Updating from VRUAME7 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

This may be an extremely stupid question but I've been browsing around and can't seem to find an answer...I currently have VRUAME7 build, and seems as most ROMs have stopped pushing updates for the safestrap / this build.
I'm having some issues on my ROM, screen locks and won't wake up. So I figured, will have to update my version to one of the supported.
Is the only way to do this to go back to stock ROM, unroot, download and then root again? Or is there any sort of tutorial for this out there? I've searched all over and haven't been able to find out anything about this.

Well the easiest way to do that would be to use the no wipe Odin tar of me7 then take the otas up through mj7 or mk2. Once your on one of those builds you can use Safe Root to gain root again and then install SafeStrap 3.7x.
I'll see if I can find the links for you...

Again... I'd just use the me7 no wipe to get you to the point where your s4 will accept an OTA. Then allow your phone to take those updates ...there is 3 otas you'd take to get to the latest mk2. Then you can root.. install SafeStrap and your good.
Your phone MAY be able to take OTA right now if u uninstalled SafeStrap...unrooted ...put any bloat you may have removed back on.. and removed xposed. But its easier to just use the method I said earlier if u ask me

Also look here for videos on how to do things if you needed. I assume you know that you cannot have a custom recovery that allows for aosp ROMs like CyanogenMod. Only SafeStrap.

Just root your install so you don't need to reflash everything. It's been covered here, there's a specific version of SuperUser you need to install. I don't remember it off the top of my head but a search should turn it up.

I downloaded that Su. So all I have to do is to boot into recovery and flash the New Su binary from the root of my sd?

i dont understand how to install the recovery image. can some one explain

Rooting = Clockwork Mod??

I have a rooted Incredible and am upgrading to a Razr. It's been so long since I've rooted that I don't remember if doing so automatically installs CWM??
I want to be able to unroot to get the ICS update but not have CWM, just the default boot/recovery options.
Is this possible or have i completely forgotten rooting techniques?

Plus because we are locked we don't actually replace the recovery with CWM so there is no issues with that.
You dont need to unroot because CWM doesnt yet overite stock recovery

There is a odin flashable for your build in android development. That will get you back up and running.

I can link you to the Odin but not sure if there is a solid root for it yet once you Odin to MJ7. I seen they are close but best way is to try and maintain root during update.

This lists MDK, ME7, and MI1. Be mindful that root has not officially been achieved yet for MJ7 (4.3), so if you want root, stick on whatever you were coming from. Also, do not attempt to downgrade- if you tried upgrading from MI1 to MJ7, flash the MI1.
Additional details on how to do this via ODIN are in the link provided. Hope this helps.

I've been trying to d/l it from Hotfile since I created this thread but since I don't have a premium account, the d/l is taking for damn ever. I'll flash once I get it and let you know...my Knox is currently 0x1 but I don't have high hopes this Odin will matter. I'll let you know.
I keep getting the download stopped.

Damn! Well, maybe we'll get lucky, like the sprint s4 section and get a bootloader with Knox removed or eventually find a way to reset it.

http://omegadroid.co/wanted-knox-void-warranty-0x1/ Just googled something about Knox. Looks like even custom bootloaders that have Knox removed will be locked out from further updates. Even supposedly a JTAG won't reset it. My suggestion to those of you who are Knox 0x0, stay that way. Don't install custom recovery.

If this is completely bone stock factory firmware flashed through Odin then I don't know why Knox wouldn't reset. Really sucks if it doesn't but at least us rooted folks can get the full update and get rid of the call audio issue. I threatened Sprint with a Class Action lawsuit for the firmware blocking because as paying customers we are free to do whatever we want with our phones even if it voids a warranty. But when there is a software issue out of the box that they need to correct then everyone should be entitled to that.
According to the article, and the link to chainfire's comments, once the counter is tripped, it cannot be reset. I saw there's over a $1100 bounty to be able to reset the counter, but no luck yet.
Anyone willing to host a mirror for this? Those official mirrors are slow as hell. Might just Odin back to stock and take the update that way, probably faster.
I'd do a torrent but my home connection breaks down all the time.

Very new to root on vzw s4 mdk w/ twrp

I recently bought my rooted s4 mdk, came with Hyperdrive v10.2 rom. I done some tweaking from within the rom: font, center clock, icon changer ect.. . I've done a little modification such as getting dark dialer & sms, dark horse inverted g: mail, store, music. I did try flashing modem (to nc2 only to have slight heart attack seeing baseband not on mdk) then flash back to mdk. Only after reading thru the whole thread(vzw s4 forums) and flashing the zips that other Mdk users verified working.
I've read how lucky I am to be on mdk with twrp. Also seen post where people mentioning bricking there mdk, but didn't say how they did it.
I want to learn about what I can and can't do.
Like:
is there other compatible roms from other device makers : htc, moto that work on the s4 ? Understanding kernels , how to remove the ringtones from in the system (I tried delete -says deleted but it doesn't . General system knowledge. I guess in other words an Experienced person to take me under there wing and help guide me .
So coming from a unrooted thunderbolt (I would like to root the TB cuz I use it for home phone using viop app) I'm really liking being rooted with the no ads, wifi hotspot ect... and having the unlimited data plan I had to buy out of contract to upgrade. I'm glad I did some reading here to make sure I got unlocked bootloader model so it took me a few times and weeks to get winning bid. Which is okay but yesterday I came across swappa in forum rules and think my next phone shall come from there .

Well a couple tips... Grab Flashify from play store and update your TWRP. There's an easy option to update your recovery and it'll flash it for you.
As far as everything else...
Just look for Roms that are specifically for Jfltevzw or JFLTE.
Kernels will be the same.
You can look in our Verizon Android Development and Original development. Also you can look in other carriers forums like TMobile or Sprint for Roms.
Aosp Roms give you more freedom when looking in other carriers threads since they are all mostly unified now and under the name JFLTE.
Tw Roms you may need compatibility packs if your flashing ones from other carriers or the i9505 S4.
