Was flashing a rom on ss 3.65 when screen went black and device bricked, now i can boot only to the picture of the sick android and PC only sees it as an unreconizable usb device, tried reinstalling motorolas drive to no avail. Until pc can see it properly i cant go to RSD and reflash. Any sugestions?
Thanks all
Did you do a nandroid backup when you first rooted and added safestrap? Just hold down pretty Ten seconds till reboot and restore...unless you try till flash on safe side...I ran into same and rsd...my computer wouldn't read either but I reopen loaded driver from Moto site, then kept plugging unplugging sub till it read....good luck

Last time I had this, I booted into fastboot and left it 1 hour on charger, this helped me to get rsd working working, otherwise only a factory cable
Tapped from my RazR
Turn off device and put on charger....should charge then..only way I could get mine to charge when I had same problems...

hi,
i'm not sure if this is the right place(or maybe in android dev forum), so let me know if you know a better place to put this thread.
i have a strange problem with my phone:
1. after charging battery stays at 100% all the time, even after a day, only after a reboot it gets fixed.
2. when powering off the phone and connecting to USB, the phone showed green battery icon, now it doesn't it just start to boot.
3. usb is not recognized by the computer anymore.
i cannot use the usual combo to get into recovery, i've managed by pulling out the battery(the download mode procedure) to get into recovery ?!
just noticed another strange thing, in battery status i see unplugged for 0 seconds, even though the phone is unplugged for an hour or so.
i've used nero V3, and thought maybe putting new rom will help.
so i've installed M3 flagship.
but still problems 2 and 3 remains(problem 1 i didn't check yet since i don't have
the accurate battery mod)
thanks for the help.

Those are weird problems. I would just start all over and odin back to stock. Then flash whatever rom you want. Don't forget to check the repartition box in odin

Sounds like it could be an issue with the micro USB port on the phone.
Just to make sure it's not a software issue try flashing back to stock JFD using Odin and see if it continues to happen.
can't odin back as my computer is saying that "the device is not recognized" and the phone still shows full instead of not charging when i disconnect it from the computer.

So while the phone is unplugged and stays unplugged if you pull the battery then put it back in does the battery charging screen still come up on its own even when unplugged?

yes,
while when the phone is plugged in and im pulling the usb out, it still shows that it's charging. only after boot it get fixed.
Plug usb to computer. Pull the battery. Hold both up and down volume buttons together. Plug usb to phone. Then put battery back in. See if that can get you into download mode

shutdown phone.
pulled battery.
connected to usb.
pressed vol up+down
put battery back while holding the volume keys.
i got the vibrant screen and it booted as usual(got the same error in windows after a few seconds)

if you got the vibrant screen, that's not bad. What error in windows? not recognizing usb? the usb not recognize...does your pc have antivirus with latest def? what os version were you running on phone? have you made any changes to your pc lately like install anything? if not, have you try cold start your computer?
can you get into download mode?
try this [while power off or pull battery, put it back] hold down both volume + and -, now hook in usb cable, it will power itself up and put it into download mode.

i get in windows the "usb no recognized error" i see in device manager "unknown device"
i did reinstall the samsung drivers on my windows 7 x64.
i've also connected it to a vista 32bit with the same error, and my friend's windows 7 x64(he has i9000) and didn't get any alert at all from windows ?!
i've tried with:
nero V3
flagship V3
bionix-v
one more thing is, when looking in SGS tools on battery status i see the voltage/ADC/VF ADC values change all the time but the value of level stays at 100%
update: now i see in SGS tools that the battery went down 80% so this part works fine.

ive got the same problem. Flashing back to stock wont work.. For me it seems hardware related. Ive heard from other forums thats its corrosion in the usb port itself. Im gonna try cleaning it even though im sure thats not gonna fix it. On my phone my battery indicator will stay at 100% untill its been used for about 50% of battery then it will start reading correctly. Of course when you plug it in the charging indicator stays on untill its 100% even if the usb is not plugged in. I flashed back to stock using odin. as long as you have a usb connected notification load up odin with everything plugged in hold pwr+vol up+down untill your phone turns OFF then let go of just the power button you should see the robot digging. Then you can do whatever you want with odin, which at this point of my frustration isnt s*&$.... I really think that its just a crappy usb port design.... Let me know if you find something out.
OK guys, finally I have fixed that issue. Problem is with micro usb(corrosion). You just need take battery out, and clean micro usb port with alcohol and tooth brush very good. That's all what you need to do.

Would love to help you. Would also love to know which version of glitch/miui and what you've already done to try and troubleshoot.
We're not mind-readers here.
So when you pull battery and hold volume down, the phone won't go into download mode?

