hey guys, id like to preface this by saying im VERY new to sony devices, but not new to custom roms and rooting in general.
im currently running pacrom 4.3, but there is an app i want to use that just wont work with it. so i want to go back to stock. i made a nand before i flashed pac, and figured i could just restore back to my stock rooted .290. but when i do the restore, the phone will not boot. i have tried everything... i do remember having to flash a special boot img in order to get pac to work, and im curious if i have to do something similar to go back? i have searched high and low and followed many guides and instructions but sony development seems incredibly confusing compared to samsung and htc...
any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Does it restore the backup without any errors, or are you getting an error before it completes?
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
It does a full restore without errors. Then I choose to reboot and the pac boot splash still shows up and it stays there

Flash a boot.img in recovery from one of the stock roms (DoggRom etc) or flash the bootbundle & kernel from a .290 ftf. That should sort it.

i appreciate the tip. i downloaded the Dogg rom, as the monx rom didnt have a boot img. i used quikimg to load it just like i did when going to pacrom. no errors, everything worked fine. but when i went to start the device to put it into recovery, it would vibrate once, and nothing else.
then i tried using flashtool to flash the bootbundle and kernel from a .290, same thing. no errors, smooth sailing, until i try to boot. one vibration, then nothing.
i guess im just doomed to stay on pacrom. couldnt have chosen a better rom to be stuck on though XD

You could try a full flash of .290 then flash boot.img from doggrom to get recovery then restore the backup???
When ever flashing .290 start with a full battery
Hello,
For me from GPe ROM and PAC before:
Flash 290 Sony, the one before 5xx and to finish boot.img from PAC, flash PAC, boot PAC.
RESTORE PAC! :good:
Thank you everyone for the help. I was able to do some SERIOUS troubleshooting and got the app working through trial and error. I no longer need to go back to stock, I can stay on my beautiful pac!

I just tried to install the latest ICS alpha version for my xperia neo. Everything went fine and it said everything flashed okey, but now its just coming up with the "Sony Ericsson" text and then restarts itself over and over. Anyone have any ideas of what to do?
edit 1: Maybe i should try to redo it? i can still access cwm.
edit 2: Just redid the whole installing procedure and got the same results.
edit 3: Gave up for the moment as i need the phone working tonight so i chose to install the NEO SE.TWEAKED 0.8.5 and now i get stuck on the "Sony Ericsson" logo/text. Really have no clue of what to do now.
edit 4: cannot access cwm recovery anymore. This doesn't feel so good anymore. Anyone have an idea of how get anything working?
edit 5: I can get into the fastboot mode, can i do something from this?
edit 6: Restored to my backup via fastboot for now. We'll see if i dare trying out something new later/tomorrow or not.
Probably you don't read install instructions carefully and missed something. Etc...right kernel flashing..

I met all the requirements, unlocked the bl, installed cwm and got fastboot working.
I then booted both boot.img and after that recovery img. got into the 4.0.0.5 (or something like that) recovery and there i flash first rom then fixes then gapps.
I don't see what i missed. I had stock kernel and it didn't say anything about changing the kernel from what i could see.
But i probably missed something somwehere i guess, do you have any idea of what?

Thanks for the help guys!
I was at stock kernel, problem was i didn't flash the boot.img, i only booted it. Guess i could do it now then but if you say it's not worth it to get ics yet then i will wait.
Great work btw really impressed with what you people do even if i didn't get it to work yesterday (my fault obviously not yours)
Would you recommend flashing either cm7/se tweaked 0.8.5? or is it not such a big difference? On my old zte blade the difference was huge when flashing cm7 instead of stock rom but as the neo is pretty good to begin with maybe its not that big of a deal.
I tried installing se tweaked 0.85 again but i got stuck on boot logo again. I'm on everything stock as i restored it all yesterday (except unlocked bl and cwm). Do i need another kernel or something for this?

you need doom 9 kernel or inteks kernel tats all mate for little things to work stock is just stock !! hope you get sorted soon an just see what tweaked roms n miui n cm roms have to offer
awesome i'll go ahead and try the intek kernel right now then! big thanks!
edit: no problem with flashing inteks kernel, booted up as it should with stock rom. tried to flash se tweaked 0.85 again, and yet again i got stuck on boot logo (now the intek one of course). I just can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.
here's what i did:
start in cwm mode 5.0.0.27 or something like that.
wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
flash se tweaked 0.85, flash kormatoes ics theme.
reboot system, stuck on logo and waited for at least 7-8 mins.
edit 2: right now i'm downloading the rom again, maybe it's a corrupt download or something.
edit 3: Got miui running now so i guess i'll try that for a bit now, would really like to get se tweaked going though!
edit 4: Could have been a corrupt download, did everything just like before and now i got se tweaked 0.8.5 running!

