congrats. i don't have enough money to get n e phone. im saving for something else. I don't want to pay contract either. they are annoying and they are more expensive than prepaid...
if i was gonna get anyphone, it would either be the HTC one x or the galaxy note 2... both coming to TMobile USA
I dont like HTCs.. they are so complex to root.. S-ON, bootloader,Hboot, radio with 15 digit version code.. cant they make it simple??
LG is far easy to play with!!

Complexity is a small price to pay for a good phone but I also consider complexity a good learning experience..

A good learning experience if you have a contract phone, atleast you get it replaced...if I want a better phone I have to look thru eBay or Craigslist....I agree HTC phones are a bit annoying to root,I had a g1 in 08 and it was a pain in my ass...I got this LG almost two years ago and all I had to do was use gingerbreak than use flash image to flash recovery.....in order for me to root the Samsung Galaxy S 4g I have to use a tool called Odin one click....so basically even rooting the SGS wont be as easy as this LG was but atleast it has more ram and its an armv7 device

Dear All;
I know that this questions was asked by everybody, and the answer is very complicated, but here I'll ask a specific question regarding the specifications.
here I'm evaluating the hardware, but not the design, weight and dimensions.
After my advanced search I found that Samsung GT-N7100 Galaxy Note II 64GB has the top level specifications that android smartphones could have up-to-date.
Regarding the following:
CPU: Samsung Exynos 4412 (1.6GHz)
RAM: 2GiB
ROM: 59.6 GiB
Display: color Super AM-OLED (5.5") (720 x 1280)
Camera: 8MP with AutoFocus & LED Flash, 1.9MP front Camera
Expansion Slots: microSD, microSDHC, TransFlash, microSDXC
Battery Capacity: 3100 mAh
Wireless-LAN: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n
Analog+Radio:Receiver: FM radio (87.5-108MHz) with RDS
My question is, Is it really the best specifications?, Did I miss important specifications that I should take it in my consideration?

If you consider that the note is a "phone", then, yes, it has the best hardware. Htc one x+ comes right after it.

yea...my username sucks...deal with it...
Your not missing anything but it has the same CPU as the S3 and more RAM. You're not going to notice a difference really unless your multi tasking a lot. You may want to wait for the next nexus phone though to see what it has to offer. The best hardware doesn't necessarily provide the best user experience. Also if you plan on playing Tegra games then the best hardware would probably be a phone with a Tetra 3 as some features are only available in those. Basically overall yes the Note II is the beast.
Thanks for your replies
But 1 more question, the problem I counter with all samsung ROMs that it should have main frameware and then to flash the custom rom over, but the story is completely difference with HTC, that the custom ROM is standalone ROM. Am I right?
Because, I bought my HTC Desire HD 2 yrs before & it was that days best HTC products for android, and after 2 years, it still performing good. But, it's the time form renew. really, my plan is HTC, but the note 2 specifications, try changing my mind.
Advice plz.

I'm sorry but I'm fairly new to flashing ROMs etc. I have had no trouble doing so with the excellent tools available here. I'm insure exactly what your question is but I'm running SuperNexus ROM on my S3 and it was pretty easy to get there. You have to wipe before putting the ROM on... not just flash it over it I think. As far as I know the ROMs are standalone...
HTC are OK but I think they have too much bloat. I had original desire which I loved but I find their newest phones to be full of useless software.
I seriously doubt you will be disappointed by a Note II, but be careful the phablet form factor is far larger than the HTC Desire HD.

I'm looking to trade up and exchange my current 16gb to the 32gb before my 14 days is up. What I want with this thread is for EVERY POSSIBLE USER that has received their 32gb S4 to confirm whether or not it came with the ME7 update. This will help myself and hopefully a few others decide whether or not it is in our best interest to make the switch or just buy and SD Card to help us sleep a little better at night. Personally, I like the latest and greatest and the more memory the better. I have no problem filling up space (not intended to be a fat joke). Please post if your 32gb S4 came with the updated ME7 or under.
Thank you!
I got mine yesterday it didn't have the update. Rooted and loked right now.

Thanks for the few replies. Anyone else with the 32gig version please feel free to chime in.
Are you getting it online or in store? I've thought of this as well and figured i would do it in store but ask them to power on the device and look for myself first. But I'm sure a root method will eventually turn up.

