Hi all, i'm new here and i was wondering where i could get information on developing ROMS and MODS? I am currently in school for Network System Admin. but would like to learn more...... any help would be awesome.
Xda university is nice. But a lot of the stuff mentioned on there is for unlocked boot loader devices. I would search around the internet for ROM porting instructions. Its fairly simple.

Real quick.... do you know if the LG Revolutions bootloader is unlocked? I also have that phone and wouldn't mind getting a few more new roms on that phone either.

there wont be any custom ROMs for the phone until someone is able to get past it without bricking theirs.. if you are not the kind to flash custom ROMs onto your phones, this probably wont affect you much.

The bootloader is what loads up the operating sytem in very simple terms. By locking or signing it, it means that we need to present motorola's certificate every time we want to load a custom ROM/kernel.
Though what he says is true, you can still root the phone, install pseudo-custom ROMs (they are all right here in the forums) and do tons of other things.
This is still a great great phone though and probably the best in the market in my opinion.

I have the Atrix on Telus Mobility. It's unlocked and I am running Gingerbreak right now as we speak. I love the phone but i hope This works.
I just upgraded from a 4 year old blackberry so using the Atrix is pretty overwhelming. Jailbreaking an iPhone is one thing but I have no idea where to get started with this one.
Is there a definitive guide on how to get started customizing and modifying your phone?
Thanks to all who reply, its really appreciated

Hey guys, its atrixno4g and i was wondering if their is away to rom the atrix running 2.3.6 with .141. Oh and if someone could tell me about this unlocked-bootloader thing is all about ( is it when the phone is unlocked?) and how to get the clockworkmod recovery i think its called.. I recently got this phone and without doing any research i used a program called RSD Lite and flashed some sbf to downgrade or something and instead bricked my phone- but i fixed it now. So basically can someone just give me a brief summary about all this, i dont want to brick my phone again.
Thanks.

It would take more of my own time to explain it all and provide all of the links then it would for you to find out yourself.
Search-lazy much?
Sorry but by asking questions like that you are effectively invalidating and making worthless all the hard work and effort put into writing all those tutorials and explanations in other threads. Not nice.

I rooted and unlocked my bootloader a few hours ago using the automatic bootloader unlocker tool
But like everyone said you should search because all of this is included in the tutorial here just choose the option 3 for the AT&T version and continue

Yeah, they are outdated. Like the bootloader thread, its outdated, but its still the way to do it. Theres no newer way. After that, root it. After you root it just install cwm from the market don't follow any threads on it.

Like everyone has said you gotta search. A sign you haven't even looked in those threads is the fact you said they're outdated even though they have responses that are very recent, indicating people with your version and firmware might be commenting. It's a lot of reading and it should be because if you mess it up you could brick your phone. Read everything you can and then read it again. I can guarantee you can unlock, get clockworkmod working, and flash a ROM onto your phone (my guarantee is limited to the US AT&T atrix)
Thanx for everything guys- now i root first or unlock bootloader?

I see you're still not too good at searching the forum...
How about you just follow this guide?

Hey everyone, lately I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube from the channel 'PocketNow' and I really enjoy all the tips and tricks they provide for Android user such as ROMS, Mods, and Rooting advise. I myself want to get into the world of rooting my Android devices, but im a little skittish about bricking my device or doing something wrong. Is it really worth rooting my Samsung Galaxy Player ? And if so what is the easiest and safest way to do it?

Should have posted in the general section of forum.
But yes it is worth it if you want to explore the capabilities of the device. You would need root to do several things. Follow the steps to rooting outlined in several topics.

So i decided to sell my S3 and get a DNA. I am a serial crackflasher and know that the process on the DNA is quite different than the S3. Before I venture out and root this bad boy I wanted to make sure that I know what the heck I'm doing.
So from what I'm reading I need to go to the HTC unlock site to unlock my phone and then I can begin flashing Roms correct??
I scanned the forums and wasn't able to find a straight answer on the correct steps. If anyone can point me too the latest method to root and flash Roms I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!

First off, what you need to do is determine what software version you are running. If you are on the newest OTA, then you are at a stand still until a method to unlock/SOFF comes available.
settings > about > software information
01.15.605.04 - do this 1st (method needed to unlock through HTCDEV) ........ then unlock through htcdev (this provides a little step by step) ........ then if you want, SOFF!
02.04.605.02 - this is all you can do
**** I just got my phone and its the latest software. Looks like I'll be waiting!!!
