I am new to android so I'm trying to learn, and in the process jacked up my phone.
So I did something not so smart and updated my AT&T Galaxy S2 via these instructions:
androidauthority samsung-galaxy-s2-ice-cream-sandwich
(sorry it won't let me post the URL)
It actually worked, however, my back button doesn't work, and my search button doesn't work, I can make a call but can't hear anything and they can't hear me and vice versa.
I realized there are some samsung glaxy's out there that just have the home button, I figured I must have loaded one of those roms so I tried to load the "stock" rom to go back to where I was.
I can load the stock rom but when the phone boots up to the green android symbol startup wizard the phone just sends a cascade of errors one after another and you can't proceed any furhter.
So I went back to the orignial ICS from the post above, and the phone comes back up, only same problems but at least I can load it up and surf/get e-mail/text.
So I start playing around with mixing parts, and I find out that basebad is the "radio", and I can change that to different versions without changing the OS version, so I figure I must have some kind of mis match going on.
I used Odin and there is PIT, BOOTLOADER (I didn't touch bootloader) PDA PHONE and CSC.
Is it safe to assume if everything works but voice calls, that I need to find the right "phone" version? what about the back button and search buttons?
I have the "stock" PDA version, but I'm guessing that doesn't work because I need the matching PIT, and CSC? Where do/can I find those?
My phone shows network state connected, shows IMEI number and can surf the web but no voice, all other audio works.
Please help a newbie out, and help me understand what PIT, PDA/PHONE/CSC is all about so I can get my phone working again.
And just to be clear, I don't care if I'm back to 2.3.4 or whatever, I just want to get this thing working again.
There isn't a ICS ROM for our version of sgs2- i777. Only the i9100 international version. That's why your search and back button don't work. Also without kernel source we prob won't have a working ICS ROM. that's also why the in call audio doesn't work..

There is no working ICS for our device yet that ICS is for the GT-I9100, as far as restoring back to stock. There is ODIN One click which will return you back to stock? Can't find the best threads but this might help.

I'll try to find the ODIN one click but the one I have doesn't have that option, my other problem is a lot of the links I'm finding for stock roms are hosted by mega upload and of course those are all gone now.

Hopefully whatever you flashed previously didn't have a PIT or bootloader...
Now that fileserve is down I'm going to try and fix the stock ROM upload links in a day or two. The question is - Where?
And anyone who says Dropbox dies - Dropbox is NOT suitable for uploading ROM images, it'll blow through the 2GB Dropbox limit in no time flat.

It had a PIT, I think I just learned a very expensive lesson, the phone now just stits at the screen that says firmware upgrade encountered an issue and it just sits there, can't even boot into download mode.

I second Mediafire, it doesn't restrict speeds for free users, and, as for the ads, there's always Adblocker+

No, they limit total storage to 2GB for free accounts - I already have a few hundred megs for personal use, and 2-3 ROMs would blow through my remaining storage instantly.
I think it's possible to recover from a bogus PIT flash (and someone did manage to do it after an ICS screwup), but I'm not sure how - I've never done it myself.

How about minus.com. 10gb free storage and clean interface.
Ok I'm back up and running, I managed to find a download for stock firmware that wasn't hosted on mega upload, only took a few hours to download it
Odin could still see it so I loaded up the new firmware and it works, I don't fully understand it because no matter what firmware I tried the startup screen wouldn't change, the OS would clearly change, and I could change things like the baseband and see that change but that start screen wouldn't ever change.
After my phone "blew up" and wouldnt' even go into download mode I hit it again with stock firmware and the startup screen changed this time and it worked.
What is funny is I tried the same firmware more than once with no positive effects, it wasn't until I managed to piss the phone to the point download mode woudln't even come up that the firmware fixed my problem.
Why is that, was that part of the firmware locked or something?
What do the different parts control?
I think I figured out:
PDA must be the actual OS version with apps/kernal/bloatware
Phone is the modem version
what does PIT and CSC modify?

They will add 250mb for each referred by you person who opened a new dropbox account. I bet you won't have any troubles with that if you post your link and ask people to follow/signup here on xda forums.

I thought MIUI was up and running with ICS for the i777?
I can't post you a link, but youtube search GalnetMIUI ICS Android 4.0 ROM for Rooted AT&T Galaxy S2! [SGH-I777]
poster's name is zedomax (I cant post links)
No?
For what it's worth, I followed all the links provided by this guy and it turned out to be the international version once I installed it, but his video, all the buttons seem to work, for whatever thats worth.

Unfortunately, that's old news. That video is of the old version of Galnets MIUI that is based off of the 4.0.1 framework and not true ICS. We have a much better 4.0.1 framework based version of the official MIUI ROM in the dev forums, and I use it on a daily basis on my I777. Shep is currently working on getting the MIUI 4.0.3 ICS ROM built for our phones, and it looks promising.

Samsung didn't bother to change the yellow triangle warning bootscreen for the AT&T model. If you root your phone, it will show gt-i9100. It is the SGH-I777 though.

No, the Galnet stuff was a framework hack, not true ICS by any means (not even remotely). We should end this tangent ASAP, as Galnet discussion is not permitted here (For a wide variety of reasons, their releases broke about half of XDA's rules).

