I believe that it now can be reset using triangle away, but your Knox counter will remain tripped.
As to whether it is OK not to reset it, until quite recently it was the only option available. At least now you have a choice in the matter.
Check the triangle away app page on the Play Store for details. The developer of the app provides a heavy dose of caution before using, but the device is listed as compatible.

Some of you may know that today Time Warner Cable enabled the capabilities of Android 4.0 devices to watch live through this app like Apple... Only issue, App says "Does not support rooted device" really!!! WTF!!! Thoughts??? Work around?

Live TV no. Just digital cable and road runner internet. As for the Dvr recording you just need a Dvr converter and digital cable.

[Q] Any bootloader checks in place to tell if I've rooted?

I've heard about phones that can't relock the bootloader after unlock, or that keep track of the number of rom flashes, as ways to tell if you have rooted(and thus voided your warranty). Are there any checks on the S3?
Yes
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Yes. There is a custom flash counter

Which phone do you have? I don't think is that easy on the S3.
Thanks for your help. Hopefully by the time I have the cash in august it'll be even easier to root without upping the count.

Reset binary counter?

Is there a way to reset the binary counter without a jig?

I usually avoid posting things like this, and let people more knowledgeable than me provide the stock "search the forum" answer, but moorecomp is right. Posts like these do give us noobs a bad reputation and as a result understandably make experienced users less willing to help newbies. I spent a long time lurking and reading non-stop before attempting my first root, and have continued to read on a daily basis to educate myself, even though I'm rooted and have had no problems so far (in fact, i am fairly sure that my lack of problems is precisely because i did spend a lot of time reading...). This is an answer anyone could get with just a cursory search. I have a similar reaction event time someone mentions ROM manager and the I777 on the same sentence.

Go to Play Store
Download "Force Jig Replacement" app
In app, go to settings> jig functions> binary counter reset
Concentrate really hard
The power of the force will reset the counter

If I had to guess I would say it wouldn't work for going back to stock or if it does you may have issues. May work for the alternate restore but not sure.

Trips your flash counter! Also a higher risk of bricks if the ROM builder goofed up.

Long as it is a completely stock image it won't. I don't think the route 66 version does either
Won't brick your device long as it is a .tar.md5 file or you make sure MD5 matches. Should be a tar.md5 file though.

To root or wait for a Knox fix?

I've been waiting to root cause of problems I saw from other people and cause twrp wasn't stable but know I see twrp is. But didn't know if they were working on a fix to get around knox?

If you can wait, wait... if not and you want to avoid the KNOX binary trigger, use Root de la Vega. @mjcollum posted a thread about it in our Sprint Note 3 forum, here.
Personally, I could care less about KNOX security so I used CF-AutoRoot and jumped into all the fun that can be had.

knox knox...who's there...FREEEEE TETHER!!!!!! thats why i rooted!
Yea I pretty much went the keep it as stock as possible route and went the vega route just to keep my options open in the future. At this point pretty much just running a stock system with vega root. Xposed modules.wifi mod. And massively debloated. Seems ideal for me at this time. That way I can still go either way as development progresses . Return to complete stock. Or go all out with roms.
From my Note 3 using Tapatalk
Just rooted yesterday with the vega root, and you can still have wifi tethering with stock, and no knox trip either! Im still getting anxious to start flashing lol!

That's how I feel.. This is the first phone I didn't root the second it was available. . I would rather not trip Knox not cause of warrantee but for the unknown of what effect that might have down the road. Will this self destruct in a month .. Who knows. . Have read horror stories of what manufactures can do with this stuff. . Don't feel like destroying my baby.. I want to start working on my own rom so so so so bad. . It is killing me. .
