Hey Guys and Girls,
I am at a loss here and i really need your help.
I have recently got a HTC one Max and i have unlocked the bootloader.
So now my finger print scanner will not work.
I have been on here all day trying different ways to get the bootloader locked again, but noting works.
revone wont work, rumrunner wont work.
I have hboot 2.47.0000
now i have read somewhere that anything above 1.55 wont be able to get s-off, which will enable me to lock the bootloader.
Please can some one help...............:crying:
Ohhhh guys please help,
I flashed another boot.img file and now the t6 is just resetting itself over and over again. I cant get to the bootloader or shut the phone down.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP !!!
Alright, let's get some clear information here...
So you've unlocked the bootloader, correct?
Edit: okay, I see what you mean now. I'm assuming that you have tried to s-off via rumrunner, but it is failing. How exactly is it failing?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can't lock it unless u are s-off. But kitkat is just days away and my guess is that we will get a new hboot version and then we take it from there. Cheer up and flash back your own bootloader, and wait.. Wait.. Wait

You need to disable your firewall/Anti-Virus for RumRunner or it will fail.
Your fingerprint scanner needs a locked bootloader to function. You can change the bootloader flag to Locked again after S-OFF and that will restore your fingerprint scanner.

The fingerprint Scanner checks the bootloader status. If the status is Unlocked the Fingerprint Scanner is disabled. You can "Lock" your bootloader again but using my tool in Scotty1223's thread or following the step by step instructions. The Thread is in the General Section. Additionally, we do not user RevOne at all as it was designed for the HTC One. Granted the phone hardware is similar but some newer users may break something if we suggested using even 1 function of a tool for another phone. So I tend to avoid offering HTC One tools.

You can't use HTCDev Token to unlock your kernel, Recovery and System paritions?
If you can't use HTCDev then you will need to use Rumrunner to achieve S-Off. Disable Firewall and Anti-Virus prior to running Rumrunner as indicated in the instructions for Rumrunner.

As far as I know the term is the only difference. Insecure and unsecure are synonymous (as far as I know). We do know from Beanups that the hboot version is not a factor when S-OFF'ing using Rumrunner.
In most cases the reason most Rumrunner S-Off processes fail are due to one of the following:
User error in following the very specific Rumrunner directions.
Windows
HTC drivers installed and working – fastboot AND adb drivers
HTC sync removed (not closed – REMOVED)
All other phone software removed or disabled (Samsung Kies, PDANet, etc.)
VM’s are unsupported.
ALL firewalls and internet security applications should be totally disabled. If you get stuck with rows and rows of dots during the connection test process, it’s network filtering or other network issue!
A working internet connection
USB debugging enabled on your device
Fast boot disabled on your device (settings -> battery -> UNcheck “fast boot”)
Your device must be HTCDEV unlocked or rooted unless using rumrunner with a device blocked by htcdev (e.g. m7wlv)
Instructions
Once you confirm you meet the above pre-requisites, it’s time to get started.
Read all of the directions on this page before proceeding to the downloads page.
Ensure device is booted to android with usb debugging enabled.
USB 2.0 ports are preferred.
USB 3.0 ports are known to cause connectivity problems
You should not be connected using any hubs which may cause connectivity issues
Use the original HTC USB cable or a cable that you know to work with adb and fastboot on this device
Ensure that lock screen security is disabled on your device.
no passcode lock
no pattern lock
no face lock
Be sure to disable any Firewall or Anti-Virus applicatoins for the during of the Rumrunner process.

I think the rumrunner (0.5) is not working on the most recent purchased One Max international version... I tried several times but rumrunner always doing the <pouring x...> until it finally gave up on around 10 times.... I didn't update with unsecured kernel since on the rumrunner's web site, they said it's not relevant anymore...
Any other suggestions here?

All I can tell you is that it worked for me. AT&T Unlocked HBOOT 1.55, firmware 3.17.502.3, ROOTED... just like yours. After I ran rumrunner a prompt appeared on the phone screen that I confirmed with OK and that was it. The phone rebooted several times and ended up with LOCKED HBOOT and S-OFF. I had to unlock again with a new Unlock code from htcdev.

