[Q] Galaxy S3 getting Low Scores On Antutu - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Couple of weeks ago my SG3 Suddenly Started to Crash time by the time,I done a Factory reset and Wiped Out the Cache , Everything Seemed Nice and Smooth Until Yesterday when I decided to RUn a Antutu Test My Last Antutu Test Score was like 15800 but this time I got 9700 With just scoring 870 Points on CPU Integer !! All this While PowerSaving mode was off !! It's really odd !! How a Mobile phone can Degrade like 30% in just 2 Months ?? Is there a Rational explanation for this?

Yes- don't use benchmarks as a tool to judge your device capabilities.
My device, for example, runs the latest custon rom with some additional tweaks which cause it to run WAY faster then most S3s I compared it to (and some s4 devices as well) in terms of responsiveness, game performance, memory usage, and battery drain- but it scores in untuntu varies between 15k-17k.
So, your only worry should be if the device starts to feel too slow for your needs- which can be easily solved by using other rom, kernel or even a different android version.
Ps- what kind of rom + android ver are you using?

Everything is on Stock,(International Version)(4.1.4) I have a Nexus 5 for my Custom Builds and I was thinking to give this S3 to my Mom
I know that Benchmarks aren't everything but getting 900 on CPU integer ?? I finally managed to get like 14k Score on Antutu but there comes another problem the "Freezing Problem" It freezes Randomly (While U can see the Live Wallpaper animations working but everything else is frozen !) sometimes it takes like 72h to freeze sometimes it freezes and after a Hard Reset(Holding Volume Up and Power Button) when it boots up again it freezes in just like 10 minutes ! My main interest is to Know WHY THE HELL is this happening .My last tary would be installing a Custom ROm and see what happens ,So Can I know what's your Build for S3 ?

Mmm... sounds like a SDS issue, try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check to see if
the device has the risky chip. For more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091045
Anyway, i'm using this (awesome) 4.3 custom version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060403 (better SDS fix included)
PS- did you mean 4.1.2 ver?

As it says in the SDS thread, 4.1.2 fixes prevents SDS devices from becoming completely bricked, but in a cause of seldom freezes. So, i suggest trying to upgrate to 4.3 rom I gave you (even without possessing the known emmc chip), it should have better prevention against freezes.

As the BrickBug Checker Says,I Have VTU00M eMMC which is the Faulty Chip
So on Galaxy S3 I must first Unlock Bootloader & root to install a Custom Rom ?
Btw Thank U Very Much for your Quick Responses

Yep.
-Download Samung Kies (not v3)
-Backup all your files & apps
-Download Odin 3.07: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686 (use guide in lower post)
-Download newest CF-Auto root: http://download.chainfire.eu/229/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip + extract it
-Flash the .tar file of CF-root using odin (use the guide provided above)
-See if SuperSU was installed in your device (ie-rooted)
-Download newest Philz recovery: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9300 .tar file (6.12)
-Flash it using Odin
-Download the given rom and put it in device's storage
-Reboot to recovery mode, wipe to install new rom + wipe cache partition + wipe delvik cache (under advanced)
-Install the zipped rom

i Try Nothing Change
That the phone gets really hot when playing games is nothing odd. When you say overheating, do you mean that you get errors? When the cores is working at full load you can expect the phone to get really hot, but that doesnt mean anything is wrong.
some kernels do tend to heat up the phone than normal temp,i exp tht wiv a siyah version...but wiv stock rom an stock rooted kernel thephone dosnt heat tht much now iam on redpill an a rough use heats the phone at normal temp.
so i should use siyah kernel ?
any help please ??!!

Ypu can flash Siyah kernel, but not UV or UC(don't use set cpu).
So if i Install Siyah Kernel the problem will Solved ?
Advice please
I am planning to install this one, please give some advice If I should not, given the heating problems?
Fine, no heat issues for me or most others.
I'm running the latest resurrection remix and have no heating problems, I'm on siyah 3.1.2 kernel. I haven't had a single problem with remix v1.7.
Hope you sort your problem

Have the same issue, i'm trying to find what it is, pretty annoying. Rr 1.8.1 and siyah 3.2
Sent from space with my GT-i9100
I am also having the same problem. The area around the camera gets real hot, even it's hard to touch. It happens whenever I start using the phone. It doesn't matter what I'm doing actually. I've restarted the phone many time but not to any avail.
Well I've wanted to update this for those who might need information later. I've been trying to find the reason of heating which apparently started after installing Resurrection but the phone was not super cool before. Sometimes it would get hot when charging as well.
To assess the cause, I've tried installing different kernels, speedmod, siyah, etc. The problem persisted. So it can't be due to kernel (I was using the same kernel before installing and the device was not heating up).
Now I'm going to try Sensation Rom and see if this will solve the problem. I really hope it will, otherwise I will start hating my phone...
change the modem, do a complete wipe.

