[Q] Can anybody modify modem.bin - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hello
I am using i777 modem but this AT&T modem on restarting phone goes to GSM/WCDMA (Auto) mode of network. I think this is because it is written in modem file of its modem. So I want to modify the modem.zip file for setting GSM as default mode.
Can anybody tell how to modify or can give modified file i777 UCKH7 Modem as downloaded from link below

Thanks

It is not hard coded into the modem. It is a setting.

You could search something like "I777 force 2g", but I think you will find that it has to be coded into the firmware, because AT&T doesn't want you to do that. You can probably set to 2g through the service menu. I don't know which settings, though. I did find the following:
*#197328640# in your dialer will open the service menu
Debug Screen->Phone Control->Network Control->Aquisition Order->GSM->UMTS
In that screen you can set it to aquire gsm before umts

Also there is an option to set preferred network type by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and then tap Device information, scroll down and there is a selection box to make ur choice.
Not sure how to make the set choice stick though. It changes, after reboot or if u back out of the Device info, back to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL).
?? Don't know much about this...may be sim dependant as to what will stick. :/

I am not expert but have ported i9100 JB Neat Rom on my i777 with i777UCKH7 modem and Jeboo Kernel v2.2+. If the network settings were from ROM then it should have worked as i9100 has no such problem. But it is with my i777 so it comes from either modem or Kernel. On i777 option also work with *#2263# along with *#197328640# but problem is same on restart phone goes to default option. In i727 if we change network option via dialer then option is retained even after restart. please see if it can be fixed in i777 by ROM or Modem or Kernel modification.
Thanks.

My (limited) understanding of this issue is that it can be coded into the firmware. Evidently, CyanogenMod at some point in time did have a setting to force 2g on the I777. But this is dependent on the developer of the rom having an interest in doing this specific modification. Now-a-days there are not too many developers actively working on firmware for the I777. Most of them have moved on to newer phones. So if it isn't already there, I doubt you'll get it.

No APN in mobile settings on ICS

I tried flashing KB5 modem on the AOKP rom for the T-Mobile Vibrant but I cannot seem to bring up anything. Does anyone know if I can input a custom APN that will connect to T-mobile or will I have to give them a call.
Manually input the apn settings.

Also make sure you flashed the ICSKB5 and not the regular normal one.

Phone unlocked (AT&T give code) but APN not editable?

I have unlocked my AT&T Galaxy Note by requesting the SIM unlock code from AT&T. I then put in a non-AT&T card (T-Mobile), rebooted the phone and was asked for the network unlock code. I entered the code and it was successful. The T-Mobile SIM card works.
I then went to the APN settings to edit the APN and there was only one, the original one from AT&T (shown as ATT PTA). Strangely, this APN CANNOT be edited OR DELETED. Even when I create a new one and select that new APN, the phone always revert back to the original APN.
My understanding is that once the phone is unlocked, the original APN can be edited OR deleted and I can use another APN (T-mobile, etc.). Can somebody help?
Thanks!
Unlocking the phone does not unlock software areas that att has locked down. Good news is that you can add your own apn in that screen.
On the APN setting screen, press the menu button, then "new apn". Type all of your settings, then hit menu and save. Now you can select your new apn on the APN screen.
You don't have to worry about the pta apn from att. If it's not selected, it's not doing anything.

Thanks for the explanation! As long as I can use the phone in NON-AT&T network, I am happy.
To eliminate that APN you will have to flash a custom rom. You can be stock and custom.

Up until about a month ago that was correct, but t-mobile is migrating to the same bands as at&t so test the connection first.
Just using the stock LF6 modem and the t-mobile APN and live with that for a day or two to see if you are in an area that has been migrated.
If you never see H+ or 4G icons you will have to flash the Blaze modem.
Just a quick update:
The original APN cannot be edited, so I created a new APN and select that. When I press the "back" button and go back to the list of APN, the phone AUTOMATICALLY selected the original APN, not mine.
I selected that again, press back button and waited for 5 minutes (in case the phone trying to update whatever it needs with the new APN). Went back to the list of APN and the original APN was selected again! (???).
Did you save the APN you created?

