.
Most feel the need for email, FaceBook, Twitter updates to be instantaneous and constant. IF constant connectivity is your goal, and it is certainly your choice, just realize it won't come with great battery life. It's about balance. I believe my settings find a good middle ground between ALWAYS ON and ZERO FUNCTION.
Screen Timeout In Display Setting - Set To 30 Seconds
This one saves the power button AND battery, and it's self explanatory.
Power Saving Mode In Settings
Power Saving Mode give you the option to limit CPU performance, use lower power consumption in the display, and turning off haptic feedback (vibrate on key touch, etc) ALL which require additional power, reducing battery life. If you need one of these to be changed, easy access and toggling makes the change quick and simple.
Turn Off Wi-Fi Settings
For additional batt life, go to settings > wi-fi > soft menu key > advanced > uncheck Wi-Fi Notification & Always Allow Scanning. Some users report noticeable increase in batt life unchecking these settings.
Turn ON Smart Network (rom specific)
Turn on Smart Network in settings>more settings to aid in extending battery life. Simply put, Smart Network temporarily turns off the network after a period of non-use, and when your device screen is turned on again, it turns the network ON. This DOES NOT affect INCOMING calls, texts, or any INCOMING communications. It does take a second or two for the network to reconnect, but it is negligible and barely noticeable.
FREE Apps To Help Increase Battery Life:
GREENIFY - Play Store
This app basically gives you the ability to place apps that usually run in the background in a "Hibernate" state. When you click on the widget or the app to use it, it automatically "Wakes Up" and you have use of the app. After a period of inactivity that app places itself back into "Hibernation" until the next time you need it. Set up consists of downloading the app, highlighting the apps you do not want to constantly function in the background, and hitting the checkmark. UI for Gereenify is simple and very effective.
Better Battery Stats - Play Store
BBS gives you an overall view of what your battery is doing, what is using it the most, what is causing wake-locks and anything else going on with the battery. UI is fairly simple, knowing what to look for is probably the hardest part of using BBS. If an unknown app is keeping your device form going into DEEP SLEEP, you'll see it here. If an app is running your CPUs ragged, you'll see which CPU frequencies are being used and for how long.
Perfect System Monitor - Play Store
AS you can tell by the name, this app monitors most of your device's important system functions. The functions that can help you catch a battery hungry app are; CPU Frequency, Cpu Usage, Battery Voltage, Current Network Up and Download... If any app is acting a fool without you knowing it, or running in the background sending 150 other apps your Google stats sucking your battery life, this app will let you see in real time if something has your cpu pegged, your battery voltage pegged or your network active without you using it.
Extreme Battery Saving Measures:
Turn Off Notifications
Turn off NOTIFICATIONS from apps that frequently send notifications (Twitter, FaceBook, Instagram, etc.) When you open these apps they usually update themselves upon opening. Again, if staying in CONSTANT contact with every app is your goal, forget trying to save battery life
Turn Off Vibration
Self explanatory
Consolidate Widgets Into Folders
Individual WIDGETS each use a little power to connect themselves to the app they represent. When placed in FOLDERS, their individual "footprint" is reduced significantly as is the power required t display each widget. Instead of having 45 individual widgets on your home screen, consolidate similar widgets into FOLDERS. Creating a folder varies by Rom You can try long press on home screen, create or click FOLDER, name the FOLDER (optional), drag similar widgets into the folder.

Great advice bro. I got 1 day 17 hours and 4 hours screen on time and the only thing I turned off was the gps toggle and I greenify a lot of apps..smart network is always off, I never turn on power saving mode and display time is about the same as you as well as brightness. I'm going to try some of your advice and see how far I can go. Thanks great post.

Just thought it was worth mentioning that since our display is AMOLED a dark theme/background will also help reduce display battery drain. If a pixel is black the screen doesn't turn on that pixel. Mine (stock rooted MJE) doesn't have smart network either. I see the OP is running Bean/Baja/Eclipse ROM, so it may be a feature added for that ROM.
That aside, smart network looks interesting, but reminds me of Juicedefender back when I used it with my DInc. Can anyone confirm that push notifications (that work through data) actually work with it? If they do work, I'm would flash one of those ROMs right now.