Yup. If you have the yellow warning triangle, you'll see I9100 on the I777.
If you don't have the triangle, you just see "Galaxy S II" with no model number - but we ARE SGH-I777. International is GT-I9100.
After downloading SteVEs Custom Kernel and ROM for my Galaxy Player 4.0 I got it stuck in boot loop by accidentally holding down the volume and power button. I used this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472897 to fix it, but now I have another problem. The clock app and all of the Samsung widgets don't work. I get this error when I try to open the clock "The application Clock (processcom.sec.android.app.clockpage) has stopped unexpectedly. Try again". I can open any widget that isn't from Samsung, but the Samsung widgets give an error and won't work. Is there any way I can fix this? Do I need to download a different ROM? My device is not rooted by the way. I have tried to search the forum for a definitive answer, but I haven't come up with one. I'm sorry if I missed it. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks but I already found this thread. It gives a new clock apk, but there's no fix for the widgets. This is what one of the posters says "Well as expected it DOES fix the issue with the clockpackage. The problems with the widgets still remain. At least we officially know that this version of "package_us2.3.5.tar.md5" is corrupt (or it could be a poorly modified version). I wonder if we should report this to the rest of the fourm that the so-called official firmware for the YP-G1 models is corrupted." Is there a different stock ROM I can download that isn't corrupted?

Try the factoryfs.rfs from my recovery thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850
If you're using odin I think you can download the kwipper's rom but the download speed is really slow.
Thanks. Do I need to download Heimdall to use your factoryfs.rfs? If so it would be easier to use the other rom you mentioned because I already have odin. I'm currently using STeVES Kernel 3.0. Will that be a problem? I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions I just really don't want to brick my device. Thanks again.

You can try to use the other rom but you will not be able to use the 3 button combinaison (download + recovery) and you will lose everything too. This is why it is better to use a separate partitions. (just follow the instructions and don't repartition.)
Hopefully I posted this in the right forum, If not please move it!
Ok, So I updated my phone via Kies and got the official ICS update (Finally) for my AT&T Galaxy Note, Problem is, as expected... it unrooted my phone and I'd like it rooted again, I want to keep the new official stock ICS rom and just want it rooted again to delete all that garbage bloatware to keep my phone sharp, any help?
Do i just re-root it doing it the same way I did before?
Will it ruin my new ICS rom?
Can anyone link me to the files that will root my phone but keep the ICS Stock Rom?
I didnt have a single problem Rooting it the first time on ginerbread, but Im not sure what will happen with a different official rom installed. Just dont wanna have to reinstall ICS again or something, when I just spent about an hour setting it back to how I had everything, then remembered updating unrooted me.
Any advice or help is really appreciated!
Thanks!
Not really in right section more like a Q&A section.
However the devs need a little time to sort through all the code but these guys are smart and root will come soon and they will proudly announce it. Just enjoy for now.

And I hope im not asking too much, but can anyone link me to the files I need directly? The last ones I used was from a source outside of XDA (xda was down for maintenance) and I think it gave me a virus on my computer and after doign a system restore today i dont wanna do that again lol. so if its not a problem can someone link me to the right files i need?
Thanks everyone!
Yes.
Now look one post above your last one.
To see the links Mr. Joe is referencing you need to be on a pc.
To install CWM you need to be on a pc.
To root you need a pc.
Mr.Joe would only post trusted links.

I successfully updated my Note to ICS yesterday and want to root it again as well. I looked through the Note section in BigJoe's thread, but can't figure out exactly what files I need. I rooted it with Gingerbread without issue. I've looked through the unlocking/rooting section and the one thread that explains how to root specifically says that the method will NOT work with the official ICS update.
Sorry to sound so dense, but could someone link exactly which files I/we need to root the official ICS via Odin?
What you asked for is in the third post.

Hi,
A couple of months back I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 using Odin 1.85. My phone is a UK I19100, on Three. Today, I wanted to unroot it, so being a fool, I followed the guide at galaxys2root. com
I have downloaded firmware for a different carrier, and when starting my phone, I have error messages such as 'android.process.acore has stopped working' and I find that the 3 store has disappeared. Also, the phone no longer works, being extremely slow and unresponsive.
Please could someone guide me on how to get back to the latest official Three UK stock kernel and firmware for the SGS2.
Thanks guys, much appreciated, really stuck here.

You don't have to flash stock firmware to unroot your phone...
You can flash any country's firmware you want, as long as it's for your device. So I suggest flashing the latest I9100XWLPX firmware.

Be careful in the future, I don't trust any site other than XDA

Thanks for the link and your quick reply. Will this work for a UK Three SGS2? I don't want to install something that will mess it up
I installed this firmware: I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 before, and it ruined the phone, the three store had gone, the phone unresponsive, whenever touching an icon it crashes and needs reboot etc.
Also, will this firmware put it back to original factory software, ie. stock everything ICS and unroot?
Sorry, kinda a newbie at this.
Thanks,

ok, so it seemed my digitizer was broke on my old phone so i have bought another s2 (yes its pretty old now but i like it and got used to it).
it is on gingerbread android version 2.3.5. everythin works as it should. only thing i dont like about it is the layout of it as i have been used to 4.1.2 jb.
do i update to the latest firmware 4.1.2 or do i leave it? as it seemed there were others having rotation issues with latest JB. Or will i be fine as my old phone was broke.
thanks

Yeah....your phone will prompt you to update.....usually via kies air.......
But be advised, if you kies air it, the update will be an incremental one rather than a 'full' one.....it minimises the cost of transferring the data to your phone over the (in most cases) 3g network. If you want the 'full' update, connect your phone to your PC/laptop via USB and do it that way........
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