New Phone.I need some advices

Well i got a second hand S2 and i would like to "clean" it and install a better rom and a better firmware as the battery life is very short about 17 hours.
My problem is idk which one is better for my device. Should i stay on Giner or pass to ICS?

Flashed
ROM - XWLA4_CheckromRevo_HD_V6 (Most votes on a pool thread)
KERNEL - DarkKnight_2.5.2 (found it on checkrom page, i could not find a pool for kernels.. )
any advices for a good kernel?
battery life still poor
Few days ago i managed to get a 25% (as can be seen on Old Results attachment) display usage but suddenly has raised to over 45% and no matters what... it wont go below that level.
You can have a try of Siyah's Kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838
I would suggest to go with a good ICS rom.
I am currently using Hydrogen ICS + latest Siyah kernel and absolutely recommend this setup

well if you are getting 45% for display you must be using your phone or your display is turned on alot.. download betterbatterystats_xda_edition here on XDA .. its free (just search) and check your kernel Wake_Locks
also CPU spy from market to check is your phone going into deep sleep

Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
no recovery install cwm kernel
Root + CWM .

in recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery

Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware GB
Though at this point you could flash a ICS stock if so desired

Ok I`m back
Flashed ICS 4.0.3 official I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO
Rooted with CF-Root CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5

FWIW, 17 hours is not bad, depending on what you're doing.
If you are actively using the phone with a screen on time of at least a few hours, with full sync going, that's actually pretty good.
If this is pure stand-by time (you're not touching the phone at all) it's on the mediocre side, but still not terrible if you have full sync going.
I can get 24+ hours if I hardly use the phone at all, or about 6-7 hours if I'm constantly using it for web surfing, facebooking, XDA, games, GPS, etc.
Battery life is completely subjective to how you use the phone.

[Q] No multi-dpi support by NEAK/Cherrypicker kernels

Hello Guys !!!
I have been using serendipity and ultimatum rom with siyah kernel 3.2.4 for quite some time .. I'm a sucker for changing DPI to lower like 215-220 as I don't like big icons covering all screen space..
Yesterday I read somewhere that NEAK has better battery life as compared to siyah, so I tried to flash that.. however to my surprise I found that it just got hanged as sammy boot screen and didn't even boot.
Then just to test, I also tried cherripicker kernel and faced same issue with that too. then finally I reflashed my siyah and everything was back to normal and booted as it should.
My question is, has anyone noticed this issue before where only siyah supports multi-dpi and no-other sammy kernel ? Forgive me if its something that is understated somewhere and I missed it, but I found it kinda surprising as it should be something supported with all kernels...

I kind of doubt that it's the multi-dpi issue and it's more of a problem with ExTweaks settings. Before you flash a different kernel, I would clear all your ExTweak settings (under CWM > Kernel Specific) then wipe Dalvik and Cache, and then flash.

Your flashing something wrong, Kernels have no support of DPI.
Its the ROM, and the applications that are affected by DPI change

[Q] Screen off but won't wake, Why?

Hello SGS2 users! Has anyone experienced this problem before?
I was originally running VK 5.1.2 without a problem then I flashed RR 2.5.3; didn't really like the theme then I came across PFittech ROM GTX which I thought "Wow!".
After flashing, I noticed that when the screen went off and locked, it won't wake and I need to pull battery and reboot.
As you may know that is extremely inconvenient so I flashed stock rom and went back to VK 5.1.2 but this hasn't stopped the problem
I have done all the wipes (cache, dalvik, factory/data and format system!

