[Q] SGS3: 'Insufficient storage available' error - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Having an issue with my SGS3 where I cannot install a couple of app updates. I keep getting the message 'insufficient storage available' and the updates will not go through. I have almost 3.5gb of free space on the internal memory and about the same on my SD card...
I am using the latest version of the following ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705866&page=284
I don't have enough posts on here to post this question in there....
FWIW, the apps are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Movies from Flixster.
I have deleted my cache, davlik cache, fixed permissions, re-booted various times etc. and nothing solved it; any ideas on what I could try?

Download Lucky Pacher APK, install and run it. It automatically deletes unused ODEX files. Those Odex files are probably the cause of your error.
You must be rootrd.

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the latest version of the Lucky Patcher apk and it did not resolve the issue. I tried every option it gave, e.g remove all odex files etc and nothing worked.
Any other ideas...

Insufficient Storage Available AOKP

I got the Insufficient Storage Available error when I install new apps from Google Play, I can't even install apk, so I think this is not Google Play problem. I have plenty of space life. Running the latest AOKP. Anyone having this problem?
I'm guessing this didn't work?
Try this.
It also happens when you have the app still in the data/apps folder yet it's already uninstalled. Go to your data/apps folder with Root Explorer and check if the .apk is still there. If it is, delete it.

Thanks for your advice, I used mini tool partition from my computer, but when I checked in my phone's storage, still wasn't shown the ext4 partition that i did with minitool, so just tried with cwm partition (1GB Ext and 0MP swap) and it worked! But before I try this one I downloaded link2sd from play store! That's it! Now my internal memory is 0.94GB, wow...before it was only 120MP!

The app didn't work. It runs ok, but has no effect in solving this issue... at least on my case: Galaxy S2 running Cyanogen 9 final release. I also had this issue from time to time with the RC1 of CM9, but it always disappeared without me doing nothing (the problem only happened back then when updating apps from Google Play).

Meanwhile, just my 50 cents, I think this problem is related with the Lucky Patcher... Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe not..,

Package file is invalid & Insufficient storage available :(

Hi, I'm on Foxhound's Revolver Ocelot ROM and I keep getting these two messages whenever I try to download anything from the Play market;
Package file is invalid & Insufficient storage available
I cannot download a single app from the Play market.
Please someone help me to resolve this, preferably without a factory reset.

I've wiped cache and dalvick in recovery, but still the issue remains.
I've also wiped cache and data in Google Play Market and Download Manager, but error is still there.
Help, someone.

Try to download apps using another network connection. Sometime it many be a temporary network issue. Also try these methods http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2011/12/fix-android-package-file-is-invalid.html
try what MyLifeRocks10 said: "go into either the /system/app/ or /data/app/ directory and delete the odex file that has the same name as the respective .apk"
I'm trying to download Sports Car Challenge and am getting the same problems.
First it was insufficient storage space, so I rebooted, same problem. Then I unmounted sdcard, app cannot be installed in default location, so I remounted sdcard now I get package file invalid.
AAARRGGHHHH !
I've tried clearing cache of google play store but no difference.
I am running standard XWLPG firmware with CF-root.
Solved. Sort of.
I've spent two days prowling the web searching for solutions for the "package file invalid" error. My problem was that maps would not restore from a backup or install from the market. I did one of everything in an attempt to solve it, I'm pretty sure. Since it looks like the cache is simply jammed up, preventing the install of large Google apps, I used a Titanium Backup filter to list all my apps that reside on the phone rather than on the SD card. I uninstalled a few of the bigger ones (actually just three of the biggest) and then went to the market to install maps. Came through without a problem. Strangely, using Titanium again I was able to restore all those apps I'd uninstalled to make room for maps. I have no idea why that worked – it seems spatially impossible – but for now, at least, problem solved. What a total hair-puller the invalid package error is.
Hi.I have a problem..
I flashed v2.5 yesterday, and when I want download app from PlayStore, It always give me a message: "Package file is Invalid" and I cant install app from SDcard. I try to reflash the ROM. BUT its still

Yes, .odex files could be in either /data/app or /system/app, but I would NOT recommend deleting any .odex files from /system/app. That will break the system application, and won't solve the problem.
The "insufficient storage available" message stems from the system thinking the DATA partition is full. Has nothing to do with /system/app, which is on the system partition.
I had this issue before, and had ZERO .odex files in my /data/app folder. I solved it by clearing data on Google Services Framework, and rebooting.

