I have an old DX2 that no longer has the VZW carrier plan as I switched to Nexus 5. I have returned the DX2 to factory image (now GB), and am curious about using it as a Wifi only portable device, retaining touchscreen capabilities as there is no hard keyboard.
What is the latest functional true image ROM that can be successfully flashed to it (i.e., Honeycomb, ICS, JB, etc.), and not being a look-alike?
Has anyone successfully flashed a true Linux image to a DX2 (that has touchscreen support), and not a "live" version? In other words wiping the factory image for Linux?

Hi,
I am currently using a Vibrant USA and I am running Bi-Winning v3 with the bullet kernel1.48ghz but i keep it at 1.27 max when I'm using it for most applications. I have been getting about a full 12 hour day out of a single charge while using Juice Defender ultimate.
First and Foremost I apologize if this question has been answered already, I did use all of the search tools described in the noob video
I have no complaints about Bi-Winning, I came from project-V and I have found both roms great and beautifully designed (with the trigger theme)
For my computer I am using a 27" Imac 2010 (osx 10.6.5 with current update) model with 8 gigs of ram and a core i7 processor. I recently found a program called the Winebottler. I was able to use this program to turn Odin into an Application that Mac osx can run. I am very intriuged by MIUI and CM7 as well as other roms such as Revolution rc1 however without knowing that odin will run properly I cannot try them. If odin messes up my phone install because Im not on windows then I could have corupt files that I could for that same reson not fix via Odin.
I was wondering if anyone has both operating systems or is a mac user with expierience in this issue. I have tried everything I have seen in other XDA formums telling me to use something like bootcamp or a disk partition (on my mac for dual os) but after several attempts I have not been able to get it to work at all. I would really appreciate any replies that might help me.
I was also wondering if the advantages in 2.3 would be noticable to someone who uses the phone for calls, sms, web browsing, video playback, verry little gaming(ocassional basic game like paper toss). I was also wondering if any of the 2.3 roms were fully working for everything but gps as I have a garmin for that.
One more thing, I once tried using rom manager to download and run miui 1.6.10 from project v but it gave me a hardware lock/rebootcycle wouldnt pass the vibrant samsung screen and no recovery or download mode was available. I know that It was totally my bad but that is my one expierience with flashing non edt roms.
have you tried heimdall it is a less buggy odin and it is for mac too...here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
thanks button if i helped
Yes, try Heimdall. I think it's the only native app that will work on OSX. I use it when I'm booted into Linux too.
Thank you
Thank you for the very quick response, I am installing Heimdall as we speak Hopefully i'll be on gingerbread by morning
just be sure to follow all the instructions properly on any 2.3.4 install and you should have no need for heim/odin. of course theres always a chance of a random error. but once you get the cm7 initial kernel flashed youcan factory reset reflash from that. haven't had to odin back to stock and i've flashed cm7/miui and even tried the honeycomb 3.0 alpha rom. that was interesting. just take your time play it safe and go slow
as far as benefits go the aethetics alone to Me are worth the update to gingerbread. though i'm a pretty devout Miui fan the theming engine is gorgeous and the styles are slick.
Stability wise miui is good.
CM7 is... getting better
the Sgs II clone roms all feel solid and fast
and simply Honey is one many would swear by though i personally have yet to try it (really stuck on miui lol)
my recommendation get a few, try miui, simply honey and the sgs II clone (CM7 while awesome is still far from an excellent daily driver IMO) just flash one give it a whirl, titanium backup all your apps (not data) enter recovery factory reset, format system, cache, data, and datadata and flash the next one (fix permissions), rinse repeat till you find the one for you. No need to odin inbetween flashes. also rom manager when you enter it before using it to fix permissions set it up as 3.x to follow with teh version of clockwork recovery your using.
Simply Honey

Been installing custom ROMs on my devices since the Vibrant days. Currently running JB on my Galaxy S2 and it runs flawlessly.
Is there a way to run a single ROM on my new HP Touchpad 16GB? I tasted the dual boot WebOS/Android in the past and was not a fan. I would like to just have CWR (like on my T989) and install Android ROMs. Any drawbacks? I have no interest in running WebOS or any other OS other than Android.
Just ran a secure erase and waiting to flash!