I traded up to the 32GB, arrived today via FedEx. Did not come with the update installed, but did download it immediately OTA as soon as I activated it. That said, you have the option not to install it once it downloads.

I blocked it by rooting real fast and doing the following.
Go to /cache/fota and delete the update.zip and then remove the permissions on the /fota folder the update can't download.
Here's what it does.. Both of my 32G came with MDK.. but both of them downloaded the ME7 update OTA when I activated the phones on my Sim cards and got it set up. However it gives u the option to install now or install later. If u don't want to update then hit install later..

Oh yeah, didn't have the update, got mine on Friday. Although it did download the update, I just set the time to install the next day, then I put a custom ROM on this beast
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Got mine on Wednesday. They were setting it up at the store and I could see the update loading. He had to pull the battery to do something with the SIM card, so the update stopped, and when the phone came back on (he was still setting it up to activate) he did something to delay the update.
The next morning, after having the phone on the charger all night (but shut off), when I turned it on in the morning, it was installing the update (must have somehow downloaded the rest overnight (but the phone was off? ). So I just let it go.
Didn't have much of a chance to do much with the phone besides downloading my apps the first day and setting up my go launcher settings, so having the update day 2,I couldn't tell any difference.
But this phone is a ton snappier than my old phone -HTC Rezound, and loving it so far. My main reason to root in the past was to get the latest version of Android, since HTC and Verizon neglected my old phone. This one has the latest version already and with 32gb internal, I'm not concerned with the bloat...
I ordered a 32GB S4 via Verizon's website on 7/26 and it was still on the VRUAMDK software version. Luck of the draw I suppose!

How much was the 32gb? I got my s4 16gb a few days ago and it was like $249 upgrade price at verizon store with $50 mail in rebate :crying:
I did my phone upgrade via flywire.com
The phone arrived without the sim card installed.
I left the sim card out
Rooted it, twrp, installed apps via wifi, froze SDM using titanium backup, made a nandroid backup, installed cleanROM.
One can do a lot without inserting the sim card.
Samsung asks to download something initially (over wifi) , and when booting up after performing a data reset. I always said NO just in case it was the dreaded ME7 update
Online order here. It came with it.
I have a 16 Gb S4 with a 64Gb ext SD card and just heard about the 32 Gb being available online through Verizon. I'm on day 2 with the S4 so I have plenty of time to exchange/upgrade to the 32 Gb and I was hoping to have some S4 members chime in and give me their thoughts on my situation. 2 year contract is a huge deal so I really appreciate any and all advice shared...stay with the 16 Gb or pay the price difference and order a 32 Gb device...

I would pay for the price difference and get a 32 gig but they only come in black. 1 being that even though we have apps2sd it'll only be certain types of files and with the 16 gig your only getting 9gigs to mess with. Black and 32 gig would be a better trade off in the long run if you were looking to trade your phone. More storage.

I appreciate ya chiming in hovax615... Do you have 16/32?
Ya my S3 has 32 GB of internal storage. I never had an issue with "not" enough internal storage therefore I never even looked at the internal storage stats. What I'm wondering is, on my S4, if I were to watch what I DL to the internal then would 16 GB be enough.

Ya that's a big concern. I'm a flashaholic and I currently have an MDK which I'm finding out is my only option in regards to rooting/flashing. Yes I'm using my 64 GB card in my S4. If I order a 32 GB will I have the option of turning it on, checking the build number & refusing it if its an ME7 build?. I'm gonna call Big Red and ask some questions...
post a screenshot of your internal storage stats on 16GB S4
Can someone, that has a custom ROM loaded on an S4 w/16 GB int storage, post a screenshot showing the internal storage stats??
Are you looking for custom ROMs? That could complicate things as you'd want to get an MDK version. Otherwise it's a no brainer - pay for the 32GB. It will remove concerns many have about internal storage. Heck, I even run short just because of the downloads folder - I know, I need FolderMount but just have not done that yet.
32GB is my vote.
Damn Jenna!!! It's a $35 restocking fee (although the rep that sold me the 16GB device said there wasn't a 32 GB Verizon version offered) and an additional $100 for the 32 GB version. That's $135 more...**** I got my class 10 64 GB SD for $49 at Best Buy 6 months ago. I don't know that's a lot of money. I just gained root access and I'm bout to flash a ROM to assess the internal storage...
I say just stay with the 16GB one of its on mkd and flash one of the me7 roms and you'll be able to move apps to the sdcard and check folder mount to move app data to the sdcard.