Remove the battery and then re install it but don't power up, plug in your charger and let it sit...does anything happen?
Idk why but a while back I had an issue like this...I was running cm7 and went to enter recovery via power button menu like you're supposed to, and got a boot loop and no matter what I did that's all it would do, no download mode, no Odin, no recovery..even tried three finger booting to recovery which your not suppressed to, but I remember in my ways of trying to trick it into download mode I found if I pulled the battery and then put it back in and plug it into the wall charger it would try to turn back on (something that happens on cm7, but i'm not sure if this happens on miui) but for some reason after doing that it still boot looped but when I tried entering download mode after that it worked! Was able to Odin back to stock and flash back to cm7..same build I was on before and never had the problem again our figured or how it even happened or why.

how are you supposed to reinstall tho i have like no menus
You could try what I said, even if you still get a boot loop, then pull the battery and hold down volume while plugging into PC and see if you can get download mode..if you still can get into it you may have to get a USB download jig..just google it, they're a couple bucks or you can make them..if it's your last resort

Similar to what the previous post says, take the battery out, plug wall charger in outlet, hold volume down then plug into your phone. If download mode comes up, pull the USB cable out of the wall plug and plug it into your computer. If it doesn't work, try the program Heimdall.

I was flashing from MIUI 1.9 to MIUI ICS in CWM and all seemed well until upon boot it hung on the MIUI bootup screen. After waiting about 15 minutes I figured I would simply ODIN back to stock and try again as I normally do when I have a problem flashing. In ODIN however I was unable to make it past the boot.inf stage of the flashing. Stupidly I unplugged the usb cable mid flash and tried again, and again same result, it would hang at boot.inf. After trying a couple different stock ODIN files the phone will not turn on at all. Even if I pull the battery and connect the phone to the pc I cannot boot into download mode. When I connect to the wall charger the battery screen does not come on either.
Strangely if I press the power button on the phone with the phone connected to the pc, windows will make the sound of a usb device being connected, however, if I release the power button it makes the sound of a usb device being disconnected. ODIN does not seem to be recognizing my phone anymore since I haven't been able to boot into download mode.
I've bought a usb jib hoping this would solve the problem but it hasn't seemed to work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Please someone help me get my phone up and running again. I've flashed numerous roms before and had trouble but nothing as serious as this.

Thanks for that. I went through his guide but unfortunately I think my problem is a little more serious. My phone will not turn on at all. I cannot boot into CWM, download mode or boot normally. The screen just remains black. It doesn't show up as a recognized device in windows but when I connect the usb cable it makes a sound of it being connected.
If any has any ideas on things I could try I would be really grateful. I bought my phone out of contract and can't really afford to buy a new one right now.

Can you "3 finger" into recovery ?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app
No, when I try to use the 3 buttons to boot into recovery the screen stays black.
Another strange thing it's doing is when I connect the phone to my Mac with the SD card in the phone the Mac will continuously popup a window that asks whether I want to connect the usb device to the Mac or my virtual machine. It flashes so fast I'm unable to click either option. If I connect the phone without the SD card in this menu never comes up but I'm still unable to boot into download mode.
Hmm....I've never heard this before...have you tried plugging phone charger in ( wall outlet ) and let it charge 8 full hours

I charged it from the wall charger overnight still no luck. Yeah, I bought it a year and a half ago used from ebay. I think it's really strange too. I've had plenty of hiccups flashing roms before but it's never been something ODIN couldn't fix and I'd at least be able to get into download mode.
I think you are going to have to use UnbrickableMod.
Thanks MM. I bit the bullet and bought a used Galaxy S II. I may still try that unbrickable mod so I can give my Fassy to my mom who's overdue for a smartphone. I've never used a soldering iron though and not too certain how successful I'll be.

Have you tried the wall plug trick?
I had been running a Fascinate rom on a Showcase for almost a year & the same thing happened to me. Initially, the battery had run completely down and after full charge, I had nothing but bootloops. At first I could connect via odin, but could not complete flash.
After messing with it & yanking out the cable as you did, I had same issue, blank screen, pc would beep but that was it, pc/odin would not recognize or show the comm port. I would get unknown device.
Ultimately, I successfully repartitioned & odined a stock Fascinate Froyo EB01 rom by doing several things -- not sure which worked, but perhaps might work for you rather than soldering
First, I fully charged an oem battery using a spare battery charger (not in the fassy)
After charge, I put the batt in the fasc & plugged the fasc in to the wall charger while holding down the volume button & got the download mode to show up.
I left batt in when I unplugged from wall & the download mode stuck.
Odin still didnt recognize on my laptop, so I tried 3 other machines till I Odin finally saw the fascinate, at which point I odined Froyo with .pit & repartitioning as my starting point, then clockworked & rooted etc. I think I left battery in during the flash, then reflashed later in download mode with battery out.
I was also successful using heimdall a few times, when another pc wasn't available & odin wasn't playing nice. Was very odd, as 2 of those laptops ALWAYS worked fine with odin & the fascinated showcase before. Now they still won't recognize, but I can easily odin if I try diff computers --- some windows 7 some xp & some vista.