Did you do this on windows 8
Did u have to extract the rumrunner zip into a specific folder such as fastboot folder and run it from there?, did u need adb drivers it says if you htcdev unlock the adb doesn't need to be downloaded.
I mean of all else fails where's the exact files /links you used , there's to many variables here can you help any further ?
Why won't my phone keep rebooting past the 2nd fastboot reboot instead just keeps counting.

Yes I did this on Win 8. I unzipped the file in a folder on the desktop and ran soju.exe file. I had the ADB drives installed for my previous HTC One X. Didn't download anything extra except for the rumrunner.zip. Make sure you are full stock and rooted. Also you have to uninstall HTC Sync if you have it installed.

I'm starting to think I'm experiencing a usb3.0 issue on my gateway which is apparently a huge issue topic under the how to get around soff block thread ..
Windows Usb3.0 on windows 8 doesn't work well with fastboot.
But it seems complicated to change/force Intel usb3.0 drivers which allow fastboot adb to work flawlessly in place of the windows 3.0 usb .
That's the whole issue here I believe.

Hboot 1.55 LOCKED S-Off w/ Rumrunner
So, I unlocked my boot loader with HTCDEV. I than used Rumrunner to gain s-off and root. It worked but now it says Tampered "locked" but is S-off. I'd like to unlock my bootloader and if possible without HTCDEV again. I just got the phone set back up. I backed up my apps but I couldn't get TWRP to load through a flashing app or Goomanager. I'm guessing this is because I'm locked. Can anyone help?? Not sure what to do here. Sounds like you guys figured this out but I didn't see the howto..
is it ok to ask what the purpose of s- off is?
I had to be on stock ROM to be able to S-OFF when I tried the other day. I also had to put all the rumrunner files in the same folder as my sdk/adb stuff. Make sure, if your phone prompts you to accept the connection from the PC, to accept.
Is your phone even showing up when you try 'adb devices' ?
Yes, that all worked fine. I ended up installing Clock work through their app.. never could get twrp to work

The purpose of S-OFF is so you can change the CID (carrier ID) and a few other things. It is the master access to the phone pretty much. Once you change the CID you can flash stock ROMs (custom roms can be flashed without S-OFF), which allow you to convert your AT&T HTC one to the google play edition or any other edition like the European editions.
I got it to work on my One. I had to try twice. I think it failed the first time because of an SU permission popup or something which I pressed allow but then rumrunner ended without finishing. The second time it worked though.
How did you uninstall the HTC Sync app? I've tried a couple of different ways, but it comes back after I restart the phone.
I have a Sprint version that I managed to root; can't get it to s-off or can't get the TWRP recovery 2.6.3.0-m7wls to open. It flashes fine, but the phone just reboots even though it states "entering recovery. I don't like CWR. I need a TWRP that works with my phone. Also, I have tried to methods of acquiring s-off to no avail.............Can anyone help me. Thanks
You are flashing a recovery meant for the One(m7). Find the recovery in this forum for the One Max to flash.
Almost There....
I found the right twrp recovery and a working superuser; so I'm now rooted and can enter recovery. My Bootloader is unlocked and all I need now is to s-off, which Rumrunner failed to do repeatedly. I need to find another method.
I have a Sprint HTC One Max running Android 4.3 with Sense 5.5.
Thanks again.

you're not doing something properly; follow the directions EXACTLY, every single step must be done the way it says to on the rumrunner site, or it wont work

Rumrunner will not complete if you have a Firewall or Anti-Virus active. Disable them then it should install. But it worth noting that if you already have twrp/root you don't really need S-OFF. Unless you want to Super CID/Change the Bootloader Flag otherwise you can flash roms and recoveries with Bootloader Unlocked.
Good information.
I have everything done and flashed the Sky Dragon Rom. Working great; last change is to get the fingerprint scanner up and running.
I "relocked" the bootloader and it still is not functioning.
Fully Functional
I had uptained s-off but made mu fingerprint scanner inoperable. Well the Guru Bootloader Reset Tool Locked my bootloader and removed the "Tampered" script in less than three seconds. My Scanner is working flawlessly again.