@az_biker nice thread here bro. Guys the tips that az_biker has given everyone here is right on. We should all be able to get a full days use and not have to worry about charging through the day. I've been unplugging at 4am and streaming music all day over 3g in a factory and browsing forums and Web through the day and still have over half a battery at 8pm.

[SOLVED - See post 15] Another "Please help with battery drain!" thread...

I'm bone stock with just a handful of apps installed and nothing that should be killing my battery. I've got lots of screen shots here in hopes that someone will be able to tell me what's going on. At noon Eastern, I took the phone off the charger at 100%. Wifi was left on and I sat the phone down on my desk for about 2 hours. I then captured these screen shots.
BetterBatteryStats shows a pretty serious (I think) kernel wakelock.

After tapping on "suspend_backoff", this was displayed. What the hell is "suspend_backoff"?
Under Partial Wakelocks, this was displayed.
The built in power monitoring shows this.
And tapping on Android OS yields this screen. Clearly, something is keeping the thing from going to sleep.
Finally, this is from SystemPanel and it shows that during the 2-hour period, the CPU was consistently doing SOMETHING. Curiously, however, during the overnight there was virtually no drop in voltage while I slept. I turn off wifi and 3G when I go to sleep so I'm thinking there is something related to wifi that is keeping the cpu cranking.
Sorry for all the captures, but if anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!
What widgets do you have on your homescreens? Pretty sure "suspend backoff" is time the phone is not able to deep sleep so you definitely have something going on.

The only "active" ones I have are BatteryLife, BetterBatteryStats and Palmary Weather. I'll delete them one at a time and see if that allows it to sleep. Seeing as the inability to sleep appears to be tied to wifi, it could be Palmary Weather causing the problem, so I'll remove it first.
Thanks for the help!

I would try removing the batterylife widget first. Many battery widgets are known to cause sleep issues. But either way you can start narrowing down the culprit.
I was having that issue with the suspend backoff as well. What sort of widgets are you using, do you have any other battery monitoring apps? (EDIT: I see your newer posts above). I was wondering if the Bettery battery stats was keeping the phone awake. Because after I turned off all the battery monitoring apps/widgets I got better unplugged/screen time.
If it is a wifi issue, try turning the options of Wifi always on to allow wifi to sleep. (In wifi advance options).

I can attest to this. That battery widget keeps the phone awake because it takes 'mah' readings every ten minutes.
Using battery monitoring I went from a 67 to 41 battery life overnight. Last night I froze all the battery monitoring things and I went from a 67 to 64. (But I had some other tweaks as well).
I could be wrong, but I don't think it is either of the battery widgets, unless of course they use wifi for something. At night, with wifi off, the battery voltage stays virtually flat. If it were the batt widgets, wouldn't they continue to cause the voltage to drop?
I removed the weather widget and am letting it sit for an hour or so. I'll report back with the results.

I wish I had a screen shot to show you. But one of my battery widgets kept reported every ten minutes with the same voltage (flat) but the phone wasn't being allowed to go into deep sleep. Around -130mah. My deep sleep time overnight was like 8 minutes.
The widget/app I was using was "Battery Monitor Widget". It was definitely keeping my phone from going into a deep sleep. I froze it last night and my battery life stayed constant throughout the night.
You have to figure out why your phone isn't being allowed to go into deep sleep when the screen is off.
Are you using "SmartSync" on any e-mail accounts? I've read that it causes WakeLock in some cases (I think related to how it manages data connections in conjunction with sync frequency).
It has to be something causing the phone from going into a deep sleep. Do you have any eye-popping items from the 'alarms' and 'process' sections of better battery stats? I would check for wake counts more than actual time.

You might be on to something. Deep Sleep is zero.
From the op his alarm manager has a count of 743. Not sure if that could be attributing. If you believe wifi has something to do with it make sure you uncheck "best wifi performance" or whatever it is called under advanced wifi settings as that has caused wake locks on previous htc devices including the og evo.

There is also an option under the advance wifi options for keeping Wi-Fi on during sleep. I have mine checked to 'only when plugged in'.
But I don't think it would be the wifi that keeps the device from going to deep sleep. Something is either syncing or keeping it from going to sleep, hence the suspend_backoff. If it is something syncing you should check your alarm/process counts.
For me I know that the one battery widget was definitely keeping a wakelock.

