The only way without downgrade is to unlock bootloader and flash a custom kernel.

Would that be better or should I downgrade, will it be worth?
It's better to go with the downgrade method rather than unlocking the bootloader and loosing warranty+drm keys. Once you root your device, the first thing you have to do is to backup your TA partition.

If you want to install a kernel like lupus, first you need to unlock your bootloader. Use this tool to unlock it.

Thanks man, But which are the risks of unlock my bootloader?

The risk of brick your device, but a lot of people already unlocked their bootloaders without any problems, your DRM will be permanently deleted, but believe me you can get more from your phone when the bootloader is unlocked, really worth it.

And you loose your warranty
Drm won't be lost if you unlock using testpoint method.

First check the bootloader status.whether its unlocked or not.
If its already unlocked then you can flash any custom kernel. If not you have to unlock BL first. Its not harmful but it will avoid your phone warranty.Try to use SE web site to unlock BL.Its the safest way..
After unlocking BT u can flash kernels anytime using Flash toolâ„¢..
Re:How to install a kernel
To install a custom kernel, you have to unlock your bootloader and there are two ways of doing it:
1.Use the official sony method...
head to unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the procedure there..
by doing so you lose your DRM keys which means services like track id wont work anymore...
2.use a testpoint method which is a bit complicated but you retain your DRM keys
for the testpoint method check this out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874
Bootloader unlocking should be done carefully, you might brick your phone if you are not careful..
after the unlock is complete you can use flashtool to flash a custom kernel in fastboot mode..
I just bought new ZXU and I want to root the only way to do it is to unlocked bootloader

From what I know, unlocked bootloader means, X-Reality no longer works and OTA updates will not install.

You can always downgrade to .532 and root from there, then back up the TA, then unlock the bootloader. The TA will allow you to restore the DRM keys and Xreality when you relock the bootloader
Read my guide on downgrading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593918
and then read lordmanhatton's guide for root etc http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904

just use the one kinked in my guide, it has been made for the purpose of downgrading from 290 to 532 and keeping the phone in a functioning state.
You dont need to flash a German ftf when upgrading either, just a generic or CE/EU will do fine unless there are some must have German only Sony app
Hi everyone. I want to backup TA partition, but I have some questions.
My XZU is C6833 model, build number 14.3.A.0.681, KK 4.4.2. Absolutely stock ROM.
As shown here, my phone must be rooted to perform a TA backup.
But as you can see, getting root requires unlocked bootloader... but unlocking bootloader without TA backup will lead to DRM keys loss
There's a similar question for Z1.
Am I right? And what I have to do? Downgrade?
Thanks a lot!
i downgrade mine to 4.2.2 first then use the vroot apps to root my phone without unlock bootloader.

yes downgrade to root, NO don't use vroot - use Bin4ry's root tool (opt 0)
root doesn't needs unlock

SOLVED. It's need to downgrade to .532 build via Flashtool, get root, and go back to .681
HOWTO (russian lang).
Without unlocking bootloader.
Hi, sorry but I'm confused reading about rooting in regards to DRM keys, TA partitions and what method works with the latest firmware.
I've upgraded my firmware to the latest generic. 314 AU firmware and my phone came with the bootloader unlocked.
I want to root now and am confused as to whether I will
1.lose warranty
2.be able to restore to factory if I need to send it back for repairs
3.lose anything else
4.what method I need to use to get root with my firmware.
Thanks

Do you mean that your phone's bootloader is unlockable (i.e. can be unlocked if you wish) or do you mean that it has already been unlocked?
You'll lose warranty only if the bootloader has been unlocked. If you just root the phone (and keep the bootloader locked), then you still have your warranty.
You can restore to factory simply by using the repair function in PC Companion.
Root will not cause you to lose anything. But unlocking the bootloader will remove the DRM keys and TA partition.
Use the rootkitXperia tool to root your phone.
Sorry, I meant the bootloader is allowed to be unlocked, it isn't unlocked yet.
Do I even need to unlock it seeings as you can get root without unlocking it?

you do not need to unlock your bootloader for many things
-root
-recovery
-stock based roms
-mods
-root apps
-etc
flashing a custom kernel or non stock based rom requires you to unlock your bootloader, as flashing a kernel or non stock based custom rom will brick your device

Ahh ok. I essentially want root for a couple of mods and root apps as well as ad blocking.
So if I decide in the future to try a custom rom then I should unlock the bootloader before doing so?

Right. But before unlocking bootloader make sure to backup your TA partition so your DRM keys and other essential files needed for warranty is still intact. You can use TA Backup tool to unlock and re-lock BL.
Re-locking bootloader will bring back your warranty but once you unlock your bootloader and you did not back it up, you cannot bring back and you'll permanently loose warranty.

i mean Will instead of may.
flashing a custom kernel or non stock based rom to a device with a locked bootloader will brick your device.
english isnt my strong suit, i know that "may" isnt a solid word, will is more solid implying that it will always happen...

that doesnt make sense to me
it fails to boot, you can flash a kernel on a locked bootloader, the signature verifacation i do belive just doesnt like non existant or custom signatures
the result is a soft bricked device, its why i said it will brick your device, i may not have specified weather it was a soft or a hardbrick because both can happen from flashing a Rom or a Kernel to a device which its not ment for
im having trouble understanding you here?
my point being that you cant flash a Z2 rom or kernel to a Z1 and you cant flash a Z1 rom to a Z, cross-flashing isnt somethig to ever do

Sorry it's me who's got it wrong, I assumed by brick you'd meant hard brick and I'd misunderstood the issue with flashing kernel on bootloader locked devices.
So let's agree, Don't try and flash kernels or custom roms with custom kernels on locked bootloader devices.
