[ROM][CM][Nightly/Release] CarbonRom KitKat [hammerhead] - Nexus 5 Android Development

About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub. and on our Gerrit CarbonDev Gerrit.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.
Who is Team Carbon?
Find out here:
Carbon Team
Remember, every penny you send to us goes right back into the rom. It's used for hardware, server costs, etc - all the things that help us make Carbon better with every release. Your support means the world to us! If you've enjoyed Carbon, please consider a donation toward this goal. Thank you, and we hope you continue to enjoy Carbon!

[KK][STOCK]Kernel Development

I'm currently looking for people that have some knowledge on developing kernels for the G2. At least the basic stuff like compiling them from source, handling toolchains and working with github. I know a bit of everything but still have a lot to learn and would like to share ideas and hopefully come up with a project between a couple fellas.
Anyone interested feel free to contact me via PMs or on this thread. TIA to anyone who cooperates
If there's a group already doing this I'd be glad to join too.

[IMP] Need opinion about donation for development

8. Donations.
"We appreciate all donations to XDA-Developers.com as it helps to keep our forum online and well maintained. As a user, you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work, however donations up front are not allowed. This forum is about sharing and not about getting paid to do something... that is what your job is for."

To moderators
First of all I am sorry for creating this thread here which should be in general section. But as most of the people visit development section so I just want that people should notice this thread and give their valuable opinion. When time will come I will request to move this thread to general section
To all xda mi3/mi4 users
My name is Vishal. I am using mi3 since almost 1 year. After sources released by xiaomi the development of custom roms and kernels was really superb. Even still our developers like audihaudi, bitti and many others working really hard to give bugless roms to us. But after recently developer like varun.chitre, jackeagle and gnome left the development. Look like we need a very expert helping hand to deal with very core problems/bugs that we are facing right now and to support our device's development for a long time with best updates. We all agree that camera quality of mi3 on custom roms is below average. Also bugs like SOD after call, no sim bug are very annoying issue that we are dealing right now.
So I contacted a developer dhiru1602[/] who has a very good experience with kernel as well cm rom development especially with CM sources and CM based rom. Also he is official maintainer and developer of nameless rom for many devices which are
Samsung galaxy s3
Samsung galaxy note 2
Nexus 4
Galaxy SL i9003
Optimus L9
Optimus P760
Optimus P765
Optimus P768
Optimus P769
Dhiru1602 developer's profile
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2875964
And his work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=379647111
Only problem is that he don't have mi3 or mi4 device. Without device fixing critical bugs in device tree and keep on providing bugless updates is a critical task for any developer. So if we donate enough amount to him so that he can buy a mi3 or mi4 phone then that will going to be a big advantage for developement of our phone.
So I want to know how many people are really willing to donate surely so that we can donate a phone to him?? It will help me to judge the response and to initiate the things later.
Thank You,
Vishal

[ROM][STABLE][UNOFFICIAL] cosmic os

I'd like to get a few things cleared
I am in no way challenging kunalshah
This is a build I built for myself because I was frustrated with the bugs in the official and then I decided to share it with you
What does this have?
Absolutely nothing! It is cosmic, unchanged in any way, it's the official source built without any kind of placebo optimizations that are present on the official build
The kernel in this ROM is my stable base from haruhirom which shouldn't give random reboots
All optimizations from the device tree side made by the official maintainer have been removed
Don't have the time to personally test this but so far my testers claim that it works and is pretty darn stable
If you have an issue just send me a logcat in private. Also remember that logcats have sensitive information so refrain from posting them in public forums
With that said let's get to business
Source code
ROM: https://github.com/Cosmic-OS (totally unmodified, I promise!)
Kernel: https://github.com/anupritaisno1/android_kernel_oneplus_msm8994
Device tree: https://github.com/anupritaisno1/android_device_oneplus_oneplus2caf
And finally, the download link
Link removed
My stand on optimizations
Most of these so-called optimizations don't do anything at all except break the code. The only real optimization you could do is by not adding too many features. Light optimizations like I did in haruhirom actually work beautifully but if you optimize heavily a lot of stuff breaks which is why I removed most optimization from the parts that aren't included in the ROM
Again, optimizing too much breaks stuff, we don't need this
First rule of optimization: Do not!
I think it's nonsense to take pleasure criticizing the official maintainer of a rom while you are doing unofficial.