We have a winner! This is definitely what was causing the problem. I deselected this option and the suspend_backoff item stopped growing. I left it deselected for a couple of hours just to make sure. As soon as I re-enabled it, the suspend_backoff quantity started climbing again. Thank you very much for your help and thanks for everyone else who shared their ideas. I truly love this place.
Instead of posting screen shots, post a BBS dump. It's in the menu. it contains all the info of the screen shots and more. Make sure you give BBS root permissions too, it'll gather more info (alarms and processes).

Steps to Better Battery Life

I've seen these throughout the forums and we are lacking one of our own!
This is how (i hope) you can get better battery life and what i use personally to get my phone to last through the day
1. If your not using it then turn it off! GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi
-Minus the screen these are the biggest battery killers and if you don't need them then turn it off
2.Auto brightness is not your friend. Use a set brightness to your liking below 50%
-I see people claiming it helps and truth is it doesn't, It enables an added sensor to monitor the amount of light outside and guess what? That kills your battery too. You're better off using a widget or some other method to change your brightness on the fly to avoid this
3.Data and Background syncing.
-If you can afford to turn your Data connection off when you're not using it i suggest getting into the habit! This can drastically improve your battery life. For those who can't i suggest adjusting your sync intervals so they aren't checking as often
4.Put Your Phone Down!
-Yes we can all agree your phone can be a fun toy to play with but if you need it to last then put it down! Stop checking it every five minutes just to look at the screen! you have notifications for a reason and your background isn't going look better if you keep looking at it
5. Live Wallpapers
-Live wallpapers are fun to show off especially to Iphone owners but it comes at a price, Show them what it can do then go back to your boring wallpaper to save battery
6.Rogue apps
-There are many apps in the market to help you find these silent battery killers. Find one and uninstall them.
Apps like Facebook also kill your battery horribly, Use the web page instead if you don't need to know what everyone is posting at every second
7.Turn off animations/Haptic feedback
-I personally don't do this but it has been proven that these features do kill your battery
8. Task killers
-This hasn't been a problem more recently but if this does apply, uninstall the dang thing and stop killing every app that pops up! If the app keeps running in the background then just uninstall it
9. Find the rom that suits your needs
-To each their own, find the rom that better suits your daily life. I agree Its awesome to run the cutting edge software on our phones but if you need your phone for daily use then maybe stock/debloated is what you need
10.Extended battery/carry a charger
-If the stock battery just doesn't cut it then it's probably time to invent in an extended battery, and if you're like me and that still doesn't cut it then carry a charger with you to give you and extra boost. When your on the side of the road with a dead phone because you had to run AOSP and it killed your battery you will wish you had this
Summary: In the end It's just fancy phone with an HD screen so it was inevitably a battery killer from the start so good luck
If you have anything to add (Apps or suggestions to help) then don't be afraid to speak up this is a community effort

You may be correct that it isn't very effective at saving battery, but I think that's only because it never dims far enough, compared to other devices I have where auto-brightness seems far more effective.
Also, I'm almost positive that turning off auto-brightness does not disable the light sensor. You can turn off auto-brightness and use a sensor probing app to verify that it is still indeed functioning.
Pretty much everything else makes sense to me. I have tons of widgets but most of them are simply information and don't really need to poll anything or use many resources most of the time.
Strangely enough, I've been really noticing my battery die quickly every once in awhile recently, and when I check it seems that Google Maps has been going crazy in the background and won't close.. very strange. A reboot usually solves the problem for a few days til it happens again.

I used to think that auto-brightness was killing my battery, but from doing some informal tests I actually found very little difference in battery life using 25-50% brightness versus auto-brightness. I'd be interested if other people have different experiences.
Actually I've noticed that Google Maps also keeps waking up my phone and using the GPS recently. What ROM are you on? I'm on Viper 1.0.3.

I think the tweaks on Newt's Rom has an option to change the scaling of the auto-brightness, meaning that you move the whole scale down so that it is dimmer at given light levels than stock. I'm not sure if it ever goes to full value though and that would disappoint me on sunny days.
In regards to the Facebook app, you can disable notifications and auto polling...