I did, that's why I was able to select the radio button from the list. So the list shows 2 APN, BUT as soon as I exit, the default APN was reselected.
In this case, a custom rom is needed for APN changes to stick.
I suggest you look in the super thread (top of the general section)
In the stock roms category you'll see a stock (rooted) version of the rom you need.
You can flash this build which allows APN editing and deletion.
Visually the rom is identical to stock, but sets the system permissions via root access to allow those changes.
Once the modification is complete, you can simply reset your counter and unroot to keep a stock device condition.
The beauty of this device is it's simplicity in root/unroot technique...g
Ranger gets the credit for the rom change advice.....I'm just mentioning it again ...g
Thanks for the information all, really helpful!
I flashed a custom ROM just for testing (CWR backup of course) and indeed I was able to change the APN and it sticks! Definitely have to do with my original stock ICS, even though I rooted it.
You can be mostly stock - - that's what I prefer. But our generous developers take the stock rom and tweak it so we can enjoy modifying our phones and be mostly stock. I'm using the Novena rom.

Well, which carrier are you using? If you are not able to download the settings, contact your carrier operator and tell him your phone model and ask them to send settings for it. If they refuse, don't worry, the best option is to search your APN settings on Google of your carrier and enter them manually.

Note 3 settings missing menus?

hiya guys,
I've been having a lot of problems the past couple days..
I ordered my note 3 straight from Sprint. When I got it, I flashed custom recovery and flashed Freezas stockish ROM. The phone came loaded with NAB so I installed the
NAB version of the ROM, well there was some missing menus in settings, like tethering and such.. So I flashed stock nc5 and flashed his engineering boot loader. Ugraded my firmware to nc5. Flashed the nc5 version of the ROM and still the same settings.. No WiFi calling in settings, no tethering options at all.. I got curious and decided to flash KitKatkiller to see if it had the same problems, it was the same thing in the settings in kitkatkiller except it showed the ROM manager and stuff that was added into the ROM. But was missing tethering.. I hit WiFi hotspot in the toggle like I did on freezas ROM and it said hotspot not supported..
But josh's ROM is deodexed with that mod included.
What is going on?
Try this

Similar things have happened for me, I've found that un-rooting doing a factory reset back to stock OEM rom then rooting again and flashing your preferred custom rom fixes things.
Hope this helps,

I'll try that. Out of curiosity I opened a phone up at work to see if it had tethering on stock and the note 3 I opened had the same settings my note 3 has.. So I dont know what the problem is.. I wonder if those settings dont show up unless the phone is activated on the network.

Hi guys I know your problem.
Csc stuff needs stock recovery to be proberly applied in my experience. I can factory reset phone to different csc (XAS for example) and have sprint hotspot and usb tethering options removed from menu.
Set csc to SPR and power off phone. Power back on to stock recovery and you should see something along the lines of "applying csc SPR"
If menus have not been added at this point factory reset may be in order with correct csc applied.
Once you have these menus added in THEN odin the custom recovery you want.
Good luck!

I used galaxytool.apk it shows XAS
Actually it(SM-N900P) is flashed to Reliance CDMA here in india to use it with RCDMA RUIM
Device is Stock, as it can be seen in status.
Someone told me that it is not activated on Sprint so no boot logo of sprint & no tethering & Hotspot option without activation on sprint,
My device's rom is NC5 Stock Rooted
I m new to all this, so pls suggest me step by step guide to get hotspot option.

If your phone is flashed to another carrier and you didn't do it yourself you probably just want to leave it how it is.
XAS wont display sprint boot and power down animations. The phone comes with 4 different ones. sprint, samsung, boost, and virgin that can all be set. XAS gives you the samsung one.(like debranded phone)
But yea unless you know the process to setup the phone for reliance or have someone who can do it again for you I would advise to leave it alone.
But if you are brave take an nv backup in dfs or qpst's software download (even better would be to dd these partitions [mmcblk0p12 13 &18]) and only then take the steps I mentioned previously with the stock recovery. Alternately get a nandroid from someone on the same software version. You will probably want to have sprintdm.apk removed to be safe. Either way take nv backup before moving forward especially if you don't know how to flash a phone to reliance.
**edit**
Go into apn's and write down your settings for them. and BE ADVISED the "enable hotspot" in my app is for phones on Sprint only!
Once you get the menu items added we (should hopefully) be able to enable them.

I have changed its NV to "RUIM only" after changing it to SPR.
I have rebboted in stock recovery right now.
Pressed powe+volume up+home button
Get into stock recovery
Pressed power button to reboot....

Should i have to change CSC again through galaxytool.apk/Preconfigure/SPR/INSTALL?
It's now showing SPR as i can see in preconfigure.

Odin stock tar for the exact software version you are on now and then reboot to recovery. If mps_code is set to SPR before odin'ing the tar you will get these menus added.
Hello @idone
I have read in xda LG G2 forums that replacing carrier folder of unactivated phone with sprint activated devices enable csc features.
If this can be done with SM-N900P?
Thanks
