Hi all,
On Saturday, my phone just started resetting at random for some or other reason. Sometimes while using it, at other times I find it like that in my pocket.
I did read on the net for solutions, but nothing really fits so far.
Nothing was changed recently, no drops etc.
Since the problem started, I tried the following:
Cache wipe
Firmware upgrade to 4.3 (was running 4.2?I think? seamlessly)
Changed battery around
Removed SD Card
Re-inserted SIM 'correctly'.
It does it on battery and cable power.
Failed power button seems likely, but wouldn't the power button screen come on? I tried on my friend's phone by holding it in, and although it resets, it first shows the options.
ANY advice?
Will 'n factory reset help? Even after a firmware upgrade?
Regards,
Erich
First try a factory reset and format the internal sd card then flash a full stock rom. Test before you install or restore any apps or mods.

Thanks for the info.
I actually took my phone apart and tried to wiggle the switch after I measured and cleaned it. Don't know if it is something I did, or battery removed for 30min, but I haven't had that problem since.
If it acts up, I will do as you suggested.

Erich

Hi, I recently rooted my sk17i using the unsecure kernel and superoneclick. Then I accidentally uninstalled one system application that was necessary in the phone. So I decided to do a factory reset in the phone.
After the reset, phone was still rooted, everything was normal and fresh. But then I noticed that the Home button is not working.(can't minimize tasks) :-(
All other buttons are working normally. Another difference I found was, when i long press the power button, Only the 'power off' option is displayed. Earlier there were silent mode and flight mode.
Then i tried connecting usb to my laptop. Earlier, everything was working fine. Now memory card is not connected in MSC mode. And I can't use usb tethering.
Another problem I found was, when I short press the power button, as usually display turns off. But when I press it again, screen comes instantly without showing the unlock slider. I can't use any screen lock security because the screen is not getting locked.
Everything was perfect even after rooting. I can't understand what will possibly go wrong after a factory reset.
Please help. Thanks in advance..
Hey,
I'm no expert so apologies if this is no help.
Have you tried to get the phone into fastboot mode again to re-flash the ROM?
I should imagine this would restore all the .apk you have removed including the essential app that has caused your problem.
Hope this is of help,
Joe
Me too think you should do a flash. it would fix it i think
Thanks for ur response. Now after all the experiments I conducted on my phone, I realize what a foolish question that was. . what I realize now is :
A factory reset will only wipe the /data partition. if any file is deleted from the /system partition, it is gone for ever. so, flashing the ROM is the only solution.

After a night time charge, my phone started to perform strange and I can't seem to get out of the situation.
It started with the temperature display showing on the battery when turning on. I am unable to start the phone, without it being connected to a powered on charger.Without a powered cable in, it just powers off, then goes back to the battery / temp display.
Upon starting, the phone runs fine, apart from the fact that it thinks there is something plugged into the USB port. This sometimes shows itself as the phone thinking it's still being charged to it thinking it's plugged in as a USB data connection. The USB port has been cleaned with the same outcome.
The phone can go from showing 0% charge to being flagged up as fully charged in under 10 minutes. Power the phone off and it will revert to charging as normal.
I'm unable to connect Odin to reflash as the USB port is detected as "unknown" device and I've tried this on numerous machines with the same outcome.
I'm unable to boot into recovery mode with clockworkmod, this coming up with the standard samsung boot options.
Is there a rom that I can copy over the phone, that will pass the Samsung validation check for ROM installation with the Down / power / action button combo.
I getting a bit frustrated with this at the moment, so any help advised will be great.
Cheers
Same thing happened to me, kinda, flash hyperdroid 4.0,you won't be sorry and it'l fix your. Problem.

try cleaning the usb port mate if it has dirt/dust/fluff in there it can cause big issues http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132588 that thread may help a bit
it could also be abad battery causing issues
i would try
#reading that thread and trying the fixes
#putting phone back to stock ie factory reset or flahing a new rom and kernel
#ordering a new battery

Cheers for all the info so far.
Things tried.
Different battery
USB port cleaned with isopropyl alcohol with both Qtip and new tooth brush.
Numerous factory resets
Battery left out for an hour for full reset
Wipes with CMW recovery with SD card in and Out
I am unable to connect to a machine, so I am unable to use Odin to reflash.
I've just ordered a Jig, so will try that as soon as it arrives.
I'll try the hyperdroid 4.0. Does that flash ok with the stock bootloader as the CWM recovery does not boot, even though the phone is rooted ok.

