Alternative WhatsApp clients? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks!
I wonder if there are any alternative clients for WhatsApp that care a bit more about privacy or if there is a way to prevent the official client from uploading all your contacts rto their servers?

[offtopic] use telegram [/offtopic]

Yeah, looks nice, but I need something that's compatible with WhatsApp because all my friends are on WA and won't switch to another messenger.
So do I get that right, there are no alternatives to the official client??

Your right as long as you use WA then you are stuck.

OK, thx anyway folks!

Hotmail messaging not working with GPS?

Hi Guys,
First I'd like to say that this is my first post. I only found this site after seeing an article in Engadget and WOW! I've loaded the new DCD ROM with the upgraded radio and Its quadrupled the usefulness of my P4000 (titan). I use it to track my millage with work and all! Amazing that this feature was hidden!
I would like to ask if anyone is having trouble accessing their hotmail account via the inbuilt messaging app. I've added my Yahoo mail no prob but when i try to add my hotmail account it just gives me a link to open IE to windows live.
If this feature was removed from the rom for some reason, then so be it. If this is a repeat of another post than I apologize for it but if someone knows how to fix it up please let me know.
Thanks
Chris

just curious, what do you use to track your mileage?
You must use Windows Live to access your hotmail account. It has nothing to do with GPS.
Hotmail doesnt support pop3 (unless you are a paying customer?)
I'm just using GPS tunner. I just plug in the car charger, turn it on and at the end of the day i can see where i went how many km's i drove.
Chris
LOL, I had no idea what you were talking about until i went back and read the O.P. for the Rom... I missed the fact that it was stated in plain english right on the post... Working great now! Thanks

[VOTE] Facebook software with iPhone's GUI and BlackBerry's feature.

You know moTweets right?
The super cheap Twitter client (only US$3.99) that Panoramic Software developed.
It has a very nice GUI like iPhone, got complete and perfectly-working feature as well.
And this morning I asked Panoramic to develop Facebook application as well, since there is no single good/decent Facebook application for WinMo yet.
Even the M$' Facebook app is suck and not working right. It even can't fetch the stream by itself, need manual refresh.
The other simply used the cropped version (mobile version) of NewsFeed, not the complete one like BlackBerry's.
I asked them to make Facebook application for WinMo with nice GUI like moTweets and the functionality like Facebook for BlackBerry.
And here's their answer to my idea (we had conversation via Twitter) @PanoramicSoft: "We will definitely consider creating a Facebook app for WinMo. Thanks."
So, just tweet them and give them a vote.
They're surveying whether they need to develop this app or not.
Don't vote here, just send a tweet to @PanoramicSoft or email them at [email protected].
I'm not Panoramic's affiliate. I'm just the satisfied customer that use their moTweets application. And I want to share the idea here so if you all want a good/decent Facebook app, this is the solution.
Or, as I put in the other thread where you mentioned this, use the Microsoft developed Facebook client.

Yup, but that program is a dead program, no further development (stuck in 1.0.0.7p for long time), very slow, can't even do simple basic task (live news feed like the Blackberry's), can't fetch notification, and so many more bugs that rendering it useless...
Up you go! Be the first post in Dev&Hack...
yeah. MS has a crappy client for facebook. half the time I dont get my messages or even look at my profile.
What is it with microsoft. I thought thay paid a **** load for facebook and thay can't make a good app. Saw the new one on my mates I-phone the other day and it was cool.So I'm up for this.
Yeah, that's why, I suggest Panoramic Soft to make one with great interface like moTweets.
They're taking votes now, so just drop an email to [email protected] or tweet them via twitter: @PanoramicSoft
Coz I'm not Panoramic's people. I'm just their satisfied customer. ^^
If the vote is sufficient, They'll start developing the app for Facebook.
Up! Up! Up! Make this post to the first page. Let peoples know about this..
bump/.......
sent an email..
Yupz... Just need a vote to make them start developing the Facebook apps.
And I think peoples in XDA-Devs not really interested in Facebook.
No response from XDA-Devs peoples.. Only one or two peoples interested...