You don't need s-off to unlock bootloader and root. Of course if you want to be able to use the fingerprint scanner, you would need to be s-off and locked.
Hello all, I've just recently recovered my DNA back to stock from a botched ROM install on the 3.06 software. Prior to running the RUU, I used Rumrunner to unlock my bootloader to put CWM on as my recovery. Then I had to re-lock it to run the RUU. Now I'm stuck at re-unlocking it. The HTCdev site is giving me a MID not allowed error and I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that I used Rumrunner? Call me stupid, the DNA is still relatively new to me. Thank you!!
You shouldn't need to relock it to RUU. The RUU will overwrite your recovery with stock but the bootloader should remain unlocked (and s-off if you did that as well). At this point you should be able to just run rumrunner again to unlock the bootloader and then you can flash a custom recovery and go from there.

Tried doing Rumrunner again, Getting this error, "ERROR: run rumrunner again and READ (no adb connection to device. Debugging on?
Drivers?)" I've uninstalled the drivers via device manager, let windows 7 reinstall them and installed/uninstalled HTCsync with no luck.
Edit: Nevermind, tried a different cable. Hate it when that happens.
Edit 2: Rumrunner must have failed, device still relocked.

ADB Devices is a command issued from the command prompt. It should return the S/N of the device connected. If there is no response the drivers are not installed on the PC. If you are using Win 8 or 8.1 you will have issues

I have heard if you flash a new hboot the relocked text will go away, but I haven't had this issue myself so I can't personally confirm it. I do recommend updating your hboot and radio, though, for other reasons like better radio signal.

Updating the hboot and radio seems a little daunting. Definitely something I want to look in to once I can figure out how to get a ROM on this without calling a mulligan and starting from scratch again.

Not too familiar with running that command. I'm new to the whole HTC scene. My Note 2 was significantly easier to work with in this respect.

Adb is universal to all android devices, I highly recommend getting used to it if you plan on rooting future devices, the only thing native to HTC is the S-OFF portion of eMMC

I did, sorry for not posting it here. I went and got a new cable from tiger direct and tried again. For some reason, the bootloader still says relocked but I have root access. I don't feel confident enough to try and see if CWM or TWRP and I don't want to go through the RUU garbage again. Shoot me a PM and I'll tell you everything what not to do. LOL

Are you S-OFF? If so issue this command in fastboot:
fastboot oem writecid 22222222
Go to htcdev.com and then it will allow you to unlock the bootloader also make sure you have 8 2's in the command.
Hello guys,
I apologise if I have created a duplicate thread for this issue-but I HAVE looked everywhere to find a solution to this. I am not a 100% expert so please excuse me if I am being a time-wasting nerd.
However, in a few words, the problem I am having is:
I bought HTC DROID DNA (from the states-brand new) and I managed to unlock the bootloader (S-Off) using the info from these threads and for some really silly reason I decided and managed to relock it. Now it is showing ''Relocked'' and ''S-ON''.
I have tried everything I could find so far to unlock the bootloader (i.e. S-Off) (rumrunner,moonshine, traditional method(since I ve got the original unlock token)).
Can anyone please, please let me know how to S-Off as I would like to install a custom ROM since I can't get any updates in the UK-(which I don't see coming anytime soon anyway.)
Thanks very much.

I have. I tried to do what it says there, i.e. CID shows 1111111 and then trying to flash the unlock token but it is not working, it says Error for some reason.

Thanks, I have just tried that, but get stuck at ''su'' step. I 've looked it up and it says that you need some sort of temp root? which I don't understand what exactly it is. So still stuck.