[APP] Optimus Nano Notification

As many of you have noticed, the notification light on the LGOG is annoyingly slow. In light of this, I sought out a solution. I've tried Light Flow, which worked well enough, but it wasn't quite what I wanted. I thought I was on to something with Tasker (awesome app!) and had something functional. Then I saw the great work from GermainZ here posted by TangoXray here and saw that it was possible to also include using the capacitive button backlights similar to BLN (back in the Samsung Captivate days). After a while of fiddling, I've come up with this Tasker-made app.
I designed it to be straight forward, yet have several options. It's a bit simpler to use than GermainZ's app, but is not as powerful or customize-able since it is designed specifically for the E970 (it may work with other devices, but I doubt it).

It requires:
1. Root Root is NO LONGER NEEDED!!!
2. Secure Settings (has a needed plug-in for Tasker and allows the screen to be woken up). The app will prompt for installation of this from the Play Store (it's FREE).
3. Accessibility enabled. The app has a button to quickly access it.
The options are:
1. LED on and off times (in milliseconds) are adjustable. However, it appears the system has a limit to how small of an off time is allowed.
Default: 1000 ms on and 100 ms off2. Notify duration (in seconds) for how long you want it to work before shutting off after a new notification. This way your lights aren't flashing for too long (this should be a battery saving measure if you suspect you might leave your beautiful phone alone for very long).
Default: 600 s (10 minutes if you needed help with the math )3. Screen On With Notify. When enabled, the screen will turn on momentarily (roughly 3 seconds) when a new notification arrives. I find this helpful so I can quickly look at the notification bar when the notification arrives without having to touch the phone.
Default: On4. Button Lights. When enabled, the button backlights will pulse at the rate specified with the LED on/off times.
Default: On5. LED Light. When enabled, the red notification light around the power button will pulse at the rate specified with the LED on/off times.
Default: On6. ONN Notification. When enabled, a notification will appear in the dropdown when you receive a new notification. This can be clicked to clear the light flashing, but still keep the message in the notification bar. This can also be set to permanent (until the notification is cleared). This is pretty much only useful if you "swipe" away your notifications. Since I haven't found a way to clear the light flashing from such an action, the lights will continue to flash until you open up one of the supported apps.
Default: On and On7. Clear On Unlock (Go Locker). When enabled, the ONN notification will clear and cancel the blinking when you unlock your phone. The app's notification that triggered the event will still be in your notifications. Now works with Go Locker (the only 3rd party lockscreen I've tried it with)! I assume that the stock lockscreen and Go Locker trigger in different ways. I hope to get it to work with other lockscreens.
Default: On (Go Locker Off)8. Clear On Screen On. When enabled the ONN notification will clear and cancel the blinking when the screen turns on. Even if you have the "Screen On With Notify" enabled, it will still keep the notification until you purposefully turn the screen on.
Default: On9. No Timeout While Charging. When enabled, the ONN notification and blinking will not timeout while your phone is charging. When you unplug, the timeout timer restarts.
Default: On10. Battery Level Cutoff %. When your battery is below this level, the ONN notification and blinking will cancel and no new notifications will trigger ONN.
Default: 20%11. Constant LEDs. When enabled, the lights do not blink, but rather stay on. This has the trade-off of not needing the app to use loops (helps with battery), but potentially uses more battery since the light is on more. More testing is needed to see if it hurts.
Default: Off12. No LED while Charging. Turns off the LED when charging so that the light is only used for notifications. The light will still turn on momentarily when you plug in the charger.
Default: On
There is also an option to test your settings. You just need to turn your screen off and then when you're done, click "stop". Be aware that the first time you use it, it may behave a little off until you grant root access. After this, it *should* work smoothly.
Right now, I have it set to trigger on notifications from:
Calendar
Email
Gmail
Google Voice
