From what I know, unlocked bootloader means, X-Reality no longer works and OTA updates will not install.

You can always downgrade to .532 and root from there, then back up the TA, then unlock the bootloader. The TA will allow you to restore the DRM keys and Xreality when you relock the bootloader
Read my guide on downgrading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593918
and then read lordmanhatton's guide for root etc http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904

just use the one kinked in my guide, it has been made for the purpose of downgrading from 290 to 532 and keeping the phone in a functioning state.
You dont need to flash a German ftf when upgrading either, just a generic or CE/EU will do fine unless there are some must have German only Sony app

If you want to install a kernel like lupus, first you need to unlock your bootloader. Use this tool to unlock it.

The risk of brick your device, but a lot of people already unlocked their bootloaders without any problems, your DRM will be permanently deleted, but believe me you can get more from your phone when the bootloader is unlocked, really worth it.

And you loose your warranty
Drm won't be lost if you unlock using testpoint method.
Regards
-N
First check the bootloader status.whether its unlocked or not.
If its already unlocked then you can flash any custom kernel. If not you have to unlock BL first. Its not harmful but it will avoid your phone warranty.Try to use SE web site to unlock BL.Its the safest way..
After unlocking BT u can flash kernels anytime using Flash toolâ„¢..
Re:How to install a kernel
To install a custom kernel, you have to unlock your bootloader and there are two ways of doing it:
1.Use the official sony method...
head to unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the procedure there..
by doing so you lose your DRM keys which means services like track id wont work anymore...
2.use a testpoint method which is a bit complicated but you retain your DRM keys
for the testpoint method check this out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874
Bootloader unlocking should be done carefully, you might brick your phone if you are not careful..
after the unlock is complete you can use flashtool to flash a custom kernel in fastboot mode..

Just use Flash Tool to re-lock back - http://www.flashtool.net/
By the way, you already unlock, no point you re-lock back, it still warranty void and Bravia Engine 2 / X-Reality won't coming back for photo view in album even you re-lock back.
The Bravia Engine 2 / X-Reality only can remain if you had backup TA before, but since now the only root need unlocked the bootloader 1st, which means you can't do TA backup anymore as TA backup do need root access on device that never unlocked the bootloader for it.
Thank to your help but flashtool not support my phone and I unlocked with fastboot.please give me a way to relock my phone with fastboot please. then I thank to you a lotIm sory for my bad English language.

has nothing to do with locked bootloader from what I've read. You just need to downgrade to 4.4.2
See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790679, and ask for the zip from @ddslee
Hi everyone. I want to backup TA partition, but I have some questions.
My XZU is C6833 model, build number 14.3.A.0.681, KK 4.4.2. Absolutely stock ROM.
As shown here, my phone must be rooted to perform a TA backup.
But as you can see, getting root requires unlocked bootloader... but unlocking bootloader without TA backup will lead to DRM keys loss
There's a similar question for Z1.
Am I right? And what I have to do? Downgrade?
Thanks a lot!
i downgrade mine to 4.2.2 first then use the vroot apps to root my phone without unlock bootloader.

SOLVED. It's need to downgrade to .532 build via Flashtool, get root, and go back to .681
HOWTO (russian lang).
Without unlocking bootloader.

The only way without downgrade is to unlock bootloader and flash a custom kernel.

Would that be better or should I downgrade, will it be worth?
It's better to go with the downgrade method rather than unlocking the bootloader and loosing warranty+drm keys. Once you root your device, the first thing you have to do is to backup your TA partition.
it is possible now??
If you have an unlocked bootloader, yes.
Otherwise you'll have to wait till someone comes up with a root method which could take a lot of time or no time at all.
On the same boat. I haven't unlocked the bootloader and I intend to keep avoiding it, so I'm waiting for someone to come up with rootkit or root method before flashing marshmallow.