Yesr, MKD outta the box, been flashing the night away. I'm on Eclipse TW & Ive not had the opportunity to slim the Rom down yet but so far, on a rough setup, I'm ending up with around 5 GB of free internal storage. I did brick my phone for about an hour last night. I didn't think I was gonna be able to recover but I finally was able to get into TWRP, flashed the stock MDK modem, reinstalled SuperSu (I have no idea why that worked!) and that got the phone to boot. Anyway I ordered the 32 GB which should be here Friday so Ive got some more time to work on this 16 GB to get a better idea of what I'm looking at while running custom ROM's...I'll keep posting updates...

Here's to hoping the new phone arrives with MDK. Many people seem fine with the 16gb version, but I held out as I plan to keep the phone for a while and wanted as much as I could get - 64gb would have been better but I figured the chance of that was about the same an Congress actually doing something.

Contemplating on buying the E970,
been comparing it with the Nexus 4 and the Xperia SP since they are the only phones I like in my budget. I'd like to know your opinion. I am impressed by the hardware of the phone, but I'd like to know a few things before I make the purchase.
Firstly, will I have issues with the network or any other feature using the AT&T unlocked version in India?
Also, is the notification LED on the E970 RGB?

LED is red only
...and it's an awesome phone with lots of life left with the right XDA support.

Please for your own good, get the Nexus 4. Either that or live in the Nexus 4's shadow. If i could go back, I'd get the N4, you get pure and stable roms from Google and of course, you get updates faster
At this point in time, considering what the LGOG brings to the table vs the Nexus 4, I wouldn't buy a Nexus 4 but that's just me personally. Can't tolerate devices without expandable storage myself, so the microSD card slot on the LGOG just makes it a must-buy vs the Nexus 4, not to mention the addition of actual LTE support without jumping through hoops to get it working.
And considering even the Nexus 4 is now in a holding pattern of sorts to get the factory KitKat image, being a "Nexus device" isn't helping it be any better than the LGOG at all.

I don't get this idea of shadowing. If such way of thinking is correct, then every device is in nexus's shadow. I think the goal is to have a good working phone at the end of the day. This phone has a good variety of roms to help you get there: official supports of CM, Pacman, slim, all the unofficials and the very good stock rom. Also this uses sd card, nexus doesn't

Yep, made up 3 months ago. You should get rid of your OG if you got one so you don't have to be in the shadow
Dolby Audio really?
The sound on E970 SUCKS! I use a headphone amplifier but even with that the sound is crap. Dolby Audio really? I miss having a removable battery. Lastly, when the phone gets hot, there is a built in cap that limits the brightness of the screen. (Live in SoCal High Desert with summer temps of 110 F)
The quad core is fast and can handle quite a bit at one time. I listen to music while playing games, reading emails, cruzin' the Play Store and the internet all at the same time. Haven't had any crashes yet. There is plenty of storage internal storage. I have a lot of downloaded music and a few large games and have yet to roll over to the 16 GB external card.
Biggest disappointment is definitely the sound!!!!!!
Loving my LGOG. The sound is a bit weak. But everything else is great. I would recommend getting a best buy type warranty or a case for your phone. Gorilla glass is slippery like wet snot. I've had the back glass beak twice due to the phone sliding away and falling.
I'd buy it again.

Sorry, but would someone explain in brief what S-Off and S-On mean?
Also, I'm considering getting the Optimus G Pro instead because I find the looks more appealing and few extra pros over the E970. But the development there seems more or less stalled. Gotta risk it, I guess.

I'll try, others feel free to add upon this. Different manufacturers use different mechanism to secure their devices. With htc its "security-on", it restrict what hboot you may run on your devices. I had an htc evo v/ htc evo 3d, with security-on I could only run hboot 1.07.07.07 whatever which only allowed stock based ics roms. After achieving s-off I was able to put a different hboot on my phone , i had jbear 1.47.47.47 i think.. which in terms allowed me to run a lot more roms. S-on also restrict what you may flash. For example firmware and radios, here we call it modem? Don't know the difference, can't be flashed with s-on.