Ur having SOD, sleep of death... when ur phone enters deepsleep it wont get up.
this is frequently related with UV, or poor bus freq.
u should flash a kernel cleaner like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738
or any other. then u have to flash a new kernal.
Thanks mate! Will try this now
Still there
Firstly, I flashed stock firmware, then I flashed cf-root. Went into recovery and done a full wipe and flashed the script.
I done another wipe then installed VK Rom (I have never had a problem with this) and left the phone for 30 secs on screen off and it came back.
What should I do next?
Should I check all settings for CPU and GPU? Revert them to standard? I don't touch those settings as I don't have a great knowledge of changing volts and clock speeds.
Maybe you could let it on stock (unrooted) and see if it happens again...

I flashed the stock LPB firmware and used it for a full day and I never experience any SoD. Tried a few custom roms and still having the error.
Although there may seem there is nothing wrong with the phone, I have never had a problem with any roms I use. All the roms I am trying are previous downloads that have worked successfully so I doubt there is any corruption.
I won't be giving up and I will be trying everything and anything... the now I am going to try Gingerbread based roms and see if I still get the error. If anyone else has any more ideas please tell me.

I always do a full wipe but today I've seen something unusual.
Kernel Panic Upload Mode came up when the phone was off?
I am flashing back to GB and see if any SoD appear.
Mate, there is something wierd with ur phone...
There sure is.. I am running KI3 GB with CF Root and not received any SoD. Seems to be only on custom roms?
Good news! I fixed it!
What I did:
First of all, I had an extended battery and I swapped it for the old battery (Because of case with stand it won't fit)
Flashed stock GB (XXKI3)
Flashed CF-Root KI3
Full Wipe (Cache, Factory/Data, Dalvik, Battery stats)
Format System
Flashed Kernel Cleaner
Flashed VK 5.1.2
Flashed Siyah 3.3.2
So after doing all this, the SoD has gone. So it must be a problem with Fluxi on my device.
I may be wrong but after doing this the problem stopped and I am happy again
So thank you to you all who tried to help!
I have the same problem, except my SOD also has high battery drain even though the phone is pretty much useless. Very annoying when you are relying on the alarm clock. Did you also notice high battery drain?
I found it happened on Thebyani 4.3, not on 4.4, and now it happened on 4.5. Im hoping the kernel cleaner and the latest Siyah kernel will fix it. Any kernels you guys recommend if it still happens?

I had a high battery drain already abd i bought a new extended battery. I am charging the device the now and it has heated but i took it off and turn it off to cool. I am going to recalibrate the battey
Try doing what I did to see if it helps.

[Q] Problems for flashaholics

Hi guys. I am a newbie for flashing ROMs. I have an international version of galaxy s2. I rooted it a couple months back with zip file in external SD and flashing it in stock recovery. I am currently running stock kernel,ROM version 4.1.2. Recently I came across many different ROMs and trying one by one. I have taken a nandroid backup of the stock ROM in case something goes wrong. What my question is that, will something happen to the phone hardware like motherboard or processor if I keep flashing ROMs repeatedly like twice or thrice in a week????? I don't want to lose my phone forever. I have tried 3 different ROMs in this week.
Thanks in advance. :good:

Hahah you're safe mate, I've flashed 3 in a day once before. I don't always do that, but so far nothing has gone wrong :good: As long as you wipe properly in between ROMs you should be fine. I use a script (ROMNuke) by hawkerpaul here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
Basically flash that script in CWM and then immediately flash the new ROM. It cleans out all of the old rubbish from the new ROM so you get a completely fresh install of the new ROM, important if you flash a lot. Keep flashing till you find one you like! There's plenty of good ones
I think it depends on what you do with the ROM,if you over clock it change voltages etc ore don't follow a clean procedure when flashing new ROMs "full wipe" it may damage your device over time, this because some times when you flash another ROM if there are any leftovers of previous ROMs it may cause strange behavior on your phone like overheats, sudden reboots, sods, even brick the device

I have used overclock CPU and GPU (graphics) and haven't had any problems. I currently only overclock GPU though, scrolling is smooooooth I've also mucked around quite a bit with the voltages, although undervolt/overvolt is probably not a good idea. I don't make a habit of changing voltages. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34153152&postcount=15576 if you plan on changing voltage settings. That post also talks about overclock, and according to it, overclocking is not recommended. That's the 'professional' stance if you like. I can tell you however that thousands of XDA users underclock/overclock/undervolt/overvault on a regular basis. Up to you if you want to go down that route.
OP like I said, use that script in between flashes and you'll be fine