Again consider
We need optimizations, they are essential but well in moderation. If you optimize too much it breaks
Why do you think I moved to linaro on my kernel?

Who knows? Currently my tester is happy and if it works out fine then you have a stable cosmic build
This is fake thread kunalshah912 didnt break anything he still on development with Cosmic Os, this guy anupritaisno1 is insulting cosmic official and doing all the stuffs against rules @Moderators pls remove this thread and ban anupritaisno1
This is community if u have hate with anyone , please keep it to yourself. No need to spam Official cosmic thread and now this . Seriously you not here to make roms for our device.
It's personal hate towards official dev.

Cosmic os is aosp-caf so why does it matter if I am banned from aosp groups
And mind you, I'm not banned from all aosp groups

It isn't.
So far my actual testers report stability over the official. No random reboots have been reported by a single tester who actually flashed this vs the official which gave random reboots like every 10 minutes
I edited the op so that you guys won't be offended. If any more problems you can reach out to me in private. Peace
Moderator Information,

First off this MUST be marked unofficial
Second you are not the builder of these do you have @Rashed97 permission to post
Lastly the red flash is because these are eng builds for debugging not public use
Posting the work of others before it has been released by them is a despicable act. It is the sole reason why so many ROM teams have left XDA.
Do NOT post the work of others just to be a 'me first' thanks hoarder. As per the Forum Rules:
12. Sharing
XDA-Developers is based on the principle of sharing to transmit knowledge. This is the cornerstone of our site. Our members and developers freely share their experience, knowledge, and finished works with the rest of the community to promote growth within the developer community, and to encourage those still learning to become better. There are those, however, who take advantage of this model and try to make personal gains from the hard work of others.
In order to preserve the delicate balance between sharing for the good of the community and blatant self-promotion, regular members and developers alike must understand (and agree) to the following:
12.1. Give credits where due - Credits and acknowledgements for using and releasing work which is based on someone else's work are an absolute must. Works reported to have no credits will be taken down until proper acknowledgements are added by the member in question;
12.2. Courtesy - While most of the work released on our site falls under the umbrella of open source, that is not the only license model being used by developers on xda-developers. In order to prevent problems, we ask that if you decide to base your work on someone else's that you check the license model being used (as it might not be as permissive as one may think);
12.3. Re-releasing other's works as your own is forbidden. The code that you release into the wild must have something beyond minor aesthetic changes that makes it better than the last. As this can be subjective, kang reports will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If you feel that your code has been kanged, please contact the Dev Relations team (listed below) if you cannot solve the issue amicably via PM. Please understand that you will be asked to provide evidence to substantiate your claim;
12.4. Developers can issue take down requests (by contacting the Dev Relations team) under the following circumstances:
- in-process builds start showing up on forums when the developer is not yet ready to release the work;
- cases in which another developer is too aggressively soliciting donations or misrepresenting the work (kanging);
- unofficial builds where an official build is already available;
In summary, we want people to have access to work and knowledge alike. Sharing is good and courtesy and ethics go a long way.

Hey everyone,
We at Honor want to grow our community and following.
So in doing so, we are opening/releasing the AI source, kernel source and bootloaders for the Honor View 10 to developers to be able to have access not only the AI APIs but also root and give the opportunity for rom's to be developed. We want to see what some of you can do by having access to our AI eco-system.
This is extremely exciting for us at Honor and proud to invite 1000 developers, as our sign of commitment to the community to join the Honor Open Source program.
We plan to release this program by end of January 2018. There are still details to iron out but will definitely keep everyone informed with more info.
Please visit https://store.hihonor.com/us/ to sign up to be notified. Also stay tuned to this thread as well.
Being apart of the XDA community myself as a consumer for 8 years, XDA has a close place in my heart. I appreciate and thank all the developers here, personally. I am really excited to share this news to you all.
I will reach out to the LoS and AOSPA team and others, myself as I know how important they will be.
I'm all ears from you all regarding feedback. I believe this news will be well received.
Cheers!
Chris

1. Kernel Source
2. Fastboot Factory images
3. NFC and Audio Amp source
4. Device trees
5. AI APIs
This is a list that I will request and also stress that any Chinese needs to be translated to English.