Welcome to Firewater
What firewater can do for you:
S-Off your HTC device
Unlock yout bootloader
There are two methods which can be used to achieve S-Off:
Method n.1: to be used with and HTCDev unlocked/rooted device;
Method n.2: temp-root method, to be used if you don't want to unlock your device through HTCDev (it may not work with all devices);
Prerequisites
Working adb on your PC (Windows, Linux, OSX, etc. are all supported);
HTC drivers installed and working
HTC sync removed (not closed - REMOVED)
All other phone software removed or disabled (Samsung Kies, PDANet, etc.)
A working internet connection on your device (Wifi, 3G, 4G, etc. are all supported). There is no way around this requirement, don’t ask;
USB debugging enabled on your device;
Your device must be HTCDEV unlocked/rooted or have a working temproot. A temproot that works with many modern (not all) HTC devices is provided below;
Do not attempt to run firewater from a terminal emulator on your device. You MUST use adb along with a PC;
A supported device. Firewater *should* work with most modern QUALCOMM based HTC devices, including (but not limited to) the HTC One, HTC Droid DNA, HTC One S, HTC One Max and many others.
Instructions: method n.1 (normal, rooted device method)
Once you confirm you meet the above pre-requisites, it’s time to get started.
Ensure device is booted to android with usb debugging enabled
USB 2.0 ports are preferred. You should not be connected using any hubs which may cause connectivity issues;
Ensure that lock screen security is disabled on your device (no passcode lock, no pattern lock, no face lock);
Download Firewater Search the download from the official site;
Push, prepare and execute Firewater:
Code:
adb reboot (<--- important!!!!)
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
/data/local/tmp/firewater
Agree to the terms and conditions you are prompted with;
Allow the exploit to do its work;
Profit.
Instructions: method n.2 (temp-root method)
This method may allow firewater to work on a fully stock/HTCDev locked device. This method is being provided as a convenience. Do NOT seek support if this temproot does not work for you.
Ensure device is booted to android with usb debugging enabled.
USB 2.0 ports are preferred. You should not be connected using any hubs which may cause connectivity issues;
Ensure that lock screen security is disabled on your device (no passcode lock, no pattern lock, no face lock);
Download firewater Search the download from the official site;
Download temproot Search the download from the official site;
Push, prepare and execute temproot and Firewater:
Code:
adb reboot (<--- important!!!!)
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb push temproot /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/temproot
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
/data/local/tmp/temproot
/data/local/tmp/firewater
Agree to the terms and conditions you are prompted with;
Allow the exploit to do its work;
Profit.

Thanks for that. I did try that, and now it says '' Tampered'' and ''Relocked'' and ''S-ON''. I don't understand why this is happening.
I had a similar issue. To resolve, I used the PC to RUU back to stock then started over with firewater.
Good luck.

You need to use the same bin file after ruu.
But I think firewater should work too.
I used firewater on 4 phones. I only had problems when I missed a step. Try again from the beginning. From stock after ruu.

Hi Icyman, That is what I did, I flashed the original RUU and then deactivated fast reboot, enabled debug. mode, installed weaksauce-1.01 and finally went ahead with firewater. (device always hungs with firewater in the end and I have to hold the power button down for 60s as it says-not sure if that makes a difference)
Will try again as you suggest though.
I really appreciate your help. Thanks very much.

That's the only way I can apply temproot and then firewater, I can't find the original temproot file anywhere and I thought that weaksauce is the updated version of the temproot file. If you could send me the temproot file somehow that would be great,-just to see if it could work...
Any further advice guys? Please?!!! I've got this phone but the outdated software makes it useless.
Hello to all.
I have not rooted a phone in quite a while, since the original Evo. Here's the rundown of what I've been experiencing lately:
I unlocked the bootloader using the HTC dev method, it went smooth. To obtain s-off (I was on the latest OTA of 3.17.651.5), I attempted rumrunner. Everything went fine until I got an error with rumrunner. I then tried the windroid toolkit, flashed TWRP (v2.7.1.0) which was a success. When I flashed superuser from windroid, it rebooted me to recovery to flash the zip file "superuser.zip", but it did nothing. I looked on this forum and found a supersu zip file. I tried flashing a couple versions of the supersu (1.25, 2.01) but no luck. For every one I attempted to flash, I would get the message that said successful but no s-off. After confirming the flash, it would say "flashing file 1 of 1", but then switch to saying "flashing file 1 of 0". I ended up flashing a rom (CM11-20131217), which put the phone into a bootloop (I got this resolved by downgrading to TWRP 2.6.3.0, flashing the kernel for the CM11, then flashing the rom, which of course still kept me S-on.)
So basically, I have an unlocked bootloader, with TWRP 2.6.3.0 as a recovery, on CM11-20131217 build, yet I'm still S-on. Is there a certain version of supersu or superuser that I should be flashing? How can I achieve S-off?
Additional information that may help:

Thanks to anyone that can be of assistance!
You have to run Rumrunner again. But flash stock rooted before you do (I don't know if it'll work while on CM).
Thanks for the quick reply. I will give that a shot, hope it does work. Is there a certain version of that I should flash before running rumrunner again?

Okay, thanks!
After getting some time here and there, I attempted to flash a few stock rooted roms with no luck. I'm not sure if it's because of the rom that I am currently on. not s-off or what. A lot of the stock root roms I do find have a requirement that you must be s-off to flash. I even tried running RUU's (4.13.651.4 and 3.17.651.4) for specific roms, but they gave me errors and would not continue each time. I remember when rooting and gaining s-off was much simpler than this lol. I don't even know if it is worth continuing to keep trying.
Check the link below for a ROM that is S-on friendly. Make sure you follow the directions in the thread to get it installed. Once you've done this you can go for S-off, at which time you should be able to flash whatever ROM you'd like.

Thanks for that! It worked with meanbean. I ran rumrunner again and it gave me an error, saying something about an update on rumrunner.us. I gave firewater a shot, and after it said "the first bottle is open...chugging", the screen stays blank for a while and firewater instructs me to try again and ends the process. From what I read last night around my searches, I'm supposed to get a notification on the evo asking for superuser permission but that didn't happen. I'm guessing this is due to the wrong supersu being flashed.
Glad I got a little further, I'm just going to play around with it until something gives and I am s-off
There's a setting in the su app that will let you grant su access to all apps automatically and without a prompt. That should get rid of that problem.
I wouldn't go with those settings for any other purpose though, obviously.

I went into the SuperSU app and selected where the default access was set to grant. I ran firewater again with the normal method and weaksauce method with no luck, it's still doing the same thing. USB debugging is on, and the drivers are installed correctly as well.

Disable antivirus software on phone and pc.
It ain't nothing but a G thing baby... Lg G3 LGSL990
Weaksauce is an exploit for Verizon phones that can't be unlocked with HTC Dev so it's pointless to try it on the EVO LTE.

Also, while you need htc sync manager to unlock your boot loader, it usually really screws with any other adb tools, so uninstall that too.

This. Also make sure you're using USB 2.0 ports, as 3.0 ports can cause connectivity issues.

First thing is that in order to run any RUU device boot loader must be 're-locked to do this enter into fastboot plug in to pc and within your Android unlocker folder that u use to unlock your device hold shift and right click anywhere in the folder to open command window then type : fastboot oem lock . This will lock the bootloader, now you will be able to run RUU. Just keep in mind that you may only go up Android versions levels ,, running RUU will stabilize your device and fixes the sectors which u may have damaged during the moding in the RAM .. Now for obtaining S-OFF the only option for you (since u upgraded) is to use DirtyRacun witch uses Ubuntu Live CD method and it does work. ***Now, if you just want unlocked bootloader with SU permission so u can flash rooms (not firmware or radio) and don't care about S-OFF then let me know to show you the options available at this time .. I repeat *you may only go up in android versions , in case that is necessary to go down then you need to deal with the CID. By switching and modifying the CID only then you are allowed to downgrade the Android Build versions
Dirty Racun isn't the only option for S-off
He's already unlocked his bootloader and has root. He's on the latest firmware version for the old partition layout: it's well-documented that methods like Rumrunner work.
OP, here's the thread for Rumrunner. I suggest giving it a read:thumbup:

Excuse my ignorance but but how did you get sprints HTC evo 4g LTE codename jewel to work on at&t. I didn't know you could do that. (hint: are you sure you have the right phone? )
Anyways. As long as its an HTC it should be fine right? The problem would be the same.
