Welcome to XDA!
This is the development forum, for posting of ROMs, Kernels, etc.
For Q&A, see here:

We are gonna need more info to answer your question. "it not letting you do it for some odd reason" tells us... nothing.

You should really read post#1 of a ROM thread. Flashing and no reading is no good. Miui doesn't support 4g. Just friendly advice.

Actually, its a better idea to leave it rooted and install a custom ROM rather than get the official OTA.

it should work for the stock browser. You could always try puffin or dolphin!

hi, could someone please explain what AOSP invertion is?

It's the mod in Sense revolution. It'll make your ROM look like the standard Android experience, and it will theme some apps.

Debranding
Hi, I have a Desire X with T-mobile branding, originally from Germany. I have rooted a Sensation before which should make me 1% less noob I guess... but I still have some questions.
Is it correct that I can debrand the phone by installing the original rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941895?
Do I need to root the phone before I can do that?
Thanks.

You mean getting rid of T-Mobile bloatware or SIM-unlocking? If you want to get rid of bloatware then just flash the RUU... If you want to SIM-unlock you need S-Off to flash a new CID, and there still isn't a method to S-Off this phone.

It's not sim-locked for some reason, it worked out-of-the-box with another provider. I just want to get rid of the customizations (like the android browser which is re-branded as "web 'n' walk"), the bloatware and the T-mobile splash screen when booting or switching off the phone.
So if you say "just flash the RUU", does that simply mean downloading the latest .exe (1.18.401.1) from that other thread, running it on a Windows PC and following the instructions?
Yeah, that should work just fine.

Well, first you have to plug in tje phone using USB...
A quick update... I haven't managed to flash the rom (yet)
I have seen many different errors tonight, like [170] USB connection error (caused by HTC drivers that could not be installed correctly), [131] Customer ID error (I got around that by unlocking the BL), and finally the [155] Unknown error. I tried both RUU's, software number 1.14.401.1 and 1.18.401.1. I'm afraid that may have to do with an incorrect CID (mine is T-MOB101) or with the software number which doesn't match my phone (1.14.111.1).
Anyway, the phone isn't bricked, so nothing was lost (except some time) but I'd love to hear if you have any other suggestions.

This. Do this.
Do not go rooting, flashing etc without a lot of reading. Search the forum and use Google. You can brick your phone, or end up with no backups and so on.
If you're that new to this, take your time and use caution.
There is no such thing as the best.
You can't flash Rom with stock recovery. Or do a nandroid backup. Or anything really.
There's no thing as "best ROM". Every rom is made for people with different tastes