Messaging
Missed calls
Google Talk
Contacts +
K-9 Mail
WhatsApp
Line
To reset the notification, you can do one of the following:
Click on the notification
Click on the ONN notification in the dropdown (if enabled)
"Clear" the notification in the dropdown
Open one of the supported apps (you could open Gmail to clear a text, for instance)
Click the "Stop" button within the app (next to the "test" button)
Using #7 or #8 above
Other recommendations:
Inside the app SuperSU, you can set it to not show a "toast" notification each time. Otherwise, it gets a little annoying seeing "ONN has been granted superuser access" each time.
I have turned off the ONN Notification toggle so I don't get the extra icon in my notification bar (and so the new notification stays visible a little longer instead of the ONN Notification "scrolling" up.
Inside System Settings --> Display --> Notification Flash, turn off the "Use LED light for notifications". I'm not sure it would interfere, but I figure might as well leave it off so it doesn't cause issues.
When updating the app, if you encounter issues, clear the app data.
I will later try to add more features and spruce it up a bit. But for now, I think it's quite functional. Please let me know if there's anything not working or if something should be added. I'm new to app making with Tasker, so it's a bit of a learning experience. I have also attached the Tasker XML that I used to create the app in case anyone wants to use that or improve it.
Changelog:
v1.1
Fixed the Google Talk trigger
Added ability to clear notification by turning on the screen or unlocking the phone
Added no timeout while charging
Added auto-cancel when battery below user-specified value
Spruced up and modified the UI
Added "About" to the UI
v1.2
Fixed Messaging and Email clear (forgot to actually add these originally)
Added Go Locker unlock
Fixed lights getting stuck (prevented the task from disappearing when the screen is off)
Added support for Contacts + and K-9 Mail
v1.3
Added support for Line and WhatsApp
Added constant on for the LEDs toggle (instead of blinking)
-the red power LED will still pulse like it did for charging
Added "No LED while Charging" toggle so the LED is only used for notifications and not for charging.
-the light will still turn on momentarily and then turn off
Improved battery usage (hopefully).
-This *will* still use more battery than if you didn't use it since the lights are on longer than the stock notification interval
v1.3.1
Removed need for root (I no longer use the echo "255" script--instead, I saw that the max brightness for the button backlights is 3, so I could just use the Tasker function).
Two versions--one with the K9 Plugin (you will need to have K9 installed whether you want it or not), the other without the plugin so you don't have to install the app (it's free, so it's not a huge deal IMO). It will still work with notifications sent from the K9 app either way and opening the K9 app will clear notifications.
Made sure it works with Jellybean (thanks to gstar101 for catching the earlier incompatibility)
Bugs:
Still behaves a bit funny at first (specifically after the first install and before root access is granted)
*May* experience higher amounts of battery consumption. Please let me know if this happens (I've been getting roughly 3 or 4% battery usage from ONN).
TODO:
Find a way to get the screen on function to work without Secure Settings
Get 3rd party lockscreens (besides Go Locker) to cancel the notification
Add other apps to trigger ONN?
Eventually, I will release this on Google Play under my developer name "NanoTech". First, I'd like some feedback on what bugs need to be fixed or features that should be added. GENTLE feedback is appreciated!
Special thanks to GermainZ for answering questions about Tasker and putting up with me. Also, thanks to TangoXray for letting us know about ButtonLED in the LGOG forum.
Good job
You could probably make it work without secure settings: try using shell commands to control the screen's backlight. If I'm not mistaken, something like "echo 255 > path" will turn the screen on if it's off (you can then use the user defined variable for brightness, since Tasker can get that).
Good luck!
Edit: Actually, using an intent to turn the screen on should be much easier. I have the habit of over complicating things, lol. Google it if you like, not sure what the syntax is (you can either use the shell or the built in Intent action).
Awesome!
Edit: It works well by the way.
Working pretty well
Love that you incorporated the ability to have both cap buttons and led blink together.
Nice job!

