[Q] Need help with my kernel and boot issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I have been trying to fix my phone (SGS2 I9100), what happened exactly all the sudden the whatsapp app crashed and the phone needed to be restarted so i did since then the phone is stuck at samsung logo, i flashed a new kernel siyahv6.0.1.2 but still wont boot AND yellow triangle showed like it getting worth.
I can access the recovery (CWM-BASED RECOVERY V6.0.1.2-SIYAH) and download mode, its JB 4.0 or 4.1 not sure .
What should I do now to safe my phone, or is there a way to recover my data ??
appreciation to everyone

I would flash Sammy stock 4.1.2 firmware with Odin to get the phone running first. Data can be retrieved may not be all but yes it can be done. If you're on 4.0.4 don't factory reset you're phone or format data.

thanks for the quick reply, can I retrieve my data before I flash the firmware?from where can I get the firmware?

I could not find stock firmware so I flashed cyanogenmod and still cant boot my device, what should I do now ?

Sammobile.com is the place to go for stock Sammy firmware mate. Flash that through Odin and once it's booted if you have boot loop factory reset but only if you flash 4.1.2 or 4.0.3 but never factory reset on 4.0.4 . As for the data you want..yes get that before you flash stock. Simple google search will tell you what you need to do for that. Few good guides on xda on how to do that.

wel u have a soft brick ma8 dont panic just dwnl a odin flashable stock GB rom and install the same
after that search the forum under samsung gs2 how 2 root ur phone with stock gb fallow the instructions and root ur phone
then select the ics rom like lightening rom and flash thru odin
every thing will be fine
Reading the post, seems like OP did flash a stock file (although ICS, not GB).
2 dumb questions just to confirm. You have the i9100? not the i9100G? Also have you waited a certain amount of time after you flashed those roms? It can take up to a couple minutes for it to first boot.
If above are fine, (you have i9100, and you waited a long time and it was still stuck on i9100 screen)

Factory reset is not required after flashing a rom .
You load rom via Odin it finishes install and then reboots itself .
You load rom via CWM and it goes to reboot screen yes and phone reboots .
As said a stock gb rom flashed via Odin preferably after a format of system data and cache should be your first step .
jje
i did that.

Nooooooooooooo wait wait wait, don't ever touch pit files and repatition
i would try it but i hope it won't make your problems worse ...

ok then not ...
Looks like you have siyah rc6. Make sure it's not from the 21st, iirc.
Don't factory reset just to be safe.. Restore your nandroid if possible and change to a later version.
Hope all goes well

yup i had siyah 3.1rc6 on my phone.
i tried to restore my nandroid backup but there is no effect on my problem.
how to know weather emmc is fine or currupted?
Try to mount it in CWM and connect it in linux computer and run fsck to check the eMMC. Windows chkdsk is no good.
And please try to remember, did you do this step: flash bad siyah rc6 then wipe/factory reset and get stuck?
if not, then the problem is different from those who flash bad rc6 (which is removed now and siyah is safe)
any thing is not working.
in every thread its written that if my phone goes in download mode and recovery mode then its soft bricked but then how can i unbrick my phone?
or is there any hardware problem?
i can mount and unmount every thing in recovery mode
i can format every thing but only user data cannot be formated, when ever i format/data or factory reset the phone hangs.
is there any other way of hard resetting i9100.?other than cwm recovery?
Have you tried flashing with the .PIT? I doubt it'll work, since other people also tried it, but it's worth a shot.

