Hello! Ok, this may sound stupid, but here goes.
I am trying to flash custom ROMs on my Rezound (bootloader unlocked) but I don't have an SD card for it (can't root or use any write ups for flashing a ROM).
This is my old phone (I currently used a Razr Maxx hd which is rooted and unlocked) - BUT I wanted to try flashing ROMs on my Rezound first so I don't mess it up on my current phone. Pretty much I want to use my Rezound to learn the process and if I mess it up, I will still have my current phone.
Any way! Can someone please give me a little bit of guidance on this? Do I even need to root in order to flash ROMs (I read that I can use ADB to flash ROMs instead of the SD card, but do I need root ?) If I do need root, how do I do this without an SD card? I'm cheap and don't want to buy one & I can't find the original SD that used to be in the phone.
Also, after I root/if I don't have to root, what are some guidelines on using ADB instead of SD card to flash ROMs?
I'm just terrified of flashing a ROM on my Maxx hd without first trying it on the Rezound since I can mess up without losing my daily-used cell phone!
And YES I am a NOOB!
I appreciate any advice! Thank you!

Rooting should be easy enough, just put the SuperSUxxx.zip file on the internal storage, start TWRP/CWM and flash it.
As far as ROMing goes... pony up a few bucks and buy an SD card, you can get a 16GB card for around $10, or even less, shipped, from Amazon or Newegg. One of the main steps in flashing new ROMs for the Rezound is wiping the internal storage so a SD card of some kind is highly recommended.
I am not aware of away to flash roms via ADB/Fastboot only on the Rezound.
There are fastboot commands for flashing ROMs and kernels directly from a computer too.
He could actually go with one of the all-in-one toolkits if he has a Windows PC, just have to point and click to do commands then after setting up files inside appropriate folders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437371
Granted that makes learning commands for the other device a two step process, this baby step to see where and when the phone reacts to commands, plus ROM configuration afterwards. Take some of the anxiety away. Then try taking a look at the command scripts ran by the program directly and follow up with more online reference on commands. If lucky the other device forum may have a toolkit with automated scripts as well.
Thank you guys!! I will grab an SD for it and start playing around! It doesn't seem as hard as I'd imagined to do this stuff since there's SO MANY write ups and simplified explanations for most of it! Thanks again! But by the way I am a she! And I do have windows but I think it'd be easiest and more similar to my RAZR if I got an SD card for the rezound.
Here goes nothing!
External SD card has many benefits for the rezound. First one; s-off. Pretty sure you will need one to complete it. Second one; s-on ph98img flashing, the newer 2.28 hboot I am pretty sure removed the remote "fastboot boot" command.

"fastboot boot" works fine in 2.28 Hboot, but only if you are unlocked (It doesn't seem to care if s-on or s-off).

Shouldnt have to unlock an s-off phone though. Patched hboots also allow zimage flashing. Wish i knew the procdedure to patch the latest for s-off users.

Well the title speaks for itself, this is my first thread on these forums, hope its in the rights section.
So, like the title asks...
How many people on hboot 1.5 have sucessfully done the Juopunutbear S-OFF mod? If you have is it worth it and do you think its really hard to do?
I only ask because the directions seem short, simple, and to the point.
Am I okay starting out with MeanROMICS 1.4?
How do I know what file download is appropriate for me (the thread in this section states .05 is good but the instructions on juopunutbears site say .01)?
And lastly on the unlimited.io page under the hboot downloads section, do i need any of these files and how do i distinguish the difference?
me
i did. heeeelllllaaaaaaa easy. even better is i recovered fully from VM firmware. now im rocking hboot eng 1.4.200. only thing with jupwhateverabear is the instructions dont prepare you for it asking if you want custom jphboot. i said no. ended up saying soff locked 1.5, then i used the jphboot and it said jupowhateverabear but didnt say whether it was locked or unlocked or relocked. now with hbooteng the line where all that crap would be isnt even there.

great but why would i want the VM firmware? isnt the whole point of the juopunutbear thing to keep hboot 1.5 but with s-off?
I did it and it works. I extracted the files needed for the process, put it on my desktop, and followed the directions. I also watched a YouTube video on how they did the same steps on a HTC Amaze, so it was simple. I used a coaxial cable to do the process, shaped it as a "U" shape, then performed the steps. Did not brick my phone and only did it in one try.
right so what do i do with the extracted files besides the .exe?
theres the .img, .zip, and two .txt
typically you use the .img with fastboot and the .zip in recovery for a flash install but i dont see those steps in the instructions at all.

