Does anyone have any recommendations for the best ROM/kernels for battery life. I switched from MeanBean recently to some CM10 (DU) and CM11 (carbon) based stuff, and my battery life has been pretty bad. Sometimes near 20%/hr. Could always go back to Mikey's ROM, but I wanted to play around with stuff like HALO while still having enough juice to use it as a daily driver.

Hey guys,
I finally installed CM7 a few days a go (nightly #74), and I'm very pleased with it. The only downside, really, is the battery life. It's usable, but it drains at least 40% faster than Samsung-based ROMs.
Most of the power seems to be going to Cell Standby. I hear some of the custom kernels can improve things a lot.
Could those of you who have experimented with different kernels give me a good recommendation for a kernel and/or modem release which will work well? I just don't have time to spend hours digging through hundred-page forum posts these days...
Thanks in advance!
Glitch is good. Battery will be a bit better with a custom kernel but it still won't be as good as Froyo. Just the way it is.
What's your cell standby reading? Percentage of battery use? Also of android system and OS,?

i recommend NEO 9 v5 it has great battery life and its really smooth it comes with led version and no-led
When I ran CM7 Nightlies a while back I always stayed on the Stock Kernel. I guess that since Kernels aren't updated "Nightly" like the Nightlies you shouldn't use other ones. Just my personal preference.
Stock kernel is more stable but other kernels give better battery an there much smoother

I'm on SOAB right now but I find the battery draining way too quick for my liking. To date, which would you guys recommend? With or without Sense.
I think all the recent stock releases, including MR4, have pretty good battery life. That means Roms based on those, hopefully, have good battery life also. I find AOSP ROMs about 10 to 20% worse on battery life.
Just pick a good rom based on the latest release, potentially with the stock kernel, and you should be good to go. And get a rezound battery while you are at it. Good luck.

I am running on an Xperia Mini Pro and have tried just about every custom ROM available.
What is the best one for battery life?
FXP (CM 7.2 and 9.0) seem equally bad so far, usually lasting slightly less than a day with very little use. I find that my phone tends to get warm when running these ROMs.
Nero ICS and Hybro ICS seemed to give me between a day and two days.
I can get 2-3 days out of Sony's stock ICS ROM and about the same out of their stock GB rom.
Does anyone have any tips on increasing battery life? I usually run Juice Defender. Why do custom ROMs suffer from such poor battery life compared to Sony's stock ROMs?

Thanks,
Tim

Hey,
I would say for the moment stock ICS is the best your going to get. If you want to stay with ICS?
Dont use task killers or anything like that they waste more battery than they save and they mess with android native tasking. Juice defender, I dont know much about it but so I wont comment, but I would say that if you turn off wifi and BT and things when you aren't using then you shouldn't need anything to make your battery last longer. Also make sure the wifi sleep policy is set to 'always stay on' and yeah that should be about it tbh.
Cheers,
Evil

Please just try some and find the best kernel for your usage. We are not allowed to talk about best kernel/rom
What the RC posted above here....Thanks.
I'm getting really bad battery life on cm9
Any suggestion for a battery friendly rom?
every rom runs differently on each phone so its hard to recomend one. have you tried a different kernel for cm9. change the govenors, io shedules, undervolt or underclock. also depends on your usage and apps installed. cm9 as a base should give you good battery life.
Can't say that there is a "Best" anything. As stated above roms have different outcomes depending on the phone. I am running Gubment Cheeze Build B1.1. I have had great battery life out of it. Extremely great life during sleep. I am hooked to wifi about 22 hours a day. I use bluetooth about 2 hours a day. I do not oc/uv .. or change anything about it... use it like it is right out of the box. If you want to try it .. I am sure you will like it.

I miss the old AOSP roms I became accustomed to on my Nexus phones (Specifically AOKP). The last time I tried any (about 2 months ago), they couldn't begin to compare with the TW base (stock modified) roms in terms of Battery life. Well, today I about had it with my TW rom, so I was considering giving AOSP another try. Has anyone found a stable one that can still give me 6-7 hours on screen time?
All AOSP ROMs will provide about the same battery life. Pick whichever you like, CM will be similar to AOKP, Pacman, etc. The same goes for TouchWiz ROMs, they will all offer more or less the same battery life. Not sure you'll get better battery life on AOSP than TW, but no one AOSP ROM is going to significantly better than another with regards to battery life.

My experience with the non-TW roms is that they (counter-intuitively) provided significantly worse battery life. I was hoping that was because of their relative immaturity at the time I tried them ( a few months ago). Since I am not the sort that likes to switch roms every few days, I was hoping some people had some recommendations as to which had finally improved their battery life to be on-par with the stock based roms.
They are all going to be relatively the same. As one ROM includes fixes, it propagates out to the others. IMO, CM10.1 is probably going to be the most "mature" as that is likely where most of the updates come from, but if you're looking for a bug free experience, it's likely best to stick with TW.
Carbon has same battery life for me as touch wiz ROMs. However it does use the trinity kernel. The only aosp ROM that does. I'm running it still to this day. Like it.

My opinion probably doesn't mean much, but Carbon is my choice for AOSP. I've seen it pull about the same screen time for a battery charge as my Beans12 load. To each their own. :good:
