[Q] Cannot delete apk files?

Hi guys.
First off, Moderators, please do not move this question to the general questions and answers forum. This is specifically for Galaxy Ace users.
I'm usng E.S. File Explorer. Please confirm the following:
1. Stock apk files are located in /system/app.
2. apk files of apps that are downloaded from 'Market' and installed in INTERAL storage are located in /data/app.
3. apk files of apps that are downloaded from 'Market' and installed in SD CARD are
located in /mnt/asec.
If all three are correct, my question is:
What's all this talk from other users that apk files stored in my phone can be deleted to free up the internal storage?
I know I can't and should not delete the stock apk files (i'm not using custom ROM).
As for the ones in /mnt/asec, they cannot be deleted.
The ones in /data/app, I can delete but that would render the apps unusable.
What am I missing? I thought apk files from the 'market' can be deleted?
U r right with the location of the files...well you can delte some files in system/app to free up your system space and then use an app like titatium.backup to convert a user app into dystem app(note only some apps can be converted to work properly ..others will force close) ..thereby u can use ur rom.space too(i do it personally)....then u can also move ur dalvik cache into the sd card and GREATLY increase your internal memory..ull get tired installing apps but yhe space will never will up.. ..to do this u must root yr phone ..partition ur sd card and install link2sd ..its an awesome app
Dont forget to hit the thanks button if i helped ;-) ;-)

I deleted download manager2.3.4.apk and downloads 2.3.4.apk and now the problem is that Play store(market) is force closing every time I open it.I have titanium backup of those two apps but when I try to restore, phone reboots.

[Q] System Rom

i rooted my phone and install cm9 then i want to move all my internal stuff into my system rom but is already 6mb out of 200mb how do i clean it up?
Use titanium backup
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
using it
i want to know that format system in recovery formats the internal or system rom.
Cause the first time i use titanium backup i move everything on the rom on the stock version then i keep on doing that cause my phone goes bricked cause of uninstalling the wrong things that causes my phone. Then i finally got it running but somehow i use every format in the recovery and did factory reset then system rom still did not increase the size?
Remove the unnecessary apps from the rom using titanium backup or link2sd.....or replace the high memory consuming apps with other alternatives...like trebuchet with zeam....etc.
System Rom
I free system rom in the following way:
1) Remove apps like All live wallpaper,Gtalk, text to speech etc.which i don't use.But don't delete "live wallpaper picker".
2) Go to root/system/media/audio by using root explorer or else and mount r/w.Delete heavy sized ringtones,Notifications etc. upto 50kb.
Can try this. I m managing ICS this way.Other suggestions are most welcome!!

[q] convert user app to system app

Hi everyone.
I'd like to know how to move some user apps stored in /data/app to /system/app, and don't get force close. I tried with link2sd, romtoolbox, rootexplorer, but always got fc.
I've deleted a lot of system apps and I want to use that unused storage for some user apps.
I hope you understand what I want to do.
Anybody can help me? :good:

Well... The best way to do that is to edit the ZIP for the ROM you want and flash the changed ZIP through CWM. If you're doing it on the phone, make sure you set the permissions to 644, after you move them.

I checked permissions under rootexplorer. I gave the same permissions as every system app has. Should I go to terminal and type chmod 644 ...?
I'll try with the modified zip. Thanks for help. I'll tell you what happens.
EDIT: I tried the 644 method. Sitill force closing.
EDIT2: With Zip modified method works with some apps. I'm still looking for a phone method with rootexplorer.

If you want to run Sony firmware but want it a bit less bloat then try DoggRom or monxDIFIED (I think monx has some removed, but cant see what)

Apk's are program files so if you delete them they don't work. There's a thread somewhere about which system files you can delete safely http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46176101
You can uninstall themes etc normally through the app manager.
It's not like windows where you get an install file that you can delete afterwards.

If you are rooted then just go into /system/apps and delete the ones you want.
Then head to /data and delete the core apps you don't want. Its easy.
Just make sure you know what you're deleting. Lord made a list of ones that can be deleted and those that require other lib files so shouldn't be deleted.
okey dokey. thanks