Works great, for me it hasn't been killing my battery, and makes the notification light usable. Only thing that slightly bothers me is that the notification light doesn't smoothly pulse, but that's a small price to pay.
Great job.

I'm pretty sure setting the red led to anything greater than 0 sets the led to pulse. To get smooth pulses, adjust the on times. I'd start with 3 seconds and adjust from there.

Since I use the Diztrinuc case, which blocks the power button, this app is indispensable. Thanks for putting it together! This works great to enable the front button lights as notification lights.

Thanks, seems to be working quite well! I have a couple of feature requests, but I don't know how feasible they are.
1. Is it possible to light each of the buttons separately, or can they only be controlled as a single unit? It would be nice if we could assign each button to a specific notification. For example, light the "home" button for texts, the "back" button for emails, etc. It would somewhat make up for the fact that our LED is only a single color.
2. Can you add an option that makes unlocking the phone stop the pulsing, regardless of whether or not the notification was checked?

I'm glad it's working well! Also, no one has told me any bugs, which means that I made it flawless--doubtful--or, any issues are small. Either way, I'm fine .
I had thought about the individual control, but I'm pretty sure they are all connected. So, to my knowledge, that is not possible.
I like your 2nd idea! I'll work that into the next release. I'll probably release something new soon (likely, this weekend) that is a big re-work of the whole thing. I'm trying to add the option to have the notification stay on as long as it is charging (so it won't timeout), as well as have it stop if the battery is below a certain percentage. I've also fixed the Google Talk notification. I haven't been able to find a different way to get the screen to wake up momentarily without the use of Secure Settings. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal, but it's probably preferable to not need to download a second app--even if it is free. I'll bug GermainZ some more to see if he has any ideas for me .
Almost had a bug for you. Figured out it was the permanent on option lol Nice work.
Btw, that wakelock issue that we talked about hasn't reappeared

#2 a million times over! I;'ve noticed that even accessing my messages after I get a notification will not stop the notification. I have to go into my status bar and click the ONN icon in order for the pulsing to stop. Sometimes, this can go on FOREVER without me knowing it and my battery just decides to crap out.
The program is awesome tho!! Just would like that feature.
I have a feature request. Can you make it where the light does not come on for charging. I keep it plugged in so it keeps pulsing and I always think I have a notification. Thank you

I like that idea as well. I had tried something to get that last week, but couldn't get it to work reliably. I'll definitely keep trying and include it in one of the next releases if/when I figure it out.
Keep the requests coming! I'll do what I can. Although Tasker is awesome, it does take some time making apps on a phone screen.

I'd also like to see this implemented, if possible. Otherwise, I'll keep saying it, this is a very very VERY useful app. Thanks again for the work!
The app seems to be going haywire on my phone. I've re-installed it a few times now. It will work fine for a day then the led doesn't blink when I get a notification and the battery use for ButtonLED jumps up to around 60%. Any ideas?

That's interesting. What settings do you have on the app? Do you have any other Tasker profiles running? Each time you re-install, you'll need to re-enable the Accessibility as well.
On the version I'm working on now, I'm trying a method to reduce battery usage by disabling the profiles that look to see if one of the apps that generate a notification (Gmail, Voice, etc.) is open (and thus clear the notification) when there is no notification. That way, it won't be polling the apps when it doesn't need to. I'm not sure if that will have much of an impact.
However, I haven't ever seen my battery usage jump up that high (usually, it stays below 4% for me--but I usually clear my notifications fairly soon after they come). Are you using my app (ONN) or GermainZ's (ButtonLED)? I would recommend not using both at the same time.

No problem (I'm glad it's not something wrong with my app!). I hope you get it sorted out. However, you could see if using my app makes any difference (although GermainZ is a lot more experienced than I am, so the likelihood of mine working and his not isn't all that great ). Also, did you re-enable Accessibility after your re-installation of his app? I'm pretty sure every time you uninstall something, it clears that and you would need to re-enable when you install it again.

Some quick general questions about preserving battery through out the day.

Hey all, just wanted to post some quick general questions. So first off, I wanted to know if you all use auto-brightness or if you use the brightness widget to adjust the brightness based on ambient light. Second, when it comes to closing out apps from memory, do you only use the recent apps capacitive button, or do you also go into settings>battery and click on all of the available X's to the right of each app to close out the apps that way as well? Just asking these questions as I'm trying to maximize my daily battery life on top of LK kernel. Thanks!

I usually allow Sense to handle the killing of task. I know some thinks it does so very aggressively, but it seems fine to me.
As for brightness, I leave mine set at 50% and call it a day. My phone goes off the charger at 6:30 a.m and goes back on at 4:00pm. I'm usually around 50/55% when I get home to my charger. That's using Twitter religiously as well as Google Now for scheduling appointment. Also checking forums.
One battery saving tip I have for you though is this: Put your phone in Airplane mode if you know you won't be using for a while or if where you are currently doesnt have a very good signal.