Yup, please help me forwarding this. I'm currently sending an email to all my Facebook friends, Twitter followers, and all of the forum I'm currently in.
Thanks for the support.. Hope that we can get a decent Facebook apps.
Im in the same boat as you all guys. WM needs a good Facebook apps. The one from MS sucks!
Not only sucks, the one from MS isn't counted as an app at all for me.. I even uninstall it after first use.. It even lack basic auto-refresh feature, not to mention about live-feed... I think that MS' programmers can't even make live-feed feature for Facebook app... Or maybe they don't know how to utilize Facebook's API..
you know ever since I started using Mini5 i kinda fell off the boat as far as using facebook goes. My facebook is sync'd to my yahoo account which I'm using push for. My favorites(which opera mini has that looks like google chrome) has iphone facebook account page saved which has a very slick and usable UI. So its really just one push of the button from the internet. I dunno...if I were to want anything it would be more like the X1's facebook panel which is really nice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAtiCEE3hDQ and I actually liked it back when i was running the panels on my HD.
No need to copy innovation when you can port it.
you could go to x.facebook.com in opera mobile, works perfectly on my touch pro, but i agree, an app would be nice, especially if its like the xperia one, i sent a request to them.

[Q] Plume and Proxlet

So, I've used like every twitter app out there, went back to them all many times, and I'm still in love with Plume. The problem is, it doesn't support other networks using a custom api url. So, I've been forced to use ubersocial to solve this issue.
I use proxlet to block out some of my twitter users that I don't want to see all the time, as well as specific apps, so I really need proxlet, or at least a way to block those same people/apps on plume. Now, I know plume comes with a management tool to do this, but the problem is, it would be an extreme pain in the butt to manually add one person at a time into plume, as I have many listed in my proxlet ignore list.
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to mass import blocked contacts into Plume. I know it has the import/export feature, but it has to be in the plume format already. Just curious to know if anyone could tell me an easy way to do this, just to keep them both synced up pretty well. Thanks!

[Q] Anyone developing a Gmail app?

Thinking about switching to a Lumia 920, however Gmail support is very important to me. It really is too much hassle to change to outlook - I've looked into it and it won;t happen.
Question: will WP8 allow developers to come up with alternative mail clients for Gmail, like Sparrow for iOS? If so, is anyone developing such an app?
What would you get from a GMAIL app that you wouldn't get from setting it up in the email settings?

Intuitive.......ok I can see all my folders and emails..... Are we talking about gtalk being in the app or something. As far as email goes it works fine for my 2 Gmail accounts.
OK let me clarify. I am talking about the changes Gmail is going to make with activesync. I would like to use an app on WP8 that handles Gmail in a way as Gmail is intended to be used including multiple labels. An example of such an app, however this one is on iOS, is Sparrow. Does anyone know of a similar app that's being developed for WP8?
PS: thanks for the tutorial for moving to outlook.com, it seems easier than I thought.

hey, no offense, but i think you're missing the point. Everyone is a individual and has some wishes how to handle things. if someone aks for something he would like to have, it's his own decision how to have it. so it's rather useless to tell him not to have it the way he would like to have it because the way YOU have it works.
and! in case of googlemail. google ****ed up active sync on purpose, so if you buy a new windows phone you have to use imap or pop. i think giving google a kick in the a.. by moving on is a good idea. they have become too strong. atm i'm testing if outlook.com is able to replace googlemail and while outlook.com is working prettyx nice on Android, maybe i will move on. there's nothing missing on Lumia except the Lable "google" everything they made is replaceable.

sorry, but atm i don't know an app like this and google btw. clarified that there's no need for them to build googleapps for Windws phone
ok
I understand user individuality and I understand your point of view. His statement after mine would have made a better response. I am well aware of the google activesync fiasco, and Outlook.com is great my kids use it. Now I thought that they wouldn't support if for people were free customers....That is sad indeed and I will then be forced to either jump ship or get email every 5mins-2hrs either way I will have to deal with it. Regardless I hope you find what you are looking for and I can vouch for the outlook.com or gmail (with activesync).

[Q] Most secure instant messenger?

Hello,
I am looking for a WhatsApp alternative and thanks to the NSA scandal, there are many "secure" IM apps like Telegram, ChatSecure etc. popping up. Now I would like to know what is the best/most secure of them. Looking forward to your answer
Regards,
Random
chatsecure + orbot maybe?
read about Tor in general (deep web and all)
cant post links since im new, sorry 'bout that
OK, I tried ChatSecure, but I don't like the UI. What I need is an app that looks like WhatsApp (incl. Emojis) and is as secure as ChatSecure
I heard that Telegram isn't quite as secure, but is it sufficient if you combine end-to-end encryption with self-destructing messages?
I am making a similar research trying to find a really secure messenger for personal communication but unfortunately, most of the messengers store the data on their servers which automatically makes them insecure.
Wickr instant messenger
Have you heard about Wickr? Do you have any experience with it? Non of my friends use it but I read that it is "the most trusted messenger in the world" .
P2P Messenger
Do you know any peer-to-peer messenger?