A little OT since I'm not speaking to whether single boot is possible or how to do it. But I have had to boot into WebOS a couple times to fix problems with my Android partition and so I would recommend keeping WebOS around. It doesn't really bother you; you can set moboot to boot Android by default without a timeout. And there's still plenty of space for Android apps.

+1 Word! lol. I just had to do that today due to something going haywire when I tried to do a restore. Thank goodness.
WebOS cannot be removed from the touchpad. It would be nice though.
What you can do is change moboot to boot into android by default:

Not too long ago I bought a XT910 from rogers used off a person. It had a problem,it wouldn't boot pass the rogers screen, well I got it once or twice, just to root it and it always booted fine in BP hardware + AP boot but no other way. After tinkering I got BMM installed, and was able to install any non stock based ROMS (AOKP types iirc).
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and if there is a way to get stock based roms like catalyst and Artmod to boot properly.
Or do you think there is some hardware problems on it? Like I said, non stock based roms seem to work fine, well some have a small lag issue on touching the screen and actions but so far Carbon 4.3 JB rom I have installed with the JBX kernel seems to be going fine (Even have GPS working fine too)
I just wanted to know anyones opinion on the matter. (oh, I bought the phone for only $80 CDN, figured it was a deal)
EDIT: BMM shows a Red LED when attempting to boot stock roms
This never looks like a hardware problem!
I have a rooted HDX 7" 3rd gen that I have been running CM 11 on using Safestrap, and I would like to try and get a different rom running on it. I did a factory reset back to FireOS 4.5.2. I'd really love to get CM 13 running, but I'm not sure how to do it or if it's even an option at this point. I am trying to make sense of my different options but I'm pretty confused at this point. Am I stuck with CM 11 for now or is this even possible? If not is CM 12 or Nexus a possibility? Thanks!
You can NOT use CM13 and CM12 with Safestrap v4! Both require an unlocked bootloader, you can NOT downgrade below 3.2.8 due to rollback protection by Amazon (attempt would brick the device), thus you can't unlock the bootloader.
You can use CM11 or Nexus for Safestrap v4 only.

Pretty amazing your device survived the factory reset. In most cases that yields an instant brick when Safestrap v4 recovery is installed/active. Did you have CM 11 installed in the stock slot or a secondary slot (eg: slot 1)?

That's not the recommended configuration and likely contributed to a sub-optimal experience. Issues:
- only 2 of the 4 processor cores can be used (poor performance under load)
- those two core run at 100% all the time (poor battery life)
- device never deep sleeps (variety of issues including thermal)
- wifi radio is slow to engage during power transitions
- limited user space for apps/data
- instant brick if a slot backup is restored to the stock slot or vice versa
Custom ROMs should always be installed in the stock slot (overwriting FireOS) with Safestrap v4 which is exclusive to HDX 3rd gen devices. A safestrap compatible version of FireOS can be flashed if needed allowing the device to return to stock. Secondary slots should not be created/used.

Good to know! There wasn't anything I saw during my research about this when I first set it up with CM 11.
Also, does anyone know of a way to get Wii Remotes to work with either CM 11 or Nexus. I know they don't seem to work with Android 4.2 and higher and since both CM 11 and Nexus are running higher versions am I out of luck?
The device is an old Hisense Sero 7 Pro Android tablet. I've previously flashed the DOPA v4.4.4 ROM, which worked fine, but KitKat no longer works on certain apps. So I flashed the DOPA v5.1.1 ROM, which works fine with the apps, but the encryption function doesn't work. It apparently tries to reboot at the beginning of the encryption process, and gets stuck there.
I would hate to throw this tablet away. It's barely broken in. But there are no other ROMs which even pretend to have encryption working (v6 specifically says encryption doesn't work).
Is there any alternative to the built-in Android encryption? Any kind of addon that would encrypt the device? A recovery option that does that? Any other ideas?
Thanks very much.