I had the same issue. I think it had to do with the battery being too low. I think that ODIN could have a check in place to allow only to flash if the battery is not clos to low in case things go wrong. I had a second fully charged battery and when i read the above post, i changed the battery across and it set it to download and ODIN eventually detected it. Thanks for the help guys.
I have a similar problem, I was on PA JB rom 2.18, and I decided to flash latest devil kernel [1.5.2? or something like that]
so then it would just boot into devil recovery. and that's all. Tried to flash pa rom over it [to get stock recovery back] but it failed. also it had lots of errors about mounting.
So I did advanced restore, and chose to restore boot from other JB backup. This just made it worse, bootlooping into an android recovery with a "!" triangle, then immediately rebooting, over and over again..
So I put into download mode, and heimdall a boot.img extracted from the JB rom [paranoid android], and it still didn't work right.
So then I heimdall'ed the atlas.2.2.pit, thinking the partition was screwed. Then I was booted into cwm 6.x! So I thought I was out of the woods, and wiped, then flashed PA 2.18 jb rom, and then rebooted.. and then I had no samsung logo bootloop. I could tell cuz it was dark, and I could see the backlight coming on and off. on, off... on... off... endlessly.
I tried download mode, and it didn't work. That's when I got scared.. I tried it again, nothing. just the black [very dim black, because of super amoled technology] screen, coming on and off..
So I finally tried taking the battery out, and then it went into download mode!
But I still cannot figure out why it will not let me flash any rom. I'm gonna have to boot into windows and odin back to EH03.
Good thing I have a 3-4 day old backup.
So, do not use devil kernel unless you want a softbrick.

I think the problem is you used the wrong Devil... the latest is 1.6.1 and the older ones will not work with the new partition layout. Get it from http://rootaxbox.no-ip.org/derteufel/
Here is some FYI for you guys. If you are using a pc with a USB 2.0 or higher then it provides the power to go into download mode for Odin. That's why people say to remove the battery and then plug in the USB cable and hold the volume and power to go into download mode for odin. IF you are using a desktop then it's best to use one of the hardwired usb ports on the back of your pc, if it's a laptop then they are all hardwired to the motherboard. USB 2.0 and up all provide power through the usb port, therefore if you leave the battery in while Odin'ing it may not be a good outcome, this is just a suggestion.

It's probably just a precaution so you don't accidentally reboot the phone while flashing or something like that. Every guide I have read says to pull battery before using Odin so I do... and I haven't had any problems. I think it'll probably work fine with the battery in, but why bother taking the risk?

how would the battery cause the phone to reboot?
I have never Odin'd without the battery. And I never had any problems
Hi,
I'm new to rooting and modifying and I'm sure I really screwed things up. My main issue is that my Razr is stuck in a bootloop and when I go to use Safestrap to recover it, the utility won't work. I'll try and detail everything I did that led up to this.
Yesterday, I rooted my stock ICS Verizon Razr xt912 using pedrotorresfilho's method. It worked without a hitch. I installed ROM Manager and then Safestrap 2.01. I used Safestrap to install CWM Touch Only Recovery. Part of the directions had me use the SuperSU to set Safestrap to denied after all was said and done. Safestrap created a restore file which I placed in my external sd. After that everything worked like it was supposed to.
Today, I decided to flash a custom ROM, but first I wanted to update to the latest version of Safestrap. I couldn't access it to uninstall the previous version because I had set it to denied. I re-granted its permission. Before I went to uninstall it I decided to go all the way back to stock thinking I probably screwed things up. I never set it back to denied. I rebooted my phone and it went into the startup screen for Safestrap. I hit the menu key, the screen went black as if it was going into the main menu and instead it starts to boot and gets stuck in a bootloop. Every time I hit volume down + power button and reboot the phone it keeps on doing this. I cannot get Safestrap to work so I can recover my phone.
I tried to use the default recovery but that won't work either. Hitting the right combination of buttons only brings me back to the Safestrap menu. I have been looking all over the forums here and elsewhere and nothing is helping. The utilities I have seen won't work for me. I don't care if I have to revert back to factory settings.
I'm sure other people will be more help, but I'll throw something out there. Hold volume down and power until it shuts off then immediately hold both volume and power. It should bout into the bootloader. Select AP fastboot and use mats utility to restore to factory.
Also, don't kill the battery if this doesn't work wake fire me knowable help.