[Q]Odin and Stock firm. only has 1 file?

hi there!
I just wanted to ask you all if this has happened to you guys.
You know that when you download a stock firmware from from wherever you get you get the file in .ZIP
so when you open it up, and extract it, you may see 5 files, modem, csc...etc.
but from 4.0.4 samsung firmwares doesnt show this 3 important files which are PHONE, and CSC, it only shows me 1 file.
and whenever I add it to PDA section on ODIN, it goes OK but after, it gets stuck at the boot logo forever, so the only way to solve this is to flash again with odin but with firmwares with those 3 files manually to make it work.
does this have anything to do with the brick bugs? cause I have never had it on 4.0.4 stock firmwares and wipe does not brick my phone up

From memory, I believe wiping dalvik cache can help get past boot logo but I don't remember whether that was for custom roms or stock.

a) 1 file firmware is normal.
b) you need to perform factory reset in stock recovery. Nothing should go wrong
c) your issue is not related to brick bug. the solution is in b)
d) if you have any fear to perform factory data reset in stock recovery, then flash Siyah kernel (.tar) via Odin then boot to recovery and perform factory data reset.
Just one question... Ae you aware of emmc Superbrick Bug?

Yes I am aware of its danger and brick bug thingy, but I usually do not wipe on stock samsung kernels and recoveries. But I did with my cm9 rom and checked with an app and it said i had the brickbug thingy but it didnt do nothing even with wipes, i wonder what that apps is telling me.

Reset the flash counter with Triangle Away, flash the stock rom with Odin and perform a data/factory reset after reboot in settings/backup and restore. Now you can update with Kies/OTA and status will say NORMAL.

[Q] Bricked galaxy s3?

I rooted my galaxys3 GT-I9300 recently and flashed with cm10.1 nightly and then with sotmax v14 ROM and it was working perfectly for three days.. I have administered a hard case for my galaxy s3 which covers it fully. Two days back my galaxy s3 fell from a chair and suddenly it restared. After that it fails to boot beyond the galaxy s3 logo. I felt it could not have possibily encountered any hardware problem because of my case. But lucky me i could access cwm recovery and odin mode and hence flashed it again with cm 10.1 and sotmax v14 with cwm recovery but in vain...it doesnt boot beyond the galaxy s3 logo. Again I flashed with stock gs3 rom(correct version ) via odin and followed all the steps like wipe chache.....factory reset etc etc. But Same results as before it is stuck at the logo. Even the blue led doesnt get lit but when I put it to charge it is getting charged with a red led light...I tried all possible methods as far as I knew them. I have very little knowledge about flashing. Now i do not know what to do. I voided the warranty. In odin mode it shows
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOADS: YES (1 COUNTS)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
I cannot use the triangle away app so that I could reset the counter as I cannot even get inside the phone. All I can access is recovery mode and odin mode. After I flashed it with a stock rom the cwm recovery got restored with the original recovery. With recovery or odin can I reset the counter and unroot and modify the system status to official so that I can get the galaxy s3 freely serviced by samsung? Or is there any other way to make my phone work? Please help me....I feel iam stuck from all sides and desperate. Have I bricked my phone and made it a 500 $ paper weight?...s3 is so light that it cannot be used even as a paper weight. Help me guys. Thanks a lot in advance.

How long has it been stuck? I sometimes after flashing back to stock had to wait about 20 minutes.
Also try to format everything in internal memory manually.

Rooted
Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (Stock from: http://www.androidpit.com/android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-for-galaxy-s2-download-it-here)
I have had on and off hardware issues with my phone even when all was stock, things like apps failing, phone freezing and getting hot when something got stock.
Now after a reboot my phone just keeps booting and never enters the Android OS. To add, I don't know why I got to the scene where "Android is optimizing your apps" this always happened after I changed kernel. But now it is stuck there, the circle is rotating and after some minutes the phone gets hot. I waited over 20 minutes, but it's stuck there.
I can enter CWM mode, and I did a cache and Dalvin cache clean, although it didn't help.
I also have the yellow triangle upon starting the phone...
What is the best solution to try to fix the issue? I rather not wipe the phone, before I try other things. Maybe set a new kernel there or ROM?
Restore nandroid backup in CWRecovery. Or a factory reset if you have no backup, and if the reset doesn't work, flash a stock rom with Odin & start again (re-root your phone, etc).

yes, if u flash 'Philz' kernel then u can make a Nandroid bkp of the Data partition in its recovery before making a factory wipe and then u can restore the same later, so that all ur 300+ apps will be intact
How do I access the storage of my phone? So that I can copy over a kernel file.
Wow there, this is not windows.