Update 2:
Hope everyone is well
Big update with some exciting news to share!
We have selected the first initial developers to receive the Honor View 10. These developers are key building blocks for future development for the View 10. We're really happy to have these devs and their appropriate team on board and willing to participate with the Honor Open Source Program.
Yes, there are other important teams and developers in the community and we will provide devices to the other team members as well (LOS, AOSPA, AOSIP, DU, etc).
This is just the first, small phase of many more to come.
This should greatly jump start development once we release the kernel source publicly to download
First 9 Developers are:
@LuK1337
@topjohnwu
@franciscofranco
@luca020400
@rovo89
@OldDroid
@phhusson
@Myself5
@Dees_Troy
If all goes according to planned, kernel source should be available in the next week or two (for the EU model).
Thanks for all of your support! Hang in there and I'll keep everyone updated as more info is available
Cheers!

This sounds amazing! I wasn't even aware that this was in the works. Can we nominate a particular developer to receive one? If so, I nominate XDA Senior Member phhusson so he can continue his work on generic, AOSP Treble ROMs.
P.S. I'll keep in touch with the AOSPA team and update the community on how things go!

Absolutely! We want to hear feedback and I can reach out to them if tagged. Ideally we're wanting to stay in the USA, but I'll find out more info.
I have already posted on the AOSPA G+ group and have gotten in contact with the LOS team as well.
Great to hear! I'd love to subscribe to the open source program when it's available.
I'd like to nominate @chadouming to receive a device for his contributions to upstreaming the use of toolchains used when compiling Android and for having taken on the Uber project as a whole when Chet Kener left development. He puts so much time into projects and his work to make it stand out. I can't stress his contributions enough. Check out his GitHub profile:

Nicely said Chris! Now I definitely want to get my hands on the View10! However, if I am not mistaken, the one that was released does not have US LTE bands correct? If I purchase the chinese version, can the LTE bands be unlocked or do I have to wait for the US/Global version? Also when will it be released?
+1 Chris. The Honor view 10 sold in India has no support for LTE bands used by USA carriers. So if I purchase my view 10 from India can additional LTE bands be unlocked manually. I am eager to get my hands on view 10 (sold in India and not Chinese version )but the lack of LTE bands used by USA carriers is the only thing holding me back.
I'd like to nominate @mosimchah for his work on aicp, and for his kernel work
GitHub.com/mosimchah
I would like to nominate @Cozzmy13 (demon000) for his work on Lineage infrastructure and amazing device development. His Github is here: https://github.com/Demon000
You absolutely need @Entropy512 in your team.
Not only does he love the Huawei, but absolutely adores it.
He is the wizard.
dear chris
i would like to nominate the whole open kirin team. olddroid, xpeleato, surdu_petru
This is tremendous news and i think having developers have access to bootloader and ai will really expand the potential for this device and the user experience. Look forward to being involved.
I'm in. I'm a former cyngn employee, lineage recovery developer, general lineage contributor, and aokp lead.
The open kirin team surely deserve this.
@xyyx check this out. You deserve to have this free device for developer.
For you excellent and smooth Nitrogen OS 8.1
That is an amazing news.
I would like to nominate @miststudent2011 for being an active member and a rom compiler.

One of the biggest issue with the honor source for the kernel was the fact that a lot of it was in un-translable Chinese. If you guys help with the translation I am sure Honor devices would get far more custom rom development. It's one of the things that prevented me from getting the device. I only buy devices I can build aosp for.
I would like to nominate @Anik_khan he is team of lineageOs and this is his GitHub profile github.com/Anik1199
As contributor / maintainer / director of LineageOS I would like to nominate myself :3
I will nominated @Anik_khan..He is ones of member LineageOS/maintainer for some devices too and he is good developers..Hope u will count on him..
This is his github link github.com/Anik1199..Cheers from Indonesia!!!