The way I did was to create a folder on the desktop. Then put all of the files inside the folder. I opened the exe and made sure my phone was on fastboot usb. Then wait until it tells you to do the wire trick. The wire trick is all about timing. If it fails the first time, just run the program again. That's how I did it.
so you did nothing with the other four files? ran the exe and it took care of the rest?

Yes. I also used a spare SD card I had laying around that got corrupted but I did not want to use my 16 GB card, so I swapped SD cards. You can later format it if you like. Just follow the instructions on the website and you should be fine.
i could just backup my SD card and use the one i have? or will it ruin it? or could i just use NO SD card?

You can also backup your SD card so you won't lose anything important. I was skeptic at first, but I was getting tired of flashing roms through fastboot. So I saw the opportunity and went for it. Honestly, I recommend using a spare SD card (does not matter the size) because it will create a backup in the SD card.
I did it with SOS Rom. Issues afterwards, can't download anything over 1g to my sd card through USB and can't load custom kernels or kernels found in roms though fastboot or other recoveries or flash image GUI. I am s off now. Could be because I used a non gb Rom or stock one. I take the blame, just learn from my stupidity. Going to try to unroot and try again tomorrow

That's weird. I was on SOS rom before I did the steps. Once I was done, I flashed the SOS rom again with no issues. The only difference I've made was to use fastboot to get to the revolutionary recovery to reflash the SOS rom again.
I did it, process was simple, I chose to install the optional hboot

Super small chance it won't get cleaned out, but totally use another card. Pretty sure you need to have a card in there. I don't dare take chances anymore LOL

Not the right section to put this.
I successfully got S-OFF from a stock rom after a couple tries i admit. And yes, the instructions are a bot short. I even searched for this "instructional video" that it mentions. The only video was for the Amaze, i believe. But, still the same method of execution. And first, you must make a backup of your SD Card if you want anything on it. Just backup the whole thing. I did notice that the Juopunutbear method did something to me SD card, it was salvageable after a format tho.
Gotta mention, the first time I tried this (unsuccessfully), when I booted up because I had given up, I noticed that I got caught in a boot loop. Every time ending up at the juopunutbear screen. Then I got scared, only to madly search how to get OUT of a boot loop, of which I thought I bricked it. And let me tell you it is possible to get out of it. I'll try and get the site I found up.
After I finally got back to stock I successfully tried the Juopunutbear method, along with the wire-trick and finally got it up. I tried to mimic the video to get the right number of taps and length of time that you need to make contact with the ground. It finally worked and it's freakin awesome. Been waiting a long time for someone to find out this hboot 1.5 problem.
This is not the proper place to put this better to put this in the already started thread for Juopunutbear or possibly even General or something. There is no development being made in this thread.
Overall I find the wire trick less invasive and less of a hassle then the whole downgrade, brick, update, process. No offence to the guys that designed the process. Because I'm sure it took more than their brains to do but personally, I like the combination of hardware / software hacking.
+1 for the wire trick S-OFF trick

Can't quite get it....
Everyone else seems to do this with no problems, but this is my first root. Well im following this particular guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813818 and have done everything up to completing the wire trick. When I run ControlBear.exe the phone boots up then the cmd window says "second backup failed immediately" and no options ever pop up on the screen on my phone. Can anyone propose a solution? Since this is my first time rooting, it could be a stupid noob mistake but for the life of me its killing me to be so close yet so far to soff.
I cannot even get a single ROM besides the stock to work on the phone, I've been able to work other ROMs on my phone before, and now, they just quit on me. I've done nothing special recently, besides flash the stock RUU because games on the previous ROM I had, failed to work anymore (applications were left intact, oddly.) I just don't know what's going on with this phone anymore. Though it might be because I'm not on the same hboot that I was on when I got S-OFF (somehow reverted to 1.57.000 again).
Any things I should do to figure out what's going on with the phone? I'm not too stupid I'm just not knowledgeable in the process of doing things with this specific phone. Don't worry about technical terms, I can handle them.

What recovery and hboot do you have now and what ROM's are you trying to flash? I suggest using 4EXT recovery and the JBear 1.50.5050 hboot for the greatest chance of success with the most ROM's, including those based on GB and JB.