Well an update to my issues.
The Jig turned up today, after two inserts the usb port occasionally was detected correctly. This gave me enough time to reload the kernal.
After another Jig reset (successfull this time) I was able to connect to Odin and reflash the handset.
The battery is still reporting funny things (goes from 60% to full in 5 minutes or charges normally) so I'll be doing a few more resets / wipes and reinstallations to see if I get to a normal place.
Thanks for all your help.
I have the similar problem as yours.
From time to time the phone thinks its connected to USB.When this happenes I get a "Batery Overvoltaged" reading using Batery Spy App. And I can't connect to my PC using USB. The other thing happening is the phone is waking up as soon as I turn it off and if I try to turn it off again it freezes and u need to reset or pull the batery out. I though I solved the problem when I left the phone off without batery for 12 hours but that only worked for a day and now it started again this time it switches to driving mode on and off, and USB connection. I tried Hard reset ,reverting to a stable ROM with CWM , cleaning the port with alcohol, puting the phone without the back cover and the battery in a bowl of rice for 12hours(water damage?) , cleanng caches, battery stats, different kernels, removed the SD card.
I don't know what trigers this but it drains battery fast and I too had the batery going from 30% to zero in a flash and the fast charginng atleast once. Couple of times the phone even started by itself when inserted back the batery...
Please keep me posted with your progress, I surfed google and found this particular problem several times in other places so it happens more often than I though, but no one posted a fix, or atleast what is causeing the problem
So my phone started restarting randomly. It will only show the Samsung logo turn off and do the same thing again. Its not rooted and I am pretty sure that its not from something I installed recently (Everything was from the play store and no immediate problems after any of them). When I did the hold volume up,down and power it would only keep on restarting still. But when I just hold volume down it comes to something else that asks if I want to install a new rom. So I was wondering what I should do. Install a new ROM and then revert back ? or will that not work? Also I have a extra I717 with a broken screen I could swap the insides and see if that would help. Also I don't know much about rooting and stuffs. Lemme know what I should do guys! :highfive:

Take out the battery. Insert the battery without touching anything else. Does it just power on itself or does it stay off? If it does turn on, you might have a stuck power button. Let us know what happens
did that too :/
I did that too. It would turn off and on again but only show the Samsung logo then restart again. Also I have the case removed so It cant be the power button being stuck and I have tried the battery thing still nothing.
Whatcha mean? It would turn on by itself once the battery is inserted or you would have to press the power button. Once the battery is out and then inserted back in, it is not supposed to be powered on by itstelf. If it does turn on by itself, then the power button is most likely pressed in.

I have a I717 doing the same thing. (Eg. device boots and seems to function for a about 2 minutes locks up and reboots. )
As the device was stock when it started having this issue I figured it might be an OS issue Factory reset to it would leave the device booting to optimize applications then reboot. Checked power button checked it was clean.
Also staied on when in recovery without issue.
As I figured this was an OS issue I installed CWM
Downloaded and installed SlimBeam
Device booted and completed instlation and operated for about 2 minutes and rebooted.
Device will does not have any issues with in CWM or Odin. I
I read alsowhere that the internal SD-Card filesystem might have become corrupted and need to be reformated however I have yet to find instruction or confirmantion.
Anyone have some ideas?
.
to Tal Star.
1. When you were in CWM and were about to flash, did you wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache then do the flash? Or just flash?
2. So either os it would do the same? Stay on for about two minutes, then reboot? Would it reboot back into the os and do the same?

So right now you can boot up into the os and it will turn off in 2 minutes? or just given enough time? Will it boot into the os each time? I dont think ill have an answer for it, but i bet someone that does will want to know the same things to possibly narrow it down

Naw it starts optimzing the Applications and lasts a few minutes reboots locks up and starts again. SlimBean completes the process and makes it all the way to the launcher but after a same amount of time it reboots. back to the launcher. (Slim bean has a resonable number less Apps and that's why it completes or is my best guess)

I really wouldnt know about that. Hopefully someone will come by and help you out. I wonder being on the latest recovery would help if youre not already and then doing it all over? Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in.
Could be a corrupt download.
Again, I always flash rom 2 times. You can get different reactions from 2 seperate flashes. 2 time seems to get a more solid installation.
Wait your 10 and reboot.
Still think its a power button issue. It can act normal but still be the problem. Hows you battery?

I dobut it's a download. I use CWM to flash from an external SD card. However I did try reflashing like you suggest with no change. The battery is fine as far as I can tell, like I said it will stay online in recovery on battery for what seems like forever.

