Youtube works okay on my KFHDX 7 stock ROM, but will not work on my aosp 4.2.2. Thor Rom. It goes to the youtube site, but when I select a video it just hangs with a rotating circle on a black screen. I can stream from, for example, ESPNPlayer with no problem using Firefox. Uninstalled it and re-installed but no luck. Unistalled and installed the previous version of Youtube, but it updated almost immediately so could not check if it is a problem with the updated version. As always, help will be very much appreciated.

unless you have the second version of said ROM, youtube will not work, as no media works. If you update the ROM, youtube will work, but you'll have to come up with some workarounds for dealing with not having system dialogs (they're invisible). I am using it successfully, but I have a high tolerance for things like that.
Youtube update will not work
Okay. Many thanks for the info - appreciated

Another silly n00b question...
Stock ROM, no changes have been made on my gTablet. When I go to YouTube.com, and try to watch a video, I get the error message, "Cannot play video. Sorry, this video cannot be played." Am I supposed to have some sort of an app for playing the videos on YouTube? [I have Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installed, in case that info is helpful to you.]
Thanks for all of your help, wonderful folks at xda-developers!!! I promise, as soon as I can watch YouTube videos, can change the wallpaper (that's more of a "want" than a "need"), and can find an app that works that will show me a count for multiple Gmail AND POP3 email accounts (a definite "need"), I'll be done asking you guys my silly questions! I promise!!
Did you do the OTA(over the AIR) update? Try this first and reboot.
Thanks you for responding, tings. Yes, I DID do the OTA days ago and have have since powered my gTablet off and on quite a few times. it is showing the new updated version, as well. So that's not it. I DI manage to see one (random) YouTube video, but it was so choppy I couldn't hear or see (or understand) a word of it. I just tried to go to YouTube again and wastch a ViewSonic G Tablet video, and again received the "Sorry, this video cannot be played." I seem to not have something installed to play them.
Did you try YouTube native app? Did you also look into browser setting? You might consider downloading flash 10.2.
I myself having pixelation problem with flash video in my tntlite 4.4 win flash 10.2. My mom's stock ROM with flash 10.1 has no issue with pixpixelation.
Sorry, i am noob too.
Try downloading flash 10.2.
Thank you tings and Enectic, for responding! I will do that, and will tell you what happens!
Cool. Let us know.
Well, I had to get the apps store fix done first. Did that, and now have market and gmail and places and maps and a whole bunch of OTHER apps I don't want on my gTablet. Then I went to the market and it couldn't find flash 10.2 (or any other versions). Then I searched for a few other apps I was interested in looking at (like Gmail Unread Count), and it didn't find THOSE either. I'm having a very unproductive day and am getting frustrated. I've been working on finding answers to my questions for 7.25 hours, and have come up empty. I can't figure out how to install my own wallpaper design, I can't watch YouTube videos without getting an error code, and I haven't found an app that will tell me how many unread emails I have in my POP and GMail accounts. I'm 0 for 3 today!
You didn't have to do the market fix to get 10.2. Here's a link to a direct download. Just download and run it directly from your G-Tablet or download it to your computer then transfer it to your G-Tablet.
http://www.mascobz.com/direct-download-flash-10-2-apk-for-motorola-xoom/
THANK YOU, Enectic! I appreciate your getting me the link. And yes, I now have all this other stuff I don't need on my gTab. I guess I'll leave it there for a while , and if I don't use it, I'll remove it. [I "thanked" you on the Thank meter!] Wow, maybe I'll now be 1 for 3 today, on my list of things I wanted to do with my new gTablet!
Adobe Flash v10.2 installed (from my PC to the gTab), and it's showing as installed and the correct version on the applications listing in the settings, but I'm still getting the "Sorry, this video cannot be played" error message when I go to YouTube and choose some random videos. Any other suggestions?
No prob, sorry it still didn't end up working for you though. I'm a new G Tablet owner too so still learning myself. Not sure what to tell you, hopefully someone else will be able to help you with your problem.
I have the same issue with the updated OS and YouTube. Is this related to the tablet having no official Flash support?
I am having a similar problem with the videos on my woot tablet. Sometimes they will play and the next time won't. Will never play the king Kong video and once I try and get the error then no vids will play without powering off.
Edit: My second woot tab with no ota works fine. Only a problem on the one I flashed to 3588 since updater down. Now flashed to two taps 9.02 and still the same trouble.
Try this fix in the browser
I went round and round with the Adobe Flash problems. Then I saw a post that said this:
Open the browser
Make sure the full menus are showing (with the address bar showing)
Touch the settings icon to the far right of the address bar
You will three "modes" for viewing among the settings
Select the radio button for "Desktop" viewing
Return to the browser
I did this and what-do-you-know, flash-based movies starting working!
BTW, I received the OTA 4349 update and afterwards, I noticed that I could then use "Tablet" viewing in the browser and the flash movies still worked.
Hopes this helps!