Some things I do when Im away from home:
- Don't use autosync (put the sync widget on a home screen and when you want to sync your stuff just press it and it will sync everything once when you need it)
- Use wifi as much as possible
- Keep brightness at a comfortable level but try to keep it around 50% or less. I keep mine at about 25~30%
I use the recent apps button and clear out apps when im done with them (I can't really say if this actually kills the apps or not or how effective it is for saving battery)
Turn off unnecessary syncs. Do you really need facebook to update every 30min? Weather to update every hour? Evernote to update every hour?
Disable those syncs (especially facebook), and I usually see a saving of 20% by the end of day.
Well what I do is, since I have root access, I use juice defender to control my auto sync, CPU speed, usage and brightness. And since I did that my battery is around 20 percent at 10 pm. And I take it off charge at around 6 30 am.

For me: 1) As mentioned, first check those syncs 2) I don't have Facebook installed, if I want to check it, I do thru the browser 3) I use the Power Contol widget, it has the screen brightness toggle. I use it at 0-15% in the evening indoors and morning, 1/3 generally and Auto during the day in my truck. If I'm going to use the internet for a couple hours session, I'll tether to my HP Mini, saves screen time on the phone. At times during the workday and I have no use for the internet nor have any impending emails I absolutely need to receive, I will turn off Mobile data, that alone will save you tons of battery and you will still receive text messages and phone calls. If I'm in a fringe area I will do the same, turn off Mobile data or watch your battery drain right before your eyes. If you use Airplane mode, I'm sure you know you won't be able to text of receive/make calls. GSam Battery Monitor is a good app to monitor your battery usage and what apps are being used. Oh, and yes, I just use the Recent Apps to wipe out apps I'm done with and let Sense handle the rest.
I just used Juice defender to manage my phone. Works well.

Tips or App to optimize Battery Life?

Hello, I have been searching the forums for any tips or apps people use to get the most battery life out of their HTC One and couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm not complaining too much since I am getting around 4 hours of screen time per day. But was just wondering if anyone used any apps or has a tip that they used that saw boost in saving battery usage. Thanks
juice defender
Juice Defender, Green Power, OR BatteryGuru - Made specifically from Qualcomm for Qualcomm Snapdragon processors! Tried it on my Atrix HD and it did some impressive work at saving battery.
Never used Juice Defender personally, but I did use Green Power before on my Note I, and it was great. Saved me a ton of battery.
Currently using BatteryGuru atm for the One though.
Most important thing we could get is the ability to dial down the auto brightness, it's way too bright
I use startup manager, to have non-system apps not start at boot(saves alot of battery) I also use quad-core cpu sleeper(paid) worth it "when screen is off drops to one core, setcpu with profile to drop my max frequency to 1000 when screen is off and to full when screen is on, and finally use the stock htc power saver to only kill mobile date when off, can get 2 days on idle use and about 3/4 day regular use unless playing really graphic games
ps also using team seven kernel

Agreed!
Im glad to see this thread, I was thinking about starting one like this. For the past 2 days my ONE is draining battery fast, Im at 33% right now after an overnight charge, been using it one and off all day. Im a bit lost. I just installed battery guru. Is there a good app to show where your battery usage is going? per app or process? I had a decent iPhone app for this, Im searching the Play Store now.
thanks

Same here. If anything I feel like greenify drains more battery.
I used Carat to identify the battery drainers. Then Froze/disabled a few apps.
The real battery drainer is how much I love this freaking phone!
I do miss the task manager from my GS3 though. Wish there was a way to free RAM like it used to have.

curious... how long does it take you guys to charge your htc ones? and does it ever heat up? mine seems to be running warm from just charging.. is this normal?
DS battery saver - keeps your phone in deep sleep, most of android's battery woes come from apps randomly waking up the device to do their sync and whatnot. By default will wake the device up on a regular schedule and do a forced sync I think. Has options for whitelists so the apps you trust can still do what they want when they want. I've heard juice defender is a good one of this too, though I prefer DS battery saver for its simplicity.
Greenify - Takes a more iOS approach to apps in background. ie. it freezes them. This prevents them from consuming precious mAh
Disable location reporting (or GPS alltogether) in maps.
Disable sync for the weather/stock/news stuff in settings
Get a kernel that supports Undervolting (I prefer elementalX) and use a utility like system tuner pro to UV the everloving **** out of it. Our qualcomm chips seem to handle this particularly well.
That's all I can think of.