Nope I am working on the one I have with the SIM Card out & SD card out.
happens
So what I done so far is taken out the sim and sd card. Took out the battery put it back in and when I power to turn it on It vibrates (like it normaly would when it starts) then shows Samsung logo turns off and loops. I tried doing the hold volume up down power thing and it does not work. But what does work is when I hold volume down it takes me to a custom OS thing. I don't know what that is but I cant get there. So maybe put a custom OS in and then revert it back?
So I used Odin and put 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Official Firmware but its still doing what it was doing before.Used 3.07 and it said it passed fine. Should I try a different rom or something else? Also the first time it starts up after installing the rom it goes past the logo to the ATT ball animation logo freeze there and turns of then when I turn it on from there it will loop at the samsung logo again.
You can try the firmware upgrade and initialization feature in kies. It will return your device to the original factory firmware, software, and settings. If it still loops after that you have hardware issues.
Ok so I guess im making progress now. After I put the stock rom (Different one from befor) It DIDNT BOOT LOOP well it did but only looped 3 times then stoped. Also there are 2 Samsung logos. the frist one was just normal logo ( same one I was having befor ) then the screen turns off and shows the same logo but this time its a little bigger its white with a blue glow! ( Made it further this time but still crashes afterwards) BUT now I can actualy get into the Manual mode. I did a wipe data/factory reset in that mode which didnt help i wiped the cache too. Still didnt help.
Now in manual mode my computer does recognize that something is connected to it now but it tries to configure it and keeps on failing. And so samsun kies cant connect to it either.
But from where I started at its a improvement
My Note is doing the same thing too now, but I know the reason why. I was trying to install clockworkmodrecovery so I would be able to upgrade to jellybean and I think I flashed a kernel that was meant for rooted phones (pretty dumb of me I guess). So now the phone is stuck and I'm going to try to install the original jellybean 4.1.2 for rogers and hopefully that will fix it.
As long as you can get into Odin download mode, your phone can be fixed.
Hi,
I am on Archidroid 1.7.11 , Kernel Boeffla 5.2 b 6a , my phone randomly reboots and is stuck on Samsung Logo, after trying 2 -3 times I am successfully able to get to the Main working screen and It works perfectly normally, but sometimes after 4-5 hours it again reboots and is stuck on Samsung screen , after 2-3 tires I am able to get it working normally. My phone is not hot, I tried 4.1.2 ROM and same thing happens with that ROM as well. Today, I formatted my EXT SD card and this problem is occurring after that (it might be a coincidence).
Is my problem related to:
1. SD Card
2. Power Button
3. ROM
4. Power button (I don't see that it is stuck).
or just 5. SDS?
Please advise as I am out of warranty and pretty worried about the same.
Sounds like firmware corrupting due to nand memory failure. Flash the official 4.3 stock rom, factory reset and test before you install or restore anything.
SDS is sudden, the phone dies and will never boot again.

Thank you very much for the reply. However It will be great if you can share a good firmware to flash (may be a link if you could) and also , do I need to flash it via ODIN with PIT ? Please advise.
I suggest try with new Kernel. Try stock or LiteGX kernel.
I am on latest Boeffla kernel and phone is working fine at the moment. I noticed that earlier it used to reboot when phone was not in use. While using, the phone never reboot earlier. Also, my voltage is sometimes unstable like 500 MA but replugging the charger pin solves the problem. Can someone suggest If my above problem is related to USB port on my phone?
Sent from a better Galaxy designed for humans!
Its been now alomost 24 hours since I got any reboot issue. In the interim I cleaned the USB port on my phone via toothbrush and also made sure that My power button is not stuck.
I wanted to share this so that any one who has this kind of problem in future can take the steps from the steps I took to troubleshoot this problem.
I will report back in case I see this issue again .
Thank you everyone for amazing help!
So my phone is having a problem, not sure if it is a bootloop or what Whenever my I tried to reboot my phone, it'll show my desktop for about 2-3 seconds then it reboots again and again. I have to removed my battery for about 30 minutes then put it back on and if im lucky, it'll boot successfully. Then when I play COC or used FB with my data network, it suddenly reboots, so another endless boot
I'm out of idea what to do, so please help me Here are the things I've tried:
1. Flashed stock rom from sam mobile through Odin
2. Factory reset in stock rom
3. Delete cache/dalvik and factory reset in stock recovery
4. Factory reset in TWRP (latest version) & advance wipe including my internal SD
5. Flash stock rom using KIES
But still no chance of getting out of this rebooting issue Is my phone damaged cause of too much flashing? Is the "FORMAT" option under the "WIPE" section in TWRP safe? and what will happen if I format?
thanks!
I have seen many posts like yours before and I don't think this is a software issue ( especially after you have flashed stock rom) It looks like your power button keeps getting stuck I recommend replacing it.

Agreed, flashing stock should solve it but seeing as it hasn't..
It seems on the power rail if you apply common sense, power button or battery failing would be my first 2.

hey guys. I don't think it was the power button? because after a few minutes I removed my battery and put it back on, it boots successfully. One more thing, my phones LED is replace on a samsung care center a month ago, so most of the hardware are brandnew including the power button.
Have you guys ever tried the "FORMAT" option in the TWRP? Hoping it would solve my problem

Its quite easy to solve do a megawipe >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tool-mega-wipesuper-wipefactory-t1832326 << this will wipe/format everything that could cause a software issue (Make sure you have a rom on ext SD because It deletes the Data, Cache, System and Preload partitions of your internal memory BE WARNED!) If that does not work then change battery if that fails to work it is hardware issue (maybe power button was not put back correctly or other hardware issue) But to be honest this is looking more and more like a hardware issue.:crying:

hey guys! One more observation, whenever my phone boots up successfully, it is working just fine. I can update the apps in the new rom through Play store. But when the apps requested permission for Google play services and I tap on it, it automatically reboots my phone. When I tried to login to my FB account using the apps in the playstore, it happen the same thing. On the other hand, when I use the stock browser, nothing seems to have a problem.
So, what's with the google play services?
