APK's - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

HI. I was wondering if I can delete the apk's in my root app folder after it was install to save space or do I need to keep theme. I have over 2gb of data in the app apk folder and I was looking into free more space by deleting theme. so can I ?...

If you want to run Sony firmware but want it a bit less bloat then try DoggRom or monxDIFIED (I think monx has some removed, but cant see what)

Apk's are program files so if you delete them they don't work. There's a thread somewhere about which system files you can delete safely http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46176101
You can uninstall themes etc normally through the app manager.
It's not like windows where you get an install file that you can delete afterwards.

If you are rooted then just go into /system/apps and delete the ones you want.
Then head to /data and delete the core apps you don't want. Its easy.
Just make sure you know what you're deleting. Lord made a list of ones that can be deleted and those that require other lib files so shouldn't be deleted.

okey dokey. thanks

/system full??

I just tried to copy new maps.apk into my sys/apps and it tries then tells me there is not enough space! When I go into settings apps have 129mb free on internal but root explorer reading 5.45mb free in system!!
Is this something to do with custom kernel (ZombiePanic v1.63) or permissions
The internal memory is shared between storage and RAM, if you've got alot of programs/widgets loaded then it may not be free. Check 'running services' and it will tell you how much free memory is left.

Running services says have 35mb free?? Anyways thanks for the response obsidian_eclipse will just install maps another way
What app do you use to copy the file? Try a different/better one like Root Explorer.

use titanium backup to see free memory systems ROM, because here the application system. why not install it? because it will be installed in internal memory.

You are talking about two different things. Internal storage is in /data not in /system
Yea I just used marked enabler and installed maps via market, just going to ignore systems folder as its free space size does not change when I install or delete things from it... as long as standard installations work will be happy

system/apps
you may want to look in
data/apps
as well
Astro File Manager has a built-in feature of backing up the apks of all your installed apps in your SD card.

Updated app like Gmail , market will be placed in data/app....
You can remove it but updates will be gone...
So delete old files from system/app from root explorer or titanium... place updatedapps in system/app....

Nexus 5 KitKat v4.4.x ... I deleted all APKs from /data/app and apps started crashing. I forced a reboot and stuck in animated google boot logo for 20 mins with nothing. I did the hard shutdown and into bootloader to go into recovery. I had to use nexus root toolkit v1.8.0 to reset to factory
its cause some of the apps which you installed were installed in data/app.. in your case you deleted it.. so the apps which installed in that folder wont work.. try re-flashing the rom.. thats the solution.. and i know its been a three months you posted this problem.. and now i guess you cleared that already...

Cannot delete .APK files?

When i download an app from google play and go install the app and open all is fine.
If i go back to the location of the .APK installation file and delete it,the app stops working?
I thought it was safe to delete the .APK files?
(deleting apk's to free up space)

I have used the APK extractor from f droid repo and I've never had a problem, even with system apps. Maybe your deleting more then just the APK files, although there are some I won't risk deleting like Google services framework.

Are you talking about deleting the .apk from /data/app? If so the app will no longer be installed and won't function correctly.
Sent from my XT1609 using Tapatalk
Correct from that folder.
Where else should i be deleting the apk's from?
You really should only delete apks that you don't use. Most apks you can uninstall the old fashioned way in settings, the exception to this is apps in the /system partition. (/system/app/ and /system/priv-app/ or could be in /vendor or /system/vendor/) The apps in these folders are not able to be uninstalled, and typically the provider adds in some apps of their choosing...this is called bloat.
Basically, you need to search the system partition and ONLY delete bloat...if you are unsure if something is bloat or not, search it before deleting as you could brick the device. Make a backup FIRST with TWRP or other custom recovery!