I don't even know how to get my hboot to a lower version, I burned the Downgrade Kit to one of my CDs, and that didn't work at all, never saw my phone, even though I know it should.
HBOOT-1.57.0000
RADIO-1.06.00.0426
UNLOCKED & S-OFF.
Was flashing MeanROM ICS (which I know works with my phone, it just doesn't now.) Sort of started noticing the problems after forgetting I need a different HBOOT and flashed another ROM (forgot the name, but it's on my sdcard).
If you can guide me to the right direction in order to downgrade my HBOOT so I can run a JB ROM, I'd be grateful, because that's what I've been wanting all along, but this device is just a headache over my One V .

You can use this guide to downgrade your bootloader (hboot).
Note that there are two methods to do the update. I prefer doing it with the fastboot commands since that doesn't require updating the SD card, but most users seem to prefer the PG86IMG.zip method. Just make sure you have a plan to delete the file from the root if the SD card after flashing it if you use that method.

I really don't understand why people don't use the fastboot method! It's 2 steps and much quicker. You can have another hboot within 30 seconds rather than having to take out your SD card multiple times, especially with the way the back is made.
I need to figure out driver issues first though, my phone isn't being detected in Fastboot, but recovery is fine. All in all I'm 100% sure this will work, thanks for the help .
Ehh, got it done in SD Card, it worked, appreciate it very much!
I have the verizon htc droid 4g lte and I am running viper 2.2 with the twap recovery, but my phone can no no longer be seen
with the unblocking tool that I use to get the bootloader unlocked with the first time. when I hook it up to my computer, I can
see both my internal and external card, and I can even read and write to them, but when it comes to the programs recognizing
my phone like they did before, they want. They will no longer recognize my phone. I can flash a few roms, but nothing that requries me to be s-off.
I tried 10.1, but the phone gets stuck when installing the appz part of the rom. So, I am guessing, it must be because I am not s-off. I want to get to s-off now,but I can't.
Any advice would be great. thanks.

Presumably, your bootloader is still unlocked? Rather than using a script or automated tool, follow the manual procedure in this thread for Part 2: Apply SuperCID. After this, reboot your phone to the bootloader and verify SuperCID with fastboot getvar cid, it should return 11111111. Once this is verified, you can follow the instructions for Facepalm S-OFF. Finally, after achieving S-OFF, revert your CID to normal again using the manual instructions for Part 6: Revert your CID to stock.
BTW, use a more meaningful title next time and this post belongs in the q&a/troubleshooting section, not general.
Hi there. So im a huge noob and could use an experienced persons help. I have this Amaze 4G that i unlocked bootloader for, had running Android 4.3 Evervolv rom and all was well. I then needed to sim unlock and the code didn't work and I read I needed to unroot and flash stock. I'm trying to do just that using Hasoons toolkit but can't get much help since the thread is closed. My HBOOT is 1.93.0002 and I try to do the Mainver Error fix and It says device not found. I definetly have the drivers updated as I had to go through all that just to have my device detected in fastboot. I wan't to flash stock Telus RUU. Can anyone please help me?
-Note I also accidentally relocked bootloader without downgrading or unrooting. I quickly unlocked it again, but my device was wiped so I can't boot into any rom. I only have 4EXT recovery and bootloader/fastboot available. I am S-on. Can anyone point me or describe a step by step process to get unrooted or and flashed to stock telus? I will gladly donate $$ for any helpful info as well!

First let's take things one step at a time. If s-on you should still be able to run any of the source built AOSP ROMs like evervolv, PAC, or CM. So if you want to get your handset up and running all you need to do is just push one into your SD card either in recovery or with an adaptor on your PC. Just download one of them to your PC. If you have adb working on it when you enable usb debugging in recovery you'll have access to both your internal SD partition and your SD card. Then just copy the zip to one of them. Then turn off the usb and flash the ROM as usual. Once your phone is back up and running you can read the threads to find out what you need to do the other things you want on your device.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the reply man! That's the thing i have a few issues. First off i can't mount storage via 4ext recovery it always just says failed. I also have no SD card to load a ROM onto. And even when i was up and running i couldn't unroot. I have the toolkit and every guide says to hit mainever fix but my device was never recognized even though i have all the drivers
In recovery format your internal SD then reboot back into recovery. This should allow you to at least be able to mount it. It's file system probably got corrupted while you were monkeying around. Then follow the instructions I posted above. This should at least get you back up and running. For the other procedures you're going to need an external SD card, because you won't be able to flash the factory image from your internal storage unless you're familiar with adb. I don't believe you can do the mainver fix until after s-off, but I'm not 100% on that since I'm s-on and never tried it. Once you're back up and running then we'll try to proceed with the other steps.
This isnt a big problem man if you have recovery you can doo any thing and do as odysseus says