Have you checked your browser setting to make sure you are viewing in desktop display rather than tablet or phone. That was my problem when I had a similar problem.
Has anyone had issue with the audio being out of sync with the video while on Youtube in the browser? I don't know if I had this issue from the start or not (only had my nook a few days) or if it's the result of a sideloaded app.
I did try to install the youtube app and it kept crashing constantly. I uninstalled that app and now I'm wondering if it messed something up.
What would be the best way to "fix" this assuming it isn't a normal thing.
Thanks,
Rick

I had this problem and once I updated the Flash player things were fixed.
I have version 11.1.102.59
Get "Tubemate" off the market. Its much better than the youtube app and watching them imbedded.
Some reason on my device both embedded and the youtube app compress my videoo, even when i select 720p. With tubemate you get full HD quality.
Please for give the noob questions, but here goes.

I'm not rooted. Can the flash apk be gotten somewhere other than android market? I couldn't find it on amazon market but I'll keep looking elsewhere.

I'll look into that, I'm pretty sure it's available on amazon market.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I did some experimenting since my original post.
I decided to do a factory restore since I wanted to be sure it was something I did that caused the behavior. After the restore, I noticed the NT went to the mobile youtube (I then remembered I had switched it into destop mode before) which played video flawlessly. Everything was in perfect sync. I then changed to desktop mode for the full youtube and again, w/o any other applications installed, the audio was at least 1/2 second out of sync with the video. This again was directly after the factory restore without any extra apps installed.
Rick
The mobile is less taxing on the system then the full site and upgrading flash would help as well. Mobile might be using a different flash version then the full site as well since its made to run on weaker hardware then the full site is. Im sure you could find the latest version of flash if you searched google for the flash.apk
Hey guys,
I'm using the weekly posted in the subject line, and YouTube doesn't work as expected. Does anyone know of a fix?
Does the new 7.2 RC1 support it?
I can confirm it works flawlessly at the new 7.2 RC1, which by far, is one of the best and more complete roms ever tried. Specially battery life is just amazing.
Hope to help!
Awesome, looks like it's time to update.
Thanks!
So I updated to RC1, currently on faux's kernel.
YouTube still doesn't work, I tried clearing data too.

I was having a problem with it also on rc1. Videos wouldn't play, clicking links just gave me the loading circle. I forced closed, cleared cache, cleared data and uninstalled. Went to play store and reinstalled, and now it works flawlessly. Maybe the same steps will help you.

Alright so I just did that, videos play now but I'm still unable to play in HD over wifi. Does HD work for you?

I haven't tried that. Ill give it a whirl and get back to you.
Edit: works for me.
I just get the message saying "There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry."
It doesn't show up when I turn HD off though.
I don't know if this helps, but I have my LCD Density set at 200. It's strange though, because when I first flashed RC0, YouTube worked fine. Then I believe there was an update, and it was downhill after that.