The problem is the theme you're trying to install from kormatoes, it creates bootloops. Install SE.Tweaked 8.5 without the theme but, just so you know, SE.Tweaked theme is ugly. But works correctly, oh yeah and it's not a rooted ROM, which is kinda weird..

And you are thanks for the head up but u know nothing at all or even why it gives boot loops
The fact its for different Rom and you don't lissen or read posts. And if you knew anything about root
And not to use stock kernel for se-tweaked Rom only use doom
And the reason it's themed like that is because of people like you complaining about heavy themeng
Ps ics lockscreen n theme

This is embarrassing but I think I might have just bricked my phone. I'm hoping that there is a work around. Please let me know if you need more info to possibly help me.
I was running:
1. SIM Unlocked/Rooted T-Mobile Amaze 4G with 1.43.531.3 Radio
2. BulletProof 2.41 Rom
3. Faux123 Kernal v.0.0.8 [Jan 22]
4. Have Clockwork Recovery Installed
I've been dealing with constant reboots since I bought the phone new. I saw that someone posted in the Energy Rom thread that when they installed his Rom that the reboots went away. So I decided to try his.
I then:
1. Grabbed the Stock Kernal Flasher and tried to flash back to the stock kernal using Xboarders Easy Flasher. Everything seemed to go fine.
2. Phone rebooted and Its just stuck at the HTC Logo.
Any options for me? I did try to restore from my last ROM backup using CWM (which I figured was futile) but that didn't change anything.
Thanks for your help on this. I love this phone but I just couldn't keep dealing with the constant reboots. Now I'm really hosed
Reflash the kernel again...maybe it didn't write everything.

Thanks for the reply,
I used Windows to flash the phone's kernal. It won't recognize the device since its stuck at the logo.
If there is a way to flash the kernal in Recovery (I'm still S-On with unlocked bootloader) please let me know and I'll try it that way..

i think the problem is using the stock kernel.
take out the battery, use the vol down+power buttons to boot into hboot, then boot into fastboot, flash the kernel appropriate to the rom your using, dont just use stock, and then reflash your rom. always remember to do a full wipe

Thanks for your suggestion. Before I saw your reply, I decided to flash the Energy Rom since it had the Stock kernal built into it. I fortunately already had the rom on my SD card so I went into Recovery and flash that rom.
FORTUNATELY, the phone rebooted successfully after rom flash to the new rom. My phone is still using Faux123's kernal so the Energy rom didn't flash the stock kernal after all. But my phone is working again!!!
Thanks for everyone's help. I guess I'll just leave the Faux123 kernal on it and be satisfied with that with the Energy rom. Hopefully the constant reboots will go away.

Thanks to S-ON the kernel will not flash when you flash a rom. You have to flash the kernel separately using the kernel flash utility.
I'm running the Energy rom using the stock kernel from his thread and am loving it. Battery life is great. I've heard that battery life is not so good with faux.
No worries needed... glad you figured it out. The good news though about having S=on is that it's virtually impossible to brick. I'm pretty sure I've read posts from members saying good luck trying to brick it.
I'm sure if you edit the right code in the build.prop, you might be able to brick it, but even then you should still be able to boot into recovery.

Flashed CM9 to experiment with it and see how it ran, prior to doing so made a backup of current setup (unnamed 2.2.1 w/ siyah kernel). After flashing to CM9 and playing around a bit i was going to revert back to my original setup. Tried flashing back and now I am unable to even get to CWM Recovery, or Download Mode. It will boot to the SGS2 screen and then just go black no matter what I do. It is still recognized in Odin so I was thinking I'm going to have to revert back to stock and just flash it back afterwards. Any ideas before I proceed?

Flash back to stock. Strange - you say you can't get into download mode, but Odin recognizes it?
Ok, finally got into DL mode and flashed a stock kernel from Entropy's post. Now i'm faced with it booting to the ATT splash screen and it just loops that screen infinitely. I'm still unable to access recovery mode to wipe data/cache or anything like that. This is becoming frustrating and I'm not quite able to wrap my head around why after flashing stock that I'm unable to boot into the phone beyond the splash screen. Am I using the wrong stock fw or something? Here's the link to the one i used.

From my experience it's the wrong SPL/radio combo.
No matter what I do, I'm stuck up to that point.....I've tried a few different stock flash packages through Odin to no avail, same result every time. I know i'm probably doing something wrong or I'm missing something here, its not bricked I do know that so its not like i'm dead in the water here. Any ideas would be better than where I'm at currently.

There is no SPL on the GSII, and a bad radio will only screw up calls/cell data.
To the OP - exactly how did you flash CM9? CWM or some kanged-up Odin build?
Through CWM, everything worked fine but when I was using CM9 my back button and serach button weren't working, probably erroneous to this situation. this is just messing me all up that I'm able to boot up til the splash and then it just loops it over and over, its making me think that the FW is having issues loading or something.
Problem solved finally. Something must have changed after this last flash attempt because now I was able to get into CWM of all things and recover my old backups. Nice little adventure that was. Thanks guys for the help!