Hello everyone who happens to read this!
I'm new to the forum and new to android (Was an apple peasant for the longest)
BUT I NEED HELP!!!
Ok so long story short I got a Htc Evo 3D about a month ago and sunk a manageable amount of money into it to fix it up, case, ect ect.
It works good, but with the measly 1gb internal storage in comparison to the 16gb internal I had on my Iphone 4, I had to sacrifice most of my apps when I switched. 5 of the main apps are already blocked from updating, most of the stock apps were uninstalled to the factory version but I still have to clear the cache every time an app needs to update. I can't move any more apps to my 8gb SD card, which is hardly touched.
So here is my questions to you guys.
Now keep in mind im brand new to android so im not exactly able to write html or command line or linux or whatever the heck android uses, so if any of the below are possible, please be as specific as possible as to what I will need to do. Thanks!
- Im thinking of rooting my device. Iv not found a single tutorial saying EXACTLY what I need to do so I'v nit-picked a bunch of tools suggested from several places.
- Is rooting going to help with my storage issue?
- I'v read a few places where people swapped the internal and external storage via what I assume was programming line, could I do that to my device? Has anyone else done it?
- I'v picked a few potential ROMs that I might use, but I'm wondering if I would be able to customize it once it's installed?
-- I want to remove the giant "Airplane Mode Is On" icon from the lock screen while still having Airplane mode on, since I'm currently only using the phone on wifi anyway.
--- I also want to remove the sounds the camera makes when being manually focused in with the button.
- I'v seen a few ROMs with "Full Beats Support", and I would like to have that also if I end up having to make my own ROM.
Aside from the above, I want to keep as much of a stock look as I can, since I really do like the stock look.
Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated! I'm just worried Ill have to but a different android phone to use, or worse, go back to my slow as **** Iphone 4.
Thanks!
Need info about your phone,
CDMA or GSM?
HBoot version.
Do you know if phone's HBoot is unlocked?
Or is s-off?
What Android version is installed?
It will take a lot of learning but we are here to help, or at less I am.
I have no idea what you already know, I will not assume.
The Hboot is like the BIOS, it initializes hardware and load OS into memory. The OS is the Kernel which is part of the boot partition. Android is a user interface, like Windows, I know lines get blurred. between OS and user interface. Root, ie superuser, is the same as administrator. Rooting is just giving you admin rights. Unlocking hboot grants you to install custom rom, recovery, or kernel. With those you can root or be rooted. S-off turns off all security checks so you can install custom hboot.

HTCDev unlock
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Hboot is the bootloader
Unlock basically lets you load unsigned code, meaning not made by HTC. Drawback is that it messes up Digital Rights Management, not a big deal.
S-off
is a Security off, getting s-off is not allowed by HTC
but can be done. There are 2 methods
Revolutionary
http://revolutionary.io/
Requires Hboot version 1.4 and Rom 1.13
JuopunutBear S-OFF*
http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm
Requires HTC unlock and wire trick.
To just Root stock rom, all you need is a custom recovery
unofficial twrp will install SU, superuser, automatically.

1. Yes, rooting may help with storage issue. Sound like your on android 2.3 GingerBread. But I guess it could be an issue on 4.0 IceCreamSandwhich.
2. Yes possible to swap data and sdcard. But needs alot of work to do it. Very custom.
3. Most ROMs can be customized, there are many apps that can do this.
4. Lock screens, there are many and I'm sure there is a way to remove airplane mode indicator.
5. There are mods to remove camera sound.

I am on ICS 4.0.3, which is the latest update for my phone.
Do you have any idea what I would need to do in order to do the data/sd swap? Would I need to redo the process if I upgraded to a bigger SD in the future?
Use Link2SD app.
I used the downgrade method on my CDMA w/ hboot 1.58 S-ON
When I was done I put together a fairly simple(simple as possible) step by step procedure

Link2SD is useless because all the other apps were not designed to run on the SD. Trust me when I say I tried that and about 5-6 more. They were totally useless.

well, maybe forgot to say sdcard needs to be partitioned. 1 with fat32, 2 ext4, been awhile. Should use recovery to partition or linux gparted.
Link2SD uses the sd-ext partition, which is linked to data partition of the phone, so it use as 1 folder even if its on 2 devices, its a linux file system. I wish I could explain it better.
