[Q] Factory reset after Rooting phone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I factory reset my rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 without really thinking. Now on reboot, it seems to be stuck on the ' Samsung GALAXY SII GT-19100' start up screen (with the yellow triangle). I realized after I did the factory reset that it was a bad idea so any help would be greatly appreciated
If it helps, I am rooted with Jeboo Kernel

I've done a number of factory resets.....in both the android menu and cwm........
All it does is wipe any user installed apps and user settings.....it doesn't even get rid of photos taken using the phones camera......so it doesn't affect whether your phone boots or not.......

So, how do I fix this problem. Cannot even turn off the phone as it goes black and then straight into this screen. Can get into download screen though.

OK....so you can't boot the phone....
And I'm guessing you can't access CWM?
In that case, you only really have one option......flash a stock firmware via Odin and re root.......

Did you factory reset your phone after flashing? That seems like what your issue is...

[Q] no boot after custom rom install

im having a problem here. rooted my s2 with odin, no problems there. i can boot up into my backed up stock rom. i have no problems installing any rom, its just that my phone will boot and load up to the roms boot animation but thats as far as it gets. left the phone for 30 minutes and still doesnt go. Using clock work recovery. not too sure what to do? any thoughts would be appreciated
Do a factory reset from the recovery.

After flashing a rom? I always do before but don't think I ever have after. Will try as soon as I'm home, thanks

Yeah, it's a factory reset, you can perform it at any time.

International (UK) S3 stuck in reboot loop

So I was using an app on the phone and it rebooted.
It now just loops around the initial splash screen, only pulling the battery stops it.
I can get to the recovery menu and did a factory reset but it made no difference.
Not rooted / stock ROM.
I checked the power button and that operates normally.
Is there anything else I can try ?
Thanks
flash a stock rom
If you are not rooted you will have to use Odin and a stock rom for your device.

thanks, I'll go and read up on odin.
I'd love to know what killed the OS, seems bizarre. I was only doing a crossword
I flashed the correct ROM via odin and its still doing the same thing, splash screen appears about every 5 seconds.
Any more ideas or is it going on a trip to the repair centre ?
non root apps cant really kill the os.
what fw we're you on? that app could have used the exynos exploit if your kernel is one of the older ones.
The FW is Vodafone UK, last had an update at the end of last month.
When it died there was nothing downloading etc, was just running an app I've had on there since I got the phone.

have you done a factory reset from recovery after reflashing the stock ROM?
if yes, send it to Samsung
You my good sir have a brick bug only the great Sammy can help

Have you tried a custom recovery ie TWRP or Clockwork Mod, and then a custom ROM? Seeing that you did even have it rooted it probably isn't an option but it is an idea.

Rebbot after screen turned off

Hi guys, I have this weird problem.
Today I bought a S3 from a guy.
When the phone screen turns off because i don't use it, it doesn't wake and reboots.
When I use it, and screen is on, never reboots.
What to do?
I flashed the newest ROM and the problem still exists

Have you done a factory reset before flashing?

Yes, I did

I mean a real factory reset, not the one found in samsung's settings, but in clockworknod's.
Just root, install clockworkmod, factory reset and flash a custom rom or a samsung stock rom edited to run on rooted s3.
If you've already done that, might also try dalvik cache format...but i dunno how much help it can be.

I bricked my friend's S2, please help!

Ok, so I've rooted 2 phones so far with no problem. But when I did it to my friend, the phone won't lauch the rom any more (tried with slimbean).
I used this method before I installed slimbean: http://scientimystic.wordpress.com/...i9100-having-android-4-1-2-official-firmware/
After installing it, it wouldn't load. So I reinstalled my backup that I did after I rooted, and nothing, the phone is just stuck on the galaxy s2 screen and a yellow exclamation triangle below.
I can boot into cwm or download mode, but I can't transfer files on my phone I think.
Please help, if it was my phone I wouldn't be so desperate but I really don't want to screw up my friends phone.
If you can boot into cwm and download mode it aint bricked.
All it is....is a borked OS......I'm guessing that if you were on JB before, that when you backed up, you didn't include the preload partition. If your chosen custom rom zip is still on your phone, boot into cwm and flash it again. Thiss time though, before you reboot the phone post flash, wipe cache, dalvic and data.....then reboot.

Hey, ok then well I thought bricked meant you can't load the rom.
My backup actually worked now so all is ok, but I can't install any custom rom - every one of them just loops indefinitely at the loading once I flash it, and after that it won't do anything until i revert my backup.
Are you sure you're rooted?

Yes, I used the guide in the link and checked some apps that required root.
Your custom rom installs......are you doing the post install wipes?
Are you waiting long enough for the phone to complete the first boot?
It always takes longer than usual for that initial boot......

Yes, I wiped the cache afterwards and I waited enough.. 15 minutes sure is enough of a wait, is it not?
Yeah....15 minutes is plenty long enough......but when I said wipes....I didn't mean just cache....I meant dalvic and data too.....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Clearly, you haven't wiped data.