I have a i9100M that I got recently.
I've been flashing a few different ICS ROMS to try with 100% success and the phone has been awesome.
Then I decided it was getting annoying installing and setting up all of my applications every time I switched to a new ROM so I figured I'd try using the Titanium Backup "All System Data and User Apps" backup and restore.
So I did that, after the restore was done (I went from CM9 to Resurrection Remix 2.5) Everything was working fine for a few minutes but when I was going through some of the RR2.5 settings, the phone suddenly reboot and is now stuck at the boot screen.
It will show the boot animation forever, I've left it for up to about an hour trying to boot.
I can get in to download mode and I've successfully flashed other mods, including a stock ICS image I found somewhere (it was a UK one but I figure that probably doesn't matter?) and they all will just get stuck at the boot animation forever.
Where do I go from here?? Thanks in advance!
If you can't get into recovery to do a factory reset, you only option is to flash something in download mode. If you want to use CM9, use the 'n00b proof' method on the first page of the CM9 discussion thread & flash the Resurrection edition, then the latest nightly & Gapps.
Or flash a stock rom in download mode with Odin, root your phone then restore a backup. Or you could also do a clean install of whatever custom rom you want once you've rooted your phone.

Hi MistahBungle, thanks for the quick response.
Is there by chance a stock rom that you can suggest? I tried one that I found through google and it flashed fine, but it still won't finish booting.

Try XWLPG. Although there are new roms uploaded by sammobile awhile ago. One thibg you did erong was you restored a system app. You shouldn't have done that.
Edit: Just to make sure, look at sammobile.com for the latest firmware for your phone. Although i9100 and i9100M is similar in hardware, better flash one that is specifically for your device

i've tried flashing several roms using cwm and through rom manager. every time i get stuck on the the samsung screen after reboot, which takes about 30 seconds after initiating flash. i've never had a problem installing anything on my phones or my nook color. it's been nothing but a paper weight for the last year and it's going to the landfill if i can't figure it out soon.
Did you try to wipe data/factory reset/ wip cachd and wipe dalvik?

How much you wait? After I flashed the Galaxy Task 14 room earlier this day it took several minutes to load.
Certain ROMS require an older version of CWM, such as CM9. If that is the latest version you have installed it may not work. Maybe try using ODIN to flash the recommended version (you can easily find that in the CM9 Nightly threads or simply by searching around)?

Can you link us to the CWM 5.8.3.1 recovery your using???
As far as I know this is the latest version of CWM http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2655 as of 6/30 and it's only 5.5.0.4.
As far as Googling is telling me...
1. It may be a touch recovery?
2. I couldn't find a many search returns that mentioned it being for Tab10.1s
3. The search returns I did find that mentioned Galaxy Tabs were in languages I don't read.
Just curious don't ya know...

okay. so i flashed 5.5.0.4 through odin then flashed aokp m4 plus gapps. all seemed to go well until boot time. i've been sitting at the samsung screen for a full 20 minutes now. i suppose my next course of action would be to revert to stock via odin and start the process over? i'd really like to use this thing but absolutely can't stand tw
you may have gotten a corrupt partition somewhere. I'd odin back to stock and start fresh. fwiw, I wouldn't trust ROM Manager for the latest recovery, it doesn't always have the correct file for your device. For example, for may particular phone Rom Manager had never worked properly and soft-bricks the phone every time.
Always check here on XDA for the proper recovery files for this device first.
that's all i needed to hear. now, can anyone point me in the direction of the file i need? my searches all point to S0ckM0nk3y's link which results in a 404 error
disregard my last post. i flashed sam's ics via odin. i'll play with it and try to like it. thank you sir
huh. still can't flash a custom rom...
Well, I don't know what I did but i was able to get MapleSyrup's CM10 preview to run. I'm happy for now
Are you doing a factory reset and wiping the cache in CWM before you flash? I always do that and then use titanium backup to restore my apps.
Also, what version of recovery are you using? I'm on CWM 5.5.0.4 which I've used to flash a couple of different roms, including the latest stock ICS from Toldo I think.
you can get it here and use ODIN to flash. Just make sure you download the correct version for your device:
http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2668
i had the same problem. i flash stock ics rom for my 7510. at first it looks fine until i try to reboot my tab. it starts to hang at the bootscreen. i try to reflash the rom via recovery but fail. try to install nandroid backup and also fail. the last resort is to do clean flash from odin. this thing happened 5 times in 3 days. one time after i install all the apps and try to restart my tab then it happened again, stuck at bootcscreen.