I haven't changed any LCD settings, so whatever is standard in rc1, that's what mines set at.
The LCD settings never seemed to affect it before, strange.
Ok some browsers e.g default and Dolphin use built in video player to stream youtube videos hence the circle (which is singe of loading) and usually youtube app dont kick in automatically when u open a youtube link (in opera it does kick in auto)
But on its own youtube app is working perfect (no problems what so ever)
My youtube app doesn't kick in at all for HD videos, but if I turn it off it works.
It sucks because I tend to watch everything in HD...
So opening a link from a browser works, but not the app itself. I see the kicking in concept now.
Anyone ever find a fix?
Everything works fine within dolphin browser, just not the app.
I am running a WIP build of CM11.0 on my Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet. It runs FLAWLESSLY, except for one small, but extremely important issue. Every time I try to load up YouTube videos, be it on the YouTube app, stock browser, Chrome, Opera, etc., not one video actually loads. I have an infinite loading circle. I have tried everything: rebooting, wiping the app's data, uninstalling the app, reinstalling gapps and my ROM, wiping my data/system/cache and reflashing my ROM, even using an older version of CM10.1.3. I'm starting to think it might be a problem with the new YouTube app, but my confusion stems from the fact that NOT ONE YOUTUBE VIDEO LOADS ON ANY BROWSER OR APP. Any fixes would be greatly appreciated.

It is the ROM version, something with the kernel. You aren't the only one who has this problem.
But, there is a CM11 nightly that works perfectly for me, YouTube and all. Install this build: 11-20140119-NIGHTLY-acclaim.
Edit: Never mind, it doesn't seem to be on the downloads page anymore. Try the next higher one, 11-2014129.

Hi,
I have two SGP 4.2 players, both running the enhanced stock ROM. Recently, my daughter and I have had issues with the Youtube app on both players where it causes the player to reboot every time you try to go back to the app menu from a video. Has anyone else experienced this?
On one player, I tried uninstalling the updates to get it back to the factory version, but then the player said youtube was not installed even though the app icon was still present. A reboot made it disappear and then I could reinstall, but the issue persisted.
On the other player, I uninstalled the app completely via ES File Explorer system apps. The issue persisted after the reinstall of the app.
I have tried clearing the app storage and cache. I have tried, via recovery, clearing the system cache and dalvik.
None of these options resolve the issue. A number of reviews in the Google Play store indicate that others are having the same issues, but nobody seems to have suggestions on how to fix it.
I've search the SGP forums here at XDA, but can't see any reference.
The next thing I will try will be to pull the youtube.apk from the original ROM zip file and reinstall it that way. The original ROM version did not crash.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or success resolving the issue?
Thanks,
C.
EDIT: I pulled the apk from the ROM zip and it seems to work fine. Over the holidays I plan to dig into an apk archive to find a newer version without issues.
I have the same issue, although it doesn't happen every time. I confirm that it didn't occur with the older versions of youtube, and I've never found a solution for this

Resurecting this. I tried all of the 2.3.6 compatible versions of Youtube I could find at apkmirror.com including 5.0.21, 5.1.10, 5.2.27, 5.3.23, 5.3.32, 5.5.26, and 5.5.27, all with the same issue.
I am still looking for versions in the 4.xx series. The version contained in the ROM that does work is 2.4.4.
I know I've had a version that's worked that's newer than 2.4.4, I just don't know which one! I'll keep digging when I have more time.
EDIT: I've also tried androidsandwich.com, but can't seem to d/l any of the apks from there. I'll try later with a different browser and keep digging for an alternative source.
EDIT-2: v4.5.17 from androiddrawer.com seems to be stable.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715 this one has given me no problems. You get the extra benefit of being able to select 720p (The regular app won't let us, since our device's screen is not 720p. However, 720p on our devices looks much better than 480p because it streams at a higher bitrate. Plus this has off screen play back.

That's the only one that has worked without restating my player. The 720p option is awesome but I feel that it lags to much with my 4.2 player.