Thanks for the response. I was finally able to get into the bootloader using the instructions you gave me and selected the AP fastboot. Unfortunately, the power button + volume key method wouldn't work and now the battery is dead. I have since plugged it in but now it won't charge and the utility says the battery is too low to run it. Whenever I pull the cable out it gives me the battery symbol with a question mark inside. I'll leave it plugged in over night and hopefully it gives me something.

I saw this method earlier and was hoping I didn't have to go this route. But, it looks like this is my only option short of calling customer service, bs'ing them on why my phone is acting up, and hopefully not get charged full price for a replacement.
Thank you for the help. Next time I'm going to take the time and read up on everything I need to know before I start modifying.
No problem, let me know how it turns out

Update:
I had tried to make my own Motorola Factory Cable but my skills with soldering and such are sub-par so I decided to order a pre-made cable from a Chinese company on Ebay. After a month I finally got the cable today and it works like it should. After going through the steps my Razr boots into AP Fastboot mode. It tells me the battery is okay and is ready for programming. I downloaded the ICS fastboot file and RSD Lite 5.7. When I go through the steps with RSD it loads the files but it won't recognize my device. I repeatedly hit the buttons but nothing shows up. I re-installed it but the same problems persists. If I understood the directions correctly I need the Motorola Device Manager in order to get the USB drivers on a pc (using a friends comp, don't have one of my own atm). I installed it from Motorola's page but when I plug in my Razr nothing pops up. I've tried to find the drivers online but all the links I have found direct me back to the Motorola page. Is there a way to get the drivers without connecting my phone to a computer?
Did I follow the directions right? Is there something I am completely missing?
For a recap. I fubar'd my Razr, it won't charge that is why I needed the "factory cable", battery is okay, but when I connect with either this cable or a normal micro-usb cable the comp won't even see that it is there.
Edit: I was finally able to download the USB drivers from Matt's Razr Utility 1.7 and then RSD was able to recognize my phone. I was able to flash ICS back onto the phone and now I have a fully functioning RAZR. Curious though, I was made to understand that when I flashed the OS that everything would be erased and I would start over. When my phone turned on it brought me back to the state I had it before it bricked. It was still rooted.
I literally tried everything with this phone. Was able to root, went to install siyah kernel from zip and now I get the samsung logo. I can boot into CWM recovery, but none of the functions work--just hangs on the hat. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks. I just want to flash it to stock and sell it on ebay. Loved this damn phone. I just upgraded to the S3.

Okay. I've read all your posts. You have not provided any information that would be useful to troubleshoot your issue. However, I can make a few guesses that could possibly help, and then you need to give us some details so we can help further.
1) You don't say if the phone is stock and what version of stock was on it, or whether you have custom firmware. I'm assuming you have stock, then rooted and installed the wrong version of Siyah, or perhaps a version for Siyah not made for the I777. As far as not being able to use the functions when you boot into CWM, it is probably because the select key is the home button, and not the power button.
2) You can't flash back to stock using CWM. I'm not aware of any zip with straight stock. You must use Odin to flash stock. Since you are having connection problems using Odin, I am guessing that you either did not follow the correct sequence, or that you did not install the correct USB driver on your Windows pc. Another possibility is that you have a bad usb cable or connection.
3) If you spent a month searching on the xda forum for this phone, you would have found any number of posts by myself that detail all the answers to all the questions you have posed so far. I've posted these things several dozens of times.
Please let us know if any of the above helps you. Please search these forums for issues connecting to Odin. If you are unable to find any answers that way, please post back here with more detailed information.
I have an issue with my S2 I777.
When it last booted it was on cyanogenmod 9 with siyah v4.3.3 and is a good setup. My problem is i let it die/dead battery and didn't bother to plug it in for about 4 days or so.now when i try turning it on with any button combo i get nothing.when i plug it in the battery icon just flashes and not even my jig will get it into download mode to use odin

enter download mode WITHOUT a battery in the phone
follow these steps:
-remove the battery from the phone
-hold down vol+ & vol- & power, then plug in the usb cable
-continue holding the buttons until the phone shows the download mode prompt
-put the battery into the phone (while the phone is at the download prompt)
happy flashing

K that part worked as far as getting into download mode so the phone is salvageable. However as soon as i put the battery in wile plugged in and in download mode it just shuts down.wile still plugged in i repeat the button combo and it does flash in red that the battery is to low .before posting in here it had been plugged in for one day and all last night. I was getting excellent battery life before this issue started .have tried multiple charger cords

I have heard with these devices that they behave poorly when the battery is allowed to die completely, citing that the phone needs power to start/maintain the charging circuit (it sounds silly, I agree). One common suggestion is to purchase an external charger, or go to a local mobile store and ask them to put the battery on a charger for a few minutes, or to simply purchase another battery.
Hopefully one of our peers can chime-in to verify this, or provide other options.