Greenify will only do something if the app you put onto its list was being a problem in the first place really. I suppose it works best with carat. Use the latter to identify hog apps and then greenify to deliver sweet battery saving justice to them (or uninstall them). Most android apps (at least for me) seem to be pretty good with not wrecking my battery in the background though, just sit there and wait for me to call on them again like a good app should.
Am i the only one that read the manual? Pg. 37
Getting the battery to last longer
How long the battery can last before it needs recharging depends on how you use
HTC One. HTC One power management helps to increase battery life.
In times when you need to extend the battery life more, try out some of these tips:
Check your battery usage
Monitoring your battery usage helps you identify what's using the most power so you
can choose what to do about it. For details, see Checking battery usage on page 37.
Manage your connections
§ Turn off wireless connections you're not using.
To turn on or off connections such as mobile data, Wi‑Fi, or Bluetooth, go to
Settings and tap their On/Off switches.
§ Turn GPS on only when a precise location is needed.
To prevent some apps from using GPS in the background, keep the GPS
satellites setting off. Turn it on only when you need your precise location while
using navigation or location-based apps. Go to Settings and tap Location to
turn this setting on or off.
Manage your display
Lowering the brightness, letting the display sleep when not in use, and keeping it
simple helps save battery power.
§ Use automatic brightness (the default), or manually lower the brightness.
§ Set the screen timeout to a shorter time.
38 Your first week with your new phone
§ Don't use a live wallpaper for your Home screen. Animation effects are nice to
show off to other people but they drain your battery.
Changing your wallpaper to a plain, black background can also help a little. The
less color is displayed, the less battery is used.
§ Set the web browser to auto dim the screen while webpages load. Open the
Internet app, and then tap > Settings > Accessibility > Dim screen during
page loading.
For more details, see Settings and security on page 166 and Personalizing on page
56.
Manage your apps
§ Install the latest software and application updates. Updates sometimes include
battery performance improvements.
§ Uninstall or disable apps that you never use.
Many apps run processes or sync data in the background even when you're not
using them. If there are apps that you don't need anymore, uninstall them.
If an app came preloaded and can't be uninstalled, disabling the app can still
prevent it from continuously running or syncing data. In Settings > Apps, swipe
to the All tab, tap the app, and then tap Disable.
Limit background data and sync
Background data and sync can use a lot of battery power if you have many apps
syncing data in the background. It’s recommended not to let apps sync data too
often. Determine which apps can be set with longer sync times, or sync manually.
§ In Settings, tap Accounts & sync and check what types of data are being synced
in your online accounts. When the battery is starting to run low, temporarily
disable syncing some data.
§ If you have many email accounts, consider prolonging the sync time of some
accounts.
In the Mail app, select an account, tap > Settings > Sync, Send & Receive, and
then adjust the settings under Sync schedule.
§ When you’re not traveling from one place to another, sync weather updates of
only your current location, rather than in all of your named cities. Open the
Weather app, and then tap > Edit to remove unneeded cities.
§ Choose widgets wisely.
Some widgets constantly sync data. Consider removing the ones that are not
important from your Home screen.
§ In Play Store, tap > Settings, and then clear Auto-add widgets to avoid
automatically adding Home screen widgets whenever you've installed new apps.
Also clear Auto-update apps if you're fine with updating apps from Play Store
manually.

Other tips
To squeeze in a little bit more battery power, try these tips:
§ Tone down the ringtone and media volume.
§ Minimize the use of vibration or sound feedback. In Settings, tap Sound and
choose which ones you don't need and can disable.
§ Check your apps’ settings as you may find more options to optimize the battery.

Here's a really big tip I've found from trial and error... Turn off Google Location data, best wifi performance, and turn on power saver in settings. I have auto synchronize on, auto screen brightness, and other stuff and I'm getting 15+ hours with moderate usage with 32 percent left when I plug in at night and go to bed. That's also moving in and out of 4G and lte areas and using wifi where available

thaks for the post,i've found the solution for a long time too
I don't believe in disabling everything a smartphone is supposed to be able to do. I'd just get a basic flip phone if that was the case.
I'm trying the snapdragon app atm