Try also don't work
If search the internet you will find hundreds of posts linked to this issue of "Insufficient Space" on the Galaxy SII and other Samsung phones. The rather poorly explained "solutions" above do NOT solve the problem. Neither does typing *#9900# and clearing the "dumpstate/logcat". It sometimes clears the error for a short time (like one app update) but usually does not. Clearing the Dalvic Cache did not help either. Nor did manually deleting all log files from /device/data/log/. I have tried a few apps that claim to clear all unnecessary log files and clear the cache. None worked.
So there is obviously a larger problem here!
As many others have posted all over the internet, the Internal Storage (device memory) has plenty of space available. In my case there is 225MB available and yet I am unable to download and install an app of just a few MB. I am unable to update apps that are already installed. I also have over 8GB available on the phone's SD card.
So if anybody really knows the solution to this issue then I (and hundreds others) would be delighted to hear from you.
Many thanks!

Gameloft games showing Out of Memory

I can download other games from the Play Store, but when I try to download my purchased content from Gameloft it says I am out of memory and can't install the files. I have 15 GB open on my internal SD card, but IDK what is going on with Gameloft (And it is specifically them that is giving me troubles nothing else has issues)

The problem is in your TF201 dalvik-cache! You will need lucky pacther,ROOT,superuser or supersu for fix thing! When you install lucky pacther only what you need is open it and assces to root on superuser >>> than lucky pacther will delete unused dalvik-cache! (FIRST YOU NEED TO DELETE GAMES WITH YOU HAVE PROBLEM >>> THAN LUCKY PACTHER OR YOU CAN IN LUCKY PACTHER DELETE dalvik-cache MANUAL)

I had this problem as well, what you need to do is to install Lucky Patcher. Run Lucky Patcher and let it do its thing, it'll clear unwanted .odex files from your system and it just works thereafter
Hey! I see from your sig that you're on hb1.3, may I ask if anrs or whatnot still persist? Are stutters still present when browsing really quickly and whether switching apps from the recent apps menu results stutter?

I haven't had a single issue with HB1.3 as of yet. I also ran Pimp my Rom though to eliminate any issues that were in 1.2... so IDK if it naturally has it or if the PMR helped it out more than I thought.
okay so I installed lucky patched but Wild Blood is still showing up with the following error message
"You do not have enough available space on your memory card to install the game. You need to delete 0MB from your applications (Video,Games)"

First try reinstalling is its from the play store
This happens because the files were not downloaded or extracted properly, are you running a cracked version of this?
Whatever the case is, you could try extract 'main.107.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftWBHM.obb' file by changing the extension to .zip and move all the extracted files to 'sdcard/Android/data/com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftWBHM/files
So how's hb1.3 does it stutter in overall performance or switching apps from the recent apps menu?
One thing that worked for me is moving the downloaded files from /Internal Storage/Android/data to SD Card/Android/data. Since there is a limit on Google Play about the size of uploaded apps, uploaders are instead allowed to attach .obb files where much of the data is. These OBB files are supposed to be downloading to external storage, not internal, so you might want to check if they were to downloaded internal storage rather than external.

Hey guys,
I'm having this issue with my Xperia Z1, locked unrooted stock.
I used to have the issue with the odd app update on my XL.
Removing the odex file in the app dir was the fix.
In this case, I can't find the games app dir. It's just not there.
Nothing to delete, nothing to move.
I'm not rooted yet so I cant run lucky patcher.
Thus far, apk is installed, checks files on run, gives memory error message as above.
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you searched the z1 forums?
Well if you can't find any solutions I suppose it would be a good time to go rooted :fingers-crossed:

Gallery force closes says "Not enough space..."

Hi All,
my issue is related to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44940570#post44940570 but i guess the thread is dead now.
The problem is when i access my gallery it closes and gives me a message that says, "Not enough space, please delete uneccessary items...bla bla."
the solution i used to fix this is to uninstall instagram and reboot my phone. but when i try reinstalling instagram again, the issue comes back.
anyone who has a better fix rather than uninstalling instagram?
BTW, im sure all my storage still has plenty of free space on them. so it is impossible that storage is really the problem.

Don't know about gallery problem, but if you have root you can go to /data/app folder and look for an .odex file (for instagram) and delete it. Reboot now and it should work to install instagram

Then go to CWM wipe data and reboot.
BACKUP BEFORE
Wipe data will deletre all apps, so you should back them up.
There's no need for that. Flash the script from this thread, it should solve your problem without wiping any app or data:

Quite weird. Maybe you should try a full wipe then.. Or flash the script another time, because that worked for me sometimes. Another (temporary) sollution is to download another gallery fron the Play Store.
an update, i wiped my phone and still the issue is there.
i cannot also take photos now, when i try to capture a photo it is not saving on either phone or sd card.
Same problem with me, my solution is open root explorer then go to sd card then change mount r/o to r/w. but it is just temporary solution
i dont know how to fix it rightly.
I had the same problem before.its because corrupted folders. .try read this..and followed the guide
