i have been searching the forums for the last couple of days and i am just getting more and more confused about rooting my phone??
i understand what i have to do but im just not to sure on the insecure/secure kernel i need. i read i need the closes't one and in another place it says it don't matter which one i need i would just like someone to point me in the right direction please before i fook me phone here are the specs if someone could help me??
phone is locked to t-mob and using virgin sim but do won't to unlock it
im from uk. north east if that helps???

Found that you can through ROM Manager. However, it doesn't show my phone's model number. It shows the Epic 4G Touch, which is supposedly similar. Any idea if that will work?

Find anything that would work yet? I'm having the same issue with another generic carrier. Can't get a recovery for the phone yet. Its great to have super user but if I cant get into recovery what's the point! Does anybody have any thoughts on this yet? Can't seem to find an answer anywhere! There has to be other generic CDMA rooters out there! Come on guys!
You're not getting any helpful answers because this is not the RCH-R760 forum. This is the I9100 forum which is different hardware to your device.

i also have Alltel SCH-R760 Samsung Galaxy S II CDMA .. i want to root, but not sure, because i have read your post and , i also have not seen any help forums about my phone model .. Did you find out a solution to the issues your are having with recovery ?? please respond

I have a c spire sch-r760 generic and I have jelly bean and I hate it i'm looking for the stock fi24 kernel so I can go back to gingerbread any and all help with this matter would be greatly appreciated

Not to dig up an old thread, but I'm still having this same exact issue. I have a US Cellular Galaxy S2 - sch-r760 device that is fully rooted. However I cannot for the life of me figure out how to successfully installed ClockworkMod! I have Rom Manager on the device and I have flashed cmw that way ('galaxys2' option.) But when I try to boot into recovery there is no option to take a backup and even trying to load a custom rom via the GUI on the device, it appears it attempts to boot up and install - but then it immediately restarts and loads the Stock Rom.
I have an update.zip in the root directory. Also I've been having intermittent problems with the Google Play Store/Services... I have to constantly wipe the data from those apps and remove my account and sometimes even factory reset my device in order to get a wifi connection. I'm not sure if this is related to the issues I'm having, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I've changed and even deleted the hosts file as some people have suggested, which works temporarily, but after awhile the date on my phone gets out of wack and the Play Store and even internet connections seem to go in and out.

Don't take this wrong but what you did wrong was buy a knock off clone device. There is almost no help here for them. You will need to go to Chinese forums for them.

I would check out gizbeat and look for the phone. Or you have to constantly google around the type of phone and rom.

mate first of all use vroot to root it does it in about 1min then use cwm recovery 10 and you can then use any rom as long as you get it for the mtk ver of phone not the i8190 ok ive got 3 chenese models and ive rooted all them htc with wildchild s4 with pascman and s3 with carbon so you can infact get lots help off ppl who know about the phone model

Try this for root. If it works just use goo manager to install twrp recovery.

I really doubt that you have searched much considering you didn't find any information to help you root.
Root is a very popular phenomenon and it's question has been covered probably thousands of times.
How do you know about Odin? Didn't you check if there was a root method explained with Odin?
No one here is going to give an explaination to this, so i suggest you start searching and reading.

Yes it is important to root before you flash/install a custom ROM
If you want to flash a ROM you can go to the recovery --> Install .zip from sd card--> select your ROM--> Install!!
