Hey, guys! I've just spent about 8 hours trying to research a way to extract the stock kernel in .IMG format from an ftf file. I thought it would be extremely easy to find this information, but here I am, with my eyes hurting and I'm still no closer to finding the answer.
Would anyone be kind enough to send me a link to the unmodified unmodified 290 stock kernel (img or zip)? I thought I could do it myself without bothering anybody here, but I've found all sorts of information, just not the one I'm looking for.
Thank you in advance!

Thank you, this should be quite helpful too! But this is a 136. Any idea where to get a 290 by any chance?

Sorry, should read better
Um I think the boot.img in [NUT]'s .290 is stock? well it will load on a locked BL
Use flashtool and flash just the kernel from the ftf

I was faced with a similar dilemma earlier this year. I posted in the correct section, but it's hard to get serious answers (that are helpful) over there.
Dunno. Hope you can get some help. Please share if you do.
PS: you may want to contact DooM as his kernels for unlocked bootloaders are .ftf (containing .sin). Hopefully he can shed some light on this.

With flashtool you can only build .ftf bundles. I think he's looking to compile a .sin
aZuZu's thread has a .sin unpacker which isn't what we're looking for. BUT, it does have the custom boot image toolkit for if you're wanting to just make a kernel for the old bypass method.
The exact thing i want to do is...
Take kernel.sin from Dooms v5 FS DualRecovery kernel ftf.
Unpack kernel.sin.
Edit init.rc to add something.
Repack as kernel.sin.
Flash as part of ftf bundle.
I know it must be possible as Doom creates kernels we can flash!
From my thread in Q&A:

It's a question relating to development, which is allowed in this section.
Although, you could of searched beforehand to find your answer.
looking to root my amaze 4g tonight and i was wondering if anyone whos done it before with the all in one kit would like to help me step by step. this is my first time trying to root a phone so itd be easier if i had someone whos actually done it before to help out a little.
much appreciated =]
I could send u a file which u flash n ur phone will be rooted dm me if u want
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
It's really easy to do. If I'm not mistaken Hasoon has a video tutorial up to help you step by step on the development section. It's labeled 'Noob Proof'
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G
So you make this thread and an hour later you PM me? :sigh:

We see you are new here, it is pretty much expected that you spend some time reading the stickies and threads that apply to what it is you are trying to do before making these kind of threads. Add to that this topic has been discussed a lot so there is a tone of info on it. Lastly it is absolutely in your best interest to understand what it is your doing and all that information has been discussed ad nauseum.

I've done alot of reading the only thing I'm still unsure about is why theirs no kernels in the all in one kit anymore. In the video he made there's 2 or 3 choices but when I downloaded it the kernel files empty. I don't know if its something about the new update, but I havnt been able to find anything about it.

You are missing the point. You made 2 threads withing 2 hours and you PM'd me. Instead, you could've made one thread and placed everything there and wait for a response. Patience is a virtue.
I am a nice guy as you saw in the forums. I do not do technical support via PM. I do help around the forum, just not in my PM.
Since you are new to the forum, I'm just explaining how it works around here so you don't get flamed or anything. Some developers do not like to do tech support via PM, some don't mind. However, majority of them don't. Take that into consideration next time.

Yeah I get where your coming from, I'm sure you get tons of pms about the same stuff over and over. So sorry about that. I don't mean to fill up the forum with post that have already been covered too. Your tool, from what I've read, seems like the safest easiest way to root the amaze. It's my first time ever doing this sort of thing so I just want to be sure I don't mess anything up. Could you answer my question about no kernels being in your kit anymore? Do I just need to download one and put it in the file or what? And if so is there anything else That was taken out and needs to be downloaded that I might've missed?
Thanks.
I think I finally have all the steps down.
1) download winrar
2) download tool and extract data folder to my desktop or wherever
3) turn USB debugging on phone
4) download the rom I want and put it into the kernel section of the data folder.
5) plug in phone
6) follow steps 1-5
7) put unlock_code.bin in the data folder
8) flash recover (should I use the 4ext, TWRP 2.1.0, or find another one online?)
9) flash kernel/rom I picked
10) boot into recovery
11) boot into boot loader
12) relock boot loader (how do I get into fast boot to do this?)
Please let me know if I'm missing ANYTHING in those steps. If I'm not mistaken I should be finished after completing all these?
Thanks again for all the help guys! im just a noob that needs some help. Haha

All the steps are correct, except for 10-12. You do not need to relock the bootloader. It will only cause more problems.
ALSO, flash the ROM first, then flash the kernel.

So what should I do after flashing the rom?
Also, dont most of the roms already have kernels in them so I won't have to flash both but just the rom?
Thanks a lot!

If you want to use a custom kernel, then you can. If not, just flash the Custom ROM and you will be fine.

Hey guys!
I recently rooted, unlocked my bootloader and flashed a custom rom ( GPE ) Because I thought id get better battery life
I was wrong.
SO how do I go back to stock? I read the tutorial although It said something about having the right kernel? Wut.
Is it not just easy to flash stock over flashtool Or what
I want to keep the unlocked bootloader just go back to stock 4.4.2
Many thanks

Just flash the .757 FTF with Flashtool and you'll be fully stock again. If you want to root it then look at jackie099's thread for the .757 details on rooting it.

You're welcome. Sometimes it can get overwhelming or downright confusing especially when there's so many steps involved in an OP. Sometimes I wish they were more straight forward with less of the precautionary stuff but that would just cause the new folks even more headaches.

The simplest way for me, is if you read the stickies and the current threads.

The only reason I stepped up in that thread is the root guide that is stickied is out of date after OP being banished. Hate to see anyone downgrading to root and all when it isn't needed.

No
It is impossible to debloat any FTF
FTF's cannot be modified in any way
You need to look for a debloated zip to flash

So you could just make a debloated zip then after you install it do a full unroot. I mean what's the goal here because there are so many things you can delete it just depends on your needs are. so if I made a debloated zip you would still need root to delete the system apps you don't need so it gets dicey. I can understand the people wanting Lollipop without root. But debloated and no root I don't.
I just want to be rid of all the verizon crap. Root is not important to me any more. If I have to live with the crap so be it.

I am sure. To create the FTF you need the stock blobs downloaded from Sony.
Besides, it much easier to root, debloat then remove root.
